3.5 stars Urban Kitchen has a casual, sports bar vibe with multiple TV screens and beer on tap. Their menu, however, featured a surprising selection of creative Indian fusion dishes! From their Specials menu section, I tried the Chicken Kebab Plate, which came with spiced chicken grilled to juicy perfection with peppers and onions, and served with a simple salad (lettuce, tomatoes, chickpeas), mint cilantro, and a chewy garlic naan on the side. I also had their Curry Plate, which came with a bowl of tikka masala with paneer, along with salad and garlic naan on the side. Disappointingly, the curry was nothing more than a thick tomato soup with barely a hint of spice. This would definitely not be the place to come for authentic Indian eats, but perhaps some of their more creative menu options would have been more memorable. Food - as a vegetarian I had almost no choice other than paneer! There is no concept of veggies. I had soy chaap- which was as good as it can be- about 3 stars. Rumali roti was awesome- for food I will give 3stars. Service- there was no service concept- you order food at counter and food is given in disposable containers. Ambience- small room with clean but non expensive furniture. It is not inviting or a place where you can sit for hours ! Loud panjabi music playing! Tops 2.5 stars. Value - this is where I struggled the most. We had 1 paneer burrito and 1 soya chaap that was served in disposable containers and that costed over 40$. I would get better value at many other Indian restaurants in Fremont for that price and some places on peninsula as well! Stay away from this place. It's not the same Urban Kitchen as it used to be after relocating. The food quality has gone down the drain. The burger buns are some cheap ones from Walmart . My wife ordered a noodle burger and she got food poisoning afterwards. The burger was soggy and cold and she only took a few bites. This place is perfect for when you want to eat North Indian food but don't want to sit down at a traditional restaurant sort of setting. It's a very hip place which serves mainly a variety of Punjabi cuisine fusions. The music inside the establishment plays lots of great Punjabi artists like the late legend Sidhu Moosewala & plays sports channels with a bar, a few booths and tables like a BWW so it's a fun vibe. Parking is spacious too and is shared in the plaza that the Safeway is in. My boyfriend and I have come here multiple times this month and I have gotten the Samosa Poutine with Paneer each time which is the perfect amount of spicy (I'd say medium level) and he gets the Dahi Papadi Chaat which is cooling because of the yogurt. I also like to get the Mango Hazy IPA on top to wash this down with. We always feel adequately full after we eat and for an appetizer it's a pretty decent portion for when I have chaat cravings. Surprisingly not a lot of people know about this gem. One of the very few restaurants in the bay area who offer good Indian fusion options. The menu is really interesting and there are so many different things to try here. We loved Soya Chaaps, Sliders and tacos here. The food is tasty and the serving size is good too. The best thing about this place is that they are open till late so it is a good option to grab a bite after an evening movie show or other hangouts. Service is pretty quick. The new menu showed new additions like tandoori broccoli and grilled stuffed mushrooms, so I drove my foodie self all the way to Newark only to find that the mushrooms were not grilled and there was nothing tandoori about the broccoli. Why? :( - tandoori broccoli : 1/5, ton of food color (yellow fingers, and no this isn't haldi), salt and no tandoori flavors. Just skip. - stuffed mushroom : 1/5, stuffed with potato. Back after a while and I asked what kind of chicken is in the regular quesadilla and the kids chicken quesedilla. She said "tandoori chicken". Came out with plain chicken and cheese and was told by the cashier "sorry I didn't know". No refund or replacement offered. Poor customer service. I didn't visit the original Urban Kitchen before it was moved to this location, but I hope it was much better than the terrible experience I received here. - Very hot and uncomfortable inside (no A/C running) - dirty floors and tables - no bathroom for customers, so you can't wash your hands before you eat. There is a non working sink on the side of the eating area which is pointless. - no-one at the front to take your order. The two employees seemed to prefer being hidden in the back away from the customer and front counter. - We had a simple order. The food took over 30 minutes to arrive. Even the other group of customers who ordered just after us (which was a simple chicken burger) ended up waiting for more than 30 minutes too. - Bad customer service and attitude. Asked for water - didn't get any with my order. Went up to the counter and waited - no one came to attend. Rang the bell and one employee came forward (very reluctantly) and I explained I would like some water. I was expecting him to come back with it, but no. The other employee then came back out and I had to repeat what I wanted, which was the thing he forgot in the first place. The look on his face was one of great irritation like I was the one troubling him. - The value for money is terrible. Prices are way too high for the tiny amount of food you receive. - Quality of food is awful. The chicken they put in the burger is too thin. It's not even cooked very well. The butter chicken sauce tastes cheap. The same can be said for most of the other ingredients and dishes. It all seems poor quality, overpriced and not cooked very well. AVOID. This sudden cold weather had me craving some chai and chaat (Indian street food), and a quick Yelp search brought us here. We ordered the aloo tikki, samosas and chicken Kathi roll. Hubs loved the tikkis but the samosas and the Kathi roll had all my attention. A large flat bread layered with an omelet and generously filled with delectable chicken! Think Indian style chicken burrito. This paired with their very fresh and spicy green chutney was seriously one of the better Kathi rolls I've tasted outside of India! Any other app, expect $2-3 upcharge per item; I compared 3 items and it's all marked at a premium on Grubhub. Shouldn't be surprising but if you got a large order or ordering multiple items, that all adds up + any delivery fee + tips, etc. Got the lamb kathi roll which was humongous and very large pieces of meat. Followed my instructions and added egg, which did not cost extra $0.50 or $1. Very flavorful with the spices! However, with the special cream chicken entree, it is quite a heavy dish so ordering carbs or some veggie side would probably help. It's definitely too much for one person sitting. The minus 1 star is that the chicken was rubbery and pretty much dependent on the sauce to cover that. Will want to come back and try other items though. read more

This was my first visit here. Stopped by with a few friends. I ordered Tandoori soya chaap, paneer Kathi roll, paneer chaat salad, and street slider trio. I think the Paneer Kathi roll was pretty decent. The wrap was very fresh and crispy at times, the filling was rich with paneer and eggs. I'd surely recommend this if you haven't been here before. It's quite big and filling as well. I liked the value for money for the slider trio. It has one each of aloo tikki, samosa, and paneer pakora slider. I paid extra for a side of soda and masala fries. I really enjoyed the aloo tikki and samosa slider. They were warm, crispy, and very flavorful. The slider buns were nicely warm too. The paneer one wasn't as crispy but the flavor was to the point. I think this is quite a meal for one person. I was a bit disappointed with the soya chaap. It seemed more like a curry than a chaap. I'd have preferred lesser curry if I had known earlier. The chaap seemed to be low on flavor and most of the flavor seemed to come from the curry. Also, there is some disagreement between the printed menu and the digital menu on display, the varieties of chaap is more on the digital one than the printed one. The paneer chaat salad is exactly what it sounds like. It has the paneer from Kathi roll, chana masala from other stuff, and some lettuce with chutneys and all. I think it should rather be just called chaat because the salad part is just a few lettuce pieces. Though I should appreciate the generous amount of chickpea and paneer, I also wanted some generous potion of lettuce. I took this one home to add some more lettuce and spinach and have it for lunch the next day. They have a lot of variety of Indian street food. And hence most of the ingredients are used in more than one dish. Hence the flavors might not be 100% per one dish but still pretty decent. I'd surely recommend this place and visit again. read more

Came by here for the first time. I've always wanted to try it and it has some decent reviews. I orrdwees the butter chicken and chicken shawarma wrap. Over all, 7.5 out of 10. Wasn't a big fan of the shawarma wrap as the pita tasted a bit off to me. The butter chicken was decent but had a bit more of a tomatoey taste for me. The beer on tap is excellent. They have local and international beers. I'll definitely be coming back to taste some of those. Customer service was great by the front register. Furthermore, the interior has a modern feel and they have TVs around the entire restaurant. Might be nice to catch a game here soon.
