I found the car on CarGurus around the end of January 2018, phoned the dealership, and was introduced to my new best friend Nate. After a few back and forth texts, more photos, questions about the car, and calls for close to a month, I told Nate I was interested in purchasing the Beetle; and that I was flying down to Salt Lake to pick it up and drive it back to Spokane. I flew into SLC, Nate personally picked me up from the airport, and drove me back to the dealership to meet my new Bug. The gentleman who detailed the car, made it look like it had just rolled off of the assembly line in 1971. After a test drive, I signed some paperwork, paid cash for the car, and drove off into the sunset...or so I thought I would. I had planned on driving back to Spokane early the next morning, but the Bug wouldn't start. I contacted Nate and got the Bug towed back to the dealership. The Service Manager, Chris, allowed me to occupy an unused service bay, and Nate spent the next few hours going above and beyond to help me get back on the road. There are a few morals associated with my experience. If you want to by a car in Salt Lake, look for Nate (wherever he may be); if he happens to have the day off, ask for Barry. RC Automotive is a BUSINESS. Utilities and associates have to be paid (it's the American way!). Respectfully, if you haven't purchased the vehicle outright, and someone else makes a better offer, don't expect to have priority "dibs" on said vehicle; whether you're flying in or happen to be a local. Also, it's a buyer's responsibility to research the vehicle and dealership before purchasing the vehicle. Ask the right questions. If you don't get the answers you want, it's your right to go somewhere else. Nate, I can't thank you enough. Barry, stay gold. Chris, I died laughing (inside) when you told me you wouldn't drive back to Spokane in that car. Thanks Jazmine, for all the paperwork filed and sent out in a timely manner. Had multiple lights on the dash, gas completely on empty, no oil, rear passenger tire gash with leak, and engine light on... I refused to take the car. Argued with Barry, he said "he'd make it right", never did. Dealership refused to cancel the sale. I got 2 mechanic reports, both said $10,000 in immediate repairs needed, do not drive the car, if I do, it will turn into $30,000 worth of repairs. Learned car was sold 4 times at the 100,000 mile mark. I returned the car via the credit union and the dealership refused to pay off the credit union! They profited twice on the car! Now I am being sued for the sales contract. I see over 30+ reviews on google this has happened to others. It's Auto Fraud, they camouflage the condition of the car by deleting the codes temporarily to get you to sign. They lie that they inspect, service, and maintain the vehicle, at their Service Center. He/she was polite and answered questions timely. There was a $90.00 temp Registration fee they do. I explained TWICE I do not live in UTAH. I am only buying the vehicle and driving back to my home state. I do NOT need a 45-day permit. The state of Utah has a 96 HOUR trip permit for $2.50. It is specifically for out of state buyers to drive their car home to another state. It is right on the UTAH DMV website. It even states Dealers can issue them. Well Kris came right out and called me a LIAR. Exact words were Utah does not have that. YES they do I even emailed the info, website link and Statute number. No wonder Garff has such a bad reputation. This person called a cash paying customer a LIAR instead of at least first checking it out. We have Garff dealers here too with low reviews, I will never buy from a Garff dealer and I will be sharing this experience with people I know.

When I bought the car, I had a 3rd party inspection done. They stated that the lower control arms…read morewere going out & would need to be replaced soon & an alignment done. I let the dealership know that & they said that I could buy it & pay for it at home or they would do it free of charge at their shop. They knew that I lived out of state & that would it would be difficult to get the car over there. I should have come with my own financing but I was on a major time crunch and traveling, so I trusted them with it. I told them I have had loans w/ Chase, Cap One, Mazda Fin.; all of my loans were through major entities. They said the only place I was approved was Westlake Financial (this is a company for people with very low credit & repos, I didn't know that at the time). They also approved me at 13.99%, said that was the best they could do. I didn't have another option at the time with finding my own financing due to time constraint and needing to get home to work the next day, so I went with it. I asked them again if they had gotten me approved with Cap One or Chase since I asked for them to check with them. They said I didn't get approved. Later I checked my credit; there was never an inquiry for Capital One or Chase, just Westlake and a bunch of random credit unions in Utah. When I got my rejection letters for the credit unions all of them were for me not being a resident in Utah, which I'm sure they know is a qualification. After I left I refinanced for less than HALF the interest of the original loan through CapOne. Tony told me I couldn't pay the sales tax at the DMV, that I had to pay it there. That isn't true. I've always paid my sales tax up front at the DMV, I have never financed the interest into the loan. He claimed it was my only option & wouldn't leave it out of the loan. I had $1,500 financed into the loan that didn't need to be there to pay interest on. They also charged me a $2500 fee for the car having low mileage, the paper stated it had 56k miles. On the way home I noticed the odometer was well over 58k not 56k. Tony told me that I had to pay the registration upfront &NV would mail me my plates. I let him know that's not how the DMV works in NV. He argued with me and I ended up paying it. My plates did NOT show up in the mail because you have to go to the DMV, have an inspection, & register in person. Becky caught the error & sent me a check. When I left the dealership I had a written IOU for them to replace the lower control arms/have them take it to a shop for an alignment. I let them know that I didn't know when I'd be able to make it back over, they told me to give them a few days notice to get the parts & they would do it. I bought my car in May & I have not been to UT since. I work 5-6 days/week, 5 hours from UT. I called asking if they would just reimburse me for the cost of the parts/the alignment. Tony advised me he would have to ask the manager. A week later no response, I called back to check. Tony said the owner told him it was too long ago. I asked him if they would honor the deal if I could figure out a way to get the car to Salt Lake since the paperwork did not specify a time limit & neither did they when I bought it. He said even if I brought the car over he wouldn't do it because the owner said he was "done with the deal" because of "an issue we had with the title". I asked what this meant. He said that the owner had asked me to go to the DMV & I wouldn't do it, so he was frustrated with the deal & was "done with it". The owner texted me asking if the car was registered, I let him know that I had an appt the next week. That next week there was a cyber attack on all of NV state info systems, then DMV was closed for over a week. They canceled all appointments, I found this out when I showed up to my appt at 8am the morning of the attack. When my appt was cancelled I got a deputy to do my VIN inspection & did a "rapid registration" online. It took a couple weeks for that to process, I sent him all of the information when I had it. I was not "refusing" to go to the DMV. If they recall, originally they told me my plates would show up in the mail from NV. The local DMV books out about a month for an appt for registration, you can't walk in. I had the 1st appt on my 1st day off that was available & the DMV was shut down that morning. It's not legal to refuse to do something that I have paperwork stating you would honor (with no limit on time frame listed) because you got mad that I couldn't get into the DMV when you wanted me to? Thankfully I have the money to fix this & it's only causing an inconvenience for me and regret that I gave this slimy, poorly run dealership money. I'm filing a complaint with the UT Division of Consumer Protection, as they are not legally allowed to just "be done" with something that is in the legal purchase contract. I called Tony to ask for it in writing that they were refusing to do the repairs a week ago now, of course I've gotten no response.

Secondly, when I brought it to you the first time for the heater issue, the service advisor forced me to pay a $27.00 deductible. The warranty states I have a $25.00 deductible.  The heater worked for 3 days, then quit.  I brought the car back in, and you had it for almost 3 weeks.  When I came to pick it up finally, you tried to charge me the deductible again. It was back in for the same reason, I shouldn't have to pay another deductible. When I originally brought the car to you, my air conditioning worked fine.  When I picked the car up, it didn't work, I brought it back in a 3rd time and waited for it.  The service advisor came out and told me I had to pay $400.00 to recharge the A/C, just so you could try to diagnose why the A/C wasn't working.  I watched you (or whoever the service manager was that day) go into the service area with him, talk about it, then he came out and told me that. I have had the A/C evacuated and new freon put in, and the A/C is still not working.  Now I have to bring it back to you a 4th time for an issue that was not an issue when I brought it to you the first time.  Certainly, you can see why I'm upset.  I just want my car fixed.  I'm not going to pay another deductible for a problem your dealership caused. I was asked to contact them, which I did. Emailed the service manager, as well as left a VM for the general manager. As of the time of this review, no one has contacted me.

I couldn't tell at the time of purchase. But since purchase I've discovered the entire vehicle is plagued with rust. Car has been in the shop for a week trying to cut bolts off to replace parts. By the time I realized what I bought it was too late. Dealership refuses to give me a copy of the inspection done on the car.

Come to find out it was at the epicenter of Hurricane Sandy. The clutch burned out 10 days after purchase, said we were riding the clutch, Ha! Learned to drive on standard. Said we should have bought their repair service warranty. Then the exhaust system went, corrosion, now the whole engine. I would never, ever buy a car from these people. The car only had 37,400, we paid cash. Wish I'd never heard of Affinity Auto!
