I was referred by my beloved dentist to Dr. Shea at Endodontic Associates. I admit I didn't ask any…read morequestions, just made the first available appointment. When I arrived, I found I had been scheduled with Dr. Gerald Dietz rather than the referred doctor. Apparently, Dr. Shea only works there on Fridays, having a larger practice in Rochester. This turned out to be the second worst dental appointment of my life, surpassing only my first experience with a dentist at age 5 when the "child friendly" dentist tied me to the chair and stuck his finger down my throat to stop me from crying (apparently it scared the other children). Dr. Dietz did neither of these things, but adminstered the most painful anesthetizing shots I have ever had, and did not schedule enough time for the entire root canal, necessitating a second appointment a week later. The root canal was properly done, and after insisting on speaking with him about his injection methods, the second appointment was not particularly traumatic. I know I was terrified at the idea of a root canal, which turned out to be no big deal once the pain killers were working, so I take some responsibility for being tense. I did, however, explain this in advance multiiple times to EVERYONE in the practice, as well as the doctor. He was uncommunicative and seemed rushed. I will not return.

Starting with Megan in the office--the perfect "front man" if ever there was one, Everest Endodontics took excellent care of me. In fact, I'll never have to find another endodontics provider again. Whew. In fact, they ticked all the boxes of Mike's Hierarchy of Needs with Style and Grace. ***Here they are: Give a darn about what you do. Do a great technical job. Don't hurt me. Involve me in my care. Be nice to me. My fear started to come back as I skeptically surveyed all the high tech items around me when I entered the treatment room. So many middling healthcare providers "juice the bill" and hide their incompetence behind "tech" like the Wizard did behind the Curtain in Oz. Not So Here! I personally benefited from each image taken, scope used, tool handled. The purpose and need for each image and device was explained to me, and every image viewed with me. I've looked at countless x-rays, MRI's, and CT scans, and I can tell you- his gear gets him great data with which he can really plan the procedures well. Dr Askar in particular did the most effective block I have ever experienced, and he did it patiently, without rushing, and in multiple painless stages.No kidding. Maybe one mild pokey feeling and that was it. The blocks lasted each entire procedure and were gone in several hours. Dr. Askar has really good hands. Since I wasn't in a traumatized state I was able to experience with admiration his Strength and Dexterity. My confidence in him grew by the minute and my ability to stay *comfortably* in the moment increased likewise. He never used the soft, sensitive tissue inside my mouth as a "foot rest" for his hands if you know what I mean. It's hard to explain just how respectful of me and my tissue was his technique, but as a person with decades of surgical experience I can tell you he was. He and Sydney work in a well choreographed dance. He is fast. He runs the room almost imperceptibly. At first I wasn't sure about Sydney the (dental assistant?-I apologize I don't recall your title) It seemed like she was gonna be one of those "all cold efficient business" types (oh no...please, not a Nurse Ratched... Stress meter going up!!), but as soon as she started making eye contact and talking With me--I melted with relief. She was just grand. She stood still and listened to my needs and concerns in a way that made me feel heard and cared about. Sydney worked with me to get my tight-necked crook-spine self comfortable in a position in which Dr Askar could work very effectively and did so without making be feel self-conscious or "needy." She and Dr Askar kept me informed of steps and their timing all along the way. She even took time after the procedure to continue teaching me and showing me things. Hi nice was that?! Sydney kept me comfortable. Honest to goodness, she raised the art of sticking things in and out of a mouth to a new level. Whether it was a bulky x-ray device or a sucker that needed to get "right exactly there" she got it done rightly and pleasantly. I never once had to ask her to suction or help her get out of my mouth what had to be got out. She just knew. Sydney should be made the Queen of Assistants. First Chair Extraordinaire! I was kind of a chore to get done, I know. So after Dr Askar was done reviewing every finding, technique, and implant, and after he cautioned me about pain, possible problems with infection, my medications, (well and fairly said), he gave me his cell phone number. Uh-oh. He must be expecting the worst. Then He CaLLEd Me! OMG! I'm gonna die. He's gonna tell me I'm a goner...Nope. He's just a man who gives a darn about what he does and the people for whom he does it. I'd never expect the warm fuzzies or a hug from him, but that all was just as good. I made an appointment for my husband for a 9am appointment for a cleaning on a Friday morning and…read morefor me on a Saturday morning. Seems like this is a newer facility. They sent a text to fill out some forms online, which makes it easier to start the process. The staff did ask us to call our insurance rep to indicate we chose this facility for both of our cleaning to make it easier for processing the insurance and billing to us. I see why. I have been on the call on hold to speak to an agent for my insurance for over a half hour. My husband's appointment was the day before mine. He said he was in and out pretty quickly. The hygienist does the x-rays, but the dentist actually does the cleaning and the rest of the dental appointment. The dentist has an electric tool that they use for removing the plaque. He said it's a little discomforting if you're sensitive and can make you a little squirmy. There's also part of a procedure during the cleaning that's all heavy wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. My husband said the dentist has good bedside manners. The only uncomfortable part of the appointment was the electric tool used to remove the plaque. Mentally prepared me that I would probably find this uncomfortable as well. I really like that they have Saturday morning appointments, that worked out really well, since my work week is not ideal from 7 AM till 7 PM. It's located in a red brick, red roof building complex next to La-Z-Boy. Building D, nicely labeled on the outside of the building, to locate it easily. My appointment took a bit longer, since I had a chipped tooth from some sichuan food at a restaurant before the holiday. I arrived about 5 minutes before my appointment. Handed over my driver's license and my insurance card. There was a man behind the receptionist desk, he got up and a younger woman took my cards. She was making the appointments as well. The same woman after I asked if they were aware that I have a chipped tooth said they would take some X-rays. I was taken back to the hygiene room and fitted with the little wipe up napkin around my neck a few minutes before the start of my appointment slot. 8 minutes after my appointment time the hygienist was in and finished my X-Ray for my chipped tooth in less than 10 minutes. The dentist, Dr. Nikki came to the hygiene room about 20 minutes after the start of my appointment. She used the electric plaque tool, while the hygienist held the suction vacuum and irrigation. Then the doctor used the paste to clean my teeth. More X-rays done 40 minutes in. There was a bit of confusion for my first appointment. It was put down for the chipped tooth only. So my cleaning was first. I would have to wait a little while the dentist to finish another patient's resin appointment before my chipped tooth could he looked at and polished smooth. The sugar and acid poster is interesting, especially to see battery acid listed at the bottom of the list. I have watched my strange addiction, so I guess it happens. My teeth look good, just the chipped pre molar. Perfectly aligned too. Not to shabby. She asked if I floss every day and brush every day, twice a day. I said yes at the least. She asked if I use an electric toothbrush. I said a Sonicare. In another room adjacent to another exam or procedural room with only the chair blocked off by a partial wall. This room has slightly newer chairs. Looks like there are air filters in every exam room. Dr. Nikki is back by to me a little after an hour of my appointment start. She was quick and finished smoothing out my pre molar in less than 5 minutes. It's so rare that the dentist is part of most of your appointment and cleaning. Dr. Nikki does have good bedside manners. A few times I couldn't understand her, but she's nice and informative. The building and facility is a bit older, maybe 20-30 or more years old. Dr. Nikki and the staff are warm and welcoming. Out the door after an hour and 10 minutes, not too bad considering I had more than a cleaning done today. My teeth feel nice and clean.
