Superior Awning and Shade is much better! Mike is Arrogant and difficult. I was given the run around by the owner. Called Mike around 3PM on Friday to get a bid, he said I am really busy but tell me about your project. I go into the explanation and Mike stops me and says, he's really busy (again). I never get a call back so I call Mike and he says he may or may not have received my information but he is Really Busy ...and asks could he call me back. I call Mike and he pretends not to have ever spoken to me, stating he has 28 clients right now but he will try to dig up my info. I had the worst experience with Mike. I found him on yelp. We had a lovely conversation about shade sails. He invited me to one of his client's homes to check out their sail. I was all in. My one concern was that I worried it would block the view off our balcony, a question I asked Mike about several times during our in-person meeting, especially since I couldn't tell exactly how it would look from the plans or 3D picture he gave me. He said it would be fine, I texted my husband and let him know, and I asked one more time before I signed the contract. His words are etched in my brain since it took such a bad turn. He said, "it wouldn't be dramatically different." I trusted him. That was a terrible mistake. Now we're stuck with a beautiful shade sail that provides the shade we need but we can't enjoy our balcony anymore. It seems like a trade no one should want to make, so I can't understand why Mike didn't take my concerns more seriously. He was also kind of mean when I went back to him about this. He says it wasn't his mistake and I should have been able to tell from the plans, but again - I could not. He's the expert and I trusted him. And again, why would anyone want a shade sail that covers their balcony? It seems irresponsible to me he would install it this way. He offered to give us a new shade sail at cost but he told me to "accept his time gratefully" when I asked questions about how his new plan would address our concerns. In the end, we didn't want to give him any more money to fix what we don't think is our mistake, especially when we can't trust that the same thing won't happen again. And I learned I should be careful who I trust and make even an even bigger deal about my concerns. I hope this helps other people! read more

We just finished installation, and we are very happy. The whole thing took about 3 weeks once we got the owner on site. Send pictures and measurements ahead of time per the website instructions. Mike, the owner, will send you a drawing then come to your house to discuss. We had another bid, and although Mike was slightly higher, we thought his process was more thorough, and the finished product is EXACTLY what he presented to us in person. The longest day was when the guys had to come out and dig 7 and 4 foot holes, but that's required for the size polls we got. After that, Mike and his son were on sight for a few days of final measurements and install. This is an homage to a man so honest he would rather lose a job than compromise the quality of his labor--a man who would rather disappoint a homeowner than commit one to spending unwisely. His name is Mike Tenenbaum, and he owns PerfectShadeSails.com. I need some kind of shade for west-facing bedroom windows heat-scorched in summer despite low-E glass. AlumaWood wouldn't do because code requires a minimum of 80 inches of headroom we don't have. Same with a lattice-top. I did some research and discovered that shade sails can be designed even for difficult situations. Online, Perfect Shade Sails provided immediate information no other company posted. Mr. Tenenbaum uses materials for his shade sails with the highest warranty available in the industry--15 years. No other company offers this high quality Australian material. The next highest warranty was 10 years, and some offer only 5. He's also the only shade sail company exclusively making wire-edge sails rather than web-edged, which stretch to compromise the tautness of sails. Web-edges are much easier to use. I was sorry that the first question in his posted FAQs explained he comes no farther south than LAX, because we live in Orange County. Still, I hoped to persuade him to venture down to Surf City. He answered my phone call faster than any of the companies doing business nearer to our home. He asked a few pertinent questions no other answering company has asked and promptly honed in on critical obstacles for our proposed project. Those hot windows are on a second story balcony. He explained how much pull would be on any ground post, how deeply its hole would have to be dug, and what circumference would be required for the cement pour. In short, he took a good deal of time to patiently explain why our proposed project simply wasn't feasible. Then he told me he had an equally difficult spot at his own home, and that he'd bought a cantilevered Costco umbrella for about $500 which did the trick and was still holding up after 5 years. (Costco still sells it, now for $599.) I've seen several so-called shade sails flapping wildly in the breeze around our neighborhood. These are no doubt ready-made sails anchored improperly by DIYers. It's quite apparent that when shade sails aren't correctly installed, they're downright dangerous. So, hats off to Mike Tenenbaum, who's given me a semi-permanent solution for about 10% of what I might have paid for shade sails that ultimately wouldn't work.
