Customer service is not a prior here. I arrived and I greeted the woman at the counter with a Hi. She said hi back and immediately disappeared behind a door emblazoned with EMPLOYEES ONLY. A man sat alone in the small dining area scrolling through his phone not looking up, not acknowledging my presence. Wandering around trying to make myself seen, I entered my order into one of those kiosk things that excuse restaurant proprietors from interacting face to face. 10 minutes later another woman appeared not to greet me but to replenish a self serve drink dispenser. I said to her that I ordered a dish and wanted "for here" because this was not one of the options in the kiosk ordering process. She acknowledged that I had ordered and she disappeared behind that door. All the while, two women were holding a spirited discussion in the kitchen, ignoring anything that could have been happening in front. I have not gotten any food yet. I definitely did not finish everything and now have food for dinner as well. It was my first time here and decided to dine in. The service was reasonably quick and everything came out nice and hot. The Lamb dish I tried had mild spice which was what I asked for. They can adjust the spice to your liking as well. No complaints on the Naan and Bolani. The guy at the front was nice and recommended I try their homemade kheer which is like a rice pudding - it was such a nice treat! Perfectly sweet. Peshawari is my favorite restaurant in the entire bay area!! And that's saying a lot because I'm a foodie and am always on the lookout for the best quality and tasting food. They deliver every single time! If you haven't yet tried Peshawari karahi, kabab and rice or are missing authentic home food, this is the spot! The best, freshly made karahi in all of Bay area!! We always go for their chicken peshawari karahi and I'd rate it 10/10. My partner also loves their lamb karahi, 10/10 from him but I don't eat red meat so I cannot comment on it. They have delicious chapli kabab that are served with a generous serving of rice 10/10. Their naan is of superior quality and taste, we always order extra to take home. They also have great service and tea on tap. Something to keep in mind is that the karahi is made from scratch with fresh tomatoes after you place your order, none of that purees or tomato paste that you'll get at most restaurants, so it does take some time to make the karahi. Factor that in and my advise would be to order over the phone before your arrival, it will cut down your wait time. I wouldn't count the wait time between order and service of food as a con since they're making it fresh and from scratch and I would not have it another way. 10/10 on service as well! read more

It was my second visit here in two years and I loved the food, once again. I'm really surprised with some of the recent low ratings and negative reviews, but my experience was very different. Peshawari Kababs is a medium-sized restaurant in a strip mall with enough parking. It seems like an older restaurant but is extremely clean, and has decent interiors. You can absolutely dine in here; this is not your hole in the wall takeout-only place. There was a single person handling the welcoming, getting the table ready, taking the order, and bringing in the food when we dined in, but she was very efficient, pleasant, and doing everything with a smile on her face - no complaints at all. We started off with the potato bolani. I liked that we could specify the level of spice, something that we often can't do with bolani. And the addition of some spice really helped me enjoy this potato flatbread, compared to other Afghan places. The bolani paired wonderfully with their complimentary chai (milk tea). For the main course, my partner and I shared a charsi goat karahi and paired it with naans. The goat karahi is to be ordered by the pound (it is definitely a little pricey at $25 per lb) and takes about 30-35 minutes to arrive once you place the order because it's slow cooked. Old review, forgot to write one at the time (july 2021) Coming from San Jose this place was quite a drive. Luckily no wait time as we went early in the day and got to sit in their nice elevated seated place with the carpet and back rear cushions The chapli kabob plate was ok but expected more meat instead of just one meat only but maybe two of them. The rice was bland, a bit diff from afghans brown rice (qabuli pulao). The naans were different maybe that's how peshawri naans r say compared to the naans from pakwan. The famous karahi though felt like mostly Botis with bones and less salan , and the seekh kebab items weren't anything exciting. Luckily just came once prolly not again cuz too far and didn't stand out. Also was quite pricy too.. their kulfi and chai was good The staff was nice and alhamdullilah no music was playing too. On the urgings of one of our friends we drove up 880 to Union City CA to visit this eclectic place. The special seating for a truly sit-down meal, did inspire us but as we were not dressed appropriately we chose to sit inside at their regular dining tables. The place seemed requiring a little TLC but did remind me of the exotic local eating houses which would exist in the city of Peshawar and possibly across Kabul. The menu is quite extensive and the take on regular items too is quite unique . They serve chicken, beef, goat, lamb and fish in meat, but I understand their unique cuisine is highlighted in the gamey goat dishes that they serve. They also serve vegetarian fare but we left that for another time. Also they have some great desserts which we promised ourselves to make the long trip for , soon. So here is what we ordered : 1. Potato Bolani - a staple in any Afghani restaurant, a huge Paratha (bread) stuffed with boiled potatoes and fired. This was done very well here and came with a saucer full of fresh yogurt. 2. Goat Brain Masala - the star dish of our meal here. Made very very well and went very well with the hot Roomali rotis that we had ordered. NOTE : the Roomali rotis though extremely soft when hot are not paper thin as they are traditionally served in SouthEast Asia, so they get tough and chewy if not consumed quickly. Devour them as soon as they are served else repent later. 3. Goat Karahi - huge pieces of goat meat seared/cooked in a wok (Karahi) within minimal spices. Was a bit gamey for my taste but others at the table did enjoy it . 4. Chicken Seekh Kebab - the absolute find for the evening!! Minced chicken meat mixed with amazing spices and then put on to a skewer and cooked ice open fire . We all agreed we will need to come back for more very very soon!! 5. Goat Biryani - very subtle spices used and meat kept gamey and cooked with a wonderful variety of the long grained rice ( Basmati, I presume ) 6. Lamb Behari Kebabs- five huge chunks of roasted but gamey lamb served over a bed of delectable rice! We also got free Chai and ordered a mango lassi, both of which were very good. I ordered the biryani rice and when I called the owner of the restaurant just to inform him how the meat was so hard to chew he reached into my place and started pulling the lamb pieces apart and looked at me like I was on drugs. I am a huge foodie and alway go to restaurants on a regular basis and if I like the food and service I make sure to let them know. Chicken pieces were meaty and very nicely cooked. The masala was not over powering and tasted very authentic. Maash ki daal was the surprising star of the evening. Desi ghee added both a distinct smell and unique taste - which reminded us of back home. Very authentically cooked. Taste was great. Naan and roti were soft and fluffy. Chapli kabab were ok. I am not a huge fan of Peshawari style chapli since they are very thick. And these seemed a bit overcooked from the sides. But my friends liked them. Afterwards we had kheer - which was more Afghan style firni. It was good. They also served chai, which was decent. We sat outside, on their distinct style sitting area, where you have to take off your shoes and sit desi style. That doubled the fun. Weather was great. Overall, very nice experience. The service was friendly and attentive. The karahi is cooked fresh so it takes them 50-60 minutes to cook. Fortunately we ordered half an hour before we showed up there, so that really helped. I decided to try this place on my way home and I'm so glad that I did! Right when you walk up to the restaurant, you would be immediately be greeted by a beautiful dining set up in the front shown in the pictures I've attached. The surrounding area was very well kept and clean. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and had the option to order from the menu or on a touch screen self order kiosk. I chose the kiosk and it was very easy. I was live streaming (twitch.tv/amkidd) the late lunch and had all of my gear so I opted to sit outside so that I don't disturb any of the patrons. I chose a good time because there was plenty of seating outside. I ordered Tandoori chicken boti and plain rice. I will admit that I had high expectations but this place was completely blew it out of the water. From the presentation of the meal to the taste, it hit all the right spots. Chicken was juicy and will seasoned and the brown rice was also prepped to compliment the chicken. The prices were fair and it definitely was worth it for the quality of food. This restaurant is a mixed bag. Food: The best thing about this place is that the food is actually very good. The meat for the kebabs was well-seasoned and flavorful. We had a few types of kebabs, a wrap, and the samosa appetizers. Everything was tasty and left me wanting more. Value: Portions are not particularly big, significantly smaller than the pictures indicate if you order online. Price is on-par with other similar restaurants nearby. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either. Service: I ordered online and the website said 45 minutes, but it was an hour and five minutes before it was ready. The people working there aren't particularly warm and welcoming, but they're professional, and everyone was working. I generally don't grouse about late food if everyone I see is hustling and the food is fresh, and both of the criteria were met, in this case. Ambiance: The decorations on the walls are kind of slapdash, but it gave me a lot to look at while I stood there for 20 minutes. There are a couple of grand paintings on one wall worth looking at. On the other hand, it was kind of grimy inside, with shadows of gunk under furniture and in corners.
