With the closing of Village Inn in Altoona, decided to give the Perkins here a chance. SO glad we did! First time going to Perkins in Altoona. Since it was Christmas Eve, I got their Holiday Turkey Dinner for $15.49. Friendly staff, quick to-go service, and my meal tasted so good. Eat here! The scrambled eggs and pancakes were cooked perfectly. Rarely are scrambled eggs cooked well, never mind properly. This is a "thing" with me so today made me extra happy. The pancakes were fluffy, piping hot and scrumptious. To top it off, Monday is free pie day. If you've never had a slice of Perkins pie, you're missing out. The manager, Kevin, greeted us and immediately made us feel like he was welcoming us into his home. He was friendly, kind, professional, and quite enthusiastic. There's nothing better! Our server, whose name I did not catch, was also wonderful. She paid attention to our order and it came out perfectly. When does that ever happen? All the time, at this particular Perkins. It is right off Route 80 so if you're traveling, it's easy to get on and off. If you live locally, give them a try. It would be quite happy. We haven't been to Perkins since it was called Perkins Cake and Steak. This particular Perkins is far away the best we've ever visited. We used to go a lot back in the day... The restaurant was spotless, as were the bathrooms. The restaurant was brightly lit and smelled clean. Not chemically clean but good old fresh clean air. Genuinely the best experience I've had at a sitdown breakfast establishment, the food was amazing, I got the Hearty Man's Combo with scrambled eggs and pancakes and it was all cooked to perfection. The real star of the show here was the service, our waiter was incredible and very interactive with my group, they were very kind and understanding when we had difficulties with the menu. The waitress did no follow up service after bringing my meal. She didn't come back to ask how my food was or if I needed anything else. She didn't even think to ask if I needed refills until after I was already done and she was clearing. I'm not going to wave you down across a room. When I was paying, the man at the counter was laughing and making small talk with the people in front of me, once again asked how they liked their meal. I got up to pay: silence. Super Nice Perkins Restaurant hiding amongst all the Other Off the Main Highway Offramp but this one is a little more Prestine with Super Nice Management and Back of House has it together...Food was Fantastic. This is close to Adventureland soo some nostalgic artwork makes for colorful but unclassified decor, makes my first cup of Joe go a little faster daydreaming of eggs to come. . . Strawberry and CreamCheese Crispers were a nice new menu item these disappeared fast. Main course came out faster than a Rollercoaster drop zone but the plates were on point , presentation success! Eggs were perfect creamy white with hidden goo ready to deliver with one prong of my steady handed fork; California Eggs Benedict was the second great new menu item. . . Fantastic made my day! Here comes my 55 Senior Meal. Good and hot. The Pork Chops were grilled(2), the green beans had real bacon and even though the mash were instant the favor was very good. Again, I eat dessert with my meal the lemon meringue pie was a slice of heaven. The big steer burger had real beef with no filler an egg that complimented the juiciness of the entire meal. Sandi, my highly efficient waitress, was a fine example of how you treat your customers with good advice on what to order while making sure they enjoy every aspect of their meal. The atmosphere was quiet for an early afternoon get away meal. Sandi thought of everything from the straw, refills, hot sauce and service with a smile. As food connoisseurs, we really were delighted at the prices, parking and the overall aesthetics of the restaurant. We give cheers to the cooks who gave us a helping portion of everything. The prices are just right $--$$, and there is ample space between tables as well as good parking. One real benefit is it is across from Prairie Meadows. I do enjoy their breakfast whenever you get there early enough. Some waiters are efficient in service and some are not (tends to happen). The ambiance in the morning is always welcoming. Around noon seems more like the employees are done for the day and frankly don't want more customers. I have to admit the Yelping had made me a little bit of a food snob. Seven my friend wanted to meet at Perkins I was like.... Really? I can say that since the last time I was at a Perkins they have a more updated menu. I can say that the service was a little slow considering the time of morning and there wasnt that many people there. The food was not anything much to write about. I did have an orange juice and the meal that I ordered was enough food for me. My friends really love coming here for some reason, but this chain does not stand out from any of the other locations. Would love to tell you about the food, but both times I tried to eat there it never happened I arrived Friday, late and thought I'd get some dinner. I got there to the restaurant at 12:00 am. The guy working ran to the door and told me they are closed and he didn't have a chance to lock the door. I get it 12:00 / 12:01 your kitchen staff is done for the day Went back a couple days later (Monday, August 22) around 11:30 am to get lunch for me and my father. We were seated right away and was able to put in our drink order. After several minutes the waitress came back with drinks and took our orders. Although it was lunch time it was not overly busy. I watched an employee start to buss a table and then abandon the process half way through. Leaving the dirty dishes and bussing tub on the table. I also watched the same employee walk back and forth several times past the door in the kitchen without coming out. After 30 minutes of waiting (only because the guy behind me made comment) he checked with the "manager" of the hold up of the food. The response was "there is a back up in the kitchen". How? There should only be about 5 orders in the kitchen! I threw some cash on the table for our iced teas and we left. As we were leaving and passing a lot of potential patrons standing around to be seated, I told them they should leave as we waited for over 30 minutes without getting our food. So twice attempted to eat there and both times were complete failures. May the odds be ever in your favor if you go there for food!! read more

So you will have a chance to build up your appetite even more and when you are done you will be able to walk it off. For you lazy drivers "no offense" it's only a 5 to 7 minute walk or you can pay the Uber ride that is $5-7. Any ways now to the restaurant portion. I was thrown back when I walked in because the crowed on this day where a little older then me. There where lots of walkers and canes. "Hopefully I get old enough to have one" The line was to the door and if you come from where I am from it could be a 30min wait. I said to my self, let's see how long!! The host told me 10 minutes and I said to my self yea right, but I was too hungry to pass it up. So I timed them. No shit they had me seated in 9 min. The food was outstanding, pancakes and French toast where cooked to perfection and the bacon was crispy inside the omelet. The service was second to none. Worse Perkins I have ever been to concerning service. The food was good when we finally got it. We were seated right away by the general manager. He gave us a drink while we were waiting for our server. When he finally showed up to take our order he did so by memory. We asked him if he had it and he said yes. It took 50 minutes to get our food (the place only had a few tables of guest). Only 2 of the 4 of us got our meal correct. 2 of us ordered the same meal plus one strawberry crepe. The waiter stopped by 1 time to check on us and we did tell him of a couple of plates that weren't correct plus to order some coffee. He did correct the egg but not the way it was ordered because were tired of waiting. NEVER got the coffee. 50 minutes is a long time to wait for food, especially breakfast food. When my sister received her ticket it was $30. She ordered the same breakfast as me. $8.95, she added toast and a crepe. When she took it up with the manager he asked if she complained to the server she said no. He asked if she got pancakes or toast and she said no, plus she wanted her crepes to go. Got it with her meal. Her ticket was billed as All a Carte. $20. Very frustrating. It was noticeable that the manager did this often. We will never be back when we visit this area again. read more

If you're not a local or a long time customer, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I walked in on a Tuesday night and watched the servers laugh and be extra comfortable with what looked to be middle aged to elderly locals. A woman at the register acknowledged me and then I waited 4 mins before I was seated by ANOTHER server who was nicer. Later, another woman comes to the table. She took my drink order, came back 5 mins later with the water. I ordered an omelette and pancakes with fries. The food comes out and my omelette has ham in it, which I didn't order, I send it back and she BRINGS THE SAME PLATE BACK and says "We picked the ham out!" WTH? It goes downhill from there. All the while, I have pancakes here with no syrup getting cold and the fries were cold when they arrived. Sometime later the omelette comes back, cold side items, no acknowledgement, no responsibility for a horrible experience. Yes,I spoke with the manager, no response from him either. I ordered on line for delivery to my hotel room. When it didn't arrive on time, I called them. I was told that they don't deliver and I needed to come pick it up. I told him I ordered it on line and paid a delivery fee. He said they didn't deliver and I needed to come get it. When I arrived at Perkins, I received a text that my food was being delivered to the hotel. The manager told me they deliver through on line orders. When I got back to the hotel, the food was there. It tasted good but we had to warm it up in a microwave because it was cold. They also didn't deliver any silverware. Good thing we had a few forks in the truck. read more

I've eaten here quite a few times. I love the decor!! They have photos taken from local photographers of local places all over! I like to walk around and check them out. The rest of the decor is pretty nice as well. I love when chains incorporate local people and things. The staff is friendly and remembers you. They are also fast and efficient. The wait is hardly anything most of the time to get in. Bathrooms are kept very clean. The food is always spot on and good. As some have mentioned; it's a chain restaurant, but the food doesn't taste like it. I almost always get mushroom swiss chicken and broccoli and a side salad. This is a chain, but the food does not taste like a chain. I had Tuscan Chicken with steamed spinach and roasted tomatoes. It was EXCELLENT! I came here with a large party and they let us have separate checks. Food Server was good about it. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time considering we had a large party of about 20 people, some got their food early, some of us later, but it was a reasonable amount of time. Room to park the RV if it's not busy, however, the entrance to the parking lot may be a bit dicey for RV's to fit. I walked here from a campground. Update: Came here another time with a friend and had the salmon. DELICIOUS! UPDATE 9/2015: Came here again with some friends. For some reason, they were having to train a new cook and because of this, dinners were taking an HOUR to prepare. I was really impressed with how staff were honest about this, even if they would lose business. A lot of potential customers walked out after hearing this. My friends and I decided that, hey, they needed to train a new cook, and they needed customers to do this. So we decided to put up with the "wait."
