Dr. Pitman is a a nationally-recognized specialist in dental implant and periodontal surgery - but that's only part of why he is the greatest. Dr. Pitman is blessed with a personal manner that put me at ease despite my reluctant referral to him to discuss an invasive and potentially painful periodontal surgery. He is gentle, communicative, engaged and concerned. He also has a good sense of humor that will help you to relax, immediately. If you have any questions pre- or post-procedure, he will go out of his way to answer you (I know - I experienced a not uncommon post-surgical complication on Christmas Day, and he returned my SOS call promptly). Dr. Pitman's office is well-run, friendly and well-organized - I've never been kept waiting. And now let's talk for a minute about "Lana", Dr. Pitman's 5-Star Periodontal Hygienist. My oh my, is Lana gentle but THOROUGH. My teeth couldn't have been whiter if I'd soaked them overnight in a bucket of bleach (all this achieved with just a salt-water spray!), and my gums were so pink and healthy that I've decided to go out -of -pocket & get 4 cleanings a year with Lana - even though my dental insurance pays for only two! If you knew me personally (thanks to constant dollar-sucking events in my big family, I'm pretty damn self-denying) you'd realize that HAS to mean Lana is one heck of a fab practitioner!! Wait 'til Lana teaches you the healing power of the Butler "Proxabrush" (and, you'll get a free sanple!). This is based on my first visit with Dr. Pitman which is just an evaluation. I will update if necessary based on my follow-ups when he performs more procedures. Reason for visit: I went to see Dr. Pitman for a second opinion with respect to whether I needed periodontal procedures performed. Bedside manners: Amazing. He is a very friendly, approachable and relaxed person. You never feel rushed. He explains everything with care and in simple terms, but not in a condescending way at all. Office: Small, but very clean and with modern equipment. He is a sole practitioner I think. It is conveniently located (for me anyway) by the F train so easy to get to. Wait time: At least when I visited for my 9 a.m. appointment, I had no wait time. In fact I was a few minutes late and got to see him right away. And they were very gracious about my tardiness which I really appreciate. I do not know if I just lucked out because it was a morning appointment. Quality of service: I can't understand periodontal language, but when he was doing the evaluation, he seemed to have measured more things than my past periodontist. He also took the time to explain to me what he was doing with a lot of visuals. The assessment he gave me at the end of it felt very honest in that he gave me a more precise assessment of what my needs were than my past periodontist. Appointments: He's available for appointments convenient times and sometimes Saturdays (I understand), but it is not that easy to make appointment as I think he has a lot of patients. I have been seeing Dr. Pitman for 12 years and he saved my teeth. I had serious gum disease that was missed by the dentist I had been seeing. I switched to a better dentist and Dr. Pitman acts as my perio and I see Dr. Pitman for dental hygiene cleaning 4 times a year. I made the mistake of using my dentist's hygienist for cleaning to save a few dollars and ended up with a much shorter appointment, a very unthorough cleaning and my teeth were chopped up very roughly. In comparison, Lana from Dr. Pitman's office takes 45 minutes, is thorough and gentle and really leaves me with clean teeth and no discomfort. Dr. Pitman is fantastic - he's been my family's periodontist since before I was born, and his continued great work is the reason my mouth is doing so well! I have junior periodontitis as well as some very misguided wisdom teeth, and Dr. Pitman has been able to: - Perform a deep cleansing oral surgery on four of my teeth during which he added in some stem cells to help the root of my teeth regrow - Perform two extractions on two teeth that just weren't going to make it as well as an additional one on a wisdom tooth - Implant a root on one of my extraction areas to ready it for a crown, adding in again extra cells to assist in the growth. At every point he has been wonderfully calm and comforting as I was freaking out, has been available to take my calls at random points in the day / week, and has made sure I've gotten the treatments I need at the times I need them, oftentimes working to fit me into his schedule. He also has convenient Saturday appointments which make it so much easier!! If you want good, reliable periodontal work done, go to Dr. Pitman! read more

His Comprehensive Evaluation is $300 during which he most likely will need to take X-rays (so he can evaluate them) at a cost of an additional $255. He recommended perio-scaling which one of his hygienist did on the spot at a cost of $770 for the top part of my mouth. I chose not to come back. I had my regular dentist take care of my bottom teeth. More convenient! read more

Incompetent and barbaric. Terrible care. Pitman is arrogant and comes off as fake in the rare occasions that he pretends to be a a dentist with good bedside manner. He bullied me into procedures that I later found to be extraneous by the 2nd and 3rd opinions of actual nationally recornized dentists a few weeks and months later. His lack of education, disregard for patient wellbeing, greed, and insecurity in diagnosis show though in the bevy of extraneous (not to mention painful) procedures he enlists to conclude what other, more highly skilled periodontists were able to do in half the time. One does not know the full extent to which one has been mistreated until they see an actual, quality dentist. Office manager and Pitman together disrespect patients' wishes and concerns--which in dentistry, leads to needless bills and more importantly, trauma and physial pain. I have never before liked going to see my dentist especially when I know that I face lots of drilling but having lost my 2 top right front teeth from a fall Dr. Pitman explained to me that he had to drill holes to insert titanium posts to hold implants. Dr. Pitman has great technique and painlessly injected me with local anesthetic so that the drilling didn't hurt either. His great approach and easygoing manner plus the wonderful staff made the whole procedure a pleasure. Even though the cost was around $10,000 for the entire procedure, I feel that I got expert care and that it was worth every penny. read more
