I started working in a preschool here in Petaluma and there aren't many options for food to get lunches that are nearby. One of my coworkers said to order sandwich at Charley's and swears they have the best sandwiches! I went to check it out a couple times but obly got their tuna salad and bought some pita chips as I wasn't able to order food beforehand. The tuna was soo good! Finally yesterday I got more time and ordered Haley's panini and it was THE BEST! Warm sandwich with turkey, cheese, pepperoncini and pesto cream! It melts in my mouth! I've been driving by the deli on way to downtown for years but never had the opportunity to stop in until recently. The experience was a bit strange from the start and the two people working (one at the register and one behind the deli counter) were both pretty aloof. The individual working the register was too busy engaged in what I can only assume was a very engaging conversation with another customer and the one behind the deli was MIA for almost 10 minutes while I waited awkwardly, unsure if the deli was even open. When someone finally came to the deli counter, I decided to order, pay, and get out of there as quickly as possible. I ordered a reuben sandwich, grabbed a beer, and paid. Then I was prompted to leave a tip - I was a bit shocked by this that I didn't even know what to do. I instinctually hit 20% and it wasn't until I was in the car that I realized I just tipped on a can of beer I grabbed out of the fridge and for a sandwich that I waited 10 minutes for, just to place the order.. lol. All other things aside, the sandwich was okay. A pretty good reuben, but far from the best. The bread was super thin and not well toasted so it became really soggy. Soggy reubens are the worst. We've all had one before - the bread just disintegrated and it just started to fall apart. Overall, the sandwich was okay but there are far better places in town to grab a sandwich that will at least pretend they are happy you stopped by, and won't ask you for a tip for the privilege of doing so. read more

The owner keeps petitioning to have negative reviews removed. This is why the place has such a high rating. I've literally been INSIDE of this place when posted as OPEN and the lights were dark, I *almost didn't go inside because I thought it was closed. Then I saw the older man walk by on the inside (owner/employee I'm guessing) Having genuine reviews removed because you don't like them is NOT OK. I originally reviewed from the issue of clarity. I genuinely drove 15+ minutes to enjoy what looked like a great deli only to find out that the deli was not open AS ADVERTISED and was a bit bothered over that fact. I wouldn't have driven over if it wasn't open Maybe the guy was having a bad day I don't know but what I DO KNOW is removing negative reviews because you don't like them is BAD BUSINESS. Let people form their own opinions that is the entire point of Yelp. 4/28/25 I'm updating my review to provide a screenshot of the messages between myself and the owner. I do not come on to Yelp just to complain for no reason. Instead of attacking a potential customer for my experience, maybe try actually reading what I wrote. I suggest putting clearer hours for the store so people don't spend their time, and gas, just to show up for a place to be closed. That's the part that I was hoping the owner would see. One day when I'm in the area I hope to be able to update my review on the food. I also want to point out the time of the message. I had gotten there at about 4 and spent a few minutes wondering if it was open due to the darkness and then went inside and spoke with the man there. His response was around 4:30pm the same day. What a hidden treasure off the beaten pass in quaint Petaluma. The ladies running the show were two lovely charmers. Quick witted and playful and true artisans at making fantastic sandwiches. Stopped by Charley's for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Charley's has been around for as long as I can remember but I hadn't been there since back in the day when Jimmy worked there. I knew it was back in the Terzian family but I just hadn't been able to check it out yet. We ordered a beer on tap. A very nice Berry White wheat beer. It was really good. With that we had the famous Charley's tri tip. The special was a panini tri tip with carmelized onions, roasted red peppers and pepper jack cheese. It was super fantastically awesome!!! For less then ten bucks it was a great deal that also comes with a side salad. You can sit outside on the patio or inside in the beer bar. It was a nice afternoon so we sat outside. I even ran into a high school alumni working behind the counter. I can't wait to go back and try more beers and more daily lunch specials. read more

Great spot for a yummy sandwich. My sister and I stopped here yesterday and it was my first time being in the shop. Very cute place. I had the special which was a meatloaf sandwich and it was delicious. My sister had the BLT and it was also a great sandwich. Special shout out to the Mac salad! It was not slathered in mayo which is awesome and no crazy ingredients, very tasty. I love the look of their outside eating area but due to SIP it is closed so we will definitely be back to enjoy our sandwich in the sun when possible. This deli has quite possibly got the best French Dip in town (Tuesday's special). All of the daily specials are solid choices, as well as the list of sandwiches on the menu. Which I somehow had failed to fully explore for some time. And they make their au jus in house. Oh, and the Monday special is a meatball sub. Which has homemade beef balls or homemade chicken something. But if you get a meatball sub, you get beef balls. Pretty much everything than can be home made, is. That French dip though... might just be perfect. They don't try to do much, and did i mention, the au jus is made in house? As in home made. I don't think my grandma ever even made au jus in house. Charley's uses high quality ingredients and they appreciate their customers; greeting me by name every time I walk in and out of their shop. This is an excellent lunch spot with a solid tap room and impressive beer selection. They receive some of the finest craft beers and charge a fair price. Ron and Stacy the owners are awesome. Their deli crew rocks and are always on point with their sandwiches. Charlie's has a great little beer and wine bar in the back and is the perfect spot to chill out, have a beer, and eat your lunch. If your looking for a sandwich to go just call it in ahead of time, pick it up and you'll be on your way. Came here on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a quick sandwich and grab a beer. This place is cute! They have a parking lot with at least 10 spots and a table outside to eat if it's nice outside. This is a little market, with wines and beers and non alcoholic beverages. They also sell some snacks and they also have a deli. In the back they have a tap room where you can enjoy beer and wine on tap along with having your sandwich. The workers here are very nice. I customized my order and got myself a turkey and bacon sandwich on Dutch crunch and i have to say this was probably one of the best sandwiches I every ate. This is the second time I'm reviewing Charley's... I had a french dip on Tuesday that was killer and a meatball panini last week that was TO DIE FOR!
