I reached out to schedule a routine cleaning, and they refused to book me unless I first paid for a $200 full-mouth radiograph (but don't worry, they'll generously offer a $100 discount). When I questioned it, they insisted it was necessary and that I also needed pre-authorization (which was false). Mind you, this was for a general dental cleaning. When I pushed back and said no pre-authorization was required, they suddenly pivoted to "legal and ethics of practicing dentistry." Ironically, they mistook me for another patient and shared details about their case during our conversation. I'm not sure how they handle patient information, but that seems like a serious privacy concern and potential HIPAA violation--and, in their own words, a real "legal and ethical" violation of dentistry. And when I called them out, they did a complete 180, and suddenly they could book my appointment without the X-ray requirement. Instead of having an honest conversation about their policies, they misrepresented dental laws to justify unnecessary charges. I chose to go elsewhere. Dr. Kaplan and his office are truly horrible. They put my mother on an antibiotic with refills for one year - and we later learned that the medicine should be taken for 4 months maximum. His office staff is VERY rude as well - the receptionist Sharon that every below has indicated is horrible. I reached out for medical records that we needed within 3 days. They put you on hold and do not come back. They promise to call you they never do. Dr Kaplan himself called and I texted all my information. He never got back to me. I just left the office of Dr Kaplan very disappointed. I was really excited to find a dentist that offered a variety of services that I'm in desperate need of. Going to a dentist for the first time I like to meet them and discuss a plan of action prior to starting the work. When I scheduled my appointment I was assured that my two forms of insurance were accepted, to bring the cards along with my ID. I received a voicemail last night at 8:30 from Sharon trying to confirm my appointment and to bring photo ID and insurance cards (she did not mention a fee for this appointment). I found it very odd that a business would call so late at night. I arrived to my appointment this morning on time with a few minutes to spare. Sharon told me to sit down as soon as I walked in the door while she continued her conversation with a woman about the Kushner family real estate developments. After she finished her conversation she called me to her desk to ask me for ID, insurance cards. She asked me if I had been informed of the consultation fee and I told her that I had not been informed. She rattled on about insurance codes and never even asked me what insurance I had. (I have Delta Dental and DentaQuest). She told me that as a courtesy she would reduce the fee to $100. She gave me a cold hard stare and shrugged her shoulders when I told her that I wouldn't pay it, so I walked out. Too bad for Dr. Kaplan since I already know I need 2 crowns, 2 implants and a new filling. Is it too much to ask to meet the doctor first? Seems to me that he might want to have someone at the front desk that is more helpful to patients, Sharon is not it. Now, after reading the owner responses to the google reviews I understand that this office takes no responsibility for their actions or inactions. I'm sure that Sharon will respond to this by blaming me for not knowing that I had to pay for this and that my insurance couldn't be billed. Too bad Dr Kaplan doesn't read his own reviews. read more

Due to a change in insurance, I needed to find a new dentist -- picked this one based on location, acceptance of insurance (Health First), etc. I will NOT be going back there. The receptionist (Sharon) was rude and unprofessional -- both on the phone and in person. It took 4 phone calls to even schedule an appointment. The equipment is definitely not state of the art, and the dentist who did my procedure (Rosen?) was abrupt and had a bad attitude, making an already unpleasant experience that much worse. I've had plenty of dental work done and have never experienced such horrid service. Please, unless you don't have any choice, do not use this dentist. read more

The procedure required an exceptional level of skill paired with the eye of an artist and, in all regards, Dr. Kaplan hit the mark. From the moment I walked in to the time I left, I had a perfect experience at this office. Sharon the Office Manager is welcoming and knowledgable and super friendly. I expressed to her that I had an interview that I had to get to shortly after the start of my office visit. Instead of being agitated or cold, she made sure that my office experience was a breeze. She told everyone that needed to work with me and made sure that I was out in time. Lillian the Xray tech/dental assistant was quick and efficient and a great time to talk to. She is warm and bubbly with a great personality. She made me feel at ease which is important in a dentist office. I didn't see Dr. Daniel Kaplan at this visit but I did see Dr. Rachel Rosen. Although we didn't have a lot of time together, she was very knowledgable and helpful with showing me and explaining to me my X-rays. And also in making me aware of what I needed to do moving forward. She was clear and concise and I can say that I walked out of there knowing what the shape of my mouth was in, without any confusion. The office was very clean and orderly and everything was covid friendly and sanitized correctly. Calling into the office is a breeze as well. WHICH IS SO RARE in this world. There are very few doctors office customer service phone lines that don't immediately force connect you to a computer system. So this is HUGE for me. In the end, my entire experience was great and I highly recommend to have your dentistry needs handled here. It takes a lot to impress me and satisfy me and I am a very satisfied customer. I had six implants done by Dr. Kaplan in a time span of little over a year. Dr. Kaplan is very knowledgeable in explaining to me the processes and concerns. He always calms me down when I get nervous, and his sense of humor definitely helps. I am so happy that I have a full mouth of teeth well done! Horrible! They tell you you need a procedure and when you pay them, they don't do it. They won't refund your money. They left 3 unfinished procedures and an uneven bite and told me "happy dental health". They use your money to offset what they are contracted with insurance companies to receive for services. As an office manager assistant at an eye doctors office, I'm appalled at how horrible the front desk service is. I saw the reviews for the office, but I thought that maybe people were being petty... I was completely wrong. I made an appointment for a Thursday and was told that I needed to add their office to my insurance. I called my insurance to be told that that was not needed and so I called the office back to let them know. I don't know how Sharon is the office manager, but she is so rude. She told me at first my insurance requires it and once I told her I spoke to my insurance company, she then proceeds to tell me that it's the office policy. She then again lies to tell me I have another office as my dentist which is impossible because I have never used my insurance up until now. She then asks me in a condescending tone if I want to pay out of pocket because that's what's going to happen if I don't add them to my insurance. I also gave them all of my information including my member ID, but she stated that she needed it again and to just "take it out of my wallet." On top of that, they also messed up my appointment date. They scheduled me for today when I wrote it down in my agenda for tomorrow and even if, let's say the appointment was today, I never got a confirmation call or email like most doctors offices do.I immediately cancelled my appointment and will never call that office again. They are so unprofessional.. I don't even know how this office gets patients. I normally wouldn't really waste my time writing all of this, but people who are looking to make an appointment, don't. I really needed to see a dentist, but this isn't worth it. This place doesn't even deserve one star. read more

Absolutely appalling treatment by the receptionist. She was shouting at me on the phone when I tried to make a follow-up appointment. She refused to so much as pencil me in until my insurance made them my designated provider, which always happens at the first of the following month. I wanted to make the appointment for AFTER that date, and discussed and confirmed this was ok with the dentist. The receptionist didn't care at all and was horrible and downright combative. I sent an email to Dr. Kaplan explaining what happened and how shocked and aghast I was. He never replied. I'll never set foot in that office again. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - they cancelled my appointment 30 minutes before my appointment time. To my surprise, I asked to speak to the dentist, willing to wait for him to be free, since I have a gum infection and he's a specialist. All I needed was for him to evaluate my case and tell my dentist how to go on but the secretary refused to let me speak to him. The secretary kicked me out of the office, threatened me and called the cops on me, saying i was "foreign" "crazy" because I was crying. I was completely humiliated and "othered" by these people (if you can call them people) and they denied my health after I had an appointment scheduled. Their treatment was extremely inhumane, I have never been treated like this. I had been in need of a periodontist for weeks and when I find one and have an appointment they reject me and call the cops on me... Neglecting my health needs. My insurance gave me their number and referred me to them, and an oral surgeon and dentist referred me to the periodontist. I am disgusted, angry, and sad. That secretary needs to be FIRED. I don't recommend anyone going there, they are genuinely inhumane. read more

First time at this office was a great experience. Staff very friendly and kept me updated on schedule, progress, etc. Tech who did my xrays very kind and gentle, obviously experienced. Dr Kaplan took me back to room, introduced himself, asked about history, etc. Reviewed my xray's and records before coming back in to do my exam and cleaning. He has an easy demeanor, told me findings as he went, was knowledgeable about some of my rare disorders, and had a fluid way of going about it all. DON'T GO HERE! I went to Dr. Kaplan because he took my insurance. At my first cleaning, I was told I needed procedures not covered. He did a scaling without telling me, and Sharon, the receptionist (who never learned how to pronounce my name) insisted that I would get "the family discount." Turned out insurance DID cover it, and she was mum about that. I asked about teeth whitening and was told I needed treatment available only thru his office. Again they would offer me the "family discount." He gave me a sample-- turned out to be the same Crest White Strip I got on Amazon. A year later I needed an implant and was charged almost $10,000. (Rent for the Central Park So. office must have been due!) I quoted this to my new dentist. She was appalled. As the implant procedure was underway, I noticed the tooth next to it was loose. Dr. Kaplan said it was totally normal for teeth to shift and to keep my retainer in, which I always did anyway. Now the implant is complete, and the loose tooth is getting worse. Went back and he told me it was MY IMAGINATION, at which point I asked for my x-rays and went to my new dentist who said it was serious, that there was probably a fracture at the bottom of the post under the crown, exacerbated by the trauma of the implant work, and that I now need another implant. This one will cost me $6,000. This dentist I think I can trust, even though her practice doesn't take my insurance. And no, they don't offer "family discounts" either. read more

When I went there she told me I was there early even though she had told me to come 15 minutes before my appointment when I called her yesterday. she mixed up my appointment time even though I was 100% sure that I was correct and she kept on insisting that I am wrong without even apologizing. she is a very stubborn woman. after waiting for 30 minutes past my appointment time, I asked her when will I see the doctor and she kept on giving me unclear answers. I waited one full hour in the waiting room and she CANCELED my appointment PURPOSELY because she didn't like me. Her response was the doctor is running late. What kind dental office is this? I have been under Dr. Kaplan's care for several months. During that time he has evaluated and treated some issues (root canal, extraction, and implants) that were long overdue in part due to the logistical problems caused by the pandemic. In each case, he identified the problem, determined the best course of treatment, and explained everything clearly while patiently answering all of my questions. He has been extremely careful to make every procedure painless. He followed-up after involved procedures, and he has always been very accessible. In the process, it has been necessary for him to refer me to other specialists, each of whom has also been impeccable. As for his receptionist, Sharon, I have found her to be competent, professional, and friendly. She is often managing what can be a very busy reception desk. I will continue seeing Dr. Kaplan. He is highly skilled, direct in his approach, and a very personable individual. read more

Avoid this dentist at all costs! Even if he accepts your insurance, he will jack up the bill with costs the patient must pay, saying that an insurance plan he participates in doesnt pay enough! That's my problem? I think not. After an expensive procedure, which was partly covered by insurance, he proceeded to bill my insurance for a subsequent procedure, which was actually performed by my regular dentist. After many calls, letters and threats, over many months, he decided to admit to the insurance company that he thought he did the second procedure and must have "forgotten". He is dishonest and his office manager, Alicia, is also disagreeable and outright nasty. This is my opinion regarding this practice. read more
