I go once a month to use the pet wash. Generally there's no line, the pet wash area is clean and the plumbing works. Vet was Rude/unprofessional. Went to take my dog for his shots and I wanted to record a bit obviously without getting the workers faces etc. There are no signs saying no Cameras or photography. The Vet stops me and says "No pictures please" which is fine I stopped respectfully but she added "I mean I don't go to your job and take pictures of you" (with a sassy tone) she didn't need to add that totally killed my mood. Why would I want a picture of her? Mind you I work at a Mexican restaurant where there's pics of me posted on yelp without my knowledge. I came to the store and bought a bag of Purina Pro Plan 30/20 with the new puppy that I am training for Police and sport to be donated to the city of Oakland. i was working on environmental and search meaning, puppy searching and getting between shelves during his search. not even 6 min. I was asked by Kayla the store manager she said.She asked me to leave because of liability of being injured, they have their own dog trainers and they don't allow other trainers in the facility. it seems to me that other trainers also, buy items and food in the Petco network and for this person to say, they have their own trainers and they don't allow other trainer. it is pretty bad. also, may be being a Hispanic did not help either and she was being racist?? We were looking for a specific treat and the gal we asked really tried to assist. She even googled kidney disease. The place was very clean and didn't smell of dog and we didn't have to avoid any puddles. I did read every treat package and found the best two. I recommend this place. I'm giving this store one star because it sells product that are unsafe for dogs and landed my big dog at the vet in critical condition. After looking into it, I found that PetCo has been aware of the dangers of Good Lovin's smoked bones since 2015 and continues to sell them. Cooked bones are brittle and extremely dangerous for dogs to chew...why would a pet supply store even have them on shelves?! We were on our way to Proposition Chicken when we saw Unleashed. We're running low in supply of "poopie" bags. We usually purchase these bags from the Unleashed store at Alameda Landing. Since we're in the neighborhood, a visit here was necessary. Gentleman behind the counter asked if I needed any assistance. I replied, yes and guide me to the aisle or section where the "poopie" bags are. He was courteous and friendly. He located them. Good! I grabbed a pack of them off the rack and paid for it. I thought I was ready to leave after the purchase. I figure get the one item, buy and pay for it, then head out the door. Nope. My husband was still in the back of the store. When he arrived at the counter, he had a bag of doggie treats and a chew bone in his hands. Hmmm...more money being spent. (Here I thought I buy things on an impulse. Sheesh! LOL!) Steph is a phenomenal puppy trainer! Our pup Moxie really loves her and picked up on all the tasks very quickly. The training was also great for us humans. Moxie is now excellent on leash, approaching other dogs, and her recall is fantastic. Steph also gives out helpful advice and remembers Moxie every time she comes in which just makes her day. We signed up for "Puppy Level 1", which really laid the necessary groundwork for our dog: sit, down, stay, come, etc. Each class lasts an hour and the course lasts 6 weeks. But while there can be appeal & concern at the same time for a dog training class that's, well, cheap, rest assured you will get the best possible trainer: Steph! She's the most down-to-earth, approachable & knowledgeable dog trainer that you'll have the pleasure of working with. She always pushed our corgi to the max, but always through positive enforcement. Because of her, we signed up for "Adult Level 1" as well. Been here 4 times already, so I got a pretty good idea of the items they have here along with the employees. I am happy they have Merricks, since Pet Food Express doesn't and the Petco closest to me is deep in Alameda at Southshore. The biggest problem I have with this store might be the lack of parking on Lakeshore, $2 and hour is pricey to say the least. Otherwise I love the treat bar they have to offer just like the regular Petco does, since my dogs are obsessed with the vanilla cookies. However they offer an array of chewing toys along with treats that seem exclusive to Pet Food Express. The layout is also pretty nice, rather than mixing can food and kibbles together by brand, all of the can food is located on the shelves to the left of the store. Customer service has been great! Always greeted by at least one employee in the store, and someone has always offered to help and/or answer questions. Second or third time at this store having a super aggravating experience with the same workers. First and foremost, everything is wildly overpriced here. They're charging $25 for 3lb bags of dry food that cost like $8 on Amazon and elsewhere. The only reason I go in is when my delivery is taking too long and my cats are low on food. Today I went in, picked out my cat food and it was rwent to check out. The cashier was playing with a puppy and didn't seem to notice I was there. When she finally did she asked me to input my phone number and while I did this, her coworker came up. The two of them started socializing about something the puppy had done while I stood there waiting for her to ring me up. She stopped for a second to ring me up and then kept talking to her coworker while I tried to pay. I say tried because the card terminal said "wait for cashier" I almost laughed out loud at this because it felt like that's the only thing I'd been doing since I got there. I waited looking at both of them for 2-3 minutes while she continued to ignore me and talk. Finally she turned around and goes "oh yeah oops! Haha!" And presses a button allowing me to pay. I tap my card and it once again says "wait for cashier" and once again, she just stands there ignoring me and the woman behind me in line until I cleared my throat and looked at her like... "are you gonna finish this?" She then presses something else after and asks if I want a receipt I said no and gathered my things. Then instead of immediately focusing on the next customer, she just starts chatting with the coworker again completely ignoring the next customer. I'm fine with socializing at work but this was absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous. It took like 8 minutes from start to finish to buy three small items in a transaction that should have taken 2 max. Do better, this is not how you should treat customers. read more

Generally speaking, we work like dogs and my dog lives like a king, and this little king really loves to go shopping at unleashed. People working here are super nice. They love my dog and always give him lots of compliments, and my dog would wag his tail so much and act so spoiled and forget about what his last name was. He loves the self wash here. I think I had the same experience as Gail. I came in earlier and had a great chat with the sales person (the morning guy) and came back later with my dog so I could wash him in the self serve area. I noticed a 20 something woman who did not greet me, so I asked where the other person was and she said he was gone for the day. She didn't ask me if she could help or not. I said, I want to wash my dog, she pointed to the self-serve area. I said, I've never been here, can you show me. She walked me over and pointed and left? I said, "EXCUSE ME, BUT I DO NEED YOUR HELP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!" She then, pointed to where things where and how to attach the grooming collar etc. Maybe this young woman is awesome with pets, but she really is pretty lame when it comes to humans. I typically avoid buying in retail stores these days because better deals are to be had online and also because the retail customer experience has gotten terrible. I needed something for my pup in a jiffy though. My pup had a wound on his foot and was licking it so I had to go buy a cone of shame. Darrel allowed me to try on the different options for my little buddy. He also volunteered to help me clip my pup's black nails when I told him the groomer I had taken him to last didn't do a very good job. A lot of groomers are scared to cut black nails well because they claim it's difficult to see the quick. Darrel did with such ease and patience! What a dear! Wow this was my first time using the service unleashed it was so good and the price was unbelievable (PUN) intended... my dog is very old and not too friendly with other animals they gave me the entire washing area all to ourselves for almost an hour well 48 minutes they gave all the brushes and soap and towels. The wash area was low which was good for the old dog and the old man. The price was again awesome and it was not timed. In short if you use unleashed you will not be unhappy...! We recently adopted an 11 month dog and upon meeting Steph, we immediately signed her up for the Adult Dog Complete Package (which includes 3 6-week courses and ends with earning Canine Good Citizenship--it's a GREAT deal!) Steph is an amazing trainer who clearly loves her job. Dogs go nuts for Steph and it's easy to see why. She is patient, effective, and loves all dogs. Our dog loved Steph so much, she would basically drag us down the street to get to training class. Steph's positive dog training techniques are also super effective. Our dog quickly took to the positive reinforcements and has learned to love doing all her tricks and obedience training skills with great recall. If there were more classes we could take with Steph, we would absolutely do it. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, very effective training class for your dog Steph is the way to go!! read more

If i could give it NO STARS I would. Went to get my dogs some food from this store on lakeshore. I usually don't stop by this store but really didn't have any other option. So I started to shop. Grabbed a basket and looked over the entire store. Not only was I watched as if I was stealing once I actually did make a purchase I asked " Can I leave this here and bring my car up ?" I guess no one heard me. So I stopped and looked around. This lady that supposedly is the manager says "Huh". So I said " Can I leave this here and pull my car up ?" She proceeded to say I could. I started to walk out the door and the lady Chanel "suppose to be manager" says to the other worker standing next to her "she didn't have to say it with a attitude!" I guess she thought I didn't hear her. She is so unprofessional and shouldn't be a manager if she feels like people asking her a question is rude. I came back in the store and said I didn't say it rude I had to repeat myself so I said it a little louder. We proceeded to argue literally go back and forth about how the conversation should have went. She tells me "you wasn't my customer so you couldn't have been talking to me." I told her it's three of y'all up here and if y'all not gone help the customer why sit up here while I'm checking out. I won't be going back to this store unless it's a emergency. It's crazy cuz I spent $140 in this store at the time of the purchase. This is my go to spot for all things pet. I have 2 dogs and their selection is great! However, this review is mostly to being written to rave about the quality of their adult dog classes, which I took my 1.5 year old taco terrier to. From the very first class, it was clear Steph is exceptional with dogs; she has a strategy for everything. In the first level we covered a variety of commands, and in a group of three dogs Steph somehow managed to give plenty of individual attention to the needs of each owner while teaching. She's really amazing and I highly recommend signing up if you're on the fence! Our little pup learned a bunch with the positive reinforcement methods she taught us. I really like it here! I'm a frequent customer and Nikita is probably one of my favorite employees, next to the guy with the beard (I can't remember his name right now, but he's like the only guy with a beard there). They are both very friendly and remember me, and my dogs! And they're always showing me new deals and things they'd think I like. I've only met the manager once, and she wasn't the nicest. Though she was okay at the transaction, she ignored me multiple times when I was attempting to make small talk with her, and even walked away once when I asked how she was doing. Maybe the other employees just set such a high standard for me and this is normal behavior? Or maybe she was just having a bad day. I'm not sure. Either way, I still try my best to only come when Nikita and the beard guy are working. They're my faves. read more
