Our server was very attentive, timely, and friendly. Our food came quickly as did the drinks. The food itself was okay. My wife had an over-medium egg with hash browns, bacon, and toast (part of the "breakfast all day" theme). It was not special, but it was hot and done correctly. I had the Southwest Avocado Salad, which was very medium. The lukewarm chicken breast was cooked previously somewhere, and it had been seasoned with pepper. There were slices of avocado and some shredded American cheese (maybe from a plant in Arizona?). The "Chipotle Ranch Dressing" didn't seem particularly "southwestern" either. It had a roasted corn and black bean chutney over part of the salad, and it all showed up on a bed of chopped Romaine lettuce. Not bad, but not good either. We decided to eat at this Perkins since it adjoins our hotel, and we didn't feel like exploring Rapid City for food options after spending most of the day in a car. The server was very friendly. The women behind the counter, guessing she was a manager seemed unfriendly and annoyed. I didn't complain while there, it took almost an hour to receive our order and our Eggs Benedict was an experience to say the least. English muffins weren't toasted and the sauce was like colored water. No flavor and covered the bottom of our plates. The sauce is supposed to be thick and cover the eggs. Greeted and seated immediately by a very pleasant lady. Our waitress came within a few minutes and took our drink orders & never returned to us. Looked around and saw NO employees so my husband got up and saw a young man sorting silverware and he said waitress is new but our question is, where is she and in fact where is any other waitresses or any employee??? Wow, Sunday mornings are busy at Perkins! This location is right next to a grouping of hotels and The Box Events Center! We were a party of 5 adults + 2 kids, and the wait was only about 10 minutes! Service was great here, no complaints! The server took our orders and got everything right, and the food came out shortly after. We had young kids with us, so it was nice they had kid activity sheets + crayons and a kids menu. They also had a Senior menu (55+), which was great for the grandparents! The dining area was not very loud, and created a nice ambiance for a family brunch. I'd say that the other reviews I read about it being dirty was not the case for my visit, thankfully!! I ordered the Build-a-Breakfast, which allows you to order a very personalized breakfast of eggs, protein, a side of choice, and a stack of pancakes! I ordered the scrambled eggs, ham, and a fruit cup. The Magnificent Seven is pretty good deal - $9.99 for eggs, protein, and pancakes! I can't speak highly of the coffee, and it is priced at $3.50. When my food came out the steak was very dry. The toast was barely buttered. I was overall disappointed in my visit. It wasnt very busy in the restaurant. Only to be notified that my food is not available even thought getting en email confirmation food is ready. They ran out of everything. Granted that they are sorta busy and short staffed. This is a reflection on how badly this restaurant is managed. Seems their corporate management undercut everything to the point of not able to deliver their basic service. The workers deserve better by not giving them a bigger load of work and low pay (a few of the workers verbally mentioned it). Disappointing management. We tried to come at noon for a party of 7. The restaurant was mostly empty. We were told we'd have to split into 2 parties "because there's only 1 cook." We had no problem waiting at all for food or a table, knowing that it is hard to find enough staff right now, but I was confused why 2 tables would help this problem, and asked about this. I was told that the cook couldn't handle an order of 7 at once. I asked if we could have a table of 7 and just send 2 separate orders, half the party at a time and wait ~10-15 minutes between orders. Hmm. . Where to start. My husband and I stopped here to grab a bite to eat around 9:00 pm. We were greeted and sat right away so that was nice. On the walk to our table we walked thru a bunch of dirty tables and dirty floors. There was 7 tables with guests at them most of the other ones had dirty dishes on them. There were 3 employees, one was rolling silverware, one was filling salt and pepper shakers, and the guy that was our server was running around with his head cut off trying to help all the tables. I've worked in the restaurant business for years and I understand cutting servers when it's slow, I under stand that silverware need to be rolled. I also understand that the guests in the restaurant should be helped and that the poor guy helping us should of had help. He was super polite and kind and apologized for the long wait times on everything and it totally wasn't his fault that our visit was a 2 hour ordeal. He was doing what he could to help his tables. He didn't have the support. We were staying at a hotel there so we actually ended up stopping in to get pieces of pie to go again around 9:30. When we walked in there were 2 full tables and every other table in there had dirty dishes all over them, the floor was a disaster with stuff all over it. There we 2 women working and I just felt so bad for them. They were both super friendly and helpful but you could tell one of them wanted to cry. One of my daughters literally wanted to give her a hug. This restaurant is a disaster. It's very understaffed. I think it's at the management level that needs to be looked at as the servers there are really doing the best they can with what they got. You know, I never thought I'd be at a Perkins in the Midwest finding a gluten free menu, but I did indeed. We were on our long trek to the Pacific Northwest and this was our scheduled stop for the night. We were disappointed to find out the hotel we were staying at, that is attached to this whole complex with the water park, did not have a restaurant. We were towing a trailer and did not feel like driving around town looking for a place to grab a bite. We decided to walk down to Perkins and see what our luck was, our luck was actually pretty darn good. I was surprised to find that the staff was gluten aware and instead of getting the familiar deer in headlights look most Midwest restaurants give me when I inquire about gf, the hostess immediately grabbed their menu. The menu features several breakfast items, salads, and a couple of entrees. It was just what we needed. We already had a few snacks in the car to eat but really just wanted a fresh salad to go with our meal. We ordered the Chef Delux salad which was actually pretty good. The ingredients were fresh and everything came out prepared gf. While its not a gourmet restaurant obviously, you have to give it credit in its category. We had a nice salad, prepared allergen free, and even though we ordered to go, we had great service. It's a solid little spot to grab a bite here at this hotel/waterpark complex. read more

No idea why they couldn't do my takeout order. It's typically acceptable diner food w/ too high of a price tag, not quite here. Hub had burger and fries and said it was fine. (to be fair, he'd eat a burger that fell in a puddle) I had the pick 3 appetizers with chicken fingers (3 small and overcooked) w/ honey mustard dipping sauce (meh), 4 onion rings (freezer bs, nothing special) w/ chipotle mayo (it came with Ranch dressing) and 3 mozzarella sticks that were ice cold w/ marina (canned tomatoes warmed in microwave). $35 for that level of food is shameful. read more

A 16 minute walk there and back from our room to get 3 pieces of pie: Coconut Cream & Apple. We were lucky to get the last piece of Coconut Cream! A little more pricey than I remember, but a worthwhile splurge. And all things homemade have dramatically increased during the pandemic why should pie be any different. I miss seeing all of the beautiful baked goods in their display case - another casualty of the pandemic. We waited over 30 minutes to get our food. Our food was cold. My grandpa had gotten the steak and gravy breakfast and his steak was rock hard, couldn't get a fork in it. When they took it back they just remade the steak and put the old and cold hash brown and sausages back on the plate. My aunt had gotten the strawberry crisps and it tasted like spoiled yogurt and had no strawberries in it. Our eggs were ice cold. We ordered chocolate milk and it smelt like spoiled milk. Our server had a couple tables and took forever for her to even check up on our table. All the tables surrounding us were covered with leftover foods and from the looks of it not other people liked there food. There was a table behind ours that complained to the manager and the manager didn't even say sorry and just kept saying what do you want me to do. After we complained to our server she look like she had been crying. When we took our bill to the counter we asked for the manager because we weren't going to pay full price when we sent more than 50% of it back. The guy at the counter did not grab the manager he just said I will talk to him and hope you have a better day. The bathrooms were unbelievably dirty. The whole place was just not cleaned. Would not recommend! In all it was a 2 hour ordeal and was not worth the waits. Will never go back!! read more
