I have only had one experience with Pet ER of Columbia. That experience was under the most difficult of conditions. By the time we arrived at Pet ER, there was nothing they could do to save our precious Mickey. Indeed, he passed somewhere during our frantic drive, between our house and their facility. The care and compassion that shown to us by the Pet ER of Columbia staff in immediately bringing us to an examination room and verifying that he was beyond saving was the best care one could ask for. Above that, the staff's offer to allow us time to say goodbye to our beloved family member, in our shock and grief, despite a busy waiting room filled with other customers was as much medicine for my wife and I in our shock and grief, as any pills. The Pet ER of Columbia staff displayed tremendous care and understanding in advising us regarding Mickey's final arrangements and then later when we collected his ashes. Already impressed by their professionalism and care, we were surprised and touched when unexpectedly, two weeks after Mickey's passing, we received a condolence card in the mail, hand signed by each of their staff. We did not get the opportunity to experience Pet ER of Columbia's veterinary services. If the compassionate, consideration for us as owners is any indication of the care they show for our furry family members, then I have no doubt that this review would be a glowing endorsement. What I can say, is that their staff provided the best, and most compassionate care to grieving pet owners that I have ever received. For that, I recommend them. The staff and communications were 5 stars plus. The only cons were high price and lack of a vet present 24/7. Vet techs (really good ones) were present overnight and a vet was on call from midnight until opening, but it would be more reassuring to have a vet there at night as well -- especially at the high price point. We brought our cat here for a urinary blockage. Triage was great, and he was seen promptly. The vet who examined him explained the need to keep him for 48-hours for treatment. During that time, they were always ready to speak with us on the phone for updates, and called us 2x daily with updates. He's home and healed, so that's worth a few stars! read more

My 9-year-old whippet who was a very healthy and happy boy, became very ill on a Sunday night, showing lethargy, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, shivering, decreased alertness, confusion, fever, protein found in his urine, and low platelets when we arrived at the ER. He had a history of mild heart disease and a murmur which had been evaluated 8months prior and was not concerning. Upon arrival, I informed Dr. Miller about his dumpy condition his health status. I told her that I suspected an infection. She insisted it was congestive heart failure or endocarditis urging us to leave him overnight for tests. Her bedside manner was pushy, we couldn't even get a word in and she didn't listen to our concerns. The next day, we faced a $4,800 bill with unchanged cardiac results and no answers why our dog was sick. They couldn't schedule an abdominal ultrasound without another overnight stay, and the vet on-call was rude. Our dog was prescribed antibiotics for endocarditis, even though the cardiologist at their facility indicated his symptoms were not heart-related at all. I expressed concerns about a possible infection many times, but no pathogen screening options were ever provided. The vet suggested switching antibiotics but ultimately left him on the same one to treat endocarditis. When we picked him up, he was not in good condition even though they stated on his discharge that he perked back up. He was stumbling, could hardly walk and appeared very sick and confused. We were reassured by the vet tech he was fine and that painkillers had been administered. We were told the antibiotics would treat any infection and to follow up with our Primary Car vet in 48-72 hours. We spent the next few days believing our dog was being treated properly, but by Friday when I could finally be seen by my primary care vet, he was critically ill with stage 5 kidney failure. We had to euthanize him after being in intensive care for a week at another ER (which costs us $12,000). He was diagnosed with acute kidney injury, elevated liver enzymes, and very high probability of leptospirosis. Several doctors at this ER are known experts in Leptospirosis and told us he was a textbook case. Our dog suffered a horrible and premature death spanning over two weeks due to inadequate care at Pet+ER. The vet tech told us information that wasn't accurate upon discharge. After discharge, we had to return because they left stitches in the side of his face. Our dogs' medical records were never discussed or sent to us. No one from Pet+ER followed up with us to see how our dog was doing the next day or to have any other discussions. They never diagnosed his condition but prescribed medication for endocarditis and never figured out why he was sick. They dumped the responsibility on my primary care vet. Our primary care suspected Lepto or addisions immediately before even running labs. We were given false information and inadequate care by Pet+ER throughout the whole process. Pet+ER should be ashamed of the service they provided and the suffering our animal had to endure. I will be taking my case to the state veterinary board and also seeking legal advice. Very weird practices for a Pet ER. My dog was recommended to an ER due to trauma to the eye. I called Pet+ ER immediately and was told my dog's trauma was not an emergency. We visited a different ER in Ellicott City and were told had we not come in, his eyeball was on the verge of rupturing. He was on meds every 2 hours and was then referred to an ophthalmologist for follow up. How is that not an emergency to the Pet+ER!? Hard pass. read more

I have 2 experiences with this ER. First happened about 2 years ago when they were able to help with a dog we were dogsitting. It was timely care and compassionately handled and they were great. It was at 1am too. Recently however their pet queue system and staff failed us. I understand they may be understaffed. But when I am telling you the dog we just adopted is having bloody BM and threw up and we have been on the queue for 8 hours, when bringing in said dog your instinct should be doing a fecal matter test but more importantly maybe actually review the medical shelter paperwork that my bf brought in... where it clearly stated her last fecal work at the shelter showed she tested hookworms positive. We aren't doctors or vets but I would think had they seen that it would have helped. They sent her home with probiotics and a bland diet. My poor senior girl suffered for 5 more days till we took her to another urgent care (mind you they were also understaffed and overworked) and they instantly saw the paperwork from her shelter, did a fecal test and gave us medication and antibiotics. That resolved the issue. So yeah one great experience and one terrible one which cost us a fair bit of money. My pup came in after a regular walk and couldn't open her right eye. Of course it was a Saturday evening when the vet was closed until Monday morning. After almost an hour of trying not to overreact, I called the Towson ER and was told they were not taking any more appointments. Same with Hunt Valley. I got on the Bel Air ER waitlist and had 19 people ahead of me and told it could be several hours before I was contacted to bring her in. Found the Columbia Pet ER and called to ask if they would take her. The woman I talked to was sooo nice and helpful, unlike when I called the Bel Air ER and was rushed off the phone and hung up on. We drove 35 minutes to the Columbia location and followed the directions to text to check in. We did wait in the car about an hour and 10 minutes before getting a text to bring her inside. The triage did not take long and they even sent me and my daughter up in an empty exam room to hang out. Fortunately I brought a book and we both had our tablets to watch tv. 2 and a half hours later and we had a scratched cornea diagnosis, medication and a cone of shame. The cost for everything was actually a lot less than I anticipated and having pet insurance will get me about 50% back. The fact that we got in, seen and out in the time before I was even contacted back from Bel Air goes to show how great this pet hospital is. read more

If I could give it no stars, I would! Don't take your pet here for a real emergency! Our Pomeranian had a nasty cough and was.making a gagging sound. We are new dog owners and probably way to cautious, but she appeared to be getting worse. We took her, here and after an x-ray, we were told she swallowed something and that she would eventually pass whatever it was out of her system and the cough would stop. We still didn't know what she swallowed, but happy to learn that was working it's way out of our pups system. We took her home, and after a few more days, it was getting worse, and something didn't seem right; we took her to a vet, and they informed us our puppy had canine infectious respiratory disease a.k.a (kennel cough!)! Really! Pet+ER, you don't know what a kennel cough sounds like!! They had no issues charging us a $500.00 fee for a bogus diagnosis! Had they been competent, we could have had it diagnosed and treated earlier. Even though dogs typically recover from kennel cough within a few weeks. The secondary infections could lead to complications that could do more harm than the disease itself!!! They only cared about the $500 not diagnosing our puppy correctly!!! if you're running a pet ER; I'm CONVINCED you should know a kennel cough when you hear it!! If not, you should not be opened! They will RIP YOU OFF I took my dog here for vomiting and diarrhea. They tried to keep my dog overnight and when I declined they made it seem like since I wouldn't do that, I wasn't being a good owner and that all of the other recommendations were required care. They told me the medications were required too. Then someone calls me and ask for my card number without giving me a balance. When I asked what I was being charged they said it was over $600. I was in shock. They told me it was all due at the time prior to them giving me back my dog. Once home I called to ask to make a return of a non-prescription item and they put me on hold and left me on hold for 20 minutes until I eventually hung up. BEWARE they will rip you off. read more

We've only been to this location once which was back in August 2021. Our dog was sick and vomited multiple times on a Friday night. We consulted our regular vet the following morning and brought our golden in shortly thereafter. The service was a bit slow but beyond that we had an exceptional experience here. The staff was friendly and Dr. Tag exceeded our expectations. TIPS: - If possible call your pet's regular vet office before coming here and have them email over any necessary information. Make sure to verify that your pet is in critical enough condition to be seen here ahead of time. It will speed up the check-in process. - Bring water and whatever your pet may need to keep comfortable in the parking lot as you await the text instructing you to come inside. - Due to COVID you have to check your pet in/fill out a form/register etc. on your phone from your car upon arrival. Sure this is understandable but can feel ridiculously long when your pet is in pain. Have someone drive there with you so you can check in and fill out this form and stuff while en route. Call the front desk and have them text you the link. This will save A LOT of time before you get there. - As the name implies, they're very much an animal ER. If your pet isn't in a dire situation note that you and your pet might experience a delay as they triage true emergency patients on a priority basis. This isn't a location that deals with emergency cases AND long term care following treatment like the VCA locations in the DC Metro area. They're about the emergencies so keep that in mind. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE AND EXPECT TO HAVE TIMELY, HUMANE SERVICE IF YOUR PET ISN'T DEEMED SICK ENOUGH TO BE TREATED. This is my second time visiting this clinic. First experience was good except for the fact they wanted to charge me over $1K when it ended up only being $200 of medically necessary care. This time around has been a nightmare. Checked in around 5pm yesterday on 6/25/23 only to be told to wait at home until I'm called. There were 14 pets in the queue. Almost 24 hours later, my dog is getting progressively worse, and I still can't get him seen. The tech on the phone (Miranda) was sugary, sweet on the phone but obviously thought it was funny when she told me I could come back to the office (and camp out indefinitely - my words). When I complained of how inhumane this "queue process" was and that I will go elsewhere for better customer focused treatment, she said in her overly cheerful tone, "Okay, I will take you off the list" and hung up abruptly. My pup wasn't feeling well, she had been throwing up and hadn't eaten in 2 days. I proceeded to make an appointment which was easy, got a call to make my way up to the establishment, and was directed into the waiting room. Me and my dog, for 3 hours, sat in the waiting room without any real help. She's still sick and I'm looking to take her to another vet. I told them I needed to leave for work because I didn't expect to be here for 3 hour's or more. They ended up prescribing her an antibiotic off an assumption, which of course didn't help. This has got to be some of the WORSE service I've ever received. Would not recommend, don't waste your time. They seem to prioritize existing costumers, which is unfair and rude. Ever single persons pet deserves the amount of care and love, not just the few you find cute. after reading a couple reviews, I'm not the only one whose encountered this issue. worst pet ER in the state of Maryland. read more

Super thorough, compassionate, and took care of my pup when she needed to visit due to an emergency.

We've taken Thunder and Moonshine to this location. It's a lot closer than their "sister" facility (AAVEC) in Annapolis to us. Both of our dogs have come in both for ER and for specialists. Our last visit (during COVID shut-down) was for our boy Thunder. He had uncontrolled bleeding from an injury at midnight, and he was triaged right in and stabilized. Our then puppy Moonshine, was also an overnight patient when she was having GI tract problems after having a parasitic infestation (worms). She received excellent care and attention. She wanted to stay! Follow-ups with her specialist were enjoyable because she loved coming it. read more

I had to euthanize my cat. They were quite busy but they were patient and caring with me and my kitty. Very impressive.

STAY AWAY!! I have worked in the veterinary industry for 15 years and never dealt with such incompetence. TL; DR: I paid $2000+ for Columbia Pet ER to NOT do the two things I brought my cat there for. I made it very clear to the doctors and staff that my cat was at this ER to A) Have his abdominal fluid tapped so he could be more comfortable, and be observed overnight for this; and B) Consult with an oncologist in the morning re: his ultrasound because his primary vet believed he had cancer. I tried to get him into AVIM oncology but they were booked for over a month, so they suggested I go through the Pet ER (which shares a facility with AVIM). This route obviously costs a LOT more money but I was desperate to get my cat seen as soon as possible. Since it is an ER, I expected a wait but we established early on that my cat was staying the night for observation post-fluid tap; so I did not understand why after 2 hours of waiting in the car and hearing absolutely NOTHING, I was told that I could not leave. After 3 hours, they finally said my cat had not yet been seen by a doctor, but still refused to let me leave for some unknown reason. After 3.5 hours, I was finally given permission to go home, though literally nothing had changed. Later that night, I spoke to Dr. Perez who said she would tap 1/3 of the abdominal fluid and next day the radiologist would get an ultrasound needle aspirate of the suspect lesions which would be sent to the vet lab where I work. I reiterated to her how I wanted him to get an internal consult with the oncologist, too. I felt like we were on the same page and he was in good hands - until the next day.... Next day, Friday, I spoke with Dr. D'Aurora. She had taken a sample of his abdominal fluid and asked if was already analyzed elsewhere. His fluid analysis was actually done 3 days prior by his regular vet and the cytology report was right there in his records. Clearly, she hadn't even looked at it! This was very unsettling. As for the fluid tap? It was never done. She tried to excuse it by saying "if his protein is low..." but Dr. Perez looked at his protein levels on the phone with me and said it was safe to remove 1/3 of fluid. D'Aurora could not explain why it wasn't done; she just asked if I wanted them to do it now. I said, no, the whole point of the overnight drop-off was so he could be observed for hours after just in case he bottomed out! Finally, I asked her about oncology to which D'Aurora first tried to tell me something to the effect of "we don't do that", then kinda stalled and eventually informed me that the specialists do not work on Fridays. I was FURIOUS. Why did NOBODY tell me this fact the many times I said I specifically brought him there for this? All she could say to me was "It's unfortunate when someone else makes false promises" and I'm thinking: YOUR people said this was the fastest way and I literally told Dr. Perez, the triage tech, and front desk staff! What a complete waste of time and money. I came to pick up my cat, who they claimed was eating great and ready to leave. I was repeatedly put on hold and hung up on by the staff. After leaving, I called to ask for the itemized invoice, and it took me calling and asking THREE TIMES to finally get the right thing. And the girl was rude with me when I called back, as if I'm the jerk when she did not do it right the first two times. Once home, my cat was worse and would not eat anything despite the ER claiming he was eating great. His abdomen was still distended and painful from never getting the fluid tapped. I considered taking him to a second ER elsewhere except I could not afford to drop another couple thousand dollars. That night at the lab, his sample never came. It did not show up that Saturday night either. After many frantic calls to the ER, I found out why: it went to a different lab, despite them having repeatedly told me they would be sending it to the lab where I work. They also confirmed the sample wasn't sent out until Saturday, despite it being done Friday afternoon. If the sample had come to my lab when it was supposed to, I could have had results much sooner. $2000+ later, my cat was still full of fluid, in pain, and not eating. No oncologist, no diagnosis, no pain meds. His cytology results came back Sunday but it was too late. He was declining such that I was forced to have him euthanized. I know his ultimate fate was not likely to have changed but I still deeply regret taking him to the Columbia Pet ER and causing him such stress for absolutely nothing. I understand the pandemic re-opening is putting a lot of stress on vet hospitals, especially ERs but I cannot forgive the constant incompetence at every turn and the complete absence of communication between shifts and staff, especially when it loses precious time and risks my animal's life. PS: I e-mailed them my complaints directly and got nothing but a "sorry" and another copy of the invoice. read more

My dog had a weird skin flare up. At first, I didn't realize what was going on and was extremely concerned. Our regular vet as well as others in the area are severely backed up and they recommended that I try to seek urgent care at an emergency facility. They made 2 recommendations close to me. I made a few phone calls and Pet ER explained their process to me. I was willing to take the gamble of waiting, even though I was likely to be turned away just on the off chance that they could at least triage and give some guidance on what type of self care I could give him. I had a bit of a hiccup checking in and called again but luckily did not fall behind in line. Yes, I did wait quite a bit but it was a beautiful day and we had a nice walk outside and time to reflect and try to calm the nerves. Rachel came out for my dog and brought him inside. When she came back out, it didn't seem she was able to locate the spots so I showed her in the parking lot. She listened to my concerns and gave me a few tips to treat the area on my own and confirmed that I should be okay to wait a few weeks for an appointment with our regular vet. I wasn't charged any thing and the peace of mind I had at that moment was simply priceless. We brought our cat in for a urinary obstruction. He was in bad condition when we brought him in. All of the staff - from the front desk CSRs to the techs to the amazing ER vets - were super helpful and accommodating to our needs. They listened to all of our questions and concerns, took the time to sit down with us and address all of it, and even called afterwards to follow up. Our cat needed to be hospitalized but my parents wanted to come stop by each day and visit - they allowed us to come to the back and even coordinated a private visit in one of the exam rooms. Yes, it is pricey and expensive but expect to pay up for quality care. Don't go cheap and end up getting crappy results. This is a huge facility with the resources necessary to take excellent care of your pet. I fully support this team :) read more

Brought in my dog for a possible case of bloat in the middle of the night. We were both tired and stressed, and she was (loudly) barking at every staff member who walked in the room. However, they all handled her beautifully, calmly talking to her and even getting her to wag her tail a few times. The vet took the time to walk through the X-rays with me and talk about next steps (it ended up not being bloat, thank God). Overall, was very pleased with the attentiveness and care they showed my girl - even when she was being super crabby with everyone. As an aside, I'm 8 months pregnant, and while I was checking in, the receptionist offered me a bottle of water. I brought my Pom here almost 2 years ago after he was attacked by a Rottweiler. They were more concerned about getting $3000 than the well being of a poor defenseless Pom. I've got mixed feelings about this place and had differing experiences - some good but mostly bad. Though they can absolutely provide lifesaving care to your pet - some of the vets seem more motivated to recommend more costly care, which can quickly add up. Most recently I took my cat there with lower back and leg pain - they recommended a neurologist consult and MRI that would cost thousands of dollars. I chose to wait and confer with my regular vet - and the doctor kind of made me feel like I didn't care about my pet and couldn't afford the best possible care. This rubbed me the wrong way - so while they're probably your best (and sometimes only) choice for emergency care at odd hours - I've found their ethical practices sometimes questionable. read more

We rushed our dog here thinking he was overheated. He was eventually diagnosed with a very different problem and we had to make the decision to let him go. It was a horrible day, but the staff here was wonderful and compassionate. The doctors clearly explained the status and options at each step. They only ran necessary tests even though we authorized more than they ran. The bill was much less than we expected. I would strongly recommend this practice for emergency services. read more

Pet ER saved my puppy's life, literally. After adopting our puppy from a kill shelter, his behavior and health quickly began to deteriorate. After three tests, they discovered he had Parvo. Although I love our primary vet, they weren't able to get us an appointment for a few weeks after we adopted him. So, without the access to the Pet ER, we would of lost him. They are so kind, great customer service, honest, candid and reliable. In addition, we had upfront conversations regarding finances regularly to help level-set expectations. My 7 year-old golden retriever became sick over a weekend in October. At first she stopped eating and then stopped drinking and became lethargic. I brought her to Pet ER on a Sunday and was thrilled with the services and communication received. Dr. Lauterstein and the other staff I interacted with were caring and informative. They presented different care options and costs and kept me informed on progress. After spending overnight in Columbia they had me take her to Towson for dental services under anesthesia and they were equally wonderful. Hope I don't need their services again anytime soon but it's great to know that they are there! read more

This place employs some of the BEST nurses, vet techs, and doctors in veterinary medicine. They have answered every single medical question I could come up with, allowed me to visit my dog anytime I need comfort, and literally provided the most exceptional care since the moment my dog arrived. My poor dog was very sick and weak and what felt like it may be the end, that is until the prompt team at Pet+ER Columbia triaged her and immediately started running a variety of tests and providing urgent supportive care. The doctors are so through in their efforts to reach a diagnosis in a timely manner and just incredibly knowledgeable, true health heroes. The nurses are like angels on earth and treat the sickest of animals like their own pets. The front end staff quickly and consistently answers the phone so that you can get health status updates throughout the day/night. You never have to worry if your pet ends up here (hopefully not) because they are truly in the best hands possible! I wish I could do more to thank them for taking such amazing care of my girl even though in the end she crossed the rainbow bridge into doggy heaven. We have taken both our dogs here for serious issues. One was our puppy who ingested a large amount of grapes and the second was for our diabetic dog who had a seizure due to low blood sugar. Both needed at least one night in their ICU. The vets here are extremely knowledgeable and communicate often throughout the day and night to update you on the condition of your pet. They go over the full plan of care including the estimated cost, and will give lower cost alternatives in case you can't afford thousands of dollars of care (we are fortunate to have pet insurance so we go with their recommendations). The vet techs are amazing and are basically animal nurses. We are so blessed to have this place right down the road from our house. read more

Obviously there are only a few Pet ERs in the area, but they seem knowledgeable and knew how to handle my pets specialized issues. I do appreciate that they took my pet immediately when he was having trouble breathing. They were able to stabilize him and they give as much information as possible to my primary vet. They did give me the wrong medication one time, so just make sure to double check the medication like pill type, seal, patient info etc. I know this was in the middle of the night and they were probably exhausted, so just be aware of what they are giving your pet. They also called me to verify treatment and price of that treatment, which I greatly appreciated. read more

Very angry. Was told to bring a pet that could be seen that we were 4th in line. Filled out paperwork and sat for an hour. Finally texted to bring my pet in and once her vitals were taken we were told she wasn't critical enough to be seen. She has a UTI with blood in her urine and is constantly urinating. I was 3rd in line for another emergency vet and canceled that appointment sine I was going to be seen here. Now I have to get back in line at this other vet and am number 31! I am so angry and my poor pet has to suffer! Never will I use this place. read more

I recently had to bring my sweet girl Pearl in after an exam at a local vet discovered a 5cm abdominal mass. We had planned surgery for less than 36 hours after we initially discovered it (despite a perfect bill of health on a wellness exam back in June), but she declined rapidly overnight and I brought her to Pet+ER. The vet was phenomenal - I wish I had noted her name, but I was a complete wreck. As a nurse, I understand the language - but for humans, NOT cats. The technician who saw me in the beginning was a little brusque for my taste - I'm going to chalk it up to her being on a night shift and me coming in crying at 5:30 am with a cat who, despite the mass, didn't behave like she was sick at all. But the front desk staff was wonderful, and the vet who was with us throughout the entire process was amazing. She allowed me to view the bedside ultrasound, went over the labs she ordered with me, and with the information determined the mass was not only bleeding, but compressing the surrounding organs - as well as having likely metastasized to her liver. She assured me she wasn't in pain, but we ultimately decided it wouldn't be long before she was, and I had to say goodbye. It was a horrible ending to an awful 16 hour stretch, but the vet at Pet+ER made me feel not only like I made the right choice, but comforted throughout the process. It's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, and I've had to do it several times these last few years, with 3 cats who developed chronic illness. It's heartbreaking, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But having providers who make the process a little less painful certainly helps. I hope you never have to bring your babies here, but if you do, there's at least one vet (and also, a radiologist who confirmed the findings that helped to make the decision) at Pet+ER who has my vote. read more

I cannot suggest Pet+ER more. TLDR: The staff was so kind I was actually in tears, and they kept us in constant contact and made sure we understood what was going on. Their compassion during this terrible time is appreciated more than they will know. We took our dog to Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital after the typical signs: lethargy, not eating, tough breathing. They took our dog in and said he'd be back in half an hour. We keep calling and getting no response. Four hours pass, and we finally get someone to pick up. They say there are two dogs ahead of him...which is what they had told us four hours ago. Luckily, we pull him out and take him to Vet+ER. We pull up to Vet+ER, they take him in, and they do his vitals right away. Within five minutes of pulling up, we get a call from an amazing Dr. Kim that our dog's heartbeat is muffled. Dr. Kim explained what he thought was going on and that he'd investigate and get back to me. Dr. Kim kept us informed the whole time and made sure we understood the medical terms he was going over. Over the next two days, the staff was extremely responsive and very kind. Every time I called, they knew right away what was going on with our dog: "Oh, Max, yeah, he's finally eating so we're happy!" Or "yes, I just took him out. He was loving the little walk." The staff explained the procedures, the costs, the expectant results, etc. When time came to check out, a staff member named Jerry walked us through everything again (procedure, costs). He was so incredibly sweet that he actually had me crying. He knew we didn't get good news while there and was so extremely compassionate about it all. I am forever grateful for Pet+ER and how they handled our pet and our expectations during this really tough time. I hope to never see them again (haha!) but definitely suggest them during this difficult or scary time. read more

This facility and all the staff, from Dr. Hopkins and Dr. Kim through the techs (especially Jerry) and all the front desk and phone response people are wonderful. So patient, caring, understanding and supportive. I have never had such consistent, pertinent communication from any vet facility (or, really, any medical practice) as we had here. My little cat had suspected lily pollen poisoning . Thankfully, we got Remy Martin to this hospital quickly ( the on-line/phone preliminaries were so helpful. He was there for 48 hours. They let us visit and bring his regular food. I know he was well-taken care of and given a lot of attention. He is home and he is fine. They are the best! read more

We have had four dogs over the past 22 years, and unfortunately there have been instances where after-hours emergency visits or hospital stays have been necessary. Not all have had happy endings, but we've NEVER had an issue with administrative procedures, consultations, level of care, etc. with any emergency clinic until here. I won't go into detail, but this is run as a business first and as a pet hospital a distant second. Nearly every conversation was $$$-centric and definitely not with the pet's well-being, comfort and care in the forefront. Truly use this place only as a last resort. read more

I took my dog here after she had emergency surgery because she needed overnight monitoring and the place that did her surgery didn't offer that care. The surgeon gave me a few recommendations of places to call, but ultimately I choose this location because it's close to my house. I'll start off by saying this emergency vet is very state of art compared to other places I've taken my pets. It's very clean and the staff is extremely friendly. I called ahead of time to see if they had availability and they told me to bring her right in. If you are in a bind, I think this is a good option but be prepared to pay top dollar for your pets visit. I understand that they have a lot of expenses but they are very expensive compared to other emergency vets. I called cats and dogs in Bowie and was quoted half the price that I ended up paying here. I checked my dog in and was called later by Pet ER with a quote and it was extremely high but at this point I didn't want to take my dog who had major surgery to another place because I was worried about something going wrong. When I called I was told when I got there they would give me an estimate but upon arrival they told me they would call me in a few hours. I felt a little trapped at that point because of my dogs current health. I wish that they would've been a little more transparent because I would've taken her elsewhere. read more

We brought our dog in to their care after a sudden and unexpected emergency event and they were nothing but caring and professional in their care of our beloved pet. I posted a review on Pet ER website about a month ago and it is now not there. If they remove the bad experiences, that is why they have a 4.9. My dog could have died. He was misdiagnosed 5 days in a row. I knew something was wrong with him and the doctors at PET ER kept blowing it off. I then went to Rocky Gorge where they immediately new what was wrong with him. They told me my dog was very sick and would be hospitalized for 4 to 8 days. When Rocky Gorge called Pet ER for the records, Pet ER "warned" them that I keep bringing in a healthy dog. Seriously - I drove straight back there and as soon as I arrived the person behind the desk seemed to know why. She said, I suspect you want all of your records, be reimbursed and speak with a manager. I really wanted to speak with a manager. I have stopped by there twice, called, emailed, then wrote a bad review. No one has ever returned my calls. At one of the visits when I asked the Doctor, do you think he is depressed? She told me dogs don't have emotions! He could hardly walk! Thank you Rocky Gorge for saving my dogs life. I don't write bad reviews, but my dog suffered, needlessly for days and if someone was competent at Pet ER, this would have never happened. I don't want this to happen to another animal. Lack of knowledge, care, and no follow up whatsoever. read more

My dog died very unexpectedly here, from a cancer (hermangiosarcoma) we never knew she had at age 7. I brought her in alone, as my husband had our 5year old already in bed, at home, when she showed the first signs of going downhill. She was completely gone 3 hours later. This entire staff was so wonderful to me and my dog, in her final hours, that I'm so grateful we brought her here. I called on my way from another (less helpful) vet hospital and the staff told me to park in the handicapped spaces in front. Two staff members were waiting for me in the parking lot as I raced in, and put my dog on a gurney and raced with her. They were so completely compassionate the entire time. Dr Snyder updated me Co stNtky, through my tears. (It took me a while to understand that she was dying. I thought she was just sick.) Then I was terrified she'd die alone. But the staff didn't let that happen and I got to hold her as she died- a gift for both of us- for which I will always be grateful. Thank you so much for not letting her die without me holding her and saying goodbye. Everyone here was so completely caring, compassionate and wonderful. I have nothing but gratitude. read more
