We had such a great experience with the staff, they knew so much about each kitty, the adoption fee was much cheaper than I expected and they we're already spayed/neutered and given shots which would have cost me more than the fee itself! I think that Pet Haven does a wonderful job. In my experience they handled my stray kitties very well. Its my personal pets that leave me a little soured. They did a excellent job at spaying my stray female kitties I took them home and put them outside and they seemed ok. My personal female cat was so drugged and out of it I had to hold her for 10 hours until she started to recover. I had a old stray euthanized because he was really sick and in bad shape and it seemed ok because I didn't stay. When I took my personal old male kitty in because of his kidney failure it was terrible. Just a old exam room very bleak no comfort in this tragic time. So I don't recommend them for your personal pets, go see your vet. But if you have stray or ferals they do great. read more

I adopted a kitty there. They told me that she doesn't really like people, or other cats. I think it was just the stress of being in a different environment as soon as I opened her crate area and pet her she was purring and head butting my hand, meowing at me. I took her home, and she has been so happy, and so have I the staff offered me a chip for 15 bucks, I went ahead and had her chipped. They did a good job, I'm pretty sure she didn't even feel it good staff! The fact that they didn't think that she would be a good fit, because she seems so antisocial, but still let me get to know her has been a blessing to my life. Jeannette, who manages this place, could not be more dedicated to her job and could not be more helpful. She has been there for nearly ten years and, albeit not a veterinarian, she "knows her stuff" in this cats-only facility. Pet Haven, Nampa, also has a Thrift Store in Caldwell, which helps fund this enterprise. That facility is located at: 619 Main St, Caldwell, ID 83605. The Thrift Store revenue does not cover all the overhead and expense. So, donations are always welcomed. There is also a veterinarian from Boise who helps out in Nampa. She comes to Pet Haven in Nampa once a week, on Thursdays, to perform low-cost spaying and neutering. She is from the "Animal Health Hospital" on 8664 W. Overland, Boise, ID 83709. If you adopt a cat or kitten from Pet Haven, you can rest assured that it has been tested for kitty leukemia & kitty HIV, that it has been inoculated, that it has been dewormed, and that it has been spayed or neutered. The adoption fee for such a kitten is $50 (or two for $80). As to adult cats, it varies, but is usually around $35 to find a "forever home" for a grateful cat. The other fees are quite reasonable, to say the least. Jeannette can administer inoculations, take blood tests, and "install" an I.D. chip on your cat ($25 for a Pet-Link chip). If the cat is lost, you have a much higher chance of getting your beloved kitty back home, worth every penny. They adopt-out between 300 and 400 cats per year. Kittens are easily adopted and they will take those in, almost without question. They do their best, yet adult cats are more difficult to adopt-out and they simply are not able to take-in all adult cats that come-through-the-door. Try as they may, Pet Haven simply cannot find homes for ALL of them; it is nearly impossible What they WILL do with an adult cat is have it blood-tested, spayed/neutered, inoculated, de-wormed, and they will give it back to you for release. (If you take such a cat to the Humane Society, they will most-likely put-it-down; those are just the facts of life and death.) Stray, abandoned, and feral cats are a huge problem in the area. Many of them are diseased. Many of them have not been "fixed" and, so, there are more and more unwanted kittens all over the local counties. A neighbor and I are trying to deal with the large feral cat population in our Caldwell neighborhood. There are so many. So, one-by-one we will take-them-in to Pet Haven for testing, then make decisions, based upon the test results. Somebody's gotta do it. Pet Haven is part of the solution, not part of the problem. I have had limited experience with this or any shelter but I know they clip cats' nails for $5 total per cat. And teens ages 13+ can supposedly volunteer without an adult accompanying them. I've had good experiences the couple times I've been in there. One time was to verify the sex of a cat that was given to me sight unseen and claimed before receiving that it was a girl, but upon receipt was sure it was a boy, and it was (second-guessed myself cuz I had no pets for 20 years due to the assumed narcissist , don't ask please). Another time was to get a cat's nails clipped but I don't remember how I first heard about that service. I'll probably know more after my teen(s) start volunteering! :-) read more

Took my cat in to be euthanized. A very delicate situation as you could imagine. They brought us into a room and gave her the shot over a sink. There were no chairs to sit down and hold my cat or your beloved family member for the last few minutes with them. I believe they should make it more comfortable for both the animal and the owner. It was just a room with a counter and a sink. I understand they do this often but us pet owners do not. It's not a 'get it over with' situation for us. Got my cat neutered here, 6 days later he passed away. I followed every precaution possible for recovery and when I took him to the vet it was too late. Adopted a female cat who was supposedly "spayed." 2 1/2 months later she gave birth to 3 kittens... I would advise anyone and everyone to stay away from this shelter... read more

I volunteered there as a teen, and was saddened by the way some of the people acted to the pets. They weren't necessarily mean, but it seemed like they really just didn't care. It was sad too, because I wanted to volunteer to give the animals extra love and pet them, and most of the time, they kept me doing the dirty work. I was a VOLUNTEER, and my heart was to love the animals. They have paid employees to do the grunt work. I felt kind of explointed, and was disapointed. Back then, there was a lady who was one of the people in charge who told me that I made a difference when I sang and loved on an old abandoned cat who was depressed because it's owner died. It wasn't completely bad, but I feel like they could have tried harder to save some kittens, etc. They just were really mediocre, and I wouldn't ever bring a cat there, at least not to be adopted out. read more

I found a precious kitty in a open field that backs up to my new home , it was clearly wild and was set free there to fen for itself i sadly have two small dogs and a bird so couldn't take it in , so I went down to this place today and was treated like total dirt , the heavy set woman at the front desk was sooooo rude to me she said she would put the cat down and that's her only choice and in the state of idaho cats are i quote "Vermin" she ruined my entire day and made me feel guilty for trying to do the right thing this place does NOT care about animals at all this is just a job to this woman do not take any animal here to be treated or if found or lost - take them to the one across from the dmv they were nice there and you could tell they really cared ..
