Been waiting outside with my injured dog who got bit and has a gash that needs stitches. Bleeding in my car but not terribly. Got here at 1:30PM and then they took her vitals at 2PM and brought her back to my car. Heard nothing until I asked almost 3 hours later and told she was not a priority and she was next. Well that is now over an hour ago and thus far have been here over 5 hours. Dog is tired and hungry and ear still hurting her...Should have just been told upfront and I would have gone somewhere else...very unprofessional and seemed no concern for my injured dog. read more

The only reason I gave a 1 was due to the kind girl at the front who greeted and checked us in/out. I really wish that I had a place to review pet+er on their website. Ironically I don't like to leave reviews very much, but am rather distraught with how my visit went this past Saturday. I have an Olde English bulldog who was having labored breathing. Obviously a concern considered she is a short snout breed. During the initial consultation my dog got excited and jumped up (she may be one of the only dogs on earth who looks forward to the vet). The vet then kneed her to get her down. They then proceed on with the exam and the vet asks the vet tech to hold my dogs mouth closed since she couldn't hear her heart over her heavy breathing. She did this for nearly a minute. Again I'll mention short snout breed not acceptable. At this point I am concerned and not sure my dog is in the best hands. Since I'm worried about her though I feel I have no other choice but to let them examine her further. We finally get called into a room and were simply told it's a mass in her chest. I let out some ungodly sound that I couldn't describe if I tried. She just continued to talk with no compassion or consideration that I needed to digest the words "mass in her chest". Then she begins describing it with words like gnarly, and crazy big, just giant, and even lets out a laugh at one of the descriptions. My boyfriend and I both looked at each other in disbelief. At this point I had heard enough and wanted to leave with my dog. I asked for her to be brought into the room and I was told no several times. I was told that I would upset her more. She is my dog and she should have been brought to me. We made the decision to discharge her which the vet did not agree with. It was very clear that she felt my dog should be put down. We asked if there was anything we could give her if she became distressed again at home while we made decisions, prepared for goodbyes, and spoke with our personal vet. She point blank said no. I am beyond grateful that I went with my gut. Sunday was tough and she was pretty out of it. The drugs they gave her to keep calm were intense for her. I spoke with my vet first thing Sunday morning. She assured me there were medicines to keep her calm and we were able to give them to her. We made an apt for the next day to see my vet. Monday my girl goes to our usual vet. They confirm there is a mass. They also confirm fluid and inflammation. Lola was happy, playing, drinking, eating, gums and tongue were pink and wet, and she was using the bathroom like normal. My vet felt there was no reason to put her down just yet. She was prescribed some medications and has been doing well. I understand this is not a permanent fix but she has so much life left in her. You would have no clue she sick. So we will enjoy her as much as we can until it's really time. I'm horrified at the thought that I was being pushed towards making a rash decision and without even seeing her. I'm also in disbelief that the office didn't reach out to me to check up until Wednesday after 4. Now mind you we went to my vet Monday and by 8 am Tuesday they had already checked on her. I got another call personally from my vet tonight to check and will be following up in three days. Alll I can say is how disappointed I am in this visit. When you have a sick pet you want what's best for them. I don't believe she got that nor did I. The vet lacked compassion and bedside manner. I recently took our cat in for emergency treatment and the doctor and others jumped into action. She was taken directly back and I was brought along and helped to understand every aspect of her condition and care. They waited until my children came and then lovingly and patiently supported us as we put her to rest. I can't given them high enough praise. read more

Pet ER Columbia was the only place that would see us immediately on a busy Saturday evening when our cat took a turn for the worse. They examined him immediately. Sadly he had to be put down, but they were so kind here. read more

My dog jumped out of the car window going around 40 mph. I will say she was taken back into the facility within 10 minutes of my arrival. They got her history 3 different times (once in parking lot, once via phone by the nurse, and once via phone by the vet). All 3 times I explained I wanted her checked because she fell out a vehicle at a high rate of speed and was biting/crying at her butt area. I noted she had abrasions on her vulva and also bloody ears. Three times I noted these things. I waited 3 hours to get a call in which they said "she's fine there's nothing we can do". I pressed about some sort of pain relief cream for her bottom since she's quiet literally yelling. I mean if I had an abrasion on my vulva I'd want medicine so not sure why they thought my dog would be different. They refused. I again asked about her bloody ears and they told me "were an ER we don't treat that". I insisted they check her ears as blood isn't normal. After much prompting they gave me the medicine for her ear. I was not given any written discharge instructions nor was a report faxed to my regular vet. How was anyone to know what treatment my dog got in their facility if we got no charting? I'm unsure if they did xrays or what exams they did on her. 4 days later my dog was still rolling in pain. Her butt still looked raw so we took her to her regular vet. They quickly gave her a shot of pain meds and steroids. They had the compassion for my animal that this ER couldn't seem to muster up. I waited patiently in their parking lot for 4 hours for them to do nothing to my dog. When clearly there was a treatment they could have given her to save her from days of pain. My dog just got home and is resting comfortably for the first time in days. I'm disappointed that this is our local ER. Substandard care. I shouldn't have to direct their exam after a trauma. They should automatically do a head to toe exam. They should have treated her for pain and her bloody ears immediately. read more

Go to Annapolis Emergency Hospital. You'll wait less time and be told the truth about things. I'm fine waiting but it's beyond frustrating when they say "great, it'll be 15-20min max" and somehow becomes over an hour. The one thing I can't stand is not being told the honest truth. If it were to be an hour, so be it, but then say so. Don't tell me 15-20 min and have me leave dinner just to come and wait another hour in the parking lot. read more

I called Pet+ER because I had to have our cat, Katie, put down. I told them when I was going to bring her in. When my daughter and I got there with Katie, they were waiting for us. They took Katie and gave her meds to sedate her. Then they wrapped her in a blanket and brought her to us in a private room. They told us to take as much time as we wanted to be with her and say goodbye. We stayed with her while she was put to sleep. After that they helped us pick out a nice urn. It was very comforting that they took so much time with us. They were really concerned about our feelings. I would definitely recommend Pet+ER for any pet health problems. The week following taking Katie there, we got a sympathy card for Pet+ER. 11 members of Pet+ER took the time to write such comforting messages. I was really touched by their care and concern. Also when my daughter picked up Katie's ashes, the urn was so beautifully wrapped. The bag that it came in was velvet. I cannot say enough about how graciously and considerate we were treated. read more

When you're in a crisis and in panic mode that your pet is not acting themselves, this is the place to go, hands down. I noticed my 4 month old kitten was acting strange. I made the decision to take her to an emergency vet. Because I am a new cat mom, I had no idea where to go so I typed into google for an emergency vet near me that was open (7:30am). Many were closed and not 24/7 which doesn't make sense when emergencies happen at all hours but luckily, I came across Pet E.R. I called them instantly and told them my issues and the woman on the phone was calm, kind and proactive. When I got to the hospital I was blown away with how beautiful it was! Clean, modern and professional ascetics; I honestly felt like I was in a fancy doctors office. There were multiple employees at the front desk and greeted me warmly and were quick to help! I waited for quite some time for them to take me and my kitten back to an examination room which would typically make me upset BUT they came up to me multiple times in the lobby to apologize due to some critical patients that unexpectedly came in which was appreciated. Disclaimer: my kitten was alert but was just acting very strange. Not life threatening but still scary! Back the the examination room, the tech apologized for the wait and handled my kitten with so much love. She was concerned about her heart rate and wanted to get the vet to double check her findings which was wonderful. The vet came in quickly and said she recommend X-rays and I agreed. Now, listen to this..... the vet showed me the x rays! Yes, the vet sat down with me and walked me through my kittens X-rays. The vet came up with a treatment plan that made sense and that i felt comfortable with. The vet was kind, informative and compassionate about the issue and took action to resolve it. Though it took some time, I'm beyond grateful for their support and effort in ensuring my little one was ok. Once it was time to take my kitten home a tech came out and walked me through the discharge papers and described how to handle the next few hours; what to look out for, options for a more comfortable environment. This added such a personal touch that was so appreciated. The place was wonderful and I trust them to take the best course of action and I highly recommend them. read more

We called Pet ER in Columbia last Sunday when our lab unexpectedly collapsed. From the phone call to the help getting him into the car, the arrival and treatment, all of the staff on site went above and beyond the call of duty. They treated him, and us, with kindness, compassion, and professionalism. And this was under the constraints of the COVID crisis. They came out to the parking lot to meet with us, quickly assessed the situation, and helped us cope with losing him. They wept with us. Then on Friday we received a sympathy card with personal notes from all of the staff who were there that evening. Thank you Pet+ER. read more

My dog and I did not have a great experience here. I think maybe they seriously understaffed or just unsure of how to effectively run a practice. My sick dog and I spent SIX HOURS here. He was vomiting and had diarrhea and reduced appetite. I got there at 6pm and we were the only ones there. It got busier as the night progressed. I get that animals probably came in that were in worse shape than my dog. But no one updated us or checked on us. We were basically left in an exam room and forgotten. I'm a pretty patient person but by 11pm I grabbed my dog and walked out. I told the receptionist that the doctor could just call me. They told me they just need "five more minutes" to fill my dogs meds. I was like "meds for what!?" The doctor hadn't even come back to tell me the results of the blood tests or the radiographs. After another half hour passed, I said I would wait for the meds but I wasn't paying my bill until I spoke with the vet. She (Dr. D'ambrosia)finally came out, suddenly available and unsure of why I wanted to speak with her. Seriously?! We finally left at midnight. So much for "five more minutes". They waived the $95 exam fee but after all that time and $950 later my dog is still sick. Take your pet to the ER in Annapolis instead. This place isn't ready yet. read more

I woke up on a Saturday morning and immediately knew I had to take my baby in. She was seeing one of the surgeons for a tumor that she had and they fit her in right away. I ended up leaving her in their care for the next two days before I made the absolutely awful, heartbreaking, and ultimately right decision to put her down (turned out she had a rare cancer that was basically incurable that was causing her organs to shut down). The reasons I am leaving a five star review are as follows: - The compassion I was shown from the very beginning - was made to feel like they genuinely cared about me and my pup - The fact that I got calls several times throughout her stay there - The fact that I could go see her whenever I wanted - The fact that I could call to see how she was doing - The morning that I decided to have her put down, they allowed me to sit in the back with her (she was on oxygen) for 2 hours I received two cards full of handwritten notes from their office offering their sympathy as well. Drs Hutt, Snyder, Kramer - all of them were so amazing throughout this extremely awful process. Dr. Hodgson (part of the surgeon staff) came in and gave me a hug. When I get a new puppy, I'm hoping that I won't have to go back there any time soon, if my dog has an emergency, I will know where to go to. Thank you so much for all the care you showed my best friend and companion during her last few days. I will never forget that. read more

Our regular vet was not available to see our dog while he was rapidly declining with a plethora of symptoms. He is 6 years old and was a very healthy active dog prior to his illness. We were unfortunately referred to this clinic. From the moment we got there, the docs were "certain" our dog had cancer and needed all sorts of tests/Ultrasounds that just so happened to cost thousands of dollars. They also wanted us to get a CT scan at another clinic. We didn't think this seemed right so we sent all the test results to our regular vet. She told us it was an OBVIOUS case of Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. We then asked if this clinic had tested for that. Their response was "oh, uh, no, but we can certainly test for that." Thank GOD for our normal vet requested our dog be put on the proper antibiotics and he bounced back quickly. He was literally on his deathbed and all this place wanted to do was convince us he had cancer and needed more and more expensive tests. They knew we live in a heavily wooded area and our dog spends that vast majority of his time outdoors. Wouldn't you think the first thing they'd test for is tick borne illness? I'm not sure if it's pure incompetence or deliberate planning to make more money. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT YOUR PET TO LIVE. read more

It took longer then what I was told. First tech was super friendly, second tech was ok stated they would check up on us but only checked up once. I was referred here from a Vet that unfortunately could not see my puppy. The doctor only cared about wanting to push for different test to be done and recommend medications that were not in stock. Also, I had to constantly repeat why I had brought my puppy to be seen to the doctor. I also want to note that I paid more here then going elsewhere for lab fee, emergency fee and medication. The first time we visited here was under very sad circumstances! Tara was very caring and compassionate to my family and I as we were grieving the loss of our cat. We were seen right away and given options as to what we were going to do with our baby that had just passed. We had never had a pet cremated before and we decided to have this done for our cat. The concern that was shown to us from Dr. D'Laura, Tara and Jerry was amazing as they know what the loss of a loved pet is to family. Not only did they go above and beyond the night this happened but to my surprise we got a condolence card from the office and the whole team signed it! Amazing place! We had to put our dog Luna down, 2 weeks ago and the staff was very friendly and understanding, first on the phone and when my husband brought her in. When she came in, she wasn't in a good shape and the staff brought her a blanket to get more comfortable. My husband did not have to wait long at all. Less than a week later we received a sympathy card in the mail with 12 people- basically the whole staff- having written their condolences. We experienced great customer service like we have not seen before. read more

Very bureaucratic, after requiring information entered via webpage, doctor has to collect the same information over again. Checkin in of dog and triage took 3 hours. Wait for another 6 hours. Returned dog for suture removal and had to go thru checkin process all over again even though they had a record of the operation and the need for the follow up. I just sat in a room for over an hour and wasn't seen by a vet. We were the only people there at 6am. My dog gets stressed out when she goes to the vet. She was shaking and panting for over an hour for nothing. Don't take you're dog here unless you want to waste your time. I work in an ER and this is horrible customer service. Vets are lucky they don't have patient satisfaction scores. After posting this review on their Facebook page I got a sorry excuse of an apology. Their vet probably did want to see my dog because it was about to be shift change at 7 and the vet didn't want to see us before he or she was about to get off of work. read more

I've now been twice to this location with my Akita puppies, and I'm going against the grain with the other reviews but I could not have been happier with my care. The first time was just 3 weeks ago when one puppy had an allergic reaction to something... bug bite/sting? The ER was a little busy there were 3 -4 other people with pets waiting. Our baby's face was swollen and he was uncomfortable but not in distress. A nice lady came out to triage us and then talk to the doctor about getting our pup back for some Benadryl and dexamethasone. Rather than keep us waiting they took him back for his medications and brought him back out to wait with us. We had to wait a while anyway to make sure he responded to his meds. All told we were there for about 2 hours, which is pretty damn good for any ER. (I work in a people ER a 2 hour turnaround is unheard of unless you're fast tracked). 2nd time was this morning, both pups are having GI upset pretty badly... lasting for going on 4 days now. Our one issue with urine smelling exam room was not an issue this time. Our dr was again very nice as was the triage tech and front desk staff. Turn around time was again about 2 hours, but I think I was the only one there. Regardless I would still definitely take my babies back here. This ER is 100x better than Falls Road Animal Hospital - do not go there. read more

Horrible experience at Pet+E.R. - Columbia. This location needs some sort of management because no one is in charge of the fools that work there. They are incompetent, inexperienced, amateur, unprofessional, immature. I don't think anyone has hit the age of 30 years old there. No one is running the place. You ask a question and no one ever knows the answer. You ask for a manager for a medical question and they send in the 20-something office manager who is completely ill-equipped with no lingo that pertains to anything medical. The medical director pretended she was driving and that her cell phone dropped the call when you could hear the birds chirping in the background like she was sitting outside hanging up on us. There seemed to be only one ER doctor there at a time, no one can ever talk to you. You wait for them to call you or call you back. You can't get any sort of nurse or tech to follow up or answer anything. The one time I got some tech to give me some sort of answer as to whether my dog had eaten or not (which was one of the main reasons she was there), she gave me the wrong info which I found out later when a different tech looked it up right in front of me and gave me a different answer--the one in the chart. You ask them to print or email you the records and they give you only test results without the notes or details. So you have to get the smarter of the Pet ER's--Towson--to get all of the information from Columbia for you. Even though these 2 locations are related, none of their information is shareable between them, which makes no sense. You have children running the Columbia Pet ER, and they are doing a very poor job of it. When the Dr. brought her textbook into the room to prove to me that she was right, after it was obvious that something went very wrong with my dog overnight, that was it. She told me we didn't need to euthanize earlier that day, and then the medical director said we should when the dog was just as bad as she was that morning. My dog suffered because of their incompetence! Why would you make her walk when she couldn't? The stupid techs tried to get her to walk to the car when she couldn't walk instead of using a gurney. The second she got to Pet ER Towson and we said she couldn't walk, they had a gurney for her and used it. I had to clean my poor girl off because your horrible workers didn't. They took her for short walks even when she couldn't walk, she must have fallen in the dirt, and they didn't clean her up at all. The regurgitation on her ears was thick and no one cleaned it up for days. She was there for 5 days with no one cleaning her up. I sat on the floor with her and poured my water onto paper towels to clean her paws, her feet, her nails, her tail, and her ears. This place should be shut down. I wish I had walked out at intake when I had a bad feeling about this place. No one knew if the paperwork was there even though the Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City transferred it there. No one bothered to look, they just said they didn't know. The intake idiot was copying my notes from the first ER instead of pulling the paperwork. And he was calling my dog the wrong name. They called in a prescription for my dog and asked me to pick it up and deliver it to them, so I did. And then they charged me for bringing it to them after I had paid for it at the pharmacy. Then they charged me again when we transferred to Towson and I brought it to that location. They never gave her oxygen or nebulized her, nor did any follow up xrays for her pneumonia even though she wasn't getting better. When we got to Towson, they did all of that immediately and gave me a funny look when they asked me if Columbia had done any of this and I said no. Columbia never told me her temperature had risen Saturday night/Sunday morning. I didn't find out until we got to Towson that she had a high fever. Columbia Dr. says in her notes that on Sunday morning she heard no crackle in the lungs, but the same day the Towson Dr. says she heard a lot of crackles, and she diagnosed severe pneumonia. Sildenafil was brought up as a possible drug to help symptoms at both Towson and Ellicott City ER's, but Columbia said no to it. For these reasons and so many more, the Pet ER Columbia is a horrible place and my poor dog suffered there. read more

Received a quote for treatment of an ear infection with sedation $450-800 on medium sized dog. Staff seemed nice and friendly, but price calculations feels like a predatory scam. Unless your pet is not literally dying, don't be bothered with Pet+ER facilities. read more

I took my puppy here early on a Saturday after an incident that probably required that X-rays be taken. She was not in any distress. Both vets on duty were going into surgeries and it would be several hours until my dog could be seen by one of them. The staff triaged the puppy and discussed her condition with a vet and then gave me the option of leaving her (at no extra charge) until a vet was available to examine her, which I accepted. While she was there I received texts from a tech reassuring me that her vitals were normal and she continued to show no adverse symptoms. A vet called me about 3 hours after I had left her and agreed that x-rays would be a good idea. I was given the cost and agreed. The vet called me about 45 minutes later with the good news that there had been no damage. Vet also said that he would be forwarding the X-rays to a radiologist for a second evaluation. While the total cost was $650 (x-rays and vet fee), i thought that the high quality of care, excellent communications with vet and staff, and availability of modern facility on a weekend was worth the cost. I would not hesitate to use this practice again. read more

I had to use their services this month when I brought a cat to them because she was having difficulty moving her back legs. They saw us immediately and started working on her. Unfortunately it was determined that the cat was gravely ill and had to be euthanized. They could not have been more efficient, knowledgeable and caring during such a difficult time. read more

We brought our dog to get her ear stitched up. We understood the wait, given that they were busy and a split ear was not considered an emergency . We opted to go there as our vet was closed at the time. Upon examination we were quoted a price of $500. which would include the removal of the stitches. When we went to pick our dog up they added another $200. We understood that given that this is an emergency situation and medication was involved that there would be probably an additional cost . We were told we could bring our dog back to have the stitches removed and there would be no cost involved at all.When we called back to ensure there would be time to remove the stitches, 2 weeks later, we were quoted a price of $110. Evidently for an examination. This is absolutely ludicrous. I could have just made an appointment with our vet ,which we are now going to do, to have the stitches removed. Going forward it would probably be to their benefit to make sure they include all costs so that people aren't hit with unexpected additional costs. read more

Two ratings here for one. First, the Vet Doctors are awesome, and so are the Techs. What is not good is the administration speed of this place. It's atrocious!! The moment the Doctor talks to you and let's you know their portion is done, and the pet is ready for discharge, it should not take 30 more minutes to get out of there!! And the worse part is the LEAD ADMINISTRATOR there is so entrenched in her ways, she is incapable of recognizing their administration side could USE A TON OF EFFICIENT improvement to speed up the discharge process. But again, as far as the Docs and Techs go, great people to work with, but more importantly.....EASY TO WORK WITH. Your pet is in great hands here. read more

I cannot speak to Pet + ER's treatment of ailing pets. What I can speak to, and cannot say enough about, is their treatment of the people connected to these animals. We arrived last Tuesday morning knowing our girl was gone. I think we lost her in the car on the way there. The staff rushed us into a room where at least 4 doctors and techs ran in to try to revive her. They did CPR, but she was gone. They offered to continue CPR, but we knew. Then they showed us to a room where we got to spend as much time saying goodbye as we needed. Every employee was kind and sensitive and demonstrated pure compassion. They even handled the bill with tact and sensitivity, which I know sounds like a weird thing to say, but it matters. We even got a paw print with her name free of charge. We chose not to do ashes, so this is a beautiful memento of our beloved dog. I'm sorry to write a sad review, but I wanted to thank the staff for what they do. I don't want anyone to ever have to go through what we did, but I'm glad that the staff at Pet ER is so well-equipped and compassionate to help anyone who does. read more

My Great Dane Molly began experiencing severe diarrhea and I took her to Pet ER at Columbia, MD. They recommended an ultrasound be performed instead of an x ray. The next day they called and told me that images showed a long linear foreign object in Molly's stomach. I was told that surgery is recommended and was quoted $5,550 -$7,500 to have the surgery at Pet ER. Unable to afford that, I asked the vet if I was looking at having to euthanize Molly. She mentioned I could try a low-cost surgery center which would cost $1,200. I took Molly to the surgery center and afterwards they call me to notify me that no object was found in her stomach. I picked Molly up and transport her back to Pet ER for post-op care and requested to speak to the vet. I asked the vet to explain how an object could just disappear from her stomach. I am NOW told it could have been an artifact, moved to her intestines, or could still be in her stomach. I am also told that diarrhea could last 5-7 days in dogs and that she could possibly pass the object naturally without surgery. This is all new information that was only given to me after surgery was performed and nothing was found. After informing my wife of all the new information, we decided we would like to speak to the lead vet and practice director for Pet ER. The following day we met with the lead vet and practice director. Before I came in, the lead vet performed an unapproved x ray on my dog which showed no evidence of the object. I asked the vet why he would perform an x ray after the previous vet recommended against it. He said he was hoping it would show the object. The practice director asks what more they can do to make the situation better. I ask that a 2nd ultrasound be performed to confirm the object still exists. The lead vet offers to perform the scan at discounted price. The practice director then steps in and tells us it will be fully comped. Molly received a 2nd ultrasound the following day and no linear object was detected. I asked what could have happened to the object and there is no explanation given. I requested the medical director review everything that has happened since I was led to believe there was an object in our dog's stomach that required emergency surgery, no object was found and follow up scans show no object. I review all invoices I have paid and noticed Pet ER partially charged me for the x ray I never authorized and was told would be no charge. The medical director contacts me the following week and we set up a meeting. I ask several questions during the call and why information was withheld until after the surgery was performed. She said she wishes that information was given before the surgery and admits things should have been handled differently. I also ask why one vet would recommend against a x ray and another would recommend and then perform it. Again, no real good explanation on why. Pet ER agrees to refund Molly's initial admittance and diagnosis fee which is $425 and the extra $265 that was charged to us. I spent close to $4,487 at Pet ER and another $1,200 at the surgery center. This is the best Pet ER can do for an unnecessary surgery on a geriatric dog after they didn't inform me of all my options and withheld information. After waiting a week, I checked my bank account and notice Pet ER had charged me an additional $690 instead of refunded me. I called immediately at 11pm Saturday night and I'm told to expect a call the following Monday. Pet ER calls and profusely apologizes about the mistake and refunds me the correct amount. The number of mistakes made are appalling. Not only did my dog have an unnecessary surgery, I ended up back to ground zero with no explanation and $5,687 debt. I was improperly charged extra TWICE. I was referred to them by VCA. My dog has been sick for 2 1/2 days. I opened the door and asked if I could come in? The front desk person asked "what do you want?" The visit went downhill from there. Jacqueline tried to defuse it. I appreciate her. The actual problem is the way in which I was welcomed (rather welcomed). How about "Hi! What's going on? What's your name? I'm so sorry, we are so busy. Can we refer you to another ER?" Won't ever be back. Train your front desk staff please. read more

So much legitimate love, care and concern for my little girl. Poppy was experiencing seizures and vomiting. The veterinarian there really took the time to sit down and ask as many detailed questions as possible. There was nothing "general" or "generic" about the process. The veterinarian really listened and provided me with all the possibilities, but narrowed it down to the most likely possibility. They didn't try to sell me anything or over prescribe like the primary care we use. Turns out she was exposed to something toxic and just needed to recover. Our primary care tried to prescribe anti seizure medication for the rest of her life which wasn't necessary. This place is the best place to go. read more

This place was recommended to us by Dogs and Cats. Pet ER rejected treating our dog saying they had more urgent situations. Our dog was in a precarious state, not eating, extremely weak. They didn't bother to check anything except her vitals. We took her to another animal hospital who was shocked that no one bothered to treat our dog for a uterine infection that had become toxic. This is disappointing. They basically referred us back to Dogs and Cats and vice versa. No one wanted to help. read more

This was by far the worst interaction I have had with a Pet health facility in my entire life. I wish I could rate -5 stars. My daughter's puppy got into some steel wool. We called the Pet Hospital in Baltimore and they said they were at capacity, so they referred us to Columbia. My daughter called and Columbia said to bring the puppy. We drove 25 minutes and then registered as directed and waited another 50 minutes before getting the puppy triaged. Of course, as each minute passed, my daughter was very frightened...worried that the window for inducing vomiting, if that was what was called for, was closing. The nurse triaged the puppy and then informed us that there was a TWELVE HOUR WAIT. I'm going to repeat that, in case you missed it. We were told to bring the puppy in. When we got there, 25 minutes later, we registered, waited 50 minutes, and then was told that there was a TWELVE HOUR WAIT. I told the nurse that this was unacceptable---that if the course of action would be to induce vomiting, obviously after a wait like that, it would no longer be available, leaving surgery as the only option. She said 'she was so sorry' but that there was no other option. I told her this was not acceptable, that the puppy needed to be seen to determine if vomiting was called for since that window was closing. She got the manager and the manager repeated that it would be a 12 hour wait. Needless to say, I was furious, and I did not hold back in expressing this. We ended up calling the ASPCA poison hotline ($75) and following their instructions. I have had dogs most of my life---I have never encountered such a ridiculous bait and switch scenario as I did at this place. read more

Somehow how my first review disappeared, no problem, I'll write it again. People need to know to never, ever bring their pets to PetER Columbia MD. This is the worst place ever! Don't walk away from this place......RUN! I had the utmost worst experience of my life here last year. They almost convinced me to euthanize my wonderful sweet pug, Stallone. Thank god I came to my senses, got my dog away from them and got the heck outta there. Want to know how Stallone is now. He is wonderful; running, playing, barking, chewing his toys and being the joy he always is. With the anti-inflammatories, pain medication, and rest he completely recovered on his own (he fell off the back of the couch). And this place because of their complete and utter incompetent veterinarian we saw ALMOST talked me into killing my sweet Stallone. A dog who wasn't even serious injured at all, just hurt himself. What kind of vet does that?!?! The worst kind. This place shouldnt be called PetER, it should be called PetEU! Because apparently the vet I saw was only interested in euthanizing my dog! This place should not be allowed to operate as an emergency vet hospital, they are so negligent, egregious and utterly incompetent. I've wait around a year to post this review, it has taken me this long to get passed what happened, or I should say p, what almost happened. I'll try to keep what happened as short as possible... My sweet older dog Stallone fell off the back of the couch one evening. He was in obvious pain, I took him to Pet ER. We were seen by a young caucasian female "veterinarian" who was about 5'4" and had brown shoulder length curly wavy hair. While she was evaluating Stallone I explained that back in 2014 he did have surgery performed for herniated discs in his neck and that he has been doing well since then. I adopted him in 2014 so his age is a guess of between 10 - 12yrs old. I had X-rays and bloodwork done. Stallone, at this point, still has not had any pain meds and was still very painful and looking rather bad. The "vet", explains she did not see any issues with his skeleton, the bloodwork looks good but that xrays can not be used to diagnose soft tissue or internal injury and I will need to see a specialist for an MRI and maybe surgery. (Keep in mind poor Stallone still has not had any meds). When the "vet" laid all of that on me I thought OMG, where am I going to find thousands of dollars over night, I started calling family to borrow money, tried to increase my credit limits, tried to take out a loan against my retirement...you get the idea. I ask the vet to call and try and get us an appoint with a specialist. By now I was crying, all worked up and was very concerned about finances. Then the "vet" started to talk to me about euthanasia. I couldn't believe my ears and of course that upset me even more. The "vet" was telling me Stallone was in pain, and how bad he looks...how I would put want him to suffer....etc. By now they had the euthanasia paperwork all ready for me and had taken Stallone to the back and put a catheter in, in preparation to administer whatever drug they use for euthanasia. The vet tech was handing me the paperwork, I was in hysterics and crying profusely.....and then I had a moment. I stopped..I just stopped....took a step back and just stopped. In that moment there came clarity....this "vet", didn't know Stallone, she didn't know me, she was barely out of vet school and Stallone has not been given any pain meds, of course he is looking and acting bad....nothing is broken, bloodwork is good..... No! No euthanasia!!! Give Stallone pain meds and anti-inflammatories right now and give me pain meds and anti-inflammatories for home you fu**cking a**holes. I actually didn't swear at them, but I was thinking it. These people had me so upset and had almost talked me into euthanasia my beautiful, sweet and loving Stallone. When they brought Stallone back to me I grabbed him away from them. My agony had quite quickly turned into absolute blood red rage, so much rage I couldn't even speak. I paid the bill and almost ran from the building. Want to know how Stallone is doing now, June 23, 2019.....he is Wonderful!! All he needed were the meds and time. He made a full recovery all on his own, I didn't even have to bring him to my vet for any follow-up for any lingering issues from that event. Total and complete recovery! That incompetent and negligent vet literally almost had talked me into killing my dog, my healthy, happy Stallone. The only thing worse would be if she had performed a procedure so badly that the animal died. However, trying to talk a person into needlessly euthanizing their beloved pet is a tie for massive incompetence, negligence and just plain maliciousness. My recommendation is, if you are only interested in killing your animal than bring them here and to this vet....just ask for "Ms Dr. Death". A more accurate name and description for this place should be "Pet+EU with Ms. Dr. Death, she will do her best to kill your pet." If you want good and compassionate care for your beloved furry family members than never, ever bring them to Pet+EU! This place should be ashamed of themselves and "Ms. Dr. Death" should not be allowed to practice veterinary medicine anywhere...ever! I brought my dog in at 5:45 PM and there is only one other dog there and no one in the waiting room. My dog with scene at approximately 7 PM and brought back with an abscess that was draining. We then sat for two hours waiting for discharge papers. We were released at 9:10 PM. If I had known that their service would be so poor and it was by far a slower process than any of the most crowded ERs I've ever been in but for humans I would definitely reconsidered taking her there read more

My current vet wasn't able to get my dog Jack in on a Sunday a referred me to this location. I called ahead and explained he just didn't want to get up. He was at my parents house due to me being out of town previously.. once I arrived there he was struggling to breathe and it was extremely difficult for him to get up. I had assistance with getting him into my car and I called the ER to explain I was going to need help and that I was on my way in a white car. I pulled up to the front door and there was a lady confirming it was Jack and two others came out with the stretcher/table. We loaded him onto it, we get into the front door and Dr. Kramer was there and brought him right back. The thing with this is that this was the first vet that I've gone to that didn't question me on what was going on and trusted he needed to be seen ASAP. They did their tests and removed the fluid from around his lungs which turned out to be cancer. They informed me how bad it was and etc.. so I planned to take him home for the time being but he turned for the worse within a week. I brought him back since it was time.. I can't remember that vets name but everyone at this location made me feel comfortable, I trusted them with him even when he stayed the night and they were so sincere . Within the past few weeks I have received hand signed cards with their heart felt sympathy which has gone a long way. All in all, if you need an emergency vet.. please go here! NEVER AGAIN! I brought my dog in and she had to stay for a few nights. Before admitting her I was told it would probably cost one price but could be higher based on unforeseen circumstances. I had to sign a document saying I would be willing to pay more if that was needed. Fine. I pick her up and I'm told it will be many hundred dollars more. I ask why. I am told I signed that it could be a higher price. I ask what happened differently to justify the price being raised. I am told the same thing. I don't do business that way. Drive further if needed.
