Willie had not been able to come in for three weeks since hurting his paw. It was my birthday and I was hesitant to leave Willie there out of concern of re-injury. I dropped him off Sunday and Elena said she would keep an eye on him and let me know if there were issues. That relieved me to go have fun at a baseball game. I really appreciate her willingness to do that. Great employee. I want to thank all the staff members who take such good care of Willie while I am there. Thanks to Liz and Wilmer. Amazing doggie daycare. So convenient and they really love the pups :) The only reason we aren't there anymore is we had to move. Why they are great 1. Great hours. Some places close at 7 and getting back to Oakland from the city by 7 can be tight. 2. Super efficient drop off / pickup. I never really had to spend more than 2 mins picking up / dropping off 3. They have a little curb side drop off parking zone so you don't have to worry about parking 4. Their Instagram is great for following the dog action 5. For those with that package you don't even really need to warn them if the dog needs to stay overnight. They just handle it and charge you. So great! read more

I boarded my cat there for 3 days and they barely gave him any food. He's a large young male and very food focused. They claim to offer feeding up to 3 times a day and ask you to be specific about what you want your pet fed when. So my instructions were to give him 1 can in the AM, 1/2 can in the middle of the day, and in the evening to give him 1 can plus an individually-bagged portion of dry food medley to be thrown out and replaced the next day if he hadn't finished it. I gave them 6 cans of wet food and 2 bagged portions of dry medley. I.e. The exact amount required for that duration. They gave me back 4 cans of wet food, and a portion plus a little bit in the other portion bag of dry food! Starving my cat could not have been helpful in reducing his stress levels at being boarded. During the 3 days he was there, he was only fed wet food twice! Wet food is his primary nourishment. I'm feel terrible for making him stay there! Never Again! read more

People can set whatever rules they want for their business. I understand that. But they rejected my cat for boarding just because she is over 12 years old. She is perfectly healthy! I suggest that they post that information clearly on their website, so people like me with cats over 12 years of age do not waste their time corresponding with them! Went to Just Pet Me for a first visit to check out the daycare. I took my 10-11 week old puppy with me and two women greeted us when we got there. When they met my pup they were really excited, took her from me and just started gushing. She's pretty cute so that's a very normal reaction. What I didn't expect was one of the women, with no word or any indication of what she was doing, to start walking away with my pup to the door leading back, literally said nothing about what she was doing, just walked to the door. I had to stop her to find out what was going on. She says she's going to take my 11-week old puppy (without me) to see how she is with other dogs. Ok, but can you not just disappear into the unknown back room without telling me? I would expect professionals to have basic courtesy and ask for permission or give me some clue as to what's going on before walking away with my dog. read more

This was a new experience for my little dog (from Korea) and for me. I took him in for the day, and he seemed fine when I left him. I called to check on him at 11 and the girl on the phone said he had started off shy but had started to loosen up and sniff the other dogs. Tonight was a whole other story. When I picked him up at 6, the woman didn't take me aside and say..."You know I'm so sorry, but your dog was afraid, and nipped at us, so I don't think it will work out." Instead, she came to the gate with the dog behind her and announced in front of another customer: "He won't let me leash him! He nipped at us when we tried! And he can't come back!" There was no goodbye, no I'm sorry it didn't work out, nothing. She just went onto the next customer. The door could have hit me on the way out! I just wish someone had called me during the day if there had been a problem. And I certainly apologize if he nipped at anyone. By the way, Just Pet Me...I rescued my dog just before my husband got sick with terminal cancer. He died last June, my Dad died in January, and we just put Mom in hospice a few months ago. Try being more sensitive. You never know what other people are going through. read more

We adopted a beagle mix in October of last year and he has isolation distress (must be around a human). JPM has been instrumental in us having a successful adoption. I don't know how we would have managed our Bento's transition into his new home without JPM. Just Pet Me offers the best value that I have found in Oakland. Their packages give you options which I really appreciate and they don't expire (like many other places). They also are open for pick-ups until 9pm with no extra charge!!! They pet your dog, without charging you, as some places do not (those places have cameras-trust me, I have watched). Drop-off is super easy, pull up in front (white curb space enough for 3 cars) and hand the leash over to the other human when the door opens. Pick-up is usually busier, sometimes there are a few pick-ups ahead of you and you wait your turn (like any place with a line). Our dog is a wild beast when he emerges into the lobby for pick-up and it's a side of him we see nowhere else. He's just pumped to go home and super excited after a day of playing with his friends. He's also exhausted, which is great for us. Like many people noted in other reviews, our dog also gulps a bowl of water upon arrival home. I know water bowls are available in the play area (I've seen it on IG) and they have that fountain. I think some dogs, like ours, are too excited and don't drink water. I do wish all of the nap time areas had water too so when they relaxed they might drink water. The staff really care about the dogs and are obviously all dog people. JPM's culture is one that lets dogs be dogs and I appreciate that. They have always been friendly towards us and helpful when questions arise. I love that they post on Instagram so you get a lens into JPM as JPM does not have cameras like some other places. When we first started going (I believe in October) there was a urine smell, but this has improved tremendously. There is a dog smell, as one should expect, given that they care for dogs and a rare occurrence of urine odor. Again, they care for dogs. They are great by email and definitely more of a phone call type place. It would be nice if they had a page on their website or photo wall so you could easily identify the staff :) We are so thankful for this place and it's super convenient location. Just Pet Me is truly a blessing to me and cares for my chihuahua like he is a part of their family. I brought my puppy here in the middle of COVID because I had to go to work. He was a tiny little boy at that time about 2 pounds. What I noticed on the first day is every dog that was dropped off ran from their owner to get inside. It was so obvious that every single dog was excited to go play. Not one was scared or afraid. My pup was placed in the puppy room and has grown up at Just Pet Me. I have been at Just Pet Me for over a year and I LOVE THEM because my dog LOVES them. He is now a whopping 10 pounds. I have an intense job and sometimes I need to work on weekends. Just Pet Me is open everyday for drop off. I can always bring him in on the weekends. He is playing all day long. If I work late, they will always say "I fed him dinner for you" when I pick him up. If I have a big project, I can board him overnight and he is right at home because he knows the staff and the facility. Just Pet Me does not have cameras or an app and that is a deal breaker for some. But my precious pup LOVES going to daycare so I do not need a camera. The cost for unlimited monthly daycare is reasonable and worth it. I never have to worry "oh i need to run home and let him out." He is always playing with a bunch of dogs. He loves it. I am sorry to have to give this unsatisfactory review. My canine is 14 years old and I never had to put my dog in dog care. MY daughter always cared for my dog when I had to be away, now that her career has taken off I had to seek other resource. My cruise is this Friday. I spoke with a representative about 3 weeks ago and mentioned the age of my dog and she instantly shut me down and said no she would not adapt here. I was like how do you know, my dog has been through dog training, walks without a leash and not run off, pad and paper trained and is good with dog commands, she then says okay lets set her up for an assessment. Fill out an application a day before the asssessment. No other instruction, no well we do not accept this, or you should read this, nothing. I fill out the application today and I state that yes my dog has a heart murmer has had it for three years with no medication needed per her doctor because all blood work is good and ultra sound. I get a call today on my voicemail we cannot take dogs with hear conditions. Wow... well I am glad I got back up because I knew this was going to happen because of how the first correspondence went. I only chose this place because it is close to my home and my daughters job if she needed to urgently get her. I love JPM, my senior dog has been coming here for 4 years and I'm convinced that it's helped keep her young. Instead of sitting home alone all day while I'm at work (and getting depressed), she gets to be with a pack - I believe this is super important for dogs as they're pack animals. She's also blind but can navigate easily here as it's kind of her second home. Because of her blindness it's also the only place I can really trust when I need to board her. The staff here love her and take great care of her. She's had accidents during nap time where she's peed on herself (old lady issues), and the staff will give her baths when she's done this. I've seen comments re; pricing, urine smell, etc. Re; the prices: check other daycares and they're the same pricing (if not more). To me, it's worth it to not have to worry about my dog while I'm at work and to keep her mentally stimulated. When I pick her up at the end of the day, she's so happy and energetic, it's like she's aged backwards! This is of course a personal choice, but if you've decided to take your dog to daycare, keep in mind it's not cheap. Cheaper than human day care though! Re; the smell: it's a bunch of dogs, what can you expect? That is what they do. JPM does seem to have made more of an effort to clean up the smell in the lobby though I've noticed lately. The empty containers in the lobby are dog's containers that their humans need to pick-up. You can't blame this on JPM - blame it on the dog owners that aren't taking them home. The back of JPM is awesome - they have a small dog room (which is HUGE) and also the bigger / more energetic dog room (also huge warehouse type space) which has the outside access with fake grass. The nap room (where they also sleep when they're being boarded) is really cool - they have little rooms with beds (and heated) for them to sleep in! They also have a separate room where they will put dogs that are maybe not feeling well or have an injury they're recovering from or are very anxious - I've also requested my dog go into this room if she has something she needs recover from where it's better she be more isolated. There's only 2 things they could improve on: 1. I wish they would have is cameras so the owners can see their dogs - BUT, this may be a good thing as I would probably spend too much time on it! 2. Also, I wish they would get their in house groomer back - I love the work she does on my dog, but she's now based in Concord only, which means she will pickup my dog and bring her back to JPM but sometimes she comes back too late, and also I would prefer she groom her at JPM in Oakland. I am super protective of my dog especially since she's blind and old but I trust them 100% with her. All in all, I would highly recommend JPM. read more

Sir Sweet Pea, the pug, loves going to Just Pet Me (approx twice a week for the last year and a half). He starts whining and hopping around in his seat a block away. I forcefully tell him to settle down and he ignores me. On arrival, he is out the car like a rocket running for the front door. If he had hands, he would open the door before the car stops moving. Thankfully, he does not have hands. The prices are reasonable and the hours are spectacular - 6AM - 9PM. Great location and you can drop off your dog curbside. The staff is really impressive - very caring and customer focused. They love Sweet Pea - he was dog of the week in April 2014. Sweet Pea adores one of the managers, Sara, possibly more than his Mommy but loves the rest of the staff in a more reasonable fashion. I have to give a special shout out to Jay - who is so animated when he describes Sweet Pea's antics during that day when I pick him up. I could give a sweet anecdote about 4 other staff members but I do not know their names. On my list to remedy. I wish small/ medium dogs were segregated into a different area from the large dogs. There has never been a problem I would prefer it as long as his best friend Ringo qualifies as a medium dog. I have to travel and I have not a worry that Sweet Pea will have a great time and be safe. It does break my heart a bit when I pick him up after a trip. He is happy to see me for 15 seconds but as we are leaving, his soulful eyes get misty and he looks back wistfully at the staff telegraphing that parting is such sweet sorrow. I spoke with a couple of people picking up their dogs and they seemed happy with the place so I decided to use the place despite some red flags, too many dogs, extremely smelly and lack of personalized care. I am giving 2 stars because my dog is still alive and seemed only slightly traumatized. I knew I would have to bathe him when I picked him up but was unprepared that he would have such a strong stench of urine and feces. There was a lack of caring and personal interaction with me or my dog. I got the sense they just take in as many dogs as they can and rushed them out. He also returned with a bad cough. I have no idea if these places are regulated but they need to be investigated. It was just gross and lacked any caring. Don't use this place for their hotel which is worse than most shelters read more

I'm updating my review to 5 stars. JPM has been great for my dogs and they love going there now. Staff are always welcoming in the morning for drop-off. Sara gives us a little update on who they met or played with. Our dogs love her. Thankfully they redesigned their website and now it does work on an iPhone. They have also been posting photos to Facebook so you can see all the dogs playing and see that they look happy and the play area is kept very clean. Most of all, taking our dogs there has been great for their social behavior. One dog was a rescue and her puppy was super shy. Now she is much more social and not so fearful of people and other dogs. I am borderline neurotic when it comes to my dog. I haven't gone on vacation since I got him. I interviewed and visited numerous day care and in-home boarding companies and never felt comfortable with any of them. Then I found JPM! They are fantastic! The facilities are clean and safe. The main outdoor courtyard where the pups play has a rubber floor like the kid's playgrounds. Trees and grass border it and there are fun, strings of lights overhead for nighttime play. Someone is with the dogs 24 hours a day. They carefully screen new clients and never take aggressive dogs. They have the best rates in the East Bay and San Francisco. They offer lots of options. 3 hour visits, day visits and overnight stays as well. They also have grooming, training and other services available. Even if you live in SF, this place is worth the drive to leave your pup for vacation. They board cats as well, not that cats really need humans... Anyway! Check it out! read more

I am late in writing this review- I had previously brought my dog here several times (both overnight and doggy daycare) without major issue. He always comes home insanely tired and sleeps for days, however I always suspected they didn't provide enough water since my dog would come home and drink several bowls of water after every visit. Well, the last time I brought our dog here was for a two-night stay. When we picked him up his voice was literally just gone- GONE. And my dog is insanely vocal, it's the first thing people notice about him. He announces himself and is constantly seeking attention through wines, barks, and various noises. I didn't notice his voice was gone until we got home but was very VERY concerned that no one called or mentioned this to us when we picked him up. How do they not notice that the LOUDEST dog in the group has literally stopped making a sound? Not only that- his voice was so shot that it took a full TWO WEEKS for it to return! My husband and I were so scared that he was permanently damaged. My best guess is that my dog was his usual vocal self and strained his voice due to lack of water. To me, this is completely unacceptable from a professional dog service. I will never bring my dog here again and would never recommend it to others. read more

The blanket that I left for her also smell like pee and it stink up my car for days. We took our dog here for pet boarding over thanksgiving while we went down to southern California. The place smelled overwhelmingly like urine with sticky floors (IN THE LOBBY) and the front lobby looked like a person's messy home living room and not really professional. There were dog food bowls all over the front lobby coffee table with labels and food bags opened. It just seemed like all of their stuff was unorganized with the dogs and not really like they had designated areas for things. I was skeptical of my dog's food being shared with others (as it's very expensive) as well as my dog getting sick by not being fed her own food without proper transition into it. When we picked her up she smelled so bad! Almost like her whole fur coat was covered in urine. It seemed as though they just let their dogs pee everywhere and didn't clean it up, as well as let other dogs go and play in the pee areas. She was also very dehydrated. I will not be taking my dog back. She needs better supervision and definitely to be fed proper amounts of water! read more

My 4-year old shepherd mix loves going to daycare here! All the staff are friendly/professional to me, always telling me some story about my dog when we pick her up. We have never had any issues with billing. JPM is also reasonably priced, I buy the 10 day package and it comes out to $30/day. Some of the reviews are negative, stating that JPM told them their dog did not do well. Umm...that means they are being honest that your dog is really not happy there and they do not want your dog to be miserable all day! Some dogs do not do well in a day care surrounding, JPM can have up to 100 dogs a day. JPM has been great for my dog and I would definitely recommend them. read more

Let me start by saying, my dog is under-socialized and a stupid player. We brought him here on the recommendation of our trainer (who we are seeing for leash reactivity issues) thinking that off-leash play and socialization would help with his over-excitement when seeing other dogs on walks. We had our assessment with Ruby, who was very sweet and told us she felt there was not a single drop of aggression in our dog, just lots of pent up energy and a lack of experience playing off-leash. We understood that it might not work out and unfortunately, it has not. Apparently our dog and another didn't like each other for whatever reason. It happens, just like not all people like each other. Ruby was very good to keep me updated on his progress and I was told he was doing well with all except this one dog. In our third week of daycare, there was an incident between these two which resulted in my dog being bit clear through his ear, requiring anesthesia, stitches and a completely ridiculous bandage. In the midst of all this, I feel like I never really got the full story of what happened. Originally I was told that my dog was being kind of a butt head that day and was being muzzled periodically throughout the day. I talked to Ruby at lunch time and asked that she just crate him for the rest of the day until I could pick him up from work. She insisted that she couldn't do that because he needed to "drink water and go potty." I assured her that he would be fine and that if he didn't drink water, he wouldn't need to potty. But, unfortunately, she still did not do as I asked. I then got a call at about 4:30 saying he had had a scuffle with the same dog from before and that he had gotten bit on his ear. She informed me they had "treated" it and that the bleeding had pretty much stopped. WHAT?! He shouldn't have been anywhere that he could have possibly been bit! As I understood it that night, the way things happened was that my dog was in the group (muzzled) with the other dog (not muzzled) and that is when it happened. When I picked him up, his ear WAS still bleeding (dripping, in fact) and needed to be wrapped, which they had no wrap or bandage materials. Luckily I work for a vet and had the mind to grab some wrap on my way out the door an take it with me. I attempted to discuss further what happened with the two women who were there, but they spoke little English and I could not get any information from them. They just kept saying, "Talk to Ruby", who was not even there when the whole thing happened anyway. The next day, I did talk to Ruby and got an entirely different account of what happened. Now I am told he was in a "holding area" and pushed a gate open by himself and went in where the other dog was. I don't really know what to believe. Either way, if he had been crated like I asked, this would not have happened. If he was being watched properly, this would not have happened. I know this place is new and actually know a couple of people that use them as well, but I don't feel they have the experience to handle certain dogs with certain issues. I can't give them one star because there is no doubt that my dog is partly at fault here. But I also cannot give a great rating either. By the way, they are at least refunding my money for the unused portion of the pre-paid package I bought. I'm really bummed it didn't work out and hope no one else has the same experience. read more

They were both terribly upset when we picked them up, and one drank water for a half-hour straight when she got home. I've been looking for a place for my 4 month old puppy to go for socialization and playtime when I'm busy with work. I filled out an online assessment request and never heard back, so after a week I called to arrange a visit/assessment - okay make me work to give you my money! Greeter seemed nice and went through her plan to assess my puppy, however I didn't get an opportunity to see the facility prior to my dog being taken, which would have been nice. So here's where the 1 star comes from - yes, my puppy is young and yes my puppy can be shy and overwhelmed when around rambunctious puppies and dogs - all disclosed by me prior to the assessment. But, she has been around other dogs, with and without me, and it's always worked out fine when she has a human to help her get acclimated. So, to come back and tell me how poorly she did and that she was "terrified cowered in the corner and literally peed herself twice" makes me wonder what the heck was going on back there! When I started asking questions I received a bit of a defensive tude and how it wasn't a fit for my dog. The conversation ended without so much as any advice around what I could do to work on it and maybe coming back later for another assessment. Seems only dogs that can fend for themselves are a fit. Sort of made me feel like I was being told sorry you can't join our club see ya. Ok - I won't put any more effort into giving you my money. Message heard. read more

I've been bringing my rambunctious pit-mix to Just Pet Me, for daycare, for a little one a year now. I have been very pleased with JPM. Just Pet Me's staff are kind, funny and attentive to your and your pets needs. Their facilities appear clean, spacious and safe. Everyone who works there seems to love their job, and it shows. I feel confident taking my dog here for daycare, knowing he will have active, supervised playtime, as well as all the meals and rest he needs. I love Just Pet Me. But more importantly, my dog loves Just Pet Me! He's always eager and excited to be dropped off at their door in the morning, where the staff knows him. He's also got his little dog buddies there, who he looks forward to playtime with. All dogs at at JPM daycare and hotel must go through screening process before they are "admitted", so you have some level of assurance that there are no aggressive or dangerous dogs there. (knock on wood) We haven't had any major problems with him being injured from other dogs. An occasional bump or scratch here and there happens, but I don't fault JPM for this. Dogs play rough sometimes. I highly recommend JPM to anyone looking for a daily dog day care for their pup. read more

I am representing the minority user here with the kitty boarding. During the holidays, we were out of state with family and felt dubious about leaving Kahlo (our calico) alone for three weeks. Facility is clean, drop off and pick up are relatively easy, cat seemed plump and content (for a cat) from her stay. Thank goodness for the staff here- they answered all my neurotic questions, sent me photos of the spaces, and made the process extremely easy for us. I did dock one star simply from the Saturday pick up times, but this might be due to my own exhaustion of waiting around to get the cat after a long drive from Seattle. read more

I had already signed up Elle for school luckily these ladies were there to help me through the process. Elle loves her time here. I have a demanding job which requires a lot of travel. They are the Best of the Best. This is Elle's home away from home. She has many friends and the girls tell me that she is the welcoming wagon for all new comers. Ruby has done all her training. It is clean, safe and will help your pet to be a well adjusted party animal. I am a firm believer that a pet is a part of the family and they should not be alone. This is the place it totally rocks! Madison our French Bulldog really loves it here. We take her for boarding and day care usually two times a week and she comes home so happy and tired. Everyone there seems to genuinely loves all the dogs. They do a really great job of feeding her during the day and pickup is such a breeze out front. Really happy to have found JPM. read more

I MISS this place so much! They are absolutely fantastic with the dogs. While the location is a bit questionable sometimes, drop off/pick up is usually very quick and my dog is TIRED. The only complaint I have is that sometimes my dog comes back smelling like cigarettes. I'm not sure if the staff smokes, or if its from nearby. Nonetheless, have never had an issue, and my dog is 100% worn out just after a day here - a big deal for a 3 year old Doberman! read more

I have been meaning to Yelp about Just Pet Me for a long time. Our dog Monk absolutely loves his days there. He is a nervous little terrier and he loves playing all day! The staff is really wonderful. From drop off to pick up I have been so impressed with the personal care he gets. And we get a report of what he did and who he played with. They are very conscientious about shots being up to date which I appreciate and they let us know if Monk had any problems. I think they are a really wonderful daycare and highly recommend them! read more

My dogs love Just Pet Me doggy daycare. We drop them off when it opens bright and early - they are excited to get in and play all day. Then when my boyfriend and I pick them up, they are excited to see us and then knock out in the car and at home after a long day of playing all day The staff is great and the staff always give me updates about how my dogs are doing when I pick them up. I would recommend Just Pet Me for doggy daycare since I have not left my dogs with Just Pet Me overnight boarding but would consider if I had to since the staff are great at giving me updates about my dogs. read more

We loved this place and brought our dog there many times for boarding over the past year, however that ended after the last time we boarded him. We boarded our dog for a few days and when we got him home we noticed he had a scratch on the top of his scalp and a sizable gash under his neck. Once we discovered this, we called Just Pet Me and spoke with the staff and the woman on the phone offered no explanation or support. I asked, "what happened? How did he get injured?" And she replied, I don't know. I trusted Just Pet Me to care for our furbaby and I can't in good conscious bring him back since there's zero accountability. I would've come in person and followed up but I was in my third trimester of pregnancy and sick so didn't have the time/energy. Decided to go elsewhere instead which sucks because we literally live a few blocks away. Also, they charged us twice and he was supposed to have been bathed but when we picked him up he smelled like urine. I hope they get better systems in place to ensure our pets are safe and free from injury. Perhaps cameras? read more

My MaltiPoo Lada and I love this place. I have been bringing Lada to Just Pet Me daycare for the past several months. Every time, I could see how happy Lada is and how much she likes all the people who work there. I left Lada at Just Pet Me for the Thanksgiving week and it worked out very well. Ruby knew that this was the first time I left Lada for the entire week and was very understanding. Ruby even emailed to me a video clip of my Lada. I picked up a very happy and clean dog when I came back from my vacation. This morning I took Lada back to Just Pet Me daycare and as soon as Lada saw Ruby, she went running straight to her.
