With over 30 years of experience as a Physician Assistant (PA) I checked him out and found a hematoma in his left year. I told my wife that maybe he was stung by a wasp/hornet and we should put an ice pack against the hematoma. After about 24 hrs we called our primary vet but they didn't have any walk-in appointments for at least one week. She said that she was going to try Ada Veterinary. I reminded her of the negative/lack of ethics by by Brianna Malaki that we had with about 5 years ago. She said she didn't care as Rasta needed to be seen immediately. I drove her up but refused to enter the veterinary office. They said that Rasta broke his cartilage with caused bleeding enough to cause his left ear to drop. They gave him a "No Flap Ear Wrap" and charged her over $500.00 and said she needed to him Monday next week (No Flap Ear Wrap can be bought for $49 on Amazon). The wife brought him for another $200 and was told to bring him the following Monday (today). Had my appointment 12:45 pm went in and was led to an appointment room by Kyra. I informed her that this was Rasta third visit and being 10 y/o I didn't want a thing done to him. She said she understood and then grabbed Rasta and went to leave. I asked where she was going with him and she commented the vet wanted to him in "back". I reminded her that I didn't want any care. After about waiting 20 minutes I open the door and asked the secretary where Rasta was at. She said he was back with the veterinarian and they were discussing what needed to be down. I immediately got pissed and said I never gave my consent to have them do any treatment on him.. Before I knew it there five Vet Techs surrounding me and I repeated that I never gave them permission to do anything to Rasta that is one of that said that's how we do things!! I explained I was a PA are there are two types of consent; implied and given. I explained that he was awake and alert, so it could not be implied. I told the to get Rasta and the told me that had to figure out my bill. I grabbed Brenda Malick's business out of that card holder and said she is unethical and a crook. Through it all not was a veterinarian present to address anything with me. They apparently are spineless and let their staff handle it. Contacting the State of Idaho and filing a formal complaint.

A few days ago, we received a beautiful sympathy card with loving notes from their staff. We have decided that this is where we want to take all of our furbabies. From the moment she walked into the room, Bev was kind, compassionate, and genuinely invested in helping our dog. Even though this was an urgent care appointment, she went above and beyond in every way. She took the time to thoroughly evaluate our pup, performed an ultrasound to ensure nothing was being overlooked, and patiently answered all of our questions. At no point did we feel rushed. (Bonus points for getting our pup's nails trimmed during the visit, something we've deemed nearly impossible since our sweet girl has started to decline.) Over the years, we've seen specialists and veterinarians that required long waits for appointments, yet Bev was more thorough than many of those experiences. She made us feel confident that every appropriate step was being taken and that we were doing everything possible to give our dog the best care and quality of life. Unfortunately, the visit ended with difficult news. Even then, Bev handled the conversation with incredible empathy, kindness, and compassion. She helped us understand the situation while also reassuring us that we had been doing everything we could for our beloved dog. That meant more to us than we can adequately express. If you are looking for a veterinarian who is exceptionally knowledgeable, thorough, and deeply caring, we cannot recommend Bev Cochrane highly enough. We are so grateful for the time, attention, and compassion she showed our family during a very emotional and difficult day.

That said, I had been so upset and in so much anxiety since her health appeared to be failing that I spent an entire day this week, driving around and viewing several veterinarian clinics in Boise. I had pretty much given up when I came upon Hometown Animal Clinic. I made an impromptu visit and was greeted kindly and with care by Sarah, who works at the front desk! She was considerate of my tears and quickly scheduled me for this today. The last two days I've been riddled with anxiety about how my 13-year-old girl would do during a vet visit, I must say, it went extraordinarily well. Of course, Sarah was there to greet me this morning. I left Akira in the car until Erin came to the back door to welcome us in. Again, I was very anxious, but Akira had no fear of the environment nor of Erin. Erin was very kind and thorough with her inquiries about the current situation, diet, past etc. Upon Erin beckoning Dr. Duncan, she arrived quietly and kindly. Dr. Duncan spent nearly an hour in the exam room with Akira and I and was very calm and gentle. She concurred and acknowledged my concerns and we moved forward with some necessary testing that was not intrusive. I left feeling the biggest sense of relief and gratitude! He immediately diagnosed and addressed sx in one of my cats who was previously not diagnosed. He initiated organ saving/protective treatment in another cat with a chronic medical condition. He is fantastic and has helped my fur children more than I can put into words. He has the most zen and calm bedside manner which puts my anxious cats at ease. Not only is he a competent and wonderful doctor, but its evident he loves animals and all my fur children love him! After the vet consultation they came in for payment and asked for $555 saying that they had to add on the price of disposing of the body. That was above what we could afford so we made credit arrangements and got approved for the overage. When they came back to run it again the price was now over $575. They would not honor the price that they quoted us and were trying to scam us during a traumatic time. Do not go there! They don't care about you or your pet. They are just in it for the money.

I wish that I was able to go in the back with him while they did his exam and treatment, but I was told to wait out front. The facility is new super-clean, convenient, well laid out, and staffed with friendly, professional employees. A day or so later, I was concerned that his paw was still swollen, and so I took him back, and they were able to confirm that he was healing properly at no charge! Hey, they even have free coffee, tea and cider while you wait.

He wears a muzzle because of it. When I previously told them he was scared, they were SO nice to him, gave him treats and lots of pets. I was incredibly grateful for how kind and truly compassionate they all were, I cannot express how much I appreciated and loved them. Truly magical caring people. My advice going forward is if you have a fearful dog, if you're sensitive, like kind friendly people, do not schedule with Dr Brett. He might talk to you like you're bothering him and tell you your dog sucks. I see all these other reviews and really wonder why he treated me so different. Maybe he had a bad day, maybe he just didn't like me and my dog, either way you shouldn't treat people coming to you for help like they are bothering you. I feel so icky and awful, I got in my car and cried after our apt with him. 1 star for Dr Brett and 5 Stars for the girls.
