This place was amazing. Excellent cheeses and the wine tasting list was excellent. It's a must try for the area - don't skip!!

Thank god for cheese and lots of it, and then some, as provided at the Petaluma Cheese Shop. Located along a busy stretch of Washington Street in the heart of downtown Petaluma, Petaluma Cheese Shop comes from owners of Barber Cellars, a locally produce wine label, who brilliantly converted their wine tasting room which was located on the ground floor of the Hotel Petaluma into a cheese shop of their dreams. And who doesn't love cheese? Especially when the cheese is as nicely curated and served as it is at Petaluma Cheese Shop. Being able to partake in the wine pairings that Barber Cellars have provided for years here in this same location, enjoying a nice cheese pairing in the heart of California's dairy country completes the full circle moment, as they still pair the local cheeses and cheese dishes they procure with their own signature wines. What brought me here the first time was that Petaluma Cheese Shop was nice enough to host a special event here and we had such an amazing time here that a friend and I would return as customers soon thereafter. The menu at Petaluma Cheese Shop is all cheese all the time, as they do serve your traditional a-la-cart cheeses which are sourced from their refrigerated case which abuts their counter, but they also entrées in which they make right there at Petaluma Cheese Shop, including some very unique dishes including Prosciutto Purses which are melted cheese wrapped in sliced prosciutto warmed together to perfection, in addition to your traditional charcuterie, cheese and bread and butter tasting boards, which is perfect to pair with your wines. For our visit today, we decided to order and share their Burrata, which was accompanied by porcini sea salt, olive oil, and slices of warm focaccia bread. For this entrée, they added a new element to it with Pimentos Lagrima Drop Peppers added, which in turn helped to aid with the dish's overall acidity. The dish was so lovely that we were not afraid to ask for a little more olive oil to be added on top of our huge block of cheese. We also should have asked for an additional rosemary sliced loaf, as there was so much cheese to go around. For the road, I also decided to purchase a small block of Petite Creme - Marin French Soft Brie cheese for 9 dollars and a jar of Belfare Chili Crunch for 15 dollars. We had such a wonderful time enjoying our time playing games, including foosball at one seating, and simply taking in the ambience as city dwellers would pass us by. It would be a few additional months that we return for our second visit to Petaluma Cheese Shop, and this time they had a special sandwich of the month added to their menu, and since it was around Mardi Gras time upon this second visit, we saw that they had their own spin on the classic New Orleans Muffuletta sandwich, with their Buffuletta Sandwich served with ham, salami, Jardiniere pepper spread, burrata mozzarella, and no fewer than three of Alpine cheeses, which were all layered and served hot and melted on a focaccia loaf of bread. Served with a side of cornichons, which helped to even out the savoriness, this sandwich was one of the best ones that I have enjoyed in quite some time, as it was a perfect mix of heartiness and umami served on a plate. Made with love and detail, this special menu could be a keeper, as it shows off the unique types of cheeses that Petaluma Cheese Shop serves on a daily basis. Since I already had the crackers at home, I decided to order soft goat cheese known as "Dirt Lover" locally sourced from Green Dirt Farm, which was recommended by Lorraine herself, so I know it will be good. Petaluma Cheese Shop hosts events on a weekly basis on top of being a local gathering place for all lovers of cheese and wine. I can imagine myself headed here on the way to the nearby Russian River or local park to take some cheese and wine to go so I can enjoy the outdoors or they are now my go-to place when designing my charcuterie board for gatherings. At Petaluma Cheese Shop they are ready to craft you one of the best cheese and wine pairings that you will partake in!

Wonderful place to do a cheese tasting! Lots of interesting selections and the different spreads that came with the cheese was fun and unique. From sesame chili crunch to caramel, there was something for everyone. Definitely will be back to try more new cheese!

We stopped in for a snack and sat at the foosball table which was super fun! They whipped us up a platter of brie on mini croissants with fig jam and prosciutto right quick. We were on time crunch and the service was quick. They were super friendly. Overall, the Brie fig jam croissant dish was a nice presentation and delicious appetizer for about $30. I would go back and try their wines or charcuterie boards for more variation.

This is a long overdue review - we went in May of 2024 - we have recently moved from Oakland to Novato and have been looking for an equivalent to Rockridge Market Hall and their cheese department which features a lot of Marin / Sonoma cheese makers.. It's been a bit rough - local cheese makers sell individually from their stores which means lots of travel, and we work Sundays so the Marin Farmers Market doesn't work for us. Local grocery stores do carry a nice selection but we love the really stinky cheeses and so they are harder to find. So.... We made a reservation at the Petaluma Cheese Shop (and Barbara Cellars Wines) to see what they offered. They sell cheese etc to go and you can stay and enjoy various menu options. We had a nice bottle of rose with burrata to start and then their cheese board. Service was excellent, attentive, helpful and flexible - willing to create a selection of cheese we were interested in trying. The cheese selection is small but selective and very interesting. The presentation was great - guidance and descriptions for each cheese. We ended up buying quite a few we tried to bring home. We also loved how they feature other local products - these yummy drop peppers, a chili sesame sauce, and caramel and chocolate sauce. The space is chill and welcoming. It was a lovely afternoon. We will be returning later this month when my mom visits - it's a great place to bring visitors as well as just spending an afternoon enjoying good wine and an interesting selection of local and non local cheese.

If you love cheese, good service, cute decor, and great wine, this is the place you have to visit! I had the pleasure of coming here recently and trying their fondue as well as trying some of their delicious cheeses. My favorite cheese is the Maia and my favorite butter is the Achadinha creamery butter because it's rich in probiotics and super creamy. Keffir is also added to it to aid in digestion. You can bring your kids here as well, they have games for them to be entertained while you sip some wine . The owners Lorraine and Mike are incredibly knowledgeable and sweet. I will be back to do more cheese tasting and try more bites off their menu.

"Do you like cheese?" "Why yes I do, my favorite's Gouda." "I like Gouda too." ---Duke & Sebastian (aka Viola), from the movie She's The Man, Gouda, Gruyere, Raclette, Fromage Blanc, Burrata, Rahmtaler, Cheddar, Brie, Manchego, Mendonca, Pecora Nocciola, Mimolete, Pantaleo, Maia, Piper's Pyramid, Caveman Blue, Ricotta Salata, Brillat Saverin & so much more!! If you like cheese then this is your place, and if you LOVE cheese then this is definitely the place for you!! Whatever you like Petaluma Cheese Shop has it! And it's not limited to cows milk cheese, they have a variety of goat & sheep milk cheeses as well as the two combined (goat & sheep milk together)! I've been coming to Petaluma Cheese Shop since they first opened last year & I'm here every couple of weeks. It's obvious that I can't get enough of this place!! I've brought friends & family here to experience the delectable cheeses that come from all over the world as well as some local splendid cheese. Not to mention trying the various wines from Barber Cellars to go along with the cheese! The atmosphere & setting is very casual & homey, there are plenty of tables with chairs, there's a foosball table with seating as well as a video game unit/table & chairs. And yes the foosball & video game unit (Donkey Kong, Pacman, Frogger, etc.) all work so you can enjoy a little fun while tasting your favorite cheese, wine, crackers, charcuterie & more. Did I forget to mention the cheesy sandwich of the week? Yes, they have a sandwich of the week that you can also partake in eating. On this recent visit, 01/27/2024, my friend & I split the weekly sandwich called "The Sandwich." It was a buttery croissant filled with brie, balsamic vinegar, fig jam & proscuitto & it was TO DIE FOR!!! We also tried their new board called Proper Parmigiano & Balsamic Board....Another TO DIE FOR edible moment!! And one of the items on this board you can also order/buy on a board all by itself is the new Prosciutto Purses, these scrumptious little pouches/purses are sooooo good!! Ok, I need to say it - Prosciutto Purses are another TO DIE FOR delectable edible!! And the cheese tasting menu does change once in a while but don't worry, it's all good!! On other visits here I've tried the Alpine Experience (aka Raclette). This has now changed to the Fondue, which I've had several times along with the Cheese Pull, other variations of their cheesy sandwich of the week & the Charcuterie Board where I had my first taste of quince paste which was delicious! By the way, if you want to buy some quince paste it is sold in their shop along with meats from Journeyman Meats, crackers, whole coffee bean, balsamic vinegar and more! You can even order a large or small charcuterie board to-go for those special events or just because. Lorraine & Mike Barber's knowledge regarding cheese is astounding. And with the nice variety of local, national & imported cheeses that they carry they can help you with all your cheese needs whether you want cheese just to eat at home, for a special event or for a gathering with friends. They can help you make the right choice! Run, don't walk to the Petaluma Cheese Shop! You won't be disappointed!

Petaluma Cheese Shop is a must visit! We have been here three times now and will continue to keep coming back. Loraine is very knowledgeable and makes the entire experience fun and enjoyable for everyone. The cheese tasting changes each week and the shop is always getting in new cheeses along with other amazing goods (butter, balsamic, chili crisps ...) the list goes on. Take all my money!!

We stopped into the new Petaluma Cheese Shop and left with two delicious cheese treasures! We were greeted by Loraine and together selected two cheeses we had not had before. The shop has selection of local, national and imported cheeses to enjoy. The Petaluma Cheese Shop had a nice selection of local cheeses, honey, crackers, charcuterie and all to enjoy onsite or to take home. Guests can enjoy a wine tasting and a wine and cheese pairings inside the shop. We will for sure return on our next trip to Petaluma. This will sure be a fun spot to visit, shop and support a local merchant. Thanks, Sheana & Ben

Our group of…read more7 had a fantastic time! it started with a presentation on the overview and history of this family farm, then a tour of the cheesemaking facilities and barn where the dairy and beef cows hang out. We met their farm dogs, took photos with the sweet cows, and saw the family working around the property. We then ended with a tasting of their products: cheese, curds, and kefir (all delicious!) Since it was a birthday party, my friend brought a picnic lunch which we enjoyed along with the cheese. We ended by choosing to buy a selection of the cheeses we liked, to take home and share. I was thrilled to find they sell at my local farmers market - I plan to buy more of the Herby Curds when I've run out of cheese next!

While they sell discounted tickets for kids 5-12 and kids under 5 are free, we and all the other families there found the tour to be a real struggle for our little ones. We all felt a little misled about the experience based on the online description. It's a lot of standing very still (in rooms with equipment that shouldn't be contaminated by guests, or next to equipment that has cow poop on it), listening to the owner talk for long stretches. We expected more movement around the farm and time outdoors, instead of something closer to a lecture with a large group in tight spaces. It also ran over time (to 2 hours!) ending with a nice close up visit with the cows and some small cheese samples. We did really enjoy meeting the cows and learning the details of how cheese making works. It is a real labor of love. I think there's a lot of potential here; the Achadinha tour has all the ingredients for an awesome visit but could use some editing. This tour could easily be 30 minutes, an hour tops. We would've liked to stay and buy some cheese but by 1pm we were all starving and fled to find lunch elsewhere. Other parents shared they would've had a great time there on a date, but definitely wouldn't go with small kids again. I'll also flag that they require you to step through a decontamination footbath to go inside the facilities. There were a lot of miserable people in sandals who had to get their feet wet in the chemicals. Closed toed shoes that can get wet recommended for this tour.
