After lunch at Han's Palace just a few doors down we walked to see other sights and a 50% off blooms sign stopped us in our tracks. Allan Woods Flowers had our attention before we even walked in. Walking in you are immediately drawn in by the layout. House plants and beautiful orchids greet you at the front alongside the kindest individual who made us excited about what was next. The blooms!! So many blooms in the fridge and outside that you can become overwhelmed in the best way. And they were all discounted. The roses were our immediate want. So many blush pink large mostly opened blooms screaming take me home and of course I had to listen. White, dark pink, red, and every other color in large and small varieties. They did not have my favorite bloom, peonies, but the selection more than made up for it. I hand picked six and my friend did the same. Going deeper into the space we discovered florists building the most beautiful arrangements. That is when I called my mom on FaceTime. She is a fellow florist and could name every single bloom she saw. I think that is where my love of flowers comes from. We grabbed our blooms for a get together we were heading to and made a quick pit stop at Union Market before heading out. The blooms had us moving with purpose. Allan Woods wraps everything in brown paper with thoughtful ribbon that elevates the whole experience. You leave feeling happier than you came in. He did tower flowers per my request and helped calculate the number needed. He added floating candles the contributed to the ambiance. I live nearby and have always been curious about this floral shop. Finally yesterday, I went in to pick up some flowers for a coworker who was celebrating a work anniversary. This shop has absolutely incredible live and cut planets and flowers. The very friendly staff member explained that arrangements start at $100 (I got the sense much of their business is call-ahead special orders), but they would be happy to put a couple of bunches of cut tulips in a glass vase for me, which cost a lot less (though still more than other places nearby). It's definitely a super-premium florist, but the quality and assortment was excellent. They also did a wonderful job of wrapping the vase in a box with paper so I could get it over to the office. I love to treat myself to professionally arranged flowers for special occasions. I buy flowers for the house on a weekly basis, but sometimes you want that special touch. I have been disappointed lately with the local florists where you pay $150+ for an arrangement and it looks nothing like the website pics. Not many vases but no matter... this is the kind of florist you go to when you want to bring an assortment of flowers home or to someone who already owns their own assortment of vases. The packaging of flowers is very nice too with brown paper and raffia string. Only complaint is that they are wicked expensive even if you buy on Fridays after 1PM at 50% off. read more

I've ordered and received many high end gift floral arrangement in NYC and thought this would be a similar experience for my mom on Vday but it fell far below par. 1. flowers were delivered on time but one of the roses fell off immediately 2. for $125 dollars plus delivery fee the arrangement consisted of grocery store roses, tulips and pathetic looking hydrangeas arranged in an unprofessional manner (hence why one flower fell off immediately after being picked up from the front door) My expectations were not unachievable for $125. Maybe some ranunculus or better than grocery store quality roses. Arranged in a professional clean or creative manner. Not stabbed into the vase in messy ways. Perhaps a notice after the flower were delivered at the front door would be nice. On the other hand a $75 dollar gift arrangement I sent my friend in NYC turned out beautifully. I'm a sucker for flowers & Allan Woods florist is no exception. They have gorgeous blooms and often have hard to find flowers (ranunculus, peonies, poppies, etc.) arranged in gorgeous bouquets tempting passers by. I just love their shop. What I do not love, however, is the prices. I stopped in the other day to grab some fresh cut stems for my apartment as my mother was in town and was STUNNED at the prices. Peonies for $10 a stem? Hydrangea for $7.50?! The sticker shock was intense and I left empty-handed and opted for some gorgeous Cala Lillies & Peonies from Giant that were just as gorgeous and only $4 for 3-4 stems. I will say that my boyfriend orders all the flowers he sends to me from Allan Woods and the arrangments are stunning. The Stargazer lillies fragrent and long-lasting, and most rencently the bouquet of peonies, freesia & hydrangea that is still holding strong on my dining rom table. They come in sophisticated vases and always last for at least a week or two. That being said, I cannot believe the fortune he must spend between the flowers themselves and the delivery charge.
