I bought two boxes of heart guard for my dogs for over $200.00. I got home and noticed that the box color was not the same as the manufacture along with other things that the website says that it maybe fraud. I called to come in and return and was told they will not refund an unopened box with a receipt within one week. He said look at the bottom of the receipt. I did. THIS IS A PRACTICE USED WHEN THE ESTABLISHMENT KNOWS THEY HAVE MALPRACTICE. BBBBBEEEEE WWWWWAAAAARRRRNNNEEEDDD!!!! Hello pet parents. I hate to write a negative review of a local business but I have to warn you about the experience I just had. When feeding my dog this evening, I noticed that the bag of food I had just bought last week (and had only used once, for her morning meal) had some holes in it. At first I thought I might have caused them (new mouse?), but then I noticed that they had been taped over with clear tape. So of course I brought the bag back to the store. Initially, the guy at the counter (owner's son) denied that they sold that kind of food and said I must have bought it at another store. He said though as a courtesy I could have a new bag. Weird that he tried to imply I was trying to scam him or something but okay, fine. I took the new bag and walked it two blocks home. As I went to open it to feed my dog, I noticed it had a hole too!!! Also taped over. Well this time he would have to admit I had gotten it there, because it had only been five minutes, so I rushed back over. He practically threw me out of the store. Said it was a different bag, the one he had given me was fine, that I must have gotten it at another store (in the past 5 minutes?! How/why would anyone do that?!) He refused to take it back. After arguing with him for a few minutes I seem to have convinced him that his position was ridiculous and nonsensical and eventually he gave me another bag. This one I inspected thoroughly ... and it does not appear to have any holes in it. So anyway, obviously not going back there, and I'd recommend if you do choose to shop there that you thoroughly inspect anything you buy before leaving the store. We went here because they had a travel pet carrier in stock from the brand Sherpa. Once we got there we found out the price was $150 for the carrier. We purchased it because we were traveling the next day and needed a carrier. Once we got home, we found the carrier was too large for our dog and called to ASK if they accept refunds. He said they do not since we had put our dog in it to test the size. We say okay and hang up. After hanging up, I see that $116 is written on the box, not $150. I call back to ask why he overcharged me. The owner starts to get irate and cuts me off telling me his son wrote the wrong price but it's actually $150. This item sells for $90 at the highest anywhere online. He's clearly making up prices and now when I am forced to resell this item, I'll get nowhere near what I paid. This place has terrible customer service and I don't feel he heard me at all. I will not be back. read more

My owner and I stop in here about twice a week, and EVERY TIME, I can't help myself.... I get so so excited I can't contain it. My butt starts wagging (no tail, must compensate by shaking my whole butt), and I go nuts when I see Sam. EVERY time he calls me sweetie and gives me a few treats. And if that wasn't good enough, he always gives my owner a "treat for the road" and tells me to come in anytime no matter what. So, I do. This store is very popular with dogs, naturally. Whenever we're passing here--or even remotely close--Olive likes to drag me over here. This appears to be a single-proprietor shop; sometimes there's a "Back at 2 PM" sign on the door, and the owner has probably gone to get lunch or do errands. The shelves are kind of disorganized--cans of cat food next to dog food--but not impossible to navigate if you know what you want. The prices are decent--I guess I think so because I live in Manhattan--the owner is friendly and when I'm walking Olive, it's hard to avoid stopping here if we're in a 1-block radius. read more

Sammy is friendly and flirty, and he does have an excellent memory. He also stocks an amazying array of pet products into such a tiny space. His prices are not great, however. The upside is you feel all local and neighbor-y shopping here. And I believe he is open until 8-9ish on week nights, which is great for getting home and having an "Oh Sh**! Forgot about the dog food!" moment. I always feel better giving Gats the nice Nutra or Wellness kibble, as opposed to bodega canned dog food options (though he probably likes Alpo like I love McDs). read more

Sam, the owner, knows everyone who comes into the store and makes a point to build a relationship with pet owners and pet's alike! He is very sweet and appears to know a lot about pets. I'm not sure I'm a fan of Pet Emporium. Don't get me wrong, this spot carries some quality brands and the owner is very kind. But the place itself is a bit dark and cluttered. The prices are also pretty steep for pet toys. I think I'll come back if I'm in a pinch to treat my puppy, but it's not my favorite pet supply store. read more

Disclaimer: I am writing this review reeling from sticker shock. Came in here to buy Pawz booties for my dog and the owner, a very nice guy, rang them up as $30. Online prices for them are between $13 - $19. Now, when shopping at a local store, I understand that I will (most likely) pay more than what I'd pay at Amazon or at any major pet store, but $17 more? Methinks not. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I had been so thoroughly gouged. I also got the sense, as another reviewer mentioned, that the owner made up the price from thin air after seeing that I was not a regular customer. I go here for a few reasons. Sammy (the owner) is great and really does treat the pet owners well. He remembers exactly what products your pet likes and has a lot in stock for such a small store. After one visit he greeted my pet by first name. And if he doesn't have it in stock then he'll get in in for you in his next delivery which is on Wednesday. Unfortunately, Pet Emporium is a bit overpriced and you can do better in Petco but who really wants to frequent the Walmart of pet supplies? I took away a star b/c Sammy tends to flirt too much but other than that I go back again and again. Convenience and friendliness goes a long way. Cash only. read more

My dog, a Welsh Corgi, and myself love this place. The owner Sammy is very friendly, and always remembers what type of food my dog gets. I don't know what some of the other reviews were talking about with high prices. The Wellness brand of food I get is only $1 more expensive than Amazon, and a full $2 less than it was when I lived back in Manhattan. And Sammy compensates more than enough by giving my dog plenty of treats while we wait at the register (they take credit cards now). Now whenever I take him for a walk by the store, or get breakfast at Connecticut Muffin, he is always pulling trying to go back to Pet Emporium for a treat. read more

Great neighborhood pet emporium. Owner knows everyone and every dog. Dogs will get too many treats when they come with you and they will not complain at all. The products are jammed in there, but if you need anything you can just ask for it and he will go get it and in one second he will return from a back corner or the small loft with what you requested. They will deliver the big bags of food right away. The prices are fine considering it is a small neighborhood shop. I would much rather go here and get what I want in one second than go to some PetSmart and look around for ten minutes and wait at the register for ten more. If you want the neighborhood feel and for someone to know what you like for you pet, come here. read more

I (and my dog) love going to Sammy's. He's super friendly and helpful. While the store is small and packed with stuff, he can find anything you're looking for. He always remembers what food we buy and carries the large bag down the stairs to us. He's even offered to drive it to my apartment on his way home so I don't have to carry it. I went in today and bought 3 chewy treats for my dog for $21. The treats themselves did not have price tags on them so I could not contest the prices, but talk about expensive! There is no way these treats should have costed anywhere near $7 each. To be honest, the guy at the register seemed to just sort of pull the prices out of thin air after giving me the up-and-down. While he was friendly and did give my dog a cookie, to me that does not make up for the rip-off experience. I will not be going back for this reason. read more

First it was out of convenience, it's just a few blocks away, and now because I'm a part of the neighborhood, the service, and the ease of shopping there.
