When plugged in the guitar made no sound. As a possible first timer, I called the shop and was referred to Zack. We talked and I explained the problem. While talking, I got the sense that he knew what to do. New wiring harness. New pots. Setup. I brought the Dead Kramer in, having stripped out the wiring harness. Zack told me, probably two weeks. As I left, I saw pots in blister packs for sale on the wall behind the cash register. That gave me confidence that this was the right place. About a week and a half in I called and he told me it would be ready by the end of the week. I waited until the beginning of the next week. I did have to go back to get the Floyd Rose handle, but no big deal. Zack had it. The Kramer is now in the hands of a 13 year old who is learning Rush licks and Dropped D tunings. Mission Accomplished. I'll be back.

The one negative review I see here - the writer strikes me as an impossible to please and/or passive/aggressive kind of person - my gut tells me he's crafted an intentionally exaggerated one-sided story because he was unhappy when he found out that his piano was not worth as much as he was hoping. Phil is in fact very polite, professional and upfront, so something doesn't add up in this story. When you come here and actually meet with Nancy and Phil, you'll understand. Other competitors in the area are also run by good folks, but Nancy and Phil are outstanding and are head and shoulders above. Check their Google Maps reviews and you'll see more praise for them. So I've been going to MusicLand since I was a kid. That's the local music shop and as a kid I loved…read moregoing there, it was like a candy store to me. Moved away for college but now I'm back in my hometown and love to support local business. I recently went in to get my bow repaired and new strings for my violin. The repair guys (I believe his name was Gary) in the back were awesome and very kind. But the employees on the floor... 1. I've never been greeted upon entry the past couple times I've gone. 2. It felt like I was bothering them to ask for strings or to be rung up. They had an air of annoyance that I interrupted their conversation behind the counter. I chalked it up to maybe they were having a bad day. Yesterday I went in, I know exactly what I want. I want a coil instrument cable. The employee's first response was "you know those are super expensive" Which yeah... I do know. Don't look at me like I'm crazy for knowing I want a very specific item. For frame of reference a top shelf coil cable averages at $60.00 USD. I just spent more than that to have my violin bow rehaired. I explain that "yes, I want a coil cable because there is a certain tone I want for my instrument." I yet again get another incredulous look. This was after I was led to their selection of cables. They're sold out of coil cables. I wasn't offered to put in an order, or to leave a number for when they were restocked. I'm bummed because I want to support local businesses especially those regarding the arts. But I'm really fed up with how the sales floor employees treat me. I'm probably only going to come back if it's for repairs.

They mentioned a Flash Sale happening on 10/31/25, but unfortunately my card wasn't working at the time. Later, I reached out to their Facebook page and received a very kind message from Larry (the owner), who assured me that once my card was working, they would take care of me. And I have to say... they did exactly that. The entire team was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely honest--whether I was looking at a $500 guitar or a $2,000 guitar. Noah spent nearly an hour walking me through different options, answering questions, and helping me narrow down the style and feel of the guitar I truly wanted. In the end, I walked out with a PRS S2 Custom 24-08 in Lake Blue--my first electric guitar, and an absolutely stunning one at that. I couldn't be happier with the choice. It was on my bucket list to return to piano. I have not had lessons since age 12 or played much…read moresince age 20. Now in my mid-sixties, I signed up for weekly lessons for the two months I was off during the summer. My fingers are clumsy, I do not have an ear, had forgotten how to read music, have forgotten what I used to know, and do not learn as easily as I did at 12! Since I perform so badly, my teacher, Lafayette Gilchrist - a working jazz musician and a tower of patience and diplomacy - cannot know how far he has brought me in only seven weeks! My goals were to read music again and eventually accompany elementary school students who sing. Thanks to Lafayette, I have achieved a modest level of literacy; I can recognize, choose and attempt to play music of a level appropriate to where I am now. I understand some notation I didn't know before and am no longer intimidated by anything that looks like I should be able to learn to play it. I can see myself accompanying children one day. Much unlike my 12-year-old self, I now enjoy practicing. I see all of this as a boost in my quality of life. I can't thank Lafayette or the Music Workshop enough and hope to return the next time I have a chunk of time off.

My older son is now 8 and has had so many opportunities to perform, doing wonderful things for his confidence, even in front of a large crowd. Both kids have even made great friends! I've recommended a number of families to the school and they all love it as well. I highly recommend giving it a try, Carl and Nick run the school and are the nicest and most accomadating guys. Was willing to roll with that for a little bit, as technology does bring some interesting opportunities for improvement - but I observed that a) the kids were given synth keyboards (which have a very different feel), not digital pianos, to play on, b) the keyboards were set way too high relative to their seats for them to learn to play. The feedback inevitably was that our kids were doing a great job, even when they hadn't practiced at all - I understand the positivity and I know few people have time to put in the necessary practice (I myself have 15ish years of piano so know what kind of practice is required) but it felt like it was more about just going through the motions and getting the money for a class than actually teaching anybody anything. Then one of the instructors made a comment about my kid that seemed wildly out of line, so we quit. While I'm sure this is not everyone's experience, I'd say it's better to go with a place that's more serious about teaching, less franchisey.
