I recycle my cans and bottles here. I like the fact that they employ individuals that may have a difficult time finding work elsewhere and that they are a non profit. My favorite thing about them is that they pay in good old greenback dollars. Yeah, I have to agree with a lot of people on this. I mean, I literally go to Petaluma probably at least once a week for another reason and I've decided to just try Napa or American Canyon. It is not a quick process. You do have to lineup in the street in your car And I told my wife the first and then the second time I went, which seems to be the last time, Those were the most actively foul humans. I have been around in quite some time. I get it you might not like your job. Heck, you might not like your life. I hope you do. But it takes the same amount of energy to be neutral or actively awful. Another rusty link in the California CRV recycling system. Now that Western Metals in Windsor has now stopped accepting CRV due to insufficient payments to cover processing the material, I was forced to try the Petaluma Re-cycling Center. It is conveniently located in Petaluma but there is almost no parking so you have to line up in the street and wait for the attendant to let you in when a space opens up (20-30 minutes). Service is brusque but reasonably efficient once you get in but the whole process is a significant waste of time. Vending machines at groceries would be a much easier and more efficient solution or better yet they could scrap the whole CRV system and just go with curbside recycling. read more

I was terribly disappointed. I had a bunch of carboard from moving to Petaluma. Based on another Yelper's comments, I called first to see if they were taking cardboard. what I heard was "we are not taking any cardboard. We are only getting $xx for it and it's not worth it." If you're not taking clean cardboard what DO they "re-cycle" ? I had to have a friend drop it off at the dump and adds to our landfill. read more

Arrived with old cardboard boxes (clean, already broken down)- they do NOT take boxes despite what's online.

They keep the gates closed until a car pulls up . When I pulled up , I was greeted with a dirty look . When I parked , I got yelled at for parking in the wrong spot. They give you your water bottles back that do not have the label. But they keep your trash bags, that are worth more than 10 cents each.

July 2, 2020: The recycling center is again open, but they limit the number of cars allowed into the compound. About a 45-minute wait to get in, then about 10 minutes to exchange 68 pounds of CA redemption value aluminum cans. Current rate is $1.65/pound. Amounts over $100 are paid by check, not cash. Man I miss the satellite recycling centers we used to have around town like at lucky's. I have had four different employees at this center over the course of a year or two be so rude it was as if they were starting a fight. One was the old man with a grey beard, had a line or 7 people and purposely handled some other business like we was literally getting off on upsetting a line of people. One old lady started yelling at him and two people just picked up and left. Another clown a "millennial" sat back and handed out the funds, he was a little yahoo wanting to see your drivers license and he really acted like a POS. Apparently he has been gone a while, hope that stays. Another guy about two years ago ran around like he was on speed, apparently he has been gone lately as well. Last time this neanderthal looking dude was giving my a load of crap because one can was in my plastic, like get a life dude. Now, I have to say they have improved their speed the last couple years, and a couple guys are alright, but the shear fact there are so many miserable people that come and go hear I just can't even give them an extra star. That fat old man with a grey beard should be fired, the neanderthal should be in jail, and they should have some training on how to treat people. read more

Called with some questions and they were very helpful. I took my cardboard filled car and the drop off was easy. Beware that the parking lot of muddy so it will thrash your car but this is because I went on a rainy day. Call first if you are dropping off cardboard because they have a limit of how much they can accept daily. He also answered an important question about whether or not I can put a tv dish in my home recycling can which, according to him, I can! Woot woot! read more

I would give a minus 1000 for a rating if I could. If you want to be discriminated against, ripped off, hassled, to feel not safe from being bullied, left to be very upset even traumatized from a horrible experience then this is the place to go!!! When this place was managed by a man name Dave D years ago there was no attitude and all service with a smile!!!! I have tried to go here over the years since the changing of the guard so to speak and have been cheated in many ways out of being paid what I was entitled to receive. Let me tell you about yesterdays experiences I had here! On 08/13/2019 I took my 87 year old disabled mother to this Re-Cycling Center, she had her bag of 50 count plastic bottles and I had mine. I counted hers to be sure she had the right amount and she did! ( we had are own separate bags, we do not live together etc ) She was a man ahead of me in line because I was parking. The person who greeted her said " was she with me as all the Bottles would have to be together as one car". She replied I have my bottle and he has his". I do not drive and rely on him to get me here. Mind you we are talking a total of $2.50 cents total. He continued to harass her making her scared and feel unsafe and then counted one bottle one at a time but dropped two of them and said no you do not have 50 count you only have 48 and she got 10 cents less. I was outraged what I saw. How dare this this person cheat a 87 year old disabled lady. No one told me one car or dropped any bottles as I watched him less then 2 feet away. I called prior to see what the requirement were. Many rules and restrictions including you have to remove the caps and discard them prior to coming there or be back charged by them getting less ($). As I walked out the large man with the orange shirt and white beard who almost hit me on his fork lift two times followed me out going up to his worker who was having a smoke in front of their building were now both staring at me and my mother with dirty looks. They made it a point like a bully scare tactic to be seen by us being stared down in a negative way. To make it known to us they know and want us to know. ( Horrible behavior ) As to try to imply like my mother tried to pull a fast one over them for $2.50 cents after the worked cheated her for 10 cents already. I was parked on the street .They stayed there on the sidewalk ( I guess ?) hoping I would engage with them. Not worth it rather never go there again and do this testimony on YEP. How dare them tread my 87 year old disabled mother in this fashion because she was old. I have gone to the Santa Rosa Re Cycle off Santa Rosa Ave, for years now due to so many bad additional experience being cheated with bad attitudes at Petaluma before. So I regret coming her to see if they had changed. No they have not. Please if anyone has encountered being cheated or harassed or discriminated against please post your experience on YEP for other to be spared from these horrible people and bad business methods of operation!!!!!!!! I have had great luck bringing my plastic bottles here. The folks come over to my car to help me unload when there is no line. I don't go often, but it is always easy. When my grandkids are with me, they are attentive to them, such as telling them when some noise is going to be especially loud, or where to avoid glass. Took in some chimney pipe and liner. They grabbed it and when I asked what the rate was he said they normally charge to take it? Anyhoo, the whole thing was really bizarre. He apparently thought I was a regular customer who constantly brings him junk (first time there). He told me that there wouldn't be a payment after he already started driving away in the forklift. Stuff sells for $10-20 a foot used on eBay. Not that I wanted to store it in my garage until that happened but the option would have been nice. Not sure if dude was crazy, on drugs or uses the deja vu thing as a ploy to get free scraps? No clue but some clarity and communication would have gone a long way here. I'd probably have still left it just so I didn't have to drive around with it anymore. If you're looking to get rid of your metal the dump also takes it for free and doesn't come with a side of whatever the hell that was. read more

Let me start off by saying if I could give less than 1 star, I would!!! Take off any caps from your water/soda bottles or you will LOSE money! Yes, that's 1% you lose from your plastic totals. Yes, that may not amount to much, but what really gets me is their attitude!!!! I was just yelled at by the guy who grabbed my bags, and dumped them into their containers saying RUDELY "We don't recycle caps! Next time you will be charged if you bring them in with caps!" Well, let me tell you, there was NO next time! He wrote 1% CAPS on my receipt and I was charged. The kicker is that I was not given the opportunity to take my plastic home to remove my caps since he had already disposed of them. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! And would NOT recommend it to ANYBODY! We replaced our old toilet and had the City of Petaluma come out to confirm that. They leave you a form to bring to the Recycling Center. Drove into the Center on 2nd Street and immediately three guys open the back of our car and haul out the old toilet. Quick efficient service! We were in and out in less than five minutes. Now we are looking forward to the $150 rebate in the mail. Practically pays for the new toilet! read more

I have recycled bottles and cans here many times, and even recycled my toilet here. The people that work here are courteous and helpful with lifting heavy things like toilets, and they are very concerned with safety. However, no sorting of bottles and cans is allowed on site, so show up with everything sorted and ready. It's the best place ever for recycling. read more

Don't recycle here any electronics with computer-type capabilities. A few days ago I took in to the recylcing center a variety of electronics that weren't working--and stupidly neglected to remove the sim and memory cards from the old Dell Tablet that I thought wasn't working. Within a few hours--two hours past closing time for the recycling center--I got a message from Google that someone had accessed my Google account via the Dell Tablet. I immediately changed my password on that and all financial accounts and went down the next morning to tell the manager what happened and get my tablet back. The manager expressed no concern whatever about someone accessing my account, he barely listened to me, he only jumped up to look for it in the big electronics bin as if I'd dumped it by mistake and wanted it back. Then he said it would take a while and he'd call me when they found it (i.e., find out which employee had taken and tried to use it). Of course I should have taken precautions, I can't believe I left the cards in the tablet and made sure it definitely wasn't working, but these people are trusted with a lot of things like that and clearly no one is making sure there's no fraud going on. I did get the tablet back, with the cards in it, but I'll certainly never use this place again for anything, not even aluminum cans. read more
