I thought it was thoughtful for the staff to send me a personalized card after the death of my dog.
Edrika G.

It's been almost three weeks since my Toby crossed the rainbow bridge. It was a Sunday and poor Toby was in extreme pain from osteosarcoma. I was hoping he would make it to his twelfth birthday, but I was being selfish. I couldn't even put his vest on him to help him get down the stairs and his stomach was extremely upset. As he lay on the grass outside resting, I knew it was time. My partner and I drove him to VEG and they directed us to a room. It was a nice room with a couch, dim lights and tissue boxes. I was crying my eyes out. They were very understanding and brought a blanket for Toby to lay on. They described different options and what I could expect. What a sad day. I had never put a dog to sleep, never expected my Toby to have cancer, never felt so sad. But the staff made everything better. I was able to choose an urn, order a footprint cast, I'm glad I came here. I miss my Toby. About a week later I received a personalized post card from VEG signed by staff members. I felt that was a very thoughtful action on their part. They turned what was a very tragic situation into one that left me with peaceful memories of that particular moment.

Oliver - Thanks Dr. Rodriguez, we love you!!!!!!!!!

Dr Rodriguez too and the techs too great care of my Oliver a few years ago. It's not cheap but in a pinch it's worth it!!!!

This is Gunny. Gunny ate some stuff he shouldn't have. VEG fixed him up and eased my soul.

Every time I've had to bring one of my dogs here the staff has been so kind and so caring and gentle with my dogs and my fragile emotional state any time they get into some kind of trouble...which has been more than a few times. I always leave feeling like my dog is going to be ok, I understand what they told me and what they did if anything needed to be done. They're not judgemental, I deserved to be judged when my one dog had a puncture wound I didn't know about until it was infected and they treated me so kindly I almost wished someone would have been mean bc I felt so bad for not knowing my buddy was in pain. I truly appreciate this clinic with every fiber of my being. I trust them with my dogs and for me that's huge bc they're my babies and I love them. Thank you guys for always treating me and my canine companions with such kindness AND excellent care of course!

Our apologies, this review should have been put in over a month ago-no excuses. My wife and I have nothing but high praises for VEG. We had a situation where our fur baby had to have a benign cyst removed, at our regular vet. However, things did not go as planned, fast forward our little angel needed a blood transfusion and time was of the essence. My wife and I were all the way down in the city. Our vet had their office manager rush our technically dying pup, to VEG where our son met her there. He did not tell us until later but said it did not look good. VEG started the transfusion immediately upon arrival-probably saving her life. Our unconditional love pup spent 30 hours in the ER and in the 02 chamber, each hour getting better. We were allowed to stay in a separate room, the entire 30 hours, watching her on a baby monitor. The DR. and tech's were great-we understood that this could have gone either way, they definitely did not sugar coat anything, we knew what we were up against, they were very straight forward. I have to say, we walked out of the ER, with our baby girl. It was not her time, and VEG made that happen. I understand that it is not always a positive outcome, unfortunately we witnessed that, the 30 hours that we were there. We feel blessed that we have more time with our girl. People that say it is just a dog/cat or whatever, should not own them. They are not pets, they are family members. We can't thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. You didn't give up on her and we didn't give up on you. You all as a team made this happen. THANK YOU!! Regards, Rob, Julia, & Delilah (BB) Gonzalez

Fur baby, Bentley.

My Cane Corso had to be seen on an emergency basis and had to have a procedure done a few days ago. Dr. Manning took great care of Bentley and took the time to talk to me in regards to what was going on and next steps (as I was at the airport traveling for work). Bentley is doing much better thanks to the services he received.

Leaving three stars because although they are really nice there and seem to genuinely care about…read moreanimals, I feel like they are too quick to recommend euthanasia. We brought my mom's cat in who had suddenly become very ill. The first thing the vet recommended was euthanasia, citing the cat's many health issues (heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure). Just a day prior the cat had been eating well and full of energy, even tried to climb a tree while I walked him on his leash. The vet went as far as to make us feel guilty for NOT euthanizing him, telling us it was their duty to advocate for the animal's interests. My mom opted to get him hydrated and stable and we brought him to our regular vet the following day. The vet acknowledged his health issues but suspected that his kidneys were at the root of everything. He flushed the cat's kidneys over several days and now he's back to his old self. Maybe a little thinner, but he's eating well, purring, seems to be very happy and comfortable. He does have to get subcutaneous fluids now, but many cats do and it doesn't affect his over all quality of life. In retrospect I don't think euthanasia was the right call on that day. If that is recommended to you by this vet, I would definitely get a second opinion. Unfortunately, people in an emergency situation will probably not have time to read this review. Sadly, our wonderful primary vet who got him stabilized has since passed away.

Before they would treat her, we had to sign an agreement to spend 4000 to 6000 dollars. My daughter is there - we love our kitty -- what are you going to do? Ginger died the next day -- not 6 months to a year later. The Hospital Director said "sorry, no partial refunds -- it's company policy." So -- if you think this is a reasonable practice, okay -- but I don't. The workers there love animals, the corporate leadership stinks and is just another example of the scam economy we all live in now.

Service:5 Stars Pricing: 2 Stars…read more This past weekend, I had a very positive experience at VEG that was overshadowed by what appears to have been sheer greed. We brought our goldendoodle to VEG because he cut his paw; the laceration split one of the digits on his paw, with superficial flesh exposure. It wasn't the worst wound in the world, but bleeding persisted and it was deep enough that we needed to determine whether stitches may be needed. Dr. Forte and the technicians (I'm so sorry I did not get their names) were just amazing. And Sarah, who did our intake, was uncommonly kind and attentive. I had absolutely zero complaints with the staff. My sole complaint was with the pricing of a pain medication. I understand that emergency treatment is not inexpensive; it's just the nature of the beast. Still, when the Dr. said the total came to $400 for the exam, cleansing/bandaging of the wound and medication, I was a bit surprised so asked for a rough breakdown. The culprit, in my view, was a common, canine, pain medication, with which I was familiar. The cost was $93 for 14 pills. I asked the doctor if we could purchase it elsewhere and she said we could. When I filled the prescription at a grocery store pharmacy, I was shocked and then angered by what I learned. The prescription, for which VEG was charging $93, was $9.99 at my local Giant pharmacy. I could not believe (and still do not) a reasonable justification would exist for such an excessive medication markup. Surely, I thought, this chain hospital has access to preferred/wholesale pricing. Parasitic was the word that came to mind. I saw a business exploiting people already experiencing stress and vulnerability as the result of a beloved pet's sickness or injury. Although I was very pleased with the service we received, I am just very disappointed and troubled by this issue, to say the least. Certainly, this is not unheard of in the society in which we live. But VEG ownership/management, I feel you do a great disservice to the excellent employees who, clearly, work so hard to represent you in the best and highest light. With respect, do better...

From the second I walked in all attention was on MY BABY'S Care!! I ended up having to say good bye to my baby (turned out he had a very serious issue) and even that horrible experience was made a little better because of staff. The care and treatment that was shown reminded me of the old days when vets cared about the animals (sick patients) and people (usually distraught and scared) they saw, and not how it seems now a days when you and your animal are treated with no more concern/ care/ value/ compassion than you are treated at the grocery store in a check out line. VEG claims to be dedicated to making the animals care and the people's care the FOCUS, and my experience was just that!

Over the previous few days her health spiraled, and the staff were able to see her quickly on a Saturday. By that evening I found out too late that my sweet girl had metastatic cancer that was just everywhere... A week before this I had no idea she was sick. Although I have had family pets as well as my own, I had never had to make the decision to humanely euthanize my loved one to minimize their suffering. Dr. Frey was very patient and compassionate in making sure I understood the situation and the decisions to be made. Later that night my family and I were saying goodbye to Juliet and setting her free from her suffering. I could not have asked for a more peaceful or serene last few moments with Juliet falling asleep in my arms, rattling my entire body with her purring. Thank you so much to Dr. Frey and the staff for helping us through this process and taking such good care of her. I will always be grateful. Love you, Juliet.

I was very clear that I wanted the vet, who had done a necropsy for another of my birds where she last practiced, to do the necropsy when I called not once but TWO times with two different people. I didn't find out that the bird would be 'shipped' somewhere in VA for the necropsy and that I couldn't get remains back until I arrived there. I was so upset that I made a wasted trip while so devastated at losing my bird, especially because the two people there when I arrived were so unsympathetic and spoke like robots to me while I was crying. That just left me shocked at their behavior and more upset.I admit to being nasty to them but was in shock and grief. I went to Pender Vet in VA where I normally take my birds but it's way further but was treated with dignity and sympathy as one would expect. I wrote a snail mail letter to the manager so he would know he needed to retrain his employees and never heard back. Then, when I had an emergency today with a bird with a possible broken wing, I was told I could not be seen there ever because I had an altercation with staff in April 2026! This is how much they really care about hurt animals and their clients. How do you not follow up with a client when you have a complaint by someone upset enough to compose and mail a letter?? They have a high staff turnover and that explains a lot. I wouldn't advise anyone to go to this place!

VEG-ER is the best…read more Eariler this week one evening, we had to take our Siamese boy, Pablo, to VEG-ER not long before midnight. You know you've heard that if your indoor-outdoor cat who always comes home one day doesn't come home one day, something has happened. Well, it's true. Usually, Pablo (a.k.a. Bunky) comes back within minutes after being let out, but this day was different. We looked for him and looked for him, but came up empty-handed. Pablo has an AirTag and, curiously, it showed he was on our property. Finally, he appeared around 10:00pm at the back door. We were relieved, but noticed he had wounds on his hind legs. Because of our excellent experience we had last year with VEG-ER, we brought Pablo here. Pablo received top-shelf compassionate treatment from the VEG-ER staff, each of whom has a heart of gold. I really admire, respect and appreciate people that devote their lives to the care of pets. They're a blessing. We were told Pablo did not experience an animal attack, but maybe got stuck on a fence, and slipped. Pablo is home recovering now, getting stronger by the day. We basically live in the woods, and realize fully now that it is just too dangerous here to let him outside unsupervised anymore..

We've been to many pet ERs/urgent cares in the 8 years we've lived in NoVa and this the only hospital where we spoke to a doctor within a few minutes of walking in the door. They were thorough, took time to explain our treatment/testing options and answer questions, and made us feel like Norman's care mattered even when more severe emergency cases came in. At VEG, you can see everything, stay with your pet, watch their treatment, and staff are readily available to talk to or answer questions. That alone eased so much anxiety. Kenzie, one of the nurses that was assigned to Norman, was so kind. It was clear that everyone in the room cared about making these animals feel comfortable. More than one nurse came over to introduce themselves when we were preparing to leave Norman overnight. They offered us a room where we could stay with him if we wanted, and even asked what he liked to watch on TV to create a comfortable environment for him after we let them know he suffers from separation anxiety. The discharge and follow-up notes were also incredibly detailed, which made following up with our primary vet so much easier. No one ever wants to bring their animal to an ER, but this is now the only place we will go when we need urgent medical care. A HUGE thank you to everyone at VEG Alexandria for taking such good care of our dog!
