Unless you like being discriminated against here I would not recommend. At least not when the so called "manager" is there. I went into the store with my female partner a while ago and was helped by the manager, Marisa, while I was by myself and my partner was wandering. I asked her a couple of questions about switching up my dog's food. Not only did she try to push their store's brand dog food heavily on me which is only grain free which is what my partner and I were switching away from because of the recent studies of grain free causing heart disease but she tried to tell me that the research wasn't accurate and that their brand was the best brand. After she finished telling me why I and other scientists were wrong, my partner walked over and held my hand and gave me a quick peck. The obvious look of disgust was heartbreaking and made me feel so bad I ended up just telling her I was going to take a look at Costco and thanked her for her time. Unfortunately her discrimination didn't stop there. A little while after, while with my family, I decided to give the store one more chance. Unfortunately we were helped by the same woman. My parents were looking for dog ear cleaner for their lab and she came along to help. Giving her the benefit of the doubt and thinking that maybe she had just had a bad day the previous visit I asked her which ear cleaner she recommended since there were 3 different kinds. She explained to us the difference and after she was done I started explaining to my parents, who hadn't spoken yet, in Spanish what she just said. As soon as I started speaking Spanish, this "manager" started to roll her eyes so hard that i thought they were about to fall out. My mother caught her eye roll and her face instantly fell. I don't usually post reviews or complaints but after discussing with close friends and my family we decided discrimination like this should not be ignored or encouraged especially by a manager. This manager not only belittled me but my partner and my family as well. She caused me to feel like I was dirt under her shoe and made my family feel like second class citizens. When you walk into this store at first it is fairly impressive due to the shark tank... they carry a lot of items for dogs, cats, fish and other small pets. Some of the material items you won't find at Petco nor Petsmart. The pricing for their items isn't cheap by any means and more than likely you're going to pay a lot more than you should. What is more impressive but shocking at this store is the large selection of fish and tanks and such. But in all seriousness, don't be fooled. I have spoken to their employees that should be knowledgeable with fish, but that is a rarity to be seen at this store. They are normally rude and you can't find someone walking around to help out with questions. There was one time where I did find someone decently knowledgeable with some species of saltwater fish, but that was years ago and since then these people don't know what the heck they are talking about. The shark tank isn't anything but shocking. It's poorly maintained and the staff isn't qualified to take care of such animals. These are open sea fish that shouldn't be in such a small tank; they need a huge open space and you can plainly see the sharks they keep in that tank are uncomfortable. Sharks grow very fast in general, it's in-humane and when asked the staff doesn't know anything about what happens to these animals. I've seen them sell baby sharks and shark eggs; one to a couple with a child who "wanted" it because it looked cute. The employee gave wrong information to the customer and it was obvious from the info they gave that they didn't have the experience nor tank to house such an animal. When a supervisor was inquired to about how they sell such animals, I was lied to about the application process that they have to make sure an interested buyer could care for it. I had spoken to the person who was buying the shark and he obviously hadn't been checked at all. Sure, none of my business; I'm not from any organization or anything of the sort, but it's pretty terrible to see this happening to those poor animals. Not only that, this store sells very poisonous fish that shouldn't be taken lightly; pretty yes, fantastic for the experienced hobbyist sure, but not to someone who doesn't have any idea of what they are doing. I wouldn't buy fish from this store if you PAID me. The staff doesn't know what they are talking about as I mentioned before, and a lot of the times the fish do not look healthy. On several occasions I have spoken to the staff about a fish that was ill or needed assistance. All they could tell me was the fish was being taken care of and it obviously wasn't so. If you need accessories or supplies, sure if you want to pay that much. But don't buy fish here!!! read more

This place has a nice selection and a wide variety of pet items. They have the best selection of dog food in Turlock. They often have low cost vaccination events, and the staff is both helpful and friendly. Additionally there is an area in the back of the where you can wash your dog. read more

Grand opening. This place used to be Pet Extreme. They offer free membership and have really good deals. Today I went in and got Kaytee hay BOGO, some cat nip, and they offer a FREE 2-6lbs dog or cat food. Any brand! Fast friendly service, will be back for more pet supplies for sure. read more

Like most pet stores, this place is expensive. However, I have no other alternative because of the food I purchase for my dogs. I do like the services they offer as well, even though I don't use them. As said in other reviews, I've never seen more than 1 person at the check stand. The staff also seems to be VERY uninformed. I have never received an answer from any staff member. They deflect the question, or delay until they read the label on the item. read more

This review is for the salon only. Do yourself and your dog a favor and skip this place. I asked for just a bath and brush for my long haired puppy. I specifically told the groomer NO hair cut. How hard was it to understand the simple instruction? She cut his hair anyway. I brush my puppy every day and I know that he didn't have any matts that required a hair cut. In fact, he came home with a lot of matts and tangles and really dry hair. She didn't even condition it. I don't know how to fix the hair disaster she created. To makes matters worse, when I told the woman who handed me my dog that I specifically asked the girl to not cut the hair, she brushed me off. I wish I could give them a no star. So disappointed! This was our first and last time coming here. We took our GSD to there self washing station and the experience from the beginning was horrible; first there customer service was terrible once we paid the lady left to talk to her co-worker (Instead of, I don't maybe going to show us where even the station is), I then asked another employee where there station was and how it all worked. Her response "Back there and you just wash it, your towels are here" first of all where is back there (keep in mind we've never been here before), second ok yes I know how to wash my dog but is there shampoo already back there? Do you guys provide a leash and brushes? Lastly where exactly is "here" for the towels. From that terrible experience we then walk to the back where the self wash station is located, and to my surprise no leash you'd expect for when you wash a dog, no brushes, oh and the towels that were provide looked disgusting. On 5 January 2021 I went into the Odenton Maryland store about 9:30am to look for specific canned dog food. There was one cashier on duty and I was the only customer in the store at the time. I was looking for specific brands. Every 15-30 seconds the cashier walked over to the aisle where I was, and watched me for several seconds. He repeated this behavior 5-6 times. I felt as if I was being spied on as a shoplifter. After getting what I needed I went over to checkout and asked the cashier why was he watching me, did he think I was shoplifting. He gave me some cock and bull story about having to walk around to "help" customers. Not once did he ever approach me to offer assistance (I didn't need help but that is beside the point). I have patronized this store since the day it opened, and never saw such behavior before. I felt like a criminal. read more

They doubled the cost for self serve dog washes during a pandemic! Who does that? The affordability had us in the store and making additional purchases frequently. I've already purchased my own dryer and will be doing washes from home and no longer visiting the store. The sudden and high increase has maddened me to the point where I will no longer shop there. Used to be 5 star but downgraded recently. I love how they carry some higher end brands of dog food (Primal) but I'll pay more and go back to Chewy instead of going back here again. I used to think they were super friendly but the last time I tried to return a bag of food because it smelt off I was given kind of a hard time about it. I think 3 different employees were involved in the process. The second one kept asking lots of questions as if I were wrong to return it. I've been feeding my dog this brand for at least 5 years so I know what it should smell like and it was off. I don't know why he cared so much, the brand (Primal) has fantastic customer service and has your back no matter what. Second issue was with a different return. Somehow the initial purchase receipt I was using to return listed the items as if they were returned. This was impossible as I hadn't returned the items (I had some with me I was trying to return then and had used two others). I don't know what the heck happened with their system to make that happen but I felt really uncomfortable because they made it seem like I was trying to pull a scam. I go in there all the time and now don't feel comfortable doing so because of that experience. Lastly, the manager was very nice one time but kind of rude during another encounter. I was looking for a dog food I've never seen there before but the website had listed as new (ZiwiPeak). I asked if they'd get more sizes in (they have the smallest size...it would last a small dog a week or less) and he said that's all that is available to them (weird because other times he's rushed to try and order things for me, but ok). I said oh I thought you might since it's new. He said it's been there a year. I said wow really I don't see it (found out it was hanging on clips on the aisle, it doesn't have it's own spot on a shelf). I even mentioned how it says new on the website but he wouldn't stop acting like I'm way off about it. Finally, the prices are good. Unless they've changed in the last month or two, they beat Chewy's price on Primal. That mixed with sales and coupons make a great deal on expensive dog food. This is a bit harsh but unfortunately due to the Rude behavior by the middle aged blonde assistant manager (her hair was covering her name tag) we have experienced on our last two visits in the Turlock location, we will no longer return. She has berated us and tried to refuse use the dog wash area now on two separate visits. We have been customers as far back when the original store was built and opened. We also purchase most of out pet needs in this store. The other employees including assistant manager Ron have been extremely nice and professional. However this woman has upset me for the last time. Her failed attempt at wishing me a Merry Christmas rather than giving an apology shows that she in incapable of providing any sort of customer service. Her final insult was lying about my husband upsetting another customer.... Really ! She is insulting and rude and a detriment to this business as far as I'm concerned. read more

Well today I went to pet extreme in turlock, got my money back, and told the manager that he can be sure that I am not the only customer they have lost! I told him I didn't appreciate having someone piss on my back and tell me its raining! this was a post I put on facebook a couple weeks ago, I went into the store and paid cash for a new cage on March 19 for my cocatoo Benny, and was told that it would take only two days to get it, I was givin excuse after excuse for weeks and still no cage! Unfortunately, Pet Extreme should be renamed "The Only Pet Store Turlock Has, Deal With It". They are over priced, the staff for the most part are inexperienced and their selection never seems to change. We purchased a collar for our dog and it didn't fit. When we took it back and it had been taken out of their system. It still had the price tag and Pet Extreme tag on it. They refused to give us our money back, or a store credit.Talked with the Manager and he refused to take it back, said it was company policy. What better way to lose a customer over a $12 collar. Yes this is a very big store and they do have the same things that all the other stores have but more of it. The only thing I'm interested in is the Angel eyes. If you have a white dog or white cat with red eyes then you need Angel Eyes. This stuff really works and Pet Extreme is the only place you can get it due to the fact that it is only sold where there is a Vet on staff. Guess it's due to some FDA ruling. Use Angel Eyes to get the red out of your pets eyes. read more

Every time we have gone into this store, we have had terrible customer service. We bring in our Dane to the store and the employees get frustrated or annoyed when her tail happens to hit something on the shelf. I don't leave it for them to pick up, it's not like they have to go out of their way. We stopped going here for anything other than the clinic outside on Sundays. I took both my Goldendoodles in for a haircut last week and it cost me 180.00. They did a decent job on my female but my male looked like a hot mess!! He had chunks missing on a couple places on his body and his haircut was complete mess. He was so uneven all over and when we called to speak with the manager... She had the nerve to say that my dog was aggressive. My Cooper has never once been aggressive in the last 10 months that we have had him. My 3 year old niece pulls on him, wrestles with him, throws him down and never once had he been aggressive with her or my children.. So, now I have to go somewhere else and pay another 75.00 to get him cleaned up properly. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone that loves their pets! read more

But since they have switched over to the new company, it has not been the same. We have bought on two different occasions, and both times about a third of the bag was crushed; so much it was powder. I've always brought my husky to get groomed here. Last time they told me I would have to pay more because they were raising the prices. I was okay with that. Today I took him to get groomed and when I was about to pay they said it was $63. I've always paid like $55 so I asked why it was $63. The guy didn't know what to do so he asked a girl to come over and help. She went to grooming and asked why it was so high and apparently they told her that they had informed me of the price change. They never told me about the price change so what a lovely surprise that was. They didn't even inform me before I took him in about any price change or after I went to pick him up and pay. $63 for a bath and brushing? No thanks. I'd rather go to petco or just find somewhere else where they can from my pup. read more
