Date of visit: March 29, 2024 I popped in here to finish up a gift card I was given, hoping that this store was better than the Menomonee Falls store I first visited with said gift card. Sadly, this store is also pretty awful though it does smell much better than the one in the Falls. Staff working throughout the store pay no attention to you so don't expect to get any help if you need it. When it was time to check out, the cashier did not greet me and did not respond when I greeted her. Knowing that their gift card process is pretty 1990s, I had a Post It Note on the gift card with the remaining balance but when I presented it, the cashier told me, "I don't know how to do those." She called someone else over and apparently today was not her day to learn gift cards because she went to the other register and helped the next customer. It took two other people to process the gift card, both of which had eyes only for the cash register, it's like I wasn't even there. The only further interaction was asking if I wanted a bag. Sooooo glad that I finished up that gift card and I never have to set foot in one of these stores again! read more

My wife , son ( 2 yr old) and myself stopped in to purchase some outdoor protection for our shih tzu's paws around 11am on Sunday 1/18/26. There were two young women working the front of the store. My wife asked what would be the best boots to get. The worker pointed to an end cap of a certain brand. My wife asked if there were any other brands and she said yes but she didn't know where they were. She proceeded to ask the other employee if she knew where they were and the other worker said she didn't know. The cashier borderline berated her a little and the worker on the floor walked off, my wife thought she was going to go see. I took my son to the car because he was starting to have a melt down. My wife said the girl who took off and the remaining worker, according to my wife, rolled their eyes as I took him out of the store because he was crying (he is 2 by the way). My wife saw their reactions to our son and left. Listen, we shop at stores like this, not because they're cheap, but because of customer service. We will make our purchase from Amazon. I try to support brick and mortar stores but because of situations like this I'm starting to wonder why. This store failed and we will never go there again. A few reasons we shop here: the staff is helpful and informative. Our son has a pet toad and we buy crickets and bedding here on a regular basis. Especially with winter coming and the outside crickets hibernating. The building itself is pretty worn; it could be described as a fixer upper. Competing with national chains such as Petco and Petsmart must be horrible. My guess is this won't be here long. read more

Biiiiiig selection of lots of things for lots of different kinds of pets. Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles etc. Super sweet with my dog even after she acted a fool when she saw bunny rabbits in the cage and started barking. Ohh, shortly thereafter she peed in another aisle. Store employees were super nice about it and still said "she's so cute." They have a name tag engraver machine. Tons of dog beds and cat trees. Lots of cool chew toys. Prices were average if not a little high. Promotions made me sad. It's after Christmas and they're offering 15% off on ugly Christmas sweaters for dogs. C'mon! Give a dog a bone and give at least 50% off. My dog is unemployed. read more

Prices are good for sure but the fish room is the worst I've ever seen. Disgusting conditions for these poor fish. There seem to be available employees around but apparently no one responsible for even monthly cleaning of the tanks. It's a shame and I'm surprised that they are allowed to do business this way. Our new dog tore up his crate pad yesterday (naughty boy!) and we happened to be nearby and thought we'd try to "shop local". Honestly, this pet store is pretty much a piece of shit - sorry, but it's true. Yes, it is large but most of the stock isn't anything I'd let near my dog. The food brands are mostly mass market, low nutrient garbage (no Fromms, Merrick, etc). Treats too - mostly imported stuff of questionable quality. PetCo and Pet Smart both had far better options in a smaller footprint. They did have a decent selection of crate pads but they were $30(!) more than what I'd seen online. The store isn't especially clean, the staff (if you can find one) is generally glued to Pokemon Go and unwilling to help. I wandered the treat aisles for a good while, passing several staffers in a futile effort to find decent quality options and at no point did anyone acknowledge my presence. I'm sorry but if your prices are way high, your store is gross, your stock is crap and your staffers don't care, why on earth would I choose to spend my money here?? read more

Clearly, I was being generous with my last review. As I said, I only come here to purchase crickets. After my most recent visit, I'm not sure if I'll be back. As usual, the reptile room was empty. I was the first person in there and an employee walked past the doorway at least three times, saw me, and didn't come in. Another customer came in and began looking at the animals. I left to go visit the bird room. Within seconds, an announcement came over the intercom that help was needed in the reptile room. Within another few seconds, someone came into the bird room and began giving them water. She was nice enough, asking me if I needed help, to which I replied no. I walked back over to the reptile room and the same customer was still standing there, with no employees to be found. I was going to leave and go somewhere else, but as I began to walk out towards the front door, I saw 3 employees pseudo working.....more talking and joking around than working. I asked for help with the reptiles and I got an apology as one of them walked into the reptile room and helped us both out. Don't apologize, just do your job! It really is that easy! I think I'm done here. I recently found out that Aquatics Unlimited down the street sells crickets. They are a little more expensive, but the better customer service would make it worth the money! read more

I bought a 20-gallon fish tank this past Saturday, April 17th and set it up on Sunday the 18th (yesterday). It was a consolidation of 2 existing 10-gallon saltwater tanks we were using as quarantine tanks, so we transferred all the bio matter, filters, water and "keep the bio system going" fish to the new 20-gallon tank. Last night, 6 hours after setting it up, my wife noticed water near the base on one side. as the leak was manageable with rags to soak up the water, I left the water in it and everything running until I had time today, Monday at 3:00 after all my work meetings were done to drain the tank and take it back to the store. When I tried to exchange it today, the manager of your store refused to deal with me and stated I had to deal with Aqueon. He would not even return the lid that was unopened that I'm not going to use because of the configuration I'm now going to use I'll have to make a custom lid from acrylic. I had the receipt from Saturday, so it is not like I didn't have a receipt. He was truly a jerk and treated me like he did not care if I shopped there. I even said that I do quite a bit of business with the store, but after this experience, I was going to start shopping somewhere else like Petco or Aquatics unlimited down the street... He said, "that's fine, we don't like your kind in here anyway"... when I asked what he meant by that, he refused to answer, instead he changed the subject and said the tank looked like it had been used more than 7 days and doubted this was the tank I bought on Saturday. I tried to explain that because the salt water was evaporating around the bottom edge as the towel absorbed the water, it was leaving salt crystal residue, even over night; it does do that very quick if you ever dealt with saltwater tanks before. The sticker on the side of the tank states that the tank (being 20 gallons) has a 5 year warranty and states, "if the aquarium is found to be defective, the dealer you purchased it from is authorized to exchange the defective item for a new one." The salesperson that checked us out on Saturday looked for cracks or chips in the glass, but couldn't check the Silicone seals, which is where the leak was, said that if there was any problem with the tank within 7 days, we could bring it back for exchange or refund. This is even posted on the sign in the checkout area. Needless to say I got upset and wasn't about to leave until I received satisfaction, I even asked that he call the owners because he was being so unreasonable, he refused and said to come to the website and use this form to make a complaint... so I am. When I refused to leave the store until he at least returned the unopened lid that I bought with the tank, he called the police to force me to leave. On my way out, the manager asked me to not return to the store, which I guess is fine with me. I will be bringing this issue up with Aqueon directly that you, as a dealer, refused to honor their warranty and perhaps they take care of it. By the way, I'm still wondering what kind of people he doesn't like to have in his store? I'm a 52-year-old white male that is married with kids and morbidly obese due to medical issues beyond my control. I happened to be wearing sweatpants and an old t-shirt because I just got done tearing down a fish tank and didn't want to ruin my work clothes. Does he not like fat people? People that don't dress in the latest fashionable attire all the time? Does he not like straight, white middle-aged males? Can this, or any, business afford to discriminate against anyone???!!! read more

This place is ok, I guess. They have a lot of supplies but they really aren't cheap like you'd expect. My biggest problem with the store is that the employees have no idea about the animals, but act like they do. I went there to get two gerbils. The employee showed me two in separate cages that were girls, so I bought them. A few weeks later I find out that one was not a girl. My gerbil had babies. I had gotten attached to both but I had to give one away, and that left my one gerbil (which is a social animal) all alone. I called them about it and they told me "Well, you can't really tell gender of gerbils that young". Okay... so why did the employee tell me so matter of fact they were girls and didn't mention that she wasn't totally sure? Idk. I'd buy supplies from them, I guess... but I hate how they treat their animals. They also sell fish that have been dyed and tattooed which just pisses me off. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. I bought two brand new light bulbs for my bearded dragons enclosure. Switched to the new bulb yesterday morning to ensure that the bulb wouldn't burn out while I was at work, the other bulb was on its way out. I get home after 8 hours and the bulb isn't on anymore! Bearded dragon enclosure at like 67 degrees. I run to get the other new bulb I bought and that one doesn't even turn on! DO NOT BUY BULBS HERE FOR YOUR REPTILES! I called and told them what happened and they couldn't have cared less. You just lost a customer who stopped in weekly for food and other accessories! read more

I have mixed feelings about any pet store that sells animals because many of them do not know how to care for them or really care about the wellbeing of the animal and this is no exception. Pros - Large variety of goods for all types of pets. Prices are pretty competitive. It's fun to bring your dog in to shop with you and fun to see the other ones in the store. They offer wellness clinics Conviently located and have been there for years Cons - Animals are not cared for the way they should be. Small mammals are kept in glass aquariums with no room to move and inadequate ventilation. Stray mice running around that have broken out of their cage. No health guarantee on animals - they should stand behind their sales. I have never personally purchased a pet from here but have heard the horror stories from people who did. I would urge Pet World to sell supplies and not the small mammals who belong in larger habitats that they do not provide. An example, a 12" ferret should not be living in a 36" glass aquarium, that's just inhumane. These animals need to run, just like a dog or cat. As for staff, they have people who work here and they can "try" to help you but rarely do. They are pretty much there to just take your money when you pay. Wish they had more experienced workers who could answer questions. In the nutshell, if you are going for supplies - they have alot of variety. read more

I was being generous with my last review of 1 star. However, I have no one to blame but myself! They are all young rude teenagers working there. I went in there to get bedding for a hamster and my daughter talked me into getting a beta fish. This was Sunday afternoon. I asked the girl how to take care of it (anyone who has had one knows it's fairly simple, but I was asking how to condition the water) she said "I dunno". Lol helpful! Anyways.. it's not HER fault my fish is dead and it's only Tuesday. It IS her fault for having terrible customer service though and not even talking to customers in a decent tone or manner. So fed up with this over priced place. Yet again.. I have no one to blame but myself for even stepping foot in here again. Never again. And I mean NEVER, will I give them a cent more. I worked in customer service and I get that the customer isn't always right, but these kids are downright rude! I will say Laura is one of the worst costumer service I have ever experienced. I buy a product from her store, so when I got home I found out it was a open box it was missing lots of parts. I've been taking my birds here (pedicures) for 5 years now, always on the weekends. I went in a couple weekends ago and was told they don't do nail trimmings on the weekends. What?! ? The gal even said " oh you're bringing Dewey and Noodles in for their nails" so they obviously know me and know what I come for. I was really irked. This pet store is probably the worst pet store i think i have ever been in. I bought a ferret here and it ended up not working in my house hold so we sadly ended up taking it back and all live stock sales were final which was fine.I ended up spending another $125 on a cage and they would not refund the cage at all which is kind of stupid even though it was used. I still feel like they could of gave me something in return. Its like a pair of jeans that don't fit so you have to return them and normally stores will give you at least in store credit or just give you your money back. The people working look absolutely miserable and just not very friendly at all. I just felt that my experience here was not good at all. I visited the store today because I needed to buy some food for my turtle and also because my resident is into birds. We looked at some of the birds and then walked around the store. I was surprised at the prices of some of the aquariums. I think they were greatly priced for their sizes. I will be returning to buy one for my turtle since he has outgrown his. Walked to the counter and needed assistance and asked where was the turtle food located. The cashier told me it was in the aisle where the turtle aquariums were. In in fact, was not. She didn't know what she was talking about. The other cashier chimed in and told me it was in the first aisle, which was true. I went and picked some out and checked out with him. He was very polite, asked me if I found everything alright, asked if I needed a bag or a receipt. He was very helpful read more

As I walked in today I was greeted by an employee immediately, as I was grabbing a cart and putting my Starbucks cup in to the cup holder of the cart. I then walked around the dog food, again, being greeted by an employee as I sipped my Starbucks. I picked out the food I needed and turned a corner, smiling at a small dog that was there with his owner picking out toys. At the same time I rolled my cart through, and stepped in a large pile of dog poop! Most likely from the cute little Westie. I wiped off my foot, asking the owner if that was hers. She apologized and walked away. Whatever...I needed one more thing so I went on my way. I passed the front counter, again being greeted by an employee, while I was still sipping my Starbucks. I turned the corner to pick out a lamp for my turtle when I was approached by an employee. I assumed she was going to apologize for me having to step in dog poop......Nope! She asked me to leave my Starbucks cup at the front counter. I asked her Why. She said it was against store policy for people to walk around with drinks in the store. What I wanted to say was, "So it isn't against store policy to sell kittens out of a cage bred by back yard breeders. It isn't against store policy to have piles of dog poop in the middle of the store aisle. It isn't against store policy for 3 employees to greet me and not mention my Starbucks cup. Your store chose to use carts that have cup holders in them. But, you would like me to leave my half empty Starbucks cup at the counter while I shop". But, instead. I just said "OK". Left my cart of dog food in the middle of the aisle, walked out and spent my money in another store. read more

Poor customer service. I'd give 1/2 a star or less. We moved in nearby about 4 months ago and with 2 dogs, 2 cats, a gecko and fish we frequented the store often. On many if not all occasions the customer service has been poor-- very poor. Oh, where to begin. We usually are very calm and patient people-- in fact I'm the one usually giving the sales person or cashier some slack because I've been in their shoes before. Today, we bought a UV-B lightbulb for our gecko-- we check out and then realize that the price for the bulb on the receipt (already crazy expensive) is $10 more than the sticker on the item. I say something to the cashier who first tells me that they go with the computer price because people switch the sticker (I could have but wasnt insulted that she may have been accusing me of doing the price tag switch). So, I go back to the aisle, grab about 8 of the same item with all the wrong sticker and bring them back to her and tell her that she couldn't use that excuse on 8 other items with the wrong sticker. She says that someone must have mismarked them but they wont honor the price. I've never shopped at a store that wouldn't honor the pricing mistake. So, I go back to the shelf and get a different bulb--not as good of one, but sufficient. They direct me to go to the "returns" counter and deal with a different cashier. She returns the item, scans the cheaper one (which also had the wrong price by about 50cents) but then tells us that the price difference between the two bulbs (about $10) would be put on a gift card for in store credit--in which we'd need to sign up for the frequent customer card. We argue with the lady and she finally agrees to put the money on the gift card, and then would credit the money back onto our credit card (which seems stupid to me but whatever). During this whole visit (and others) whenever we've asked to talk to the manager, we instead get excuses from the cashier or the request gets ignored-- I'm not sure they have a manager! I know in many states is actually against the law to price something different than what's on the sticker. Last week the store was out the of 40lb bag of dog food we buy. We asked if they'd give us the same price 2 20lb bags. The sales guy tells us we'd have to speak to the manager but then walks off, not helping us find/talk to said manager. We go to the front and are told the manager was busy. So we just leave with our crickets. Our first time in the store to buy crickets, they had one of the cashiers getting crickets for people. She obviously didn't know what she was doing and took about 4x longer than any other sales person. We were giving her advice on how to bag/count the crickets. Not completely her fault but crummy service nonetheless. The store is big, has just about anything you'd need for your animals. I haven't bought or researched where their source of animals are from, so I defer that to other reviewers. read more

Please do not give this store your business! Several other Pet World Warehouse's that I have visited have been fairly nice but this one is horrible. Their treatment of their birds is completely inexcusable. Their parakeets are crowded into extremely tiny cages, there are at least 10 birds in each cage that I would call a bare minimum for a single parakeet. The grates on all the cages are disgusting, the water is not clean, and the floor is littered with bird waste, thrown food, and feathers. This bird room STINKS and looks like it hasn't been properly swept in weeks. Their large parrots are kept in terrible conditions. One of the Goffin's cockatoos was was perched puffed up with his eyes closed, breathing extremely heavily, shaking, and not moving. He was covered in some kind of disgusting brown oil and looked like he was at death's door. This bird is one of the sickest I have ever seen in person. A pionus next to this bird was very ruffled and dirty though not as sick as the cockatoo. The end of the room had a few larger cages; one with a severe macaw. When I walked up to him I was just appalled. From across the room he looked pretty alright, no picked feathers or gross oil covering him. He waddled up to the front of the cage and I noticed one of his toes had been broken at one point because the toe had healed facing the completely wrong direction and the nail was also growing in at a really wonky angle. When I told one of the employees they simply said " Yeah, we know." and continued with their day. There was an amazon next to him in what I thought was a reddish cage with white scratches. When I walked up to it, I realized it was actually a white cage that had red pellet dust CAKED onto it. None of the birds have adequate toys and most of the larger parrots have only 1 perch, which can create serious problems with their feet. The fish room also had sick animals and the reptile room had many escaped crickets and lizards which I saw darting on the walls. read more

The only reason I shopped here was because they were the closest pet store that sells the brand of cat food I use. But now I know I can buy it cheaper on amazon I won't be back. It's really expensive here and so DIRTY! the customer service if you can get any is awful, the conditions of the animals is horrible. My sister bought a bunny and it died 3 days later, the vet said it had been sick for a long time. They have no health guarantee on pets....I wonder why. Had to take my 3yo to the bathroom, don't think that's ever been cleaned either...poop on toilet, cobwebs and spiders everywhere so I took her next door to use theirs. read more

Terrible customer service and pet policies! They sold us two "baby fancy rats" that turned out 4 days later to be infested with some type of mites and appear to be dying. When I called the store to explain the situation I was informed that they have a "no guarantee policy" on small animals. I explained to the "manager" that I spent over $100 on these pets and the whole set up for them, surely they could replace them with healthy animals from another tank. Evidently that is not within their means. My son is beside himself because his new pets are sickly and dying. As if it weren't bad enough that they sold us animals that are sick and infested, they refuse to try to correct the issue. Rats are priced at about $10 to $12. Certainly it is not about the money. I believe that any good business that sells a bad product would be willing to try to amend the situation. Pet world is obviously immoral, unethical as they stand behind selling dying animals; too bad for the consumer! I walked in and have made petworld my place to go for my pet supplies. On several occasions, I have witnessed a woman who says she is the "manager" "Gina" who was incredibly rude to a customer and was yelling at an employee RIGHT in front of customers, a few minutes later she was in a disagreement with a customer and she was acting like a child and talking to the customer so snotty! when I phoned to inform the owner "Pat" he listened however he seemed agitated that I called to tell him about Gina's behavior and almost seemed irritated that I would suggest Gina was rude because he trained her and also, he was upset because Gina trains the employees....hmmm......well, if training consist of yelling at them like children while customers are shopping? Nice training. Really, people do not change when their bosses are not around? If you are an owner of a store, wouldn't you want to know that your manger - not your employees: your MANAGER is being rude to employees in front of the persons who make it possible for your store to exist? I will not ever step foot in that store again. Apparently they don't care. But eventually enough persons will enter the store and witness what I did and come to the same conclusion. So your right. who cares. Keep your angry, disrespectful manager on. Gina is a sore excuse for representation of your establishment. I've been going to this location on and off for years now, and by now, I just expect to be disappointed. The customer service is nearly nonexistent, as many people also mention in their reviews. If someone isn't already working in the room you're going to, you might as well leave and go to a different location. Most times I go, I'm standing there waiting for a sales associate to come help me in the reptile room to get crickets. I'm not going to go back to the register counter and ask for someone to come in there because I shouldn't have to. Usually when I go in, there are a few sales associates wandering the floor (mainly by the dog and cat food aisles) and one or two people up in the "manager" booth, or whatever they call it. I hardly ever see someone by the reptile, fish, bird, and small animal sections. More than once I've gone there and waited in the reptile room while knowing there were multiple employees just chilling nearby (who definitely SAW me go into the room) and never received assistance. It's a huge waste of my time and my gas. Just today I went there and I literally timed it from when I got into the room to when I left the room after waiting, and it was almost seven minutes. Seven minutes for nothing. I had a friend that worked at the one in Menominee Falls and that place was far more organized; employees were diligent whenever a customer was around, service was prompt, the managers were on the employees' asses to get things done. This place? "Eh, just get your steps in for the day or something, become invisible when a customer is near, and don't worry about cleaning anything." I know there are some good people that work here, but the overwhelming majority seems to be young adults or high school burnouts that just don't really care. So, things are fairly priced, and they have an ok selection. However, look at the birds. No really, look closely. Look at their tails, some of their tails are missing, most are in horrible shape. Look at their nails, see how many have overgrown nails and are missing toes. Notice the water I their bowls, even their rarest birds had feces in their water. Today I saw mold growing on pet supplies and noticed a birds nails curling in a complete circle. I relayed this to an employee, he laughed and said "yeah, we try to get around to cutting them". Now take a look at the fish, several of the tanks had clear, advanced signs of fin rot. The owner shared some of his beliefs with me at one point regarding training, and he clearly favors negative conditioning. Staff and animals are clearly both anxious.
