A 6 year old decided she wanted to try and take care of a captive tree frog this past summer, so we purchased a start-up aquarium for her. We went to Pet World and picked up a some accessories and some live crickets and meal worms. The accessories seemed a little on the steep side, but what do I know. The staff were not very responsive/friendly, but neither were they rude. They just seemed... uninterested? Oh well. We returned a couple more times for the live food; and were in and out in no time. Her tree frog passed away and we may try the experiment again this summer and if we do we'll return here for the frog chow. read more

Concerned About Misinformation and Animal Safety I recently had an unsettling experience at this pet store that I feel obligated to share, especially for the sake of animal welfare and consumer awareness. While I was shopping, I overheard an employee recommending two Syrian hamsters to be housed together in a single cage to a young girl and her mother. As anyone with even basic knowledge of hamster care knows, Syrian hamsters are strictly solitary animals and will almost certainly fight--often to the death--if forced to share a space. I felt compelled to speak up, out of concern for the animals' safety and the emotional toll it would take on the child if a fight broke out. Rather than acknowledge the mistake or engage in a respectful dialogue, the employee told me bluntly to "stay out of it." This is not just a customer service issue--it's an issue of animal welfare and ethical responsibility. Recommending unsafe care practices, whether due to ignorance or a push for sales, is unacceptable. Animals are living beings, not products. Profiting from misinformation is a form of animal abuse and erodes trust in a business that is supposed to support the well-being of pets and the people who love them. Pet stores have a responsibility to educate and guide customers with accurate, compassionate advice. If employees are giving out unsafe information just to close a sale, how can we trust this store with the care, health, and lives of the animals they sell? I urge the management to better train their staff on species-specific needs and to prioritize ethics over profit. And I encourage fellow consumers to research pet care independently and speak up when you see something wrong--animals don't have a voice, but we do. I'm fully in favor of supporting "mom & pop" stores. I've shopped for my cats food & litter here for 6-7 years. I like the people that work there. They're always helpful. Buyer beware! Money grab. Do Not buy fish from them. I had 3 died out of 4. No warranty because I didn't get my water tested. I spent 20 on fish. So sorry! The sign was a sticky note at the end of a row of tanks. Then one big one on a water tank. I didn't even look that way. The person that helped me didn't tell me about water testing in order to get a warranty. The manager is off and the assistant manager is useless. She won't make a decision. Horrible service. Rude staff. My elderly mother can not shop any more so I've had the unpleasant experience of going into this store 3 times. I've been ignored (looked straight at then they ask the person close to me if they need help). Today the girl watched me walk to the register, stand there with my mom's purchases turned around and asked someone who has just walked up if they needed help. I turned around, walked away and told my boyfriend and grandson in a decently loud voice that we were leaving and going to PetSmart/Petco. Had a wild Brown Anole adopt us but I'm not sure he's getting back outside to eat and she rudely told me to catch him and throw him outside. Then she pointed at lizard light bulbs while walking away after I had told her he was not in a cage. Hate this place. I will never go there again. I will always drive out of my way to not shop there. read more

I purchased my little bundle of joy from Pet World. It has been about 1 year since I got my parrot from this store. The staff was very friendly in helping me get all the supplies I would need for my bird. Parrots are A LOT of work and I don't advice getting one unless you have the time to pay attention to them. My conure is EXTREMELY loud on a daily basis. However he is very sweet and overall a great pet. Pet World gave me a discount on bird accessories since I was purchasing the bird, cage, etc. from them. Looking back at it now I wish I had gotten a cage that had a flat top so I could put a play stand on top. I also somewhat wish my cage had a built in play stand on top. However the cage I bought from this store is still in excellent condition. There was some food for the bird I purchased I never truly needed. My bird is very picky and does not like seeds. If I could go back in time I would've purchased smaller portions of food to learn which was the best option for my bird. I took my bird home in what I believe might've been a box for crickets. I wish the store had a more bird friendly way of getting him home safely. If the store had showed me a bird carrier option I probably would've bought one at the time. Overall happy with my purchase and experience. My bird is doing great and is as cute as the first day I got him. Thanks Pet World for taking care of my bird until I found him. read more

Have been going here for years and always had employees come up and say I can pet the hamsters and bunnies if I want ,all of a sudden today I go in and start to pet a bunny and this lady got hysterical yelling that I cant do that, my husband heard her from across the store, my daughter next to me was so embarrassed as was I. Very nice store, but VERY over priced. We went in to buy a feeding bottle for a 3 week old kitten. We stopped and looked at the kittens and puppies. The kittens were priced at $159.00. Just plain kittens you could get at the pound for $40.00. The puppies were $1,200.00. How?? They couldn't possibly get sold. They'll most likely end up there anyway. Disgusting that people can be so greedy and ruthless for money. And at the expense of animals no less. BOYCOTT PLEASE. read more

I love this local pet store's selection of fish, reptiles, and other pets but I was disappointed to see a selecation of puppies for sale. Please adopt as there are plenty of dogs that need homes in local shelters. Additionally, some of the sulcata tortoises that they had in stock did not seem like they were in the best health. I would definitely try this establishment if you are looking for a nice selecation of aquarium fish to choose from. read more

This store is absolutely horrible. They do have a large variety of items for all sorts of pets. However, the condition they keep their animals in is horrible. They have an adult tortoise in a small pin with just hay. They have 3-4 bunnies in small tanks with one hide, they are basically on top of each other. The fish have no plants or decor to hide in. All the animals look like they are depressed and bored. I'm just so sad with what I experienced there, I wish I could take them all home. If you shop here, just look at the animals and do a basic Google search of habitat needs/basic care. I guarantee that they do not meet those standards. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. My 14 year old daughter saved her money and got herself a Love bird there on Sunday, today is Wednesday and she woke up to a dead bird and is extremely upset. She took the bird and the receipt back to the store where she was told she should have used the same food brand they used. We were given no instructions or suggestions when we purchased the bird, the boy put it in the box and rang us up at the register. Spoke to the manager on the phone, Chris, and was told she said the bird starved to death (which I later found out she never said), then spoke to the owner, Darlene Brooks, who said she could purchase another bird half off but refused to acknowledge that her employee didn't do his part in educating the customer on the proper food/care, she told me that we should have did our own research and it sounds like I'm trying to blame them when I, an adult, should have asked questions at the time of purchase (like I knew the bird should have had a "special" food). She was extremely rude, arguing with me that she is hearing two different stories, that my daughter said the bird starved and me saying how she told me it ate a cheerio!!?! I got the impression that they just don't care about their animals, just the money, because it was not a big deal to her that they don't advise the customers to special food or proper care! She then told me it could be the environment we took it to (our heat controlled home in a bird cage!) or something else, if the bird should have been in a specific environment then this information should be given at purchase! My daughter loved that little bird up those 3 days and it's so sad that an owner of a pet store has no type of compassion and refuses any accountability! I will pay full price at another pet store for a new bird rather than give any more of our money to Pet World!! read more

Have a very nice selection of toys treats and food. Only down side is they sell animals. I will not shop where puppies and kittens come from puppy and kitten mills. Sorry. There are so many pets in shelters that will never make it out alive because of backyard breeders. read more

Debbie H. has the right idea. I started going to this company because they supplied my preferred brand of dog food. My favorite breed of dog is the Papillon so one day while strolling past the puppies to the dog food I noticed a Papillon. Needless to say against my best judgement I bought this little Papillon (who seemed a little unsure at the store but I was sure at home would fit right in). We purchased her and upon arriving home I found my puppies was terrified of everything. She was terrified of me, she was terrified to eat, she was terrified of my other dogs. Puppies at 8 weeks old do not run for their life from a human unless raised in an environment that is hostile and requires such conditioning. It took days for her to accept our touch without fear. Still today, after almost 2 years of loving compassionate care (I foster for a nationwide papillon rescue) as well as own two other Papillons. She still urinates out of fear (mill trait) and becomes fearful at random times of myself of my husband. I am so sad this happened to my beloved dog and I am upset I contributed to it. Please do your research. There are plenty of breeders in your area that you can contact that raise their dogs in a loving home environment. read more

I went there yesterday to look at some animals and to get my betta some things. I certainly do not agree with how they treated these animals, and how expensive everything is. The Puppies there were life-less it seemed like they wouldn't move, The birds were being harassed, and the bettas were poorly taking care of, the bowls were dirty full of food and poop, they were in smaller cups than what Walmart has them in. I strongly don't support this for these animals.. read more
