This is the true "pet shop" in Lynchburg with a large selection of pet supplies and actual pets. I have not purchased any of the smaller animals, reptiles or fish from them but the facility is clean and the staff clearly have a passion. The puppies are really well taken care and seem happy. What I have purchased there and will keep purchasing is the specialty dog food which my dog requires and is cheaper than what I would have to spend buying it online. read more

I'm exhausted of buying fish, working with staff to get a really expensive setup, and put in so much work to only have this fish last merely three days. I never had this issue before with previous fish I had acquired two years beforehand. An employee mentioned the supplier for the fish was changed not too long ago & I implore the owner to please look into your suppliers because I am exhausted of my fish dying off despite keep up maintenance. Pet supplies I have passed this place countless times and finally went in as I was in search of a specific brand of dog food. The store is MUCH larger than it appears from the outside - plus there is a whole lower level to the place. Huge selection of pet products to choose from for whatever your particular animal love is. Since I only have dogs, I can only attest to the dog side of things, but there is a huge food selection available at very good costs- same as I had been getting on Amazon. Helpful employees round out the experience. Beyond the dog food area, there are tons of dog related products for your little buddy: treats, bones, bedding, crates and so on. I do browse the store when there and they service all sort of pets: fish, birds, reptiles, and cats are all represented, so shop till you drop. There is also an outdoor fish pond products area. Parking lot is large and all around the perimeter of the place, use caution on the entrance is it is an uphill turn off of busy Wards road. read more

I LOVE this aquatic warehouse. There is so much to say about it. They have such a selection of both freshwater and saltwater fish. They have live plants, snails, and shrimp as well. All of the staff is super friendly and super helpful. There is a certain guy that works in the fish department who we hope is there every time we go. He's so upbeat and SO knowledgeable. He teaches me something new every time I come in there! He knows which fish are good to pair with in a community tank. He will also be honest and tell us if we shouldn't choose out of a certain tank because the fish in there have been dying off and not doing well. All of the tanks are super clean as well. Back in 2020 we took our pup to paws to get some treats, he had just got his last round of shots a few days prior. What we didn't know was paws had a parvo outbreak. Obviously it would hurt sales since they sell pups. About a week after going we had to put our sweet baby to sleep due to parvo. (The only place we took him was paws, we lived in the country so outings weren't common) He was to small to fight it. I get being a pet store illness can happen. But they should be responsible enough to make it aware that there is something contagious going on. I had other dogs at home. Another one got it but thankfully she made it through. The only reason I found out about was through an employee that could have gotten in serious trouble for saying anything. Moral of the story, go there at your own risk. read more

We recently purchased a guardian gear collapsible dog crate within 24 hours the metal support in the dog crate came through the side and cut our daughters ankle seeing how our daughter is only three years old we brought the crate back to the manager on duty told me they do not accept anything they cannot immediately turn around and resell so if anything is broken it cannot be returned regardless of how soon it was purchased and regardless of having a receipt the cost of this dog crate was $110 so essentially we spent $110 on a product that was damaged and it wouldn't exchange or return it. *Ferret buyers beware* My Girlfriend and I have purchased Two ferrets from this store. Our first one back in the end of September 19', brought him home, was told to keep him on Marshall's premium ferret diet, etc. A week or so went by and we noticed that the ferret became very inactive and just seemed depressed. Our initial thought was that he needed a companion to play with, so we returned to PAWS a few weeks later around the middle of October and Purchased another one. Few days go on and we realize the one we recently purchased has discharge from his eye and diarrhea. PAWS gave use a bottle of Marshall's Branded medicine and we tried that for a few days only to see symptoms get worse. So we returned, and They allowed us to exchange for another. We picked him out, brought him home, and again active for a few days and then nothing. Both ferrets seem very depressed and uninterested in interacting. The one we exchanged for has also had severe shaking, similar to that of when a ferret wakes up but it's constant and lately hasn't been eating much or drinking. He's now just staring off into space and doesn't want to play. So mind you this is roughly $700 invested. That's not really the issue. The issue I have is when we call and have a raised concern and drive to the store because the manager told us they will "look at him". They take him behind a locked door, ten minutes pass by and they come out and say he seems perfectly fine, even though he has hardly any weight to him, they said he seemed dehydrated, they judged by the fact that he walked. And his constant "shivering" and shaking was because he was "nervous" All I wanted was a second ferret to companion the one that we bought originally and it seems the second and third time around we couldn't get a healthy one from this store and there response is "it's been too long, and he seemed fine when we sold him to you" is ridiculous. We didn't invest the amount of money we did to have to turn around and have a possibility for numerous vet visits and bills. We expected to purchase healthy pets that would atleast make it 30 days before there being any possibility of a problem. Their so called "health guarantee" only grants you the possibility of a replacement in one year if the ferret dies given you keep them on a food that is deemed to be bad in health for them to begin with. Absolutely ridiculous, management at this store should be more helpful to customers especially when it comes down to the amount of money one pays for their pet. Even other people I work with who have had ferrets from them have had similar problems with them. I will not be returning to this store for anything from here on out and I advise anyone that is looking to purchase a ferret let alone any animal from here to beware of this place! read more

I called this store the night before I drove over from Roanoke because I have a ton of baby cichlids to get rid of. I told the guy on the phone about how many I had to bring over (about 40-50) and he said yeah that's fine bring them all over. So on Thursday, Sept 14th at 7pm, I arrive with around 50 baby cichlids and the lady working in there, very hateful by the way, said they will only take 20. After I caught all those fish and drove all the way over. Even called the night before to confirm that they'll take them, but what good did that do me? So I had to tote 30 fish all the way back home. I will never take any fish to them again after the way that they did me and I will limit my shopping there a lot more than before. Very poor customer service on their part. If you want any baby African cichlids, my number is 540-988-6243 and I will sell them to you for a hell of a lot cheaper than this place will sell them for. I live near Roanoke. The store is very clean, organized, always fully stocked, has everything you could possibly want for any kind of pet you have. I went in today and purchased a few things for my new Budgetts frog enclosure. I purchased some Seachem fluorite sand along with quite a few other items. After I left the pet store, I went to the grocery store and then home. After unloading everything I started to set up my new frogs enclosure and realized I didn't have the seachem sand. I checked my receipt and seen I had paid for it. So I called store to see if maybe I accidentally left it on the counter or maybe in the cart. Cashier hadn't seen it but, assured me she would check into it and call me back. Less then 10 minutes later a gentleman returned my call, I assume he was the manger and said he checked security tape and I had in fact loaded it into my cart. I asked if he could please check the parking area and make sure it wasn't Still in the cart. He found nothing during his search. I thanked him and then called my daughter to stop by and buy me another bag, because I still had all the aquatic plants I just bought from pet store. When she got there they had the exact kind I needed, had it waiting for her and on top of all that they gave me a $5.00. Discount because of my troubles!!! She was shocked and I was too when she called and told me. So I just wanted to send a big "THANK YOU PET AND AQUATIC WAREHOUSE"!!!! They have a HUGE selection of fish and they always have different sales. If you are patient enough you probably can get a fish at a cheaper price than what is on the sticker. Customer service can be a roller coaster, which I enjoy in amusement parks but not so much in the pet store. OH MY GOSH. First off, this place is HUGE. It looks small from the outside and then you go in and it's gigantic. Upstairs, they have a wall of puppies. Plus bunnies, hedgehogs, ferrets, hamsters, etc. And then you go around back and there's a reptile room. Then you go out the back door and they have a pond set up with koi fish and live aquatic plants. Then you go downstairs and it's literally wall to wall, rows and rows of fish tanks. So many different options of fish and aquarium friends. So many different options of reptiles and terrarium friends. So many furry animals. They even have hypoallergenic puppies. And there's tons of supplies for all types of animals. And everything is priced cheaper than Petsmart. The staff is amazing as well. They were all so helpful and SO knowledgeable. One of them helped me pick out the perfect plants for my frogs, and gave me some amazing ideas for a terrarium I'm building. Another one got some of the reptiles out for me to hold. It's like going to a zoo, I swear. I loved it. I accidentally spent 3 hours in there. Definitely one of the coolest places in Lynchburg. read more

Asked the worker John to see a puppy today and after two minutes holding the puppy he rudely said "i need to put him back" and took the puppy back. When someone else also looking at dogs in my group asked to see another puppy he said no so after seeing another group look at two puppies we asked that worker. As he was walking out the door with the puppy, John made him put the puppy back and didn't come out to talk to us; in fact he walked around the other side of the store to avoid us. I purchased a puppy from here about a two years ago but I no longer think this place will have my business I was honestly disgusted in the way we were treated. read more

Great stuff. Always helpful staff and very knowledgeable. Place is crowded but clean. Plenty of selection when it comes to aquaria, terrarium and accessories. They carry a good amount to of corals and fish from the easy to expert only. Reptiles are all healthy and have great setups. The pond section is also very useful. A fair selection of koi, comets, and cat fish for out door ponds. Never had any problems with any animals I've gotten here. I invested a lot of money in to this place and plan on spending more. Keep up the great work PAWS. Also one of the few places in Virginia that carries exotic freshwater fish. read more

I am appalled at the treatment of your hedgehogs. I'm a hedgehog owner and lover, I've done extensive research in regards to raising and keeping hedgehogs healthy and happy in a domesticated setting and you are not doing what you need to be to care for them even at a healthy minimum. You have them on pine, which is unhealthy for their respiratory system and their skin. Selling hedgehogs with mites and leaving them untreated is unethical and bad business. Not having a wheel for them to exercise on and let go of some energy is just plain wrong as well-- they need to have a way to exert their energy and get proper amounts of exercise. And NOT a wire or mesh wheel, but the proper kind, like a carolina storm wheel at the right diameter. Lastly, housing siblings who are of opposite sexes is not okay either -- it is very unhealthy for the female because it messes with her hormones and her reproductive system and they will try to breed regardless of the fact that they are siblings, leading to typically unhealthy baby hogs and a lack of the right accommodations or housing for breeding in the first place. PLEASE change your ways and take my and similar reviews seriously so that you can improve the lives of your animals and improve the quality and lifespan of the pets that you sell. Also it will improve your customer base and their reviews too. All in all it's better business. read more

I used to think Roanoke had good fish stores before they closed down(Pet City + Pet Land) but this place rocks. Lots of hard to find fish that are cycled through(Umbee, Flowerhorn, Dovii, Jaguars, etc) - and an awesome selection of plants. I forget the managers name downstairs(where the fish are) but you got the image that he was very intelligent regarding aquariums. I stocked up on food, plants and grabbed a Texas Cichlid for about $20. I can't speak for upstairs - but this place rocks as far as fish stores go. read more

I bought two $9 fish that died within the warranty period on the receipt. When I took them back to get a refund my water tested JUST outside perfect parameters, and the refund was denied. I was disappointed but understood. Later that day Billy (an employee in the aquarium dept) emailed me to let me know they would go ahead and issue me the credit since they had noticed issues with those same type of fish in their own stock that same day! Honestly, this establishment does not even deserve a rating of a one star but you cannot rate less then that! As a professional in Lynchburg, Va im not quite sure how they are still in business. The managers are incompetient and cannot get back to you when you call them about complaints. I bought a cat from there who died a week later due to distemper. The kitten, which I named Lyle, was is said to have been "only cat in the cage," according to management. When I bought my baby Lyle he was one of several other litter mates that were in the crate, which leads me to believe that they may have suffered the same fate. Going into the pet store, I thought I was relying on a socially responsible pet store but that was complely false!!!! After that experience I visited the Lynchburg Humane Society to gain another furr friend. Whatever you do, please do not visit this pet store in Lynchburg, va! I love the store and most of the staff. I have never had an issue until latley. Most of the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable with exception to the so called manager Tammy and the associate Tyler. My sister and I spent a few hours looking at the snakes and had a wonderful experience with Sierra and Evan. It was near closing time (5:30)when we approached the counter and the young lady was too busy talking to Sierra than to acknowledge me. That was strike one. 20 minutes later, still have not gotten my crickets. Sierra asked Tammy where they were and she snapped on her. I did speak up and state that I had purchased them before closing. She replied, hiding behind the counter in a extremely rude tone, that were coming I just had to wait. 10 minutes later, Tyler, who the entire time we were in the reptile room, would come come and give all the customers and associates nasty looks,came up with the crickets threw the bag on the counter and gave me a nasty look. Granted, was rude when I spoke to him, but I was just so disgusted with their attitudes. I asked if he could had me the bag and not be smarta**.
