I love people, and I love dogs. PSA: To protect others, PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. My dog was bitten at this facility. She's incredibly socialized, and has regularly gone to dog parks and daycare minimum 3x a week with zero issues. Tried Pet Paradise as the facility seemed well established. I loved the idea of a bone-shaped pool for play, turf to run, and a doggie cam if I missed her at work to see what she's up to. Pet Paradise after selling in 2016 has prioritized property design aesthetic over quality staff training, animal behavioral training, and attentiveness. Not only was she injured, no one told me or made me aware. I got home and noticed blood in her fur. The incompetence is absolutely unacceptable from Regional Customer Service Manager Leanne, who has taken over two weeks to resolve this. Leanne said the wound is a laceration (scratch from the pool) when it's indeed a puncture wound confirmed by the vet. Not from a pool. The other staff and managers have been wonderful... sadly this is a much larger problem with several other Pet Paradise locations citing negligence and dog bites without notification of injury. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE.

If I could rate this "establishment" at a zero I would. I rarely (if ever) post reviews regardless of how bad the experience is, but this time I am making an exception. I entrusted Pet Paradise of Richmond, VA (near the airport) to care for my pet while I was away on vacation. This is the first time my pet had to stay at a kennel and unfortunately it will be her last. I entrusted them to care for my pet and I truly regret that decision. In a week's time, while I was away, I got a call from them stating that my dog had "passed away". Not one person could explain to me why my pet died. She was a healthy 4 y/o teddy bear breed (bichon frise/shih tzu mix) and now because of this establishment's negligence, she is no longer here with her family who loved her. I cannot tell you who to take your pets to for boarding; I can only tell you about my experience with them.

Before with a proper schnauzer grooming...

I've been using them for over a year now, and PETS at PLAY goes ABOVE and BEYOND anything I could've expected. (Note- they only provide in-home visits for the Church Hill neighborhood). They're always there for me when I need them. They just really have incredible customer service. They've been able to do same day visits for me when I've been worried about my cats but am unable to leave work, and email or call me to let me know everything is okay. On a couple of occasions the key I left in the lockbox was faulty (have since gotten rid of this key lol) and one time I even FORGOT to leave the key but was hours away. But on these occasions they didn't just say, "Oh well, not our fault" and leave - they went to my landlord to ask to be let in so my fur babies didn't have to go without food, a litter box change, and TLC. They send an email and pictures from the visit every time they come. They let me know how the babies are doing while I'm away. And the best part is my kitties don't have to be kenneled and put in a cramped up crate in a new, scary place while I'm gone. They get to stay in the comfort of their home and get visited by familiar, loving faces. I really do feel like PETS at PLAY truly enjoys seeing my cats. From the pictures it looks like my cats enjoy them, too. I really just couldn't be happier with this business. They've saved me and been there for me so many times and are such a huge convenience and frankly necessity in my life... that if I ever considered moving, I would specifically be sure to not move out of their service area. I don't know what I'd do without them.

I visited the property and left my dog for a brief overnight stay the first time. She said that she let him sleep in their bedroom. I did not consent to this as she has other dogs and I didn't feel comfortable with him interacting with unknown dogs. The second time I left him in their care for 3 nights. My red eye flight arrived mid afternoon and went to get my dog without advance notice. This didn't give them time to hide the abuse they were putting my poor dog through. When I walked in, he looked anxious, miserable and significantly older. I noticed his tail hair was yellow--it was saturated in dry pee and on top of that he did not have any water in his crate and a bowl with scattered food. This is very concerning since I was told that the dogs are taken out into the backyard every 2 hours for potty relief. Also, my dog has a history of pancreatitis so it is crucial for him to eat his own food. I know something was given to him to entice him to eat because he had diarrhea and loose stool. Upon further notice after getting him home, he had a deep crate line on his nose that took a couple of weeks to go away. Lastly, the dogs naturally get excited anytime someone comes in so they start barking in their crates. The way that Mary yells at them to "shut up" is APPALLING and unprofessional. They try to tell you that the dogs they care for become comfortable with them shortly after the owner leaves. Almost every dog I saw looked anxious. This is no way that a person who loves dogs or animals would treat them. Please do not bring your pet here if you want them in a caring and trust-worthy environment while you're away.
