And beware if you buy anything from the "Last Chance" bin: Nowhere on this bin, nor on the merchandise, does it say "Final Sale" but the employees enforce a strict "Final Sale" policy. They said "Last Chance" implies "Final Sale" ... no it does not. It could mean this product or brand will be discontinued. It can mean many things. If you want to traumatize your tiny senior dog with a bath then this is the place for you! We've never been here before and won't be going back. I put the token in and the water was freezing cold, then it turned way too hot, repeatedly. I ran to get help because my dog is almost blind and was getting anxious at this point. They said this had happened previously the same day so I'm wondering why they didn't close down that bathtub for future customers? They put in a token for another bathtub for us. I just moved as fast as I could to get her out of there. The blow dryer was very cold for a small dog. You have no control except for the water pressure.. I honestly can't believe I paid for that experience. I highly don't recommend you bring a senior dog to this place. read more

Have been going here for years because the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I particularly love the buy 3 get 1 free deal on all of their cat litter. This makes their price point unbeatable! They also let you return the unused portion if you are trying to figure out litter for picky cats, like I've been in the process of doing. Of course you should bring your original receipt, but even if you do not, their customer service is even helpful. Who has ever heard of friendly customer service? At the Telegraph store I was helped by Toni--the best!-- They spoke to me for a super long time helping me think through cat litter options. I went into the store at my wits-end because my 6-month old kittens began to reject their litter and go outside of the box! No really, I was on the verge of tears. Toni listened, offered expert advice but mostly importantly, I honestly felt supported. Who gets that when shopping for litter? Best pet supply store in the Bay Area. Between the Broadway location and the Telegraph one, they usually have excellent selection. The staff is super helpful. Recently, they only had one bag of my usual kibble in the store. I was hoping to get more and the staff special ordered my request at no extra charge and it was available for pick up within a week. The usual buy 3 get 1 free on everything is worth the money. If you're looking for suggestions, the staff is usually very helpful, often suggesting value items over the most expensive option, which I appreciate a lot. Located on the corner of Telegraph and Alcatraz. A few parking spaces in front. Pet Food Express has an ongoing deal where you buy 3 of bags of food or treats and you get a fourth free. They have a variety of brands and carry what we feed our dog. They have a dog wash but i dont remember having used this location's wash. The staff is very friendly and we've always received great customer service. They have been low on inventory and selection and it happens.. Delayed delieveries or what have you. (Not to the point of a barren store). When trying something new, we were informed we would be able to return item(s) even if opened if it didn't work out. Wow I was blown away by the customer service at this Pet Food Express. I stopped in quickly for some new dog food and Miles was beyond helpful. He walked me through the whole store offering suggestions about which dog food options were the healthiest for the best price. I got this new pack of food on sale and my dog loves it! Everything is organized in the store and very reasonably priced. I love how there are full refunds on all items, even the food if your pet doesn't like it. Anything you return, gets donated to the a pet shelter or humane society!! That's amazing so nothing goes to waste. I'm really not a chain-store kind of person, but from when I've been in Pet Food Express and from all my experiences (here and at the 51st/Broadway location) on rare occasions that I've popped in they really seem to have it dialed in. Not ALL chains are bad. They give you a feeling of caring, hardworking employees and a clean store. Because I have a parrot and will always default to Your Basic Bird for bird needs as long as they survive, I really only pop into PFE when I'm playing auntie to friends' dogs. But when I do, they are SO WELL STOCKED for dogs and cats, with friendly employees and a clean store. I think I encountered three whole aisles of dog treats on my last visit, and I was overwhelmed with choice. It's nice when you can hang for a while and label-read. I wanted no fillers/additives/flavors, and they had lots of choices. It was easy to ask employees for help. They all seem like they like their job and each other--and us. Nice "local" feel with pronoun-labeling tags for those who wanted them. Happy to support this place. read more

I rated this place 5 stars about 2 years ago and have to say this place has stayed consistent: very welcoming atmosphere, great customer service and 'how can I help' attitude! I walked in looking for a more natural flea control option for my 2 pets as their monthly treatment doesn't seem to be enough - itchy/scratchy dogs, raw areas and a lot of licking and chewing so off to the pest control aisle Arielle quickly offered assistance. Extremely friendly and knowledgable of the products offered and the pros and cons...I could've talked 'pet talk' with her for hours! She mentioned 10 other people came in before me with the same issue which was somewhat of a relief. i can tell Arielle loves her job and helping people! I know I'm gushing but seriously she was awesome and really took her time which is greatly appreciated! I did end up with a bunch of natural flea control from spray, bedding powder, hot spot treatment and suggested I get a cone or 'doggie onesie' to prevent the pups from licking...ohhhh my dog ain't gonna have that! Love having a pet store so close to home that the pup and I can walk a few blocks to. Clean store! I always see plenty of parking in their lot in case I needed to drive. I buy Blue Wilderness and the selection was small- but had what I came for! With it being so much fewer than other stores for Blue, I worry they'd run out... we'll see! Super nice gal named Alex helped me and asked about petting my wolf. Sadly, my girl is a mean one with others (there is a bubble around her you simply cannot reach into) and Alex was funny and understanding about it! I typically go every Wednesday on my days off. However, it pains me to say that there have been numerous occasions I've come in and heard what I presume to be the manager being very rude and disrespectful to the employees. I believe her name is Karen but I've seen her without a name tag sometimes so im not sure. The way she talks is very belittling and patronizing, as a customer it makes the environment very awkward. My dog and I love it here! She is always greeted with such friendly employees who give her pets and treats. This store always has what I need and their employees always give great tips and advice. The self wash stations are always impeccably clean (unlike other pet food express locations in the area) so I always feel comfortable bringing her in without fear of something unsanitary. I like to try out different branch of Pet Food Express in town, by far as compared to the branch in Albany, CA and the already closed University Avenue branch, I have to say this is the most disgusting pet self washing section I have ever been. Check out my attached photos. I am not talking about late day wash but early morning around 10ish. Out of 4 bath sections, one is broken and the other three have this mold around the tile corner and dog hairs everywhere. While I was using the nozzle, no shampoo but water coming out from the nozzle. Mind you I was not the only one who complained. Turn out the next customer who brought in his dog complained too. Self washing pet station! So I usually wag Jade Marie at the house but today the carriers got cleaned and we needed to be out and about for some hours. Idk why the first place I thought of was the pet store to give her one of those baths there. I always said I was. And today, we did. Paid $15 for the wash, got the token and towels at the register. We went to the bath room. You're able to attach your dog to the many tie outs so you can get stuff situated. They have shampoo options too. Including flea shampoo. The directions are very simple when it comes to using this machine. It's just like the self service car wash. Even after I washed and rinsed her, there was a blow dryer to dry my baby..on cool air. The wash lasts for a very long time on each setting, so when your done washing and letting the shampoo sit in the coat, turn the switch to rinse. I washed her for a very long time and it was still going. You probably would be able to wash two dogs in one tub for the 15 and there would be enough soap and water to go around read more

I love their "Self-Service Dog Wash". It's a bit pricey; $15 each or 4 for $11.25 each, but I think it's totally worth it. My dog is fluffy which creates two major issues. Drying her up takes long time with human hair dryer, and she sheds a lot hence creating a mess. With this dog wash, my headaches are forever gone! Each session is 25 minutes, so you need to plan and execute a course of action. read more

They know when brands are recalled, why things can't get back in stock (i.e. canning issues with Taste of the Wild cat food), how brands differ from each other, why some toys would be a better fit for your pet. They know their stuff! It's a smaller store compared to other locations, but it's well stocked with plenty of inventory to choose from. Pet Food Express has been my go-to for food and supplies for my two kitties for about 3 years now. I love the variety of healthy foods (I do not shop for mainstream grocery store pet food brands), both wet and dry, and they typically have all of the supplies that I need (the Feline Pine litter is amazing). Employees are always friendly, chatty, and make great suggestions for products. I love the Buy 3 Get 1 free deal on all wet food, it really helps keep the cost down. I will continue to come here for my pet needs. The only suggestion I have (and why not 5 stars) is that they don't carry any vegetarian food (dry and wet) brands for cats. Now that my kitties are transitioning to a primarily vegetarian diet, it would be helpful to have at least some of these foods available here (as I know the demand for these will grow in the near future). For now I am ordering all of their dry kibble online at specialty stores (Ami and Evolution Max Life) and will eventually transition their wet food as well (at least some of it).
