Thanks to Yelp we discovered this place! It's somewhat of a far drive from where we live however, it's worth the trip! In searching for many months for a larger size of a particular brand of dry dog food that we introduced our dogs to & came highly recommended, we unfortunately could only get the small bags (5 lb) in our area. This label has worked wonders for them and we happened upon this wonderful place that carries exactly what we were searching for which is the 30 lbs bag. Pet Food Depot, has been a three-store family-owned and operated Pet Supplies and Feed store chain in the Metro Phoenix Area for over three decades. Believe they have two locations with another opening up near Glendale. Really also like to support locally owned businesses especially a stable like this with so much history in the vast community. Cannot miss this place and where it's located. Right as you pull into the lot you notice not only the big red barn style building, but the HUGE white Bulldog that keeps guard over the parking lot. Shop is inviting with a wide selection for your pets needs. Higher end than grocery stores and the standard pet stores, with much better quality to ensure your pet gets the best products. Employees pleasant, much to browse and seems an easy process to find what you need as it's seems fairly organized by each aisle. Sign up for their news letter to receive special promotions. They do offer a rewards program and after spending a certain amount you receive money off particular merchandise. Love love love the DIY Dog Bath! It's so nice it is private, as my dog isn't great with others. They have everything you need and more! Super clean and friendly employees! We LOVE this neighborhood, family owned business. Prices are a few cents more on CERTAIN items. If you have issues with that- go to a different store. I would rather pay for family owned, personable employees and the store is CLEAN. It was a little warmer in there but considering it's 110 degrees outside today i'm surely not surprised. I used the self wash dog station and it was clean, disinfected and smelt clean as well. They provide all the necessary tools and such for you to get the job done. I wish it was 20 minutes instead of 15 because i have a triple coated dog and he takes awhile to get dried. The employees cleaned the room after me without me having to do ANYTHING!!!!! The employees always ask me if i need help and are attending to customers and patrons 10/10 would always recommend this store. We buy everything for our fur friends there. Thanks guys!!! read more

I came into the Cave Creek location Saturday January 4, 2025 for the first time. I have lived across the street for the past 3 years and finally decided to go in. Not only was your store welcoming, but you have an employee that goes by the name Tony (just started two days ago) that made my experience even better. I have two fur babies and was looking for something that is more feasible for them instead of the brand I had used prior because they are older and have had dental work done. They don't have many teeth left so I was looking for softer food but still kibble. Tony went above and beyond and showed me two brands that he highly recommended. Gave me examples of his own dogs, the flavors that were good and flavors that my dogs may not like. I felt that he really took care of my questions and concerns but had the best interest of not only my wallet but my fur babies as well. I live in the neighborhood. Union Hills and 20th ST. I have been shopping here since I moved up North (2012). I will agree it HAS changed. (NOT for the better) YES, the employees are still rude (most of the time, not ALL). Some things will never change. They used to be more competitive with their pricing, and I didn't mind spending a little bit more to support the business. Now it's a LOT more PER item. Nothing is priced competitively. I can get my dry food delivered for 15 less, and the same 19.99 dog toy is 6.99 at Marshall's. The dog treats, I buy Pet Stages double pack (regular and BBQ flavor) fake sticks made from real wood. I get them at Marshall's for 6.99, and they charge...... With that being said, they DO have an awesome assortment of canned high-quality dog food. You can get some of their brands at a great discount. Depending on if the manufacturer is offering a promotional deal or is offering coupons. I'm glad they FINALLY started selling their (dog treat) pig ears individually wrapped!!!. Every time I used to pick through the barrel, there were BLACK BUGS all over them. I have had them crawl out of my bags when I got home. Thanks a million for that, and please don't go back to the unwrapped again. One thing I know for sure is I never want to own a business that has anything to do with pets. The negative reviews about this place are almost comical what people (some of whom live 1000 miles away) can find to complain about, and some I suspect who have never even bought anything here. Here's my two cents. I've been coming here off and on since I moved to the neighborhood 12 years ago. I can find things here I can't find in other places. At first glance it may seem their prices are a little high but the reality is that they are selling more premium brands that you won't find at your supermarket or mega-discount store. It's my choice to come here and pay the price that it's their choice to charge, it's stupid to shop somewhere you can't afford to shop. Their selection is more like what I've seen at the local co-op in the Oklahoma panhandle than what I would expect to find within the city limits of the 6th largest city in America. Who can complain about that? The customer service is mercurial, I've had a few polite and helpful salespeople and other ones who were counting down the seconds until their shift ended. Most times they never look up from their iPhones when you walk in the door to even acknowledge you exist. So what, I can name 50 other retail stores I shop in that I could say the same about. 95% of the time people treat you like you treat them. 'Nuff said. They have plenty of parking and the Cave Creek Rd store is easy to get to without fighting traffic. As far as complaints from me I have two. Pet Food Depot's entire claim to fame is being a locally-owned mom and pop specialty store. Yet I can't count one single time when I asked a salesperson a question that they didn't vaguely point their finger off in some direction and say "it's over there". I get (and expect) that level of non-service at Walmart. If I'm going to choose to make the trip to a small specialty store and pay top dollar I expect that clerk to move his/her ass and walk over with me and personally help me make the right choice for my needs. My other issue is their website is definitely not user friendly (but I understand they are trying to fix that). Right now, as soon as you log in you are faced with a popup demanding personal information then another popup immediately pops up OVER the first one with some other breathless message. I have a standard way of dealing with websites that won't let me in until I sign up first ... I leave and never go back again. Attention owners of Pet Food Depot - you're a local two-store operation, you've been sold an over-fancy over-techie website by some slick IT huckster. Stop trying to pretend you're Facebook and drop all the slick come-ons at your website! read more

I went into pet depot less than a week ago to buy a hummingbird feeder but did not find one I liked..So I was walking around and came to a cage with about 15 or 20 green parakeets in it .The cages were very dirty with cobe webs in them. Then I noticed a very small parakeet which was a baby. I knew this bird was not well I bought it.. there was no way this bird was able to eat there was not enough food for that many birds in the cage. Took baby bird to vet next day . Vet said not sure it will make it because of malnutrition. I do believe this pet depot should not carry live animals. They should stick to selling pet food and supplies. My husband and I went in for the first time the other day curious to see their baby chick selection. They had a nice big bin of 100 sweet little babies but the the longer we looked at them the more we noticed some problems. Quite a few of the chicks had SEVERE pasty butt which is a fairly minor issue but can be deadly if no one addresses it and cleans them up. I notified an employee and was met with a grunt as they walked off to go take care of them. My husband and I continued walking around the store checking out the products they had for chickens and rabbits. The prices were quite a bit higher than the competition. When we were done looking around at the products we went back over to the chicks on our way out and noticed that none of the chicks seemed to have been helped. I went back up to the front desk to speak to the employees to tell them about the chicks and was met with "I already got 2 of them." I told him kindly that unfortunately there were others that still desperately needed help so he followed me back. I helped him grab the chicks into a box and he went off with them. The employees seemed VERY annoyed to have to take care of the animals, which is very sad and concerning! The baby chicks were not being taken care of properly. They were being fed crumble instead of mash and being just days old can be very difficult for them to eat as the pieces are too large. My husband and I were very saddened by the complete lack of care being given by the employees. read more

Basically, the problem is that, after over a year, the loyalty-card problem has never been resolved. I have continued to "shop local" and buy dog food here every month, but still have to go through the same time-consuming nightmare of the "loyalty card search" , every single visit. This time, I took photos of the process. The entire cashwrap was its usual, disorganized mess, and the sales associate could not locate my card. He called out all hands on deck from the back room to search for my card and ring-up the other customers who were waiting patiently behind me. The "search" associates proceeded to dump out the contents of some plastic containers on the floor, the countertops, and where ever there was space. Others searched through one "recipe box" after another. I joined in the excavation and unearthed several customer cards that were just tossed into the big plastic bins, versus "filed" into the recipe boxes, and handed them to an associate to get filed (otherwise, those customers will be unhappy when they return). Finally, my card was located, and I immediately took possession of it. I am on bag #11 out of #12, and I do NOT want a repeat of last year's scenario when I come in to redeem it next month. I am so glad we have this store in our neighborhood. Chuck the Wonderdawg is particular and, like many of us, he is getting older and we are a little more careful with his diet. Frankly, while probably more convenient when we shop for people food, grocery stores haven't provided the quality pet foods we were looking for. Our pet loves his dog food--for a while. Once he has us trained to buy it, he suddenly decides he no longer likes it. Pet Food Depot has a good variety and multiple "flavors" of our favorite brands. I've also been told to "just bring it back" if Chuck decides he won't eat it. They have lots of healthy treats and when we started taking nose work classes Pet Depot had some of the smelliest fish treats (which we needed for training). The employees have always been polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Now, if they would just stop trying to confuse me by moving things around......... read more

I spent $60 on 2 bags of raw food and they had the nerve to ask for $1 for a chewie my dog grabbed. The other pet store gave me tons on samples and treats. Won't be visiting again. Yes store manager I offered to pay. I only had a $100 dollar bill. They still insisted and complained the whole time about the change. Very uncomfortable. I'm from Seattle and only feed my dog raw food on the road which is $30 a bag and up. Won't be going back to your establishment. I've taken my dog into many other stores off his leash and since he carries his own leash he is seen as cute and has been offered treats everywhere else. Dog already pooped out the food and lady is still complaining about $1. Thank goodness I'm back in California where people are kind and generous. read more

When I was in yesterday I was very pleased with the customer service I received. Called this morning seeking help with the chicks they sold me that appear sickly and received rude comments from the person I was on the phone with (couldn't tell you his name since they don't say their name when answering the phone). Very disappointing. Addie, I was told the chicks were four weeks old, not two. They were not lethargic due to cold because I took precautions even after being told the incorrect age. With help from someone outside of your store they are being cared for properly because I do know how to care for them - I'm not stupid like your employee seems to think I am. Don't worry, because I found someone that was eager to help instead of trying to make me feel bad and they are doing much better today. read more

Overpriced and they over charged me because the scale didn't weigh it right, it was a bulk food and I paid for 7.5 pounds when in reality it was just under 5, and when I tried to return it they couldn't take it because of the type of item, because it was a resealable bag and they were saying I could've taken some out, but the bag was full and unopened and 2.5 lbs is a very noticeable difference, it would've been empty at that point, and if they weighed one of the similar pre portioned bags they would've seen it was in the same range and couldn't hold over 7 pounds any day. read more

Pretty rad store. I only feed my dog 5 star+ foods, and this place definitely has the best selection of top notch foods I've ever seen. Incredible variety, lots of stuff I've never seen before. I'm partial to Wellness foods, and their prices on Core bags is ~$10 less than anywhere else I've bought it from (makes you think about places that offer free food loyalty programs when they just jack up the price of the bags). Massive selection of Merrick canned foods, too. Lots of great treats, chew toys and stuff in general. Always find something new and interesting to give my dog, and the prices are great. Staff is friendly and store is clean. Also looks like they donate a TON of quality food to animal shelters (saw 3-4 pallets of damaged bags waiting to be picked up last time I went), which is great to see, especially from a small business. On 9/6/2021 I tried to return a collar to the store. I had no receipt and no tags on the collar since I was positive it would fit. Well, It does not fit so I took it back to exchange it. I had never had a problem before returning something without a receipt. Well, last night turned into a huge argument. I got so frustrated that I grabbed back my collar and almost ran out of the store. I got very tired of some woman screaming in my ears, I wear hearing aids, that there is nothing we can do without a receipt or tags you have to come back tomorrow. I live 4 blocks north of Union Hills on 23rd Ave, they are at Cave Creek and Grovers. Plus I am tired of driving out there only to find they do not have or will not do what I need. They did not have to refund the money for a collar so I could turn right around and buy the next smaller size but they lost a customer. I feel like the problem was needlessly escalated into a woman making sure the boys heard her and did exactly what she said exactly the way she said. All I wanted was to give the larger more expensive collar back and get the smaller less expensive collar and come home. read more

Great for anyone who loves to spoil their furry "kids". This place always cheers me up too. I would give this 4.5 stars and not 5 stars because sometimes the head cashier chick gives me the stink eye when I go in. They have a great selection of dog and cat food. Not just the standard stuff that Petco and Petsmart have, but real organic and high quality stuff. Of course, that means some of their food is more expensive than you will find at Petsmart. However, they have some stuff that are less expensive for your pup or kitty, such as collars, toys, catnip, treats... This place it's great. Really reminds me of a country feed store. They carry everything you need for any size pet, the staff is very helpful & they have the best prices around. I was paying 10¢ pet cricket at petsmart & they sell there's in bulk 500 for $20. Which is a lifesaver when your son has 2 growing beardies. And I love how there's always baby chicks & ducklings chirping away. They're so cute! P.S. anyone looking for fly/flea spray for pets or livestock- AVON SKIN-SO-SOFT spray oil is the best cheapest non-toxic bug/mosquito repellant out there.
