I was hosted at Petal's Edge for one of their floral arranging classes and it was so fun! In a small intimate class you receive all the tools you need for the class as well as local blooms. Gerry was so insightful and engaging and I learned so much about floral arranging in the hour class. You are able to take your arrangement home and a wealth of knowledge on how to arrangement flowers at home. I definitely will be attending another class. If I could give this florist a zero, I would. I received an arrangement for Mother's Day 2022. It was attractive, but I noticed that the roses had brownish edges when I received it. The arrangement started wilting the day after I received it on Monday and by the entire arrangement was completely wilted by Wednesday. The flowers were never fresh to begin with. Perhaps they were leftover from an event? It sure looks that way. This shop's "arrangements" start at $85.00!! These look like they were purchased from a street vendor. Safeway has longer lasting flowers that are much more reasonably priced. I've called and left messages with this florist several times, but they are not calling me back after five days. Now I see that this business is temporarily closed and will reopen in August. This sounds like a "fly by night" business. So my assumption is that they don't care about their business or customers. If you want flower arrangements for your special occasion to look like the attached photos after three days, by all means, order from these people. read more

Customer service is nonexistent with this vendor. The owner refused to provide my wedding planner or me a quote. In communication with the owner/operator, they were condescending and demeaning to my wedding planner. After I called to politely understand the refusal to provide a quote; I was informed I would have to provide her first with how much she can charge me, rather than her providing a quote for what was asked based on the venue. What was further insulting is the fact that the owner took time to send a lengthy condescending email on two separate occasions rather than providing a quote as she stated it because it's not worth her time! Importantly, the quote requested was based on an arrangement the company has done in the past. The operator even attempted to liken themselves to Morton's?! As I explained to the illogical operator, even Morton's notes their prices and doesn't overcharge based on income. After speaking with the operator, it is clear to me that the owner provides quotes to "other " potential clients and maybe not so much for those who may look like me or my wedding planner. People like myself seem to have to pass a financial litmus test with Petals Edge. Sadly, this operator's tone, attitude, and demeanor was repulsive. read more

Wow - I would choose Petals' Edge Design a million times over. Gerry was beyond exceptional to work with. I initially called Gerry as soon as I got engaged to set up an appointment and was nervous about the florals as I'm not a design expert and didn't want to spend $10K on a wedding planner to put together a design scheme. Gerry took me off the ledge by reassuring me that I didn't need a "design scheme" and that our wedding venue (Top of the Town) needs very minimal decor as the venue has floor to ceiling windows and is the decor in it of itself. I appreciated Gerry more than she'll ever know when we had that initial conversation. It was the thing I worried about most - not having a designer's eye and wanting the event to look "cohesive'. When I met Gerry in person, it reinforced what I already knew. I wanted to work with her! One of her many talents is being able to translate all of my buzz words: "classic", "chic", "elegant", "pop of color", "bridal", "sophisticated" into flowers and color palettes. Gerry's proposal was flawlessly put together. She took all of my abstract concepts and put them together meticulously well. Another thing that I appreciated immensely, was Gerry being amenable to my budget and not upselling/cross-selling at any point. At no point was she making me feel insecure for not having something. She reminded me that a decade ago, people got married without wedding planners, and without an extravagant wedding budget, and everything turned out just fine. When I asked her if I would be "remiss not to having something". She said that, "I don't *need* to have anything, but if I *want* to have it, she's happy to add. I am an event planner and have worked with many, many florists over the past 30 years. None of them (or vendors of any kind) have been as objectionable as Gerry. Her attitude throughout the entire planning process and the wedding day set up was combative and rude. She's in a people pleasing business but has no people pleasing skills. When you're spending the amount of money my client did the bill should come with a positive, polite attitude. Gerry was absolutely great to work with. Even though I had the initial consultation with Rebecca, who is no longer with the company, Gerry seamlessly picked up right where she left off. I showed her photos of what I wanted based on their previous work and everything turned out great! When I met with her about requesting additional flowers, she suggested reusing the MOH bouquet and chair poises for those areas, which definitely saved me money! She even delivered to three separate locations (for an additional fee, which I thought was worth it) on time and made sure to call beforehand. When she delivered my personal flowers she also helped add some photos of my deceased father to the bouquet. She transferred the florals from the ceremony site to the reception site, which again saved on purchasing additional floral arrangements, and set everything up in time before my guests arrived. My only recommendation would be to make sure you send her a follow up email after meeting in person. I met with her at the end of July and thought everything was confirmed, but as I didn't follow up in writing it wasn't final. She accepted the few changes even though we were less than a month away from the wedding, which I was very grateful for! I would definitely use her services again! read more

We had Petals Edge do the personal flowers for our wedding last month (Sep 2011). From the start they were very accommodating. I ended up being VERY late for our meeting because of parade traffic in Old Town, and their next appointment had already arrived. Gerry graciously took me to Starbucks across the street rather than making me wait or come back another day. We weren't planning on doing any flowers in our decor, so we only needed bouquets, corsages, etc. (and we did not have a large bridal party). I didn't get a very welcoming response from most florists in Arlington/Alexandria, but Gerry never once made me feel like I was "less" of a customer because of my smaller order. She offered to meet with me again if I decided to incorporate flowers into the decor but she she never pressured me into buying more flowers. I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted, basically I knew what our colors were and I had printed one photo off the internet. That was all Gerry needed! I really liked that she took the lead without being pushy. I always felt like she made recommendations based on the design even if the flowers were less expensive than the other choices. Closer to the wedding I added a few things to the order with basically no instruction because I trusted they would know what to do, and they totally delivered. The day of the wedding the flowers were hand-delivered to my hotel room right on time, they were huge and extremely fresh! My bouquet had so many flowers it was actually heavy! And the flowers looked great all night into the next morning. They totally exceeded my expectations!! My venue gave us a list of florists in the area and for some reason Petal's Edge caught my eye. I'm all about supporting small businesses vs. big chains so I met with Gerry in person shortly after. My first impression of her was very good. She was very helpful providing me with all kinds of information and design ideas that I hadn't even considered. The pricing was decent but honestly my gut told me I could find something better. In the mix of wedding planning, I had to make a few adjustments and requested a revised quote to get a better idea of the total cost. My wedding is 4 months away and decisions need to be made like yesterday and I get that, but she became very pushy. We ended up getting a steal elsewhere (they even threw in a few extras) for a fraction of the cost. Well that's when things went down hill. I sent Gerry a nice email letting her know we appreciated her time but we were moving forward with another vendor. Her response? See verbiage from the actual email below: "I'm very confused. What happened? When you asking revisions, it is to secure our services" Come again? Asking for revisions on a price quote does not secure services. The number in our bridal party changed therefore we needed an updated quote. We were shopping around and getting quotes like any another consumer and we never gave her the impression that she was the chosen florist. But here is the kicker! Gerry proceeded to go back and forth with me at 10PM on a work night via email demanding why had I changed my mind and trying to bully me into paying for her services. Honestly I don't owe anyone an explanation for the choices I make concerning my buying decisions. As others have stated previously, Gerry's attitude and lack of professionalism makes her very hard to work with and I am sooooo glad I went with my gut and gave my business elsewhere. We chose Petals Edge for our wedding as we liked their concept and thought they understand our wishes. Once the contract was signed, I found them difficult to work with (I believe our contact was named Rebecca). I think because we were a smaller customer, they really just did not care. I had asked for rose petals to decorate our cake table and for the flower girl and she had ordered only ivory. I asked her to mix in some rose-colored petals and she said it was too late - even though it was weeks before the wedding, She also said she would decorate the ceremony arch with lovely flowers, but the finished product looked quite chintzy. We also showed her a picture of a tree/branch we wanted for our placecard table, which had different colored crystal beads hanging from it. She said she could recreate that, but the end result looked like Mardi Gras beads! Lastly, when she came to the hotel room to drop off the bouquets, she just had a real unpleasant demeanor, no smile, no congratulations, etc.. If she could not deliver what was promised/expected at the budget, she should never have quoted that. I would rather have paid more for quality. Perhaps she just took a really fat profit. Needless to say, I would not recommend her or use her again. read more

I'm sure the flowers would be absolutely beautiful if I wanted to pay top dollar for the top varietals. This is not a review of their product, but their customer service. I believe a goal of small business owners should be to make things easier for the customer, while being NICE and accommodating. I arrived to my consultation with a vision in mind (because that is what they advised, although I neglected to bring swatches or pictures of my wedding dress). The first thing she asked me was the color of my dress and decided to use that as ribbon for the bridal bouquet without asking what I wanted. I proceeded to discuss other details, but didn't get the sense that we were seeing eye to eye. A few "I have no control over that" and "you should increase your order size so we can get a better value" got me ready to look elsewhere. There was no discussion about my budget, which would have saved me a lot of time (how am I supposed to know that I picked the most expensive flowers? I just think they're pretty...) The proposal was over my budget, so I tried to tweak it by having one type of flower in one color, supposedly the least expensive way to go. This was the only advice she had--an example of doing a version with similar flowers would've been more helpful. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and her response was to question me about my choices. I thought she was supposed to answer my questions since this is my first wedding and they are the experts. I can say that I received the proposal in less than 24 hours and they are willing to match a competitor's price. Since Old Town is not really on the way to my venue and I'm having a morning ceremony, it just seemed more trouble to choose them for my event, and not worth delivery. I would have to put my arrangements in a fridge sans vegetables or pick them up a half hour before I'm supposed to be at the location. They were willing to take my order, but didn't seem eager to help. The reason I don't give it two stars is because I haven't "experienced better", yet. They have a good reputation but they need to simmer on the ego, because I don't really see what sets them apart from everyone else. read more

Petal's Edge provided the flowers for my wedding as well as the arrangements for the rehearsal dinner. For me, flowers were not a top-dollar item for my wedding, and I know very little about flowers to begin with. I had a private consultation with Gerry, who sat with me and listened carefully about my budget and didn't scoff when I told her that florals were not my main priority. She crafted a proposal that honored my needs (basic bouquets for the girls, little corsages for the parents, small arrangements for the tables) and also used simple white flowers, nothing over-the-top. Payment was easy and flowers were delivered on-time and as promised to both the venue as well as to the bridal suite, so I definitely appreciated the two-stop drop-off. The only item that concerned me throughout the planning period was when Gerry or Rebecca suggested I order an "extra" bouquet as they were concerned mine wouldn't last from the 3 PM drop-off to the photos to the ceremony, etc. This was nothing that was suggested to me during the initial meeting and planning, and I certainly didn't budget for that extra full bouquet. Luckily, I chanced it, and took great care of my bouquet, and it looked great all through the night and even into the next morning. I would say that, overall, my experience was very pleasant. Gerry and Rebecca were easy to reach via email, and were prompt in their replies. They also made it easy for me to include a special cultural element into the bouquets and arrangements, and integrated some special ribbon into the ceremony displays without any issue. They have a great know-how for what looks good together, what's in season, and they didn't try to gouge me, even with my floral naivete. read more

She understood what I wanted, didn't make faces at me, and made it all work without any fuss. Petals Edge was fantastic! They did not turn me down because I had a small order (if you call $800 a small order...), and really listened to my ideas and worked with the designs that I wanted. I can't tell you how easy it was to work with Gerry at Petal's Edge. She was so knowledgeable, professional and creative in helping me decide how I wanted to use floral arrangements in my wedding that I was immediately put at ease. She listened to my vague statements about what I was generally trying to achieve, she helped me to brainstorm ways to clarify my theme (something I wasn't able to do in weeks) and helped me understand how floral arrangements could be incorporated. She also offered other cost saving decorating tips (that had nothing to do with floral arrangements - she's just a creative person), and Gerry was even able to accomplish some outlandish ideas of mine on a very tight budget in a very sophisticated and classy way (my guests loved it). The end result was absolutely stunning. I loved my bouquet so much I nearly didn't throw it. It was the most beautiful bouquet I had ever had in my life. My constant swapping of flowers before the wedding was just fine with her, and she returned a revised contract in 24 hours or less. Petals's Edge was recommended to me by my wedding consultant, and they were definitely one of the easiest and most creative vendors I worked with. Many flower vendors I spoke to opted for the traditional because it's easy and most people will like it. I didn't want to just like it though, and I didn't want traditional. Love, love, love!! My wedding flowers were completely gorgeous!! They were more beautiful than I could have imagined. Every time I see a picture from my wedding, I can't believe these are my flowers. The colors, textures, and feel are exactly what I wanted. The price was right too. I met with Gerry and showed her 10-15 pictures of the types of flowers and colors I liked. I told her about my dress and my feather accents, which we decided to include in the centerpieces. They turned out so awesome!! I know nothing of flowers and yet Gerry totally got the style I was going for and it was perfect! The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is that it's a little more on the pricy side and after spending over $3000 in flowers I would think that when I asked 2 white flowers last minute to go on my cake, they could do it for free, but no she quoted me for $70! (Which we didn't add and my coordinator got gorgeous flowers for $20 at a super market the morning of). Consistent with other reviews, although Gerry does provide great floral arrangements, she is quite difficult to work with. Despite completing a questionnaire regarding the style and decor in which we were going for and providing photos of example flower arrangements, Gerry sent us a proposal that did not meet our expectations. It took several iterations to get a proposal that we were happy with. For example, we asked for bright summery flowers that did not necessarily match with our wedding colors. During a phone conversation with Gerry to discuss the arrangements, she indicated that an array of multicolored flowers at out venue could lead to a "circus-y" feel. We respectfully told her that if she would not fulfill our requests, we would be happy to take our business elsewhere. Overall, very difficult to work with and would not recommend despite her delivering very beautiful arrangements. For us, time is money, and when you have to expend extra energy and time "fighting" with the florist to do what she is being PAID to do, it isn't worth it. We would definitely recommend going with someone who may be a little more expensive but will respect your vision for your event. read more

Let me start off by saying that two saturday's ago I called to set up a consultation and left a message and a week later have still not heard back from them. According to their answering service when you call them it states that they do not work on Tuesday's, so there is no reason for me to not have at least received a phone or email. I was running errands in Old Town yesterday and decided to call them once more and give them a second chance. This time when I called a lady answered and I told her that I'd like to set up a consultation for my may 2014 wedding. before I even finished my sentence she cut me off saying, "don't you think you're jumping the gun a bit early?" I responded by saying that my Fiance and I are very busy and would like to try to plan as early as possible. I told her that I understood it was early but I expressed my concern for a spring DC wedding. Spring DC weddings get booked extremely early and are very busy for florists. She replied there are so many other things you need to do before you speak to a florist. you need to pick colors, linens, pace settings, and dresses. After she finished that statement, I quickly replied that I have finished all of those things. Shen then took a big sigh, as if I were bothering her and she said, in a sarcastic, hostile, and belittling tone, "Well, we're not booking yet for the 2014 spring season. call back in August." I read some other reviews on here and others, it seems to me, may have had similar experiences. I walked down the street to the Enchanted Florist and spoke with a lovely woman Gina who greeted me at the door. she did not hesitate to express her excitement for my wedding and set a time and date for em to come back and consulte with her and her staff. I had a similar experience, Per Kim G's review - except unfortunately I made the wrong decision and ended up selecting Gerry and Petal's Edge to do the flowers for our wedding (next month). From the beginning, Gerry was difficult to work with and I was sensing that we didn't see eye to eye. I saw many poor reviews of her and her shop on weddingwire, which concerned me a lot but I ended up focusing on cost. The price that Petal's Edge quoted me was reasonable, and closest to my budget, so we thought it would work out fine. IT DID NOT. [My advice to any bride: when it comes down to bad service, no matter how cheap it may be, go elsewhere as you do not want people who are not going to take care of you and treat you right involved in any aspect of your wedding.] The end for us was when I picked up a sample centerpiece bouquet (a month before my wedding) from Gerry, and was shocked at both the quality of the flowers and the fact that the bouquet was NOTHING like what we had discussed. It was a sad bouquet of about 15 flowers total, in the wrong vase, that was the wrong color scheme. Even another professional florist who saw pictures of the bouquet that I took (to send to my Mother who lives in another state) said it looked thrown together. My fiance and I tried to rectify the situation with Gerry - we tried to revisit our desires for wedding flowers with her via email, tried with her in person, and tried to get time with her on the phone - none of which worked. She finally made time for us last minute on a Monday (I had to rush out from work), and when we met with her, she was extremely rude, defensive and combative. In addition, as it sounds like Kim G. also experienced, once the contract was signed and we were trying to refine things, Gerry mentioned our budget multiple times. We had never discussed our budget prior to receiving the Petal's Edge proposal (which ended up being much lower than I expected) but I think I realize now that Petal's Edge tries to give you as little as possible for whatever you pay them. Ultimately, due to the awful centerpiece and continuing bad service, my fiance and I decided that we did not trust that PE would uphold our contract and provide the flowers we had discussed for our wedding day, so we ended the contract. Although her shop provided us nothing but an awful centerpiece, she decided to keep our $1300 deposit. Although contractually she had a right to do so, it blows my mind that she would think that the right thing to do. She is knowingly taking a lot money from us - for nothing. That is the epitome of a bad business. My advice to any bride considering Petal's Edge is to STAY AWAY. There are many wonderful florists in this area that will take great care of you, work with you, and have amazing ideas to provide you with a beautiful day. If you do go with Petal's Edge, be pepared to get ripped off. read more

Gerry and her team are true artists. We booked Petal's Edge to do flowers for our wedding. They included Gardenias, which are difficult to keep from bruising, and they arrived in pristine condition. The decorations worked so well with the venue and the table arrangements, keeping to my "French Garden" theme with Coral and Blue accent colors. It's so difficult to choose a florist, because you don't know if you are getting the best value. Gerry's proposal wasn't the cheapest, because they don't sacrifice on quality. I choose vendors who know when to take over the creative direction as well: be cautious when someone says "sure, whatever you want." You're a Bride, not a Florist. I loved it when Gerry told me "no" and offered a more elegant solution. That's why I picked Petal's Edge over some cheaper, more inexperienced options. You don't want a team of "yes men" you want a team of artists on your wedding day. And that team needs to include Petal's Edge! read more

When, a few months out, I changed my mind about the overall feel of things, she was patient and helpful, allowing me to hone things until I was happy. Gerry helped me over the phone arrange for flowers for my son's rehearsal dinner at a nearby restaurant. I gave her the color scheme and an idea about what the bride liked. They were delivered promptly and were such a value for the money. I received compliments galore. The arrangements were romantic perfection. I am pretty shocked by the unfavorable customer service reviews on here for Petal's Edge. I was there today to meet with Rebecca and go over the event design details for my wedding. I found her to be VERY pleasant, very helpful, very patient with my lack of knowledge of flowers and extremely accommodating. Petal's Edge came back with a proposal that was under my budget and included everything I was asking for - and then some. I returned home some time after my consultation this evening and had some questions ... within five minutes of sending my email to Rebecca, she replied with a detailed explanation and gave me a clear understanding of what I was asking about. I am in the early stages of my experience with this vendor, but so far, I give them an A++ on customer service. I will, most definitely, update my review as the wedding gets closer and when it concludes, and I have the utmost confidence that Petal's Edge and Rebecca will not disappoint. read more

Thank you sooooo much for creating the most gorgeous floral arrangements that I have ever seen! Everything was absolutely beautiful and blew away even my highest expectations! The overall effect of the flowers was nice, but this was by far the most high maintenance and difficult vendor to deal with. It has been a year, and the only thing that has kept me from writing this scathing review is my embarrassment in hiring her, despite initial warning signs. All of our other outside vendors (deejay, make up artist, cake) were absolutely fantastic, so there is always one, I guess! Our budget for flowers was not what the florist thought it should be, and I think this was reflected throughout our dealings with one of the owners, Rebecca. When we initially met with her, she didn't even bother to get up and shake our hands. That should have been the first clue to walk away. She even had the nerve to tell us that we should re-examine our wedding budget and allocate more to flowers. She thought $3000 was an appropriate number -- we ended spending about half of that. That should have been the second, but I had read amazing reviews on Yelp and heard good things from other people. Throughout the process, she was always slow to respond to our questions and was slow to get a finished contract back to us. Overall, I felt like she nickled and dimed us, almost punishing us for bringing our own vases (blue Herati vases that we used to double as wedding favors, which I purchased at the market in Afghanistan). The idea was to put one or two flowers in each vase, totaling 60. She jacked up the price and charged us per flower, claiming it would take her longer to do this that make 10 huge arrangements. Even in the best circumstances, the week of your wedding is busy, and you are tying up loose ends. I had to call her several times to coordinate the dropping off of the vases, which should have been a simple task, and it took up my time more than all of the vendors combined! She haughtily told me to remember to wash the vases and pull the price tags off. On the day of, I didn't even want to see or deal with her because I figured it would cause me more work! Although she placed the vases on the guest tables in the reception area, she didn't place the votives we had given her on the appointed side tables for the pre-reception cocktail hour, even though it had been explicitly written into the contract. Luckily, my bridesmaids were the A team, and did some recon, and were able to re-arrange things in a festive way. Finally, the bridal bouquet was nothing to write home about. I had asked for a bright fuchsia of all the same flowers (easy, right?) and I got more of a mauve. Again, I beat myself up in not following my instincts when I saw the bouquet. All the attention she required wasted my time, particularly during the wedding week. You would have thought with all of her demands and phone calls, she was the bride! Bottom line: if you are looking to blow $5000 on flowers, then by all means use this company -- maybe they'll be nicer to you than they were to me! read more

Very pleased with how the flowers turned out for our wedding on 11/15/15. Gerry was the third florist we met with and she definitely provided the most reasonable quote. She is honest and doesn't sugarcoat things, but she understood our budget constraints and was able to modify our proposal accordingly when we had some requested changes. Best of all, she nailed my vision for the flowers. The flowers were aged perfectly to be at peak bloom on the day of our wedding. Would definitely recommend Petal's Edge. read more

A review of their customer service, not their product. The main reason: did not see a single flower during my consult. How are you a flower shop without flowers? The room was cluttered, which while recognizing people are working, it could have looked better. It was also obvious, as soon as they realized we were a small order, there was no interest. She would not give us a quote on the spot and the came in $300 higher than other florists. read more

I planned for a low budget wedding in Old Town Alexandria but that didn't last very long...nothing is cheap in this area. In trying to keep within our budget I planned for the a Cuban-Mexican theme wedding and was in need of flowers. I will be honest that I had no clue what I was doing or what I needed to do to have a successful and beautiful wedding. I was referred to Petal's Edge from a friend and I booked an appointment with Gerry. I arrived at the small shop and Gerry quickly put me at ease. She went over several beautiful options and I was able to pick the flower arrangements that worked best for the wedding. I was a busy bride and was a little overwhelmed but Gerry and her team were extremely easy to work with and in the end the flowers arrived to the hotel on time and they were absolutely beautiful. The colors were vibrant and fit perfectly with our wedding theme. I received many compliments from the hotel staff that the wedding flowers were the best they've seen. read more
