this place is really nice, it's clean and very friendly. But when I saw this, I was completely shocked. Syrian hamsters or hamster"s in general are supposed to dominant, meaning that they can't be with other hamsters. They can literally abuse each other, to point where they can die. The hamsters I saw today were fighting for food and they were literally hitting each other and the white hamster was stressing out. It's so heartbreaking to see this. This place is an amazing pet store, but being a pet store you should be setting good examples to pet buyers. What if someone bought these 2, because they both were in the same cage.they would end up dying, or one of them would have been bullied by the other. Hamsters are not just toys, there real animals that breathe think and feel. My heart cries for them, the white one was completely stressing out and the cream coloured one was hitting it and moving it away from the food. Which is what they do since they're dominant. I'm giving this 5 Star personally to Jonas who works in the aquatic department. We originally came in for a pet adoption event which didn't go well because the ladies who were running the event weren't knowledgeable and rude. They're not a Petco employee but just throwing it out there. Anyways, back to Jonas. We were browsing the store before the event and my boyfriend randomly decided he wanted to get a fish tank. So we started looking at stuff and Jonas came to ask if we needed anything. Sure enough my boyfriend asked a few questions so he could get an idea of what kind of tank he wanted etc and Jonas was very helpful. We then went on to look at the fish and he helped us out and explained to us everything we needed to know and all the basic information on having a fish. We went back and I think he remembers us and gave us another amazing customer service. We live a little far from Anaheim Hills but we would still go back here just to see him and ask him questions about the fish. I hope Jonas get the recognition he deserves for being such a compassionate and gentle soul. He cares about the fish and the work he does which a lot of people don't who work in these types of stores. He is very knowledgeable in his department and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend others to see him with anything in regards to fishes. read more

I have to advise customers against grooming at this location. While I was waiting to pick up my dog, I witnessed one of the groomers getting frustrated and jerking the head and body of the dog she was grooming because he was scared, whining and fidgeting. It was so sad to watch, and the other groomer was clearly uncomfortable as well but didn't say anything. Some of the groomers are sweet but because I saw this treatment I decided never to take my dog here again. Wish I said something or could have warned that dog's owner. So sad. read more

I give up! This PETCO is sub-standard. First, every time I go there the staff are not helpful. I took my dog there for a self-bath. It was ill equipped, the girl that was attending the area did not give me any instructions. I asked for an apron and she gave me these half paper thin semi-aprons; the hose was not working well... in sum, you will be better off washing your dog at home in your toilet, it will be probably cleaner and you will not be charged for it. Horrible customer service!!! The "live" reptile food was everything but that. I opened just about every container of live food and they were all dead. Get a variety i checked the expiration date and the read "best by 3/30/20" that basically went bad as soon as the pandemic started and it's still sitting on their shelves over 2 years later! Bad, Bad- It was always that you couldn't make a grooming appointment online, having to call instead. However, the phone would ring and ring and ring, with no one answering. Very frustrating. Yesterday, I went to their website and there was an option to let me make an appointment, which I did for today at 3:00. This morning, I received a phone call stating that the website shouldn't have let me do that and that they were having to cancel my appointment because they were too backlogged. Additionally they only had 2 employees in the entire store, neither of which seemed to have any training. I'm going to The store, I find an advertised price for a clearance item I grab it. I go to check out and it's not ringing up so I ask for a manager. The lady with long salt and pepper hair in a ponytail, who would not give me her name or allow her associate to give it to me is not only rude but unprofessional. She can't explain why the tags are tagged and can't find me the item that is tagged then begins to tell me that I'm wrong for thinking that the item should be clearance since that's what they advertised. Then refuses to sell me when I ask for her name and info she then tells me she's going to call security I said, that's fine, I've done nothing wrong In fact I'm being extremely calm and she then started to crumble the clearance tag as though I was making it up. She will not let the other worker who is agreeing with us that she's out of line , which I have on video, talk to us or sell us the item so do you think as a consumer I'm right or wrong. If an item is advertised and it's very clear to the manager one under the advertisement or to try to find the item and which is being advertised if it was placed wrong. read more

3.5 Even though my favorite groomer Tara has moved back to the Orange location I still shop here for KL and have had two other groomers take care of King while Tara is on maternity leave, her husband Daniel works here and is so laid back and nice just like her, he listened to us and cut King precisely just like Tara does. I've also had Brittany cut King Louie as well, she accidentally cut King Louie's eye lashes off (I don't think she intentionally did it because his eyelashes blend into his face). I've never had a bad experience with the groomers because only certain people are allowed to touch King since a bad accident with a random groomer a few years ago. Also I've noticed they've hired some new cashiers one in particular that is very kind and has some act right lol! But the last few times I've come into the store I've noticed that their is only one employee at the front of the store, and when it starts to get crowded no one ever comes to help them, one employee can't do it all, and I know that some kind of management is lurking in the back office probably being lazy. If they could have more staff on hand for the front of the store it would be a well oiled machine! ^___^ read more

Ever since I got my new puppy, I have loved coming here. Every Tuesday and Saturday I make my way down to Puppy Playtime with George. He really knows what he's doing and always makes me and my pup feel welcome whenever we come in. I also have signed up for Puppy Training classes here with George, and every single one has been terrific. Extremely flexible training schedules and well thought out, small classes to help you train your dog effectively. This place is great! read more

My husband's and my positive experience has been shaped by one employee that works at this location, and that is George the dog trainer. The first time we came he was very helpful and polite. We had just moved to the neighborhood, and we had a great experience. We go there all the time, and George remembering us and our dogs just adds to the experience. We bought training packages after we felt our dogs would be able to listen to us, and we are so glad we did. He placed both of our dogs in the classes that jive best with their needs. The grooming department all love my Brutis. He is a nervous dog, but they tell me all the time how good he is. Minnie is our newest addition, and loves going there as well! Britney, Daniel and Sara are great! We had one or 2 bad experiences with someone who doesn't seem to work there anymore.. But the positive of those mentioned above outweighed that experience. We don't get the same at-home vibe at the PetSmart down the street. It's nice to have a place that we love taking our dogs to.. At least 2 times a week! read more

I waited a while to post this because I didn't want to get a well-meaning person in trouble. But the last time I came here with my mother, the individual had left so I am hoping it's safe to post this now. Short story: poor quality products, bad prices, discrepancies between what is on sale online and what is on sale in the store, will not price match, over priced. Long story: I have had very few positive experiences here. Not too many negative, but a few. My first complaint is that the products offered here are not that comprehensive: the selection between this PetCo and most of their competition (the big chain whose name also begins with "Pet") is ridiculous. When I had a betta with a bacterial infection a few years ago, my first thought was to go to the nearby PetCo (here) and pick up the tetracycline for the fish. Once I get there, the fish person proceeds to tell me PetCo does not stock medication for fish, at least not comprehensive medication like what I was looking for. Called the other PetCo and sure enough, they don't sell it either. Call PetS**** and sure enough, they DO! Call any fish store worth its weight in water, and they carry what I was looking for. When I asked the fish guy why they didn't stock it, he said it was against company policy. Apparently they're banking on you letting your fish die and restocking with their sick stock. Which brings me to my second point: every fish I have ever bought from a PetCo, this one included, have been sick. I learned after my second purchase, but not after I lost about 14 fish in already-established tanks (that already had fish). We also have many turtles and tortoises at my house that we feed meal worms to. If I pick up the meal worms from PetS****, no issues, decent price. Here, I always have to go searching through the containers to make sure the worms are alive, and even then it's a struggle because a box that is supposed to contain 25 live worms will often contain 12 live worms and a lot of dead ones. The final things that gets me, though, is the lack of forethought for some of the employees. One time I went into the store to look for more aquatic plants for my planted tank, which at the time had animals in it. I am peering through the tank and see a loach of some sort with ick all over it. Once the fish guy approaches, I say, "you know you have a fish in here with a terrible case of ick, right?" He tells me, "Yes, it's a rescue: someone brought it here saying they couldn't care for it and I'm trying to treat it without the normal treatment (which is not safe for loaches because they're a type of scale-less fish and the treatment is more certain to kill them than the ick. Also, we don't sell the meds for ick)." "That's well and good, but by doing this you have contaminated all of the pants in this tank with Ick, which can take up to 4 weeks without a host to die on their own. Meaning any plant you sell now or in the next month or so to a less-observant or less trained aquarium owner is going to transfer a parasite over to another tank. And since you don't sell the ick treatment here in the store..." "...Huh. I didn't think of that." Needless to say, I didn't pick up any plants (or anything else) from them after this. When I went back about a week later with my mum, the fish was still alive...still had ick though. This is why you keep an isolation tank in circulation I've never had the sense that this PetCo doesn't take care of its animals or anything like that. Indeed, they take in abandoned pets all of the time (two of my rescues are from a PetCo). But for the poor selection of products, poor quality of products, and the high prices as well as some of the obvious lack-of-forethought I have seen, I won't shop at PetCos unless there is a specific sale online for a specific item that I already use, and I know that's all I'm getting. read more

Our newly adopted, 4 year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (Liesl) took some basic training classes here. She already seemed to have a grasp of most commands but we wanted to train her to obey us as her new family. She is very large and we wanted our young children to feel safe with her. I really love this store! I have been coming here for a few years now to equip and feed my constantly expanding family of critters. I have only ever received excellent help and service here, and I love seeing the adoption pets on weekends. I felt compelled to write a review just now, however, because of a recent experience: I have never owned a hamster. Never wanted to own one. But I started talking to my favorite friendly manager dude the other day, and he convinced me to adopt a little baby hammy! This guy was (and always is) so helpful and talked me through the entire process of getting ready for my new addition. I got a great deal on his new home and food and some chew toys and treats, then donated $5 for the little hamster's adoption and BOOM! New pet! I never knew that it was possible to love a little thing so much. I'm so glad that I have this store to turn to for all my pet needs. I have been shopping at Petco for a number of years, but I never really considered taking my dogs there for grooming until recently, when it seemed as if every groomer to whom I would normally take my dogs was booked solid for the holidays. Luckily, the Petco groomers were able to take my dogs in the very next day, on Christmas Eve nonetheless. I tried to see if I could get the highly recommended "Tara" to groom my dogs, but I was told she worked at the store in Orange not Anaheim Hills. However, one of my dogs was to be groomed by Daniel, who is Tara's husband. I was told he was just as good as Tara. When I entered, I was a little concerned, because one of the groomers (not Daniel) was brushing one of the dogs, and it kept yipping in pain. I don't know if the dog was matted up, or what, but I told the groomer, who had greeted me at the front desk, that if either one of my dogs reacted that way to go ahead and stop immediately. I would rather come in to pick up my unfinished dogs, than have them crying in pain, especially since neither one of them should have any reason to do so. Only one of my dogs, a longer haired Chihuahua, needed a hair trim, and its hair was not matted. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, I was extremely happy with the haircut Daniel gave my Chihuahua terrier mix. I have never seen her look so neat and cute. I almost didn't recognize her; she looked like a completely different dog but in a very good, very surprising way. Either way, both of my dogs came out great and seemed to have been well taken care of. I would highly recommend Daniel if you're looking for a good cut on your dog. read more

Really nice customer service :) My dog is very specific with his kibbles. If the food doesn't go well with him, he either won't eat or he throws up. For this reason, we have to return and exchange kibbles when we buy new ones, but Petco staff is always very helpful with us. Plus, they price match! Also, check out their adoption dates! There's always cats, but the dogs will typically come on the weekends. Very sweet and they are all deserving of a good home. read more

Attempted to get my dog groomed. Waited ten minutes before anyone acknowledged that I was waiting. Then was told they were way behind and it was going to take two hours longer than planned. Not acceptable. The reason I made an appointment was so I could plan my day. I would have appreciated the courtesy of a phone call ahead of time letting me know there was such a big delay. Do not use their grooming salon! The manager at the Salon, Daniel, is very rude to say the least. I have been taking my dogs to them for years before he came on board. I like to use the same groomer and since he had done their cuts last time, I requested him. another associate tried to switch and I explained with a sense of guilt that I would try her but that I would like to try on one of them only. They may not have liked that or the fact that I informed them that one of my dogs had an accidental ear laceration one time and an infection another time. Today, 3 hours after having dropped them off , I received a call from the store manager that one of my dogs has to be shaved because the hair is too tangled. I had just brushed my dog so I knew that was not true so I requested not to proceed with a full shave on him. When I went to pick them up, I found out that the other dog was not touched either; Over 5 hours had passed and when asked why, Daniel ,made sarcastic remarks and facial gestures that would not be tolerated in any business. So feeling insulted I asked to talk to the manager of the store and walked to the cashier. my kids went to get the dogs. Daniel opened the wooden gait of the grooming salon, told my daughter to get the dog and get out; he let the dogs out passed the wooden gait without a collar or leash: my dog ran out of the salon! Luckily I caught her as my daughter was shaking with fear and screaming for help. Another employee walked up to me and tried to come up with excuses for the salon staff and blaming the dog! I take my dogs for grooming at least once / month and am well aware that they are responsible for the safety of the dogs; need to put the collar and leash on the dogs before opening the gait. I was repeatedly disrespected with the facial gestures and sarcastic remarks specially by the grooming salon manager, Daniel. The other employee and store manager argued and did not once apologize until I finally told him that as a manager he should consider safety of the pets and to think about the liability for Petco; not coming up with excuses or insult a customer by saying the dog ran out on his own; just to take a moment and think about how a dog should be handled, etc. I informed the manager that it is the most irresponsible action and to take a moment to protect / respect a long time customer or at least apologize ; no apologies until then. I don't think any human or pet should be treated the way they treated my pets, children and myself today. I was a customer since 1997. The end. read more

She asked me if I would leave my name and number to have someone call me back, I replied "no thank you, I'll call". And she hung up on me. Wtf I wasn't even done talking. So damn rude. Grooming.... Don't bother!!! Dropped my dog off for a bath and nail trim. I was told it would be about two hours, got a call 45min later that he was stressed out and that I needed to pick him up. I have taken him to a groomer all of his life and He has never been stressed before. I usually take him to a fancy groomer and thought that I would save a couple of bucks and give petco a try( you get what you pay for) When I picked him up he was still wet and smelled like dirty wet dog. I felt so bad for my dog it was raining out and he was freezing. I do hair for a living and I would never send a client home without finishing their hair and still charge them full price. This may be my first and last time bringing my husky to Petco to be groomed. Although they did a good job brushing my husky, she came out smelling like piss! As I was putting her in my car I noticed that her entire butt and legs were soaked in piss... Petco had my husky sit in a cage full of her own pee for who knows how long... I usually take my husky to a cage free groomer but I wanted to see different options available. I am unfamiliar with Petco if they even take their dogs to the bathroom.. But to allow a poor dog after being groomed to sit in her own pee is foolish. So much for my husky's $60 bath.. read more
