We called down early to secure a reservation with a good seat. this was wholly unnecessary but was told this may be a good idea anyway. Okay, the following is what I have to say about this restaurant. First of all, the pattern of the carpet was alluring to me and I felt like I was back in my uncles old basement suite. He has weaned me from drinking milk and supplemented with Similac infant formula which sustained me until teenage years. I had the pleasure of sitting facing a delightful art piece of hay bales in a field. It was provocative, on account of the hay, and made me think about life. I ordered the succulent pot roast as I could feel my iron levels depleting after my fissure acted up ALL day! Do not judge about this as this is to do with my personal health and is not affiliated with Perkins Resturant and Country Kitchen. I do work out some days. I am worried the habenero hot sauce may cause further damage but persisted none the less. I was provided a complimentary salad which was on each table. The leaves were red and it was served in a special red foil! When asked the name of this special dish, I was told it is poinsettia! Must be French. when I tried to upsell them, as per instructions on their sign (see photo review), the waiter seemed to suspect me of something so I quickly reminded her that for 9.95 you can add a beverage AND slice of pie. I smacked both lips with glee and an oiled corn kernel slipped out, but waiter Alison said it was ok. she took my airline voucher which I brandished with gusto. I let out a boisterous purompse after my meal which gave me room for the pie selection. there was no mincemeat but they were able to accommodate my hankering for suet with a small birdfeeder outside which was pre-seasoned with various nuts and sunflower seeds. the garnish was magnifique but I chipped a tooth on the cage. the security guard was rather abrasive. next time, I will find another Perkins brand all-American restaurant to better fit my well-established patronage on my next birthday. Overall I would say that I am CONCERNED about my GI function related to previously disclosed issues. I have an appointment on Wednesday to address this and have been using the whipped ointment provided to me as a compliment to my meal. I've become pretty easygoing in my old age. I tend to give most restaurants a four or five star rating, mostly because I know how difficult it can be to run a kitchen. I figure, as long as it seems like everyone involved is putting forward some kind of an effort, the least I can do is be fair and balanced when it comes to my reviews. Perkins didn't seem to care about me or my satisfaction at any point during my interminable visit, which is why I'm giving the place an incredibly rare one-star rating. When we arrived, we were seated in a small booth right next to a fairly noisy family, despite the fact that the restaurant was pretty much empty. Making matters worse, a huge group of rowdy kids wound up occupying three tables right next to our booth shortly after we sat down. It was unpleasant, to say the least. But whatever, I was there for the food, not the ambiance. I wanted something hot and hearty, so I decided to go with the Big Country Sunrise Skillet ("Pork sausage, Applewood smoked bacon, smoked ham, American cheese and cream gravy with two eggs served over crispy smashed tots"). The food arrived about 20 minutes later and it looked like pretty much what I was expecting, although I was concerned by the fact that it was basically swimming in gravy. I took a bite of a tater tot near the edge of the skillet and immediately noticed it wasn't hot. I figured, okay but surely the food in the middle of the plate must be hot. Nope. This dish was somehow room temperature all the way through. I have no idea how they even managed it. Did I get someone's cancelled order that had just been sitting around? It was baffling and infuriating. And while the bacon had a nice smoky flavor, the rest of the dish was mushy and forgettable. It didn't help that every inch of it was covered in this awful, bland cream gravy. I don't know what that stuff was or was supposed to be, but it was pretty gross. The cost of this abomination of a plate? Over $20! Unbelievable. I don't think I even ate half of it before I threw in the towel. It was just so disgusting. We stayed at the attached hotel and received 3 free breakfasts for the 1st day. After that, I wouldn't have paid to eat there. The free breakfast came with a drink, toast, scrambled eggs, a piece of sausage and bacon and hash browns. The eggs had no flavor at all to them and I gave mine away. I truly believe they were powdered eggs. The bacon was medium done so not chewy or crispy so I guess that's to please anyone (I prefer crispy). The sausage only 1 person enjoyed. The toast you could tell had butter on it at one point, but very dry. The best part of the meal was the hash browns. I could have ate those all day. My tea was cool to lukewarm from the moment they gave it to me. We were getting ready to leave, so I went to use the bathroom....I walked out because every stall was disgusting! Do they not flush toilets there? In the restaurants one defense, they were cleaning the men's side when I went to the ladies, so they were getting to it. I had breakfast this morning at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery. It apparently opened at 6am but when I got there about 6:45am, there were no servers or hosts in sight. The sign at the door said to wait to be seated ... so I did ... then I finally sat myself. There was another fella waiting to be seated ahead of me (he waited) and we were the only two in the restaurant for a while so it's not like the servers were busy taking care of others. I built my own breakfast and had a couple fried eggs, toast, bacon and homestyle potatoes. It was a good breakfast. When I was finished, no one gave me my bill so I went to the cash to pay. A couple servers were there talking about one's dog that attacked another dog recently and was going to get sued. They kept talking while ringing my bill in. It was like I wasn't even there. I would think that good customer service would mean they would pause their conversation while taking care of me and then carry on once I've left. The restaurant is attached to the Holiday Inn so you have to take a parking ticket to get in but the restaurant validates the ticket so parking is free for two hours. read more

This was my first time here and my last. The food is bad, the service is worst. There was five of us on Sunday afternoon and they were not busy. At less than half the restaurant had people seated. Our server was slow as hell! I was so annoyed by the time we left. The only thing she brought us was coffee, I ordered juice which didn't come till after the food arrived! The food was mediocre at best. First the brought out the wrong order and got pissy they had to fix it... The scrabbled eggs I had were over cooked and tasteless. And the French toast was meh. Soggy and bland, if it wasn't for the syrup there would be nothing for it. I didn't even finish my meal it was so bad. We had to wait 20 mins for the waitress to come back, keeping in mind she never came to check out table once the whole time, we asked for the bill and hot damn that came in less than a minute. Good to know all they care about was the money. During the service the wait staff were standing around talking, not checking on their tables, not cleaning up tables that left, not even refilling coffees! Saw all the 1 & 2 star reviews, but still wanted to eat biscuits and gravy and grits, foods not easily found in Toronto. So we ignored those reviews complaining about the service and went around 9 pm on a Friday. Ordered shrimp & grits, and a southern fried chicken biscuit breakfast. The shrimp & grits were creamy and flavorful and came w/ what looked like Hawaiian bread and creamy whipped butter. So that's two things that are hard to find here in one dish: grits and Hawaiian bread. The chicken biscuit breakfast was two deep fried chicken filets on buttermilk biscuits topped w/ cheese and creamy gravy PLUS two eggs, bacon and potatoes that were crisp on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. It's like two meals in one. All the food was hot, freshly made and the drinks were expensive, but also bottomless. Also took a chocolate silk pie to go which is what we really came here for. Service was fine, but if it were busier, I could see the server getting overwhelmed. Luckily there was only 4 other occupied tables in our section. read more

This restaurant is very just OK. I'll start with the service, which was typically not good at all. Most waiters and waitresses are not that pleasant and just seem like they're trying to get you out, despite the restaurant not being very busy. For dinner, I had gotten the salmon with veggies and the salmon was dry, the veggies just okay. I had also gotten the chicken and bacon honey mustard sandwich, which was actually good. I would get a side salad which was just alright, the vinaigrette was very thick. Breakfast here is quite good. I'd always get the build a breakfast with eggs scrambled (they are never overdone), the hashbrowns (always tasty), the bacon, and I would always switch up the carbs. We came here on Sat July 7 for an evening snack. We ordered the Chicken crunch salad - the salad was overwhelming iceberg lettuce and few cut pieces of deep fried chicken. Magnificent 7 - 2 eggs your style, pancakes toast or hash brown, bacon or sausages. Ours was 2 egg omelet, 3 pancakes and 2 strips bacon. The pancakes is not from scratch as the menu indicates, it's from a mix that has tons of salt. Not sure what my eggs were supposed to be, it definitely was not an omelet. It was over cooked and inedible. The only thing palatable was the bacon. The waiter was ok, not very attentive and never came back during the meal to ask how the food was. He only appeared in time to settle the bill. The dining room reeks of stale air and cleaning isn't important since the spills on the walls have been there for quite sometime. The mood was for an american breakfast, so Perkins was on the way from where we were coming. Hence, we stopped by to have a big breakfast. The start was excellent as there is a huge parking and the place is quite big. We walk in and lined up to be seated and were found a place easily. From here it was all down hill for me, as I experienced one of the worst customer service possible. The server was not friendly and all about tips with bad service. He put the menu on the table for us to make a selection and left. We ordered scrambled eggs with pancakes and Classic Eggs Benedict and told him if we can get some water as he didn't bring it earlier. As he was caring more things and our 2 glasses of water in one hand, the water was dripping out on to his fingers and leaving darker dirty finger marks on the glass. The food was here after a bit of waiting and the scrambled eggs with pancakes were fine but the Classic Eggs Benedict had peameal bacon or ham slices (I don't eat pork so I am not sure which one was it) in between the egg and toast. I inquired and the waiter argued it said in the menu and will not making me a new one, all he will do is take it out and bring the same plate. He had already taken the menus away and I was not able to check it, as he kept arguing it being on the menu. Came here after a cold night after my friends made me go skating with them which was an absolute fail. Then, Everyone was craving breakfast at 9:30pm. So my friend recommended this place, he said it was kinda like Denny's but not really. So we came here and everyone ordered the breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns with a side order of pancakes. I was tempted But ended up getting the burger meal instead with fries, just to be different. It was alright, the breakfast tasted better! Especially those pancakes with whipped butter, Damn I felt like i was 8 years old on a Saturday morning while watching cartoons! The service was alright, the people are nice but not too nice. Only if absolutely necessary. If I hadn't been a snowstorm, I would have happily made the short trip to nearby Milestone's. Maybe you're different. Maybe you find nothing objectionable about paying $21 for straight-from-the-freezer fish and chips. If you happen to be with an older person then you can get a few bucks knocked off that amount via their 55 Plus menu. The menu is so large that it makes you question what they make well. Based on this experience, I'm going to conclude that the answer may well be nothing. There was food and a napkin under our booth. Not sure how long it had been there, but there were only two other occupied tables while we were there, so the lack of cleanliness wasn't due to high table turnover. The décor is tired and depressing. Staff seem similarly disaffected. So to recap: the sole selling point is the fact that it's accessible without going outside. read more

I've been here about 5 times now and they have been pretty consistent with their service and food. I've been here when they were really busy and food took longer to get to the table, However, they did let us know, but at that capacity it should be expected. The most recent time I was here it wasn't too busy and there were only a couple servers so the food was quick, but there wasn't much service at all. My favourite thing about Perkins is their Tater Tots! Because of my love for Tater Tots, I have tried the Big Bacon Smasher and the Big Country Smasher, and both were delicious! I have also tried the Southern Fried Chicken Biscuit Breakfast and thought it was good, very filling. There was too much biscuit for me, but I enjoyed the combination of everything on the plate. I have tried, and really like their Mediterranean Omelette. The last time I got the Chicken Strips sandwich with Tater Tots and ate half so it was good for a lighter lunch. They have a very big menu so there is always something new to try! I also like that if you order a coffee, they bring you a whole carafe. Makes it easier than waiting for a refill. The location is great as it's close to the airport. I usually end up here for breakfast with the family when I fly in or out of Pearson. read more

Once I sat it took them another ten minutes to take my order. My pancakes took about five minutes to come out. Pancakes were good though they weren't out of this world. Very poor service. I have been coming to this establishment for a few years now and it just keeps getting worse. Today my server barley spoke english, didn't introduce herself properly and was little to no help at all. She was almost no where to be seen when needed and didnt even come to check on us when the food us delivered. I had to ask a busser to tell my server that my breakfast burger was burnt. She told me she'd get me a new one and tell a manager to come by. I waited almost 20mins for a new burger to come out while my boyfriend pretty much finished his entire meal. The manager was not even notified about the problem until we tagged him down. Then we had 3 people try and drop the bill off with a "discount" just to prove that something was done for us. They dropped it off so many times that it felt like they were pushing us to leave. They did not offer desert just persisted that we pay the bill. I wasnt even half way through my new meal before the first bill came to the table and i was asked if i wanted a to go box. So unprofessional. We will not be returning here ever again. read more

I am giving this restaurant a 1 star based on the manager at the front desk. We walked in with a big party of approx 15 and the Manager refused to let me walk in because I was holding a medium Tim Hortons Cup. He centered me out in front of everyone and told me to leave until I threw out the cup. If everyone had not already parked and ready to be seated we would have left. I know everyone did not order as much as they normally would have based on this horrible display of customer service. Not sure how Perkins honestly believes they can compete with Tim Hortons coffee and I will never get why walking in a cup is all of the sudden going to deter anyone from drinking their crappy coffee! Poor business practices, and customer service! It's obvious we were not there for the just coffee and they just lost 15 customers based on this experience. read more

I came here last Sept.25. My server is so rude, I ordered HEARTY MAN COMBO, I was supposed to get a pancake instead of the toast and I told him to please change it to pancake and he told me with not so nice tone "You have to pay for it because it's served already" and I said Sure I will pay for it because I was really craving for a pancake that day. So he went to the Kitchen and then he came back to my table and TOOK THE 4pcs. OF TOAST FROM MY PLATE WITH BARE HANDS AND NOT EVEN SAY ANYTHING. Is he not supposed to say Excuse me or something nice? An interesting bit: when you first walk in, you're asked to sign in with your license plate number if you're not staying at the adjacent Holiday Inn. A bit odd, but we were borrowing a car, and got to know the license number real fast 'cause we ate here several times! The food is delicious. The usual Perkins fare. The need to have a soothing, hot meal is inversely proportional to the temperature outside. It's the digestive equivalent of a warm bath. Especially when they honor special requests. Some of the best customer service I've seen in a long time. My only complaint would be that at least twice, bits of egg shell were mixed in with the eggs. That was distracting and not good. I didn't send it back because I was so hungry, I just tried to work around it. There were so many, you'd think they did it on purpose so we'd get more calcium, or something. No thanks! I do that to my gardens, but it's not for me. Also, it's not really a complaint but an observation: no veggie burgers. Kinda weird. I think they'd sell a lot of them if they had them. The orders were always delivered correctly; the service was courteous, and they had lots of patience for weary travelers. We usually went as the two of us, but our last visit included five, and they still did a fantastic job. We had to leave before I finished my coffee, and a kind waitress (not even the one working our table) took notice and brought me a fresh coffee in a to-go cup! Fabulous! Bless her heart! Two of us went in to wait for a table this afternoon. After waiting a while and another couple coming in, a group of 5 came in and were seated right away. When asked the excuse from the hostess was that they had a table for 5 available right away and not a table for 2. We were then sat at a table for 6, as there is no tables in the restaurant that only seat 2 people. We were going to stay and order food but then the hostess was very intimidating and staring at us around from around the corner. So fear of what they would do to our food and the type of service we had already received, we left. Great Eats! Great quality food and they give you an abundance of it. The plates came quite fast and service was greeted with a smile. Food tasted sooo good, I had French Toast, Pork Sausage, Country style potatoes and eggs all for a very reasonable price. Next time I'm in Toronto, this will be my regular spot to eat for breakfast. Not too shabby. Easily one of the cleanest Perkins I've ever seen. I was told this location was recently renovated. You have to register you license plate at the front counter, as they share the parking lot with a Holiday Inn and it is very close to the airport. We got a nice booth fairly close to the window. Anyhow, the service was very good. The server was quite efficient and we never felt rushed at any point. I had the "Farmer's Omelette" with breakfast potatoes & 3 buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes were light and fluffy....not the best I've ever had but much better than Denny's or The Golden Griddle. The omelette was also very good. They have an interesting way of folding the omelettes. I didn't have room for the breakfast potatoes....so I took them home with me and made a (mostly) homemade scrambler the next day. In our group of 4 everyone ordered breakfast items and were happy with both their meals and the service. Nice job. read more

Typical American style restaurant. By that I mean extra large quantity and lots of fried stuff. Went there the other day for lunch and was happy to find out they serve Breakfast all day! shared an appetizer platter that had fried spring rolls, fried cheese, fried chicken breast pieces and yes, fried string beans. Went this past Sunday for breakfast during a very busy weekend while a highly attended convention was taking place just up the road at the Toronto Congress Center... It took at least five minutes for the hostess to even acknowledge our party of three by the front entrance and about another five to get us seated. On top of that, the server we got was slow to take our orders and slow to get our prepared meals to the table. And then it took forever get our checks and pay because we kept getting yo-yo'd from the front register back to the table because the hostess kept changing her mind whether she wanted to process card and cash payments at a certain point in time or not. We ended up not adding a tip because overall service was an excruciating affair. This restaurant should know that Sunday breakfast service is probably one of their most busiest times and during a highly attended convention even more so. Would not recommend... read more
