Rack of lamb with mushrooms and a baked potato
    Great B.

This is a family owned business since 1993, every time in visits Altavista I always eat here. The staff are friendly and efficient, they grill right out in front, amazing food from burgers to steaks to fish. My favorite is the Cajun crawfish for appetizer it's sooooo good I could eat it twice over, the soak up all the soup with bread mmmmmm Then I get the rack of lamb, medium rare it's absolutely delicious juicy tender and lots of flavor, if this is not on the menu I then have the sea food platter, this is a tuna steak scallops and shrimp Mmmm perfectly done and full of flavor!! I had to buy a t shirt Love this place, never had a bad meal

Literally the best prime rib I've eaten in my life. Absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection!!! The sides were fantastic. Amazing environment and setting in the country! Service was second to none!

Petit Filet, done to a PERFECT medium rare,, green beans and mashed potato with brown gravy.

Doesn't look like much when you walk in, but be prepared for the best steak of your life. I'll admit, the salad and sides aren't great, but the crawfish étouffée is amazing. Available as either an appetizers entree size. The fried mushroom app is great, also. The hamburger is awesome and Rick makes the best Bloody Mary's in town (tell him Mary sent ya! He'll know what you mean.).

Perkeys is a local Steakhouse Restaurant known by everyone locally! If you are not from around here ( central VA) or never been; I will strongly suggest that you make a reservation and wear a mask. If you want to go from their menu order before 5pm!

One star for the steak and one for the service the rest I could have done without. First, I want to say I came into this with a open mind and being fully aware this is not a chain steakhouse. The inside is very small and cramped which wouldn't have mattered if the food lived up to the hype. To sum up the food it was like going to your grandpa's house for for dinner and he breaks out his family famous steak. The salad was a palm full of lettuce with a couple tomato dices and cheese, the baked potato was the size you'd find in a 5lb bag at your grocery store, and my wife's upcharge mushrooms were the ones that come from a jar and we're heated up and the butter were the tiny square packs you get at dinners. My wife made the remark it's like they did the bare minimum so they could say you got a steak "dinner". The steak was good on par with Texas Roadhouse but for $25 all I got was a 10oz ribeye where at TR you'd get 16oz. The $10 scallops I got were good as well but only four so I was disappointed there too. I'm sure the local older crowd are thrilled with the food and prices but for me it's a pass!

Outstanding steak and good sides in a funky, old school setting. Service is always excellent. Usually a good idea to make a reservation.

We came in for breakfast, missed the cutoff, and ended up ordering lunch instead. That shift ended up defining the experience. **FOOD** At the table, we had three different sandwiches, and each one had its own issues, but they all pointed in the same direction. I ordered the Handcrafted King Burger. The name suggests something made in-house, or at least something with a bit of character. What came out looked like a prefab patty. Perfectly round, evenly flat, with the kind of surface you usually see from a frozen product. Flavor was fine, but it didn't match what you expect from a brisket burger. The toppings were standard, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, but the lettuce portion was skimpy and the tomato was sliced so thick it threw the balance off. I ended up cutting it down myself just to make it easier to eat. The fries were fine. Nothing wrong, just nothing memorable. My wife ordered the French dip. It came out dry, which is the one thing that sandwich really can't afford. It didn't seem like it had been dipped at all before serving, and the meat leaned overcooked. The au jus on the side helped once we started using it, but by then you're correcting something that should have been handled in the kitchen. We ended up swapping meals, which usually says enough. My mom went with the BLT, and that was the most disappointing of the three. The bacon was overcooked to the point where it broke down into small pieces instead of giving any real texture. It ate more like bacon crumbles than strips. The tomato had the same issue as mine, cut too thick, and needed to be adjusted at the table. She did like the house chips. Those were crisp, not oily, and easily the most complete item that came out. Across multiple plates, the Swiss cheese stood out, and not in a good way. It had the look and texture of a lower-end processed slice rather than something you'd expect from a deli. It showed up more than once, which made it feel like a standard shortcut rather than a choice. **SERVICE** Service was steady. Our waitress stayed on top of refills and checked in without hovering. Orders were taken correctly, food came out in a reasonable time, and nothing got missed. **AMBIENCE** The space is clean and organized, and it's clear they take care of it. It's a little smaller than it looks online, but it works. Nothing feels out of place, and it's comfortable enough to sit and eat without distraction. **CLOSING** This feels like a place that might do one part of the menu better than another. Based on this visit, lunch didn't hold up. Too many small things were off across multiple plates, and it adds up. We'll likely come back and try breakfast, but there's not much here that would bring us back for lunch. **RATINGS** Food: ** Service: **** Ambiance: **** Overall: *** Personal Disclaimer: I value small, independent restaurants and want them to succeed. This review reflects a single visit and may not represent every experience. EVERY RESTAURANT IS WORTH TRYING FOR YOURSELF. Go, see what you get, and be honest in how you evaluate it. I've worked as an executive chef, restaurant manager, and owner. I tend to hold places to a higher standard. Execution matters. Freshness matters. Effort shows. Cutting corners usually does too.

It's next to a small playground and new amphitheater, so I'm sure this place gets quite busy on weekends. One person in our party said her salad had the best dressing she's ever had. The fried pickles were good. The shrimp was good. One bartender was good. Cons - We walked in and basically weren't sure what to do. There was a woman at we thought was a hostess stand, but she never said anything to us. We finally asked if we needed to check in with her to get seated. We did. But it was kind of weird. One bartender was awful. Never made eye contact. Wouldn't take any orders. Acted like she wanted to be anywhere else. I thought the Caesar salad was ok. It came with lacquered salmon. I would have loved the salmon, but not lacquered. It couldn't be made to order. Ok fine. I ordered it the way it was described. There was nothing lacquered about that salmon. It also was shredded on top of the salad and was maybe two ounces. That's ridiculous. Our server wasn't very helpful and not very attentive. I'm sure many people have had great experiences there, but I'm not sure I would take the time to go back.
