This is the closest Petco to us and is our go-to for food, etc. Generally speaking, staff is very friendly and knowledgable. THey have most of what we buy, with the exception of our dog's food which they carry, just not in the massive bag we like to get. Their adoptable cats always look in good health, as do most of the pets they have for sale. The birds always seem a little bored and lonely, but look healthy enough. I wanted to post an update and share how Petco handled this matter. I was promptly contacted by a Petco customer service rep who put me in touch with the store manager. The manager, Will, took the opportunity to review some things with his staff, and also to educate them on the grain free/heart disease issue. I am aware that it is a controversial issue. I was told they normally carry the Wellness version with grain, but happened to be out the day I was there. They plan to continue to carry it in the future. I had a very nice discussion with the manager and I'm very happy with the outcome. read more

Went to this Petco for the first time, and I had such a pleasant experience. I usually go to PetSmart, but I was pressed for time so I decided to check out this place. Simply TOP NOTCH customer service. Maggie & Bobbi were not only helpful, but you can tell they love animals. They spoiled my puppy with delicious treats, helped me choose items I needed and recommended items that might be better suited than the ones I was taking. I will definitely shop there from now on. We went to get our pets picture taken with Santa. Petco had allowed a German Shepard rescue group to be inside the store in the same area as the Santa photos. These German Shepards were lunging and barking at other dogs. One of the German Shepards grabbed my Maltese with his mouth and started biting and shaking her. My dog was yelping in pain. We rushed our dog to the vet. Why would Petco allow a German Shepard rescue group inside!!!! Especially when the volunteers are unsure of the temperament of the dogs. Why couldn't they be outside on the sidewalk? And why were the German Shepards sharing a space with Santa photos? It was an accident waiting to happen and unfortunately it happened to me. My dog could have been killed! She is under a 72 hour watch to make sure she doesn't have any internal injuries. I bring my dogs to Petco all the time for their shots. I've never had any problem with other people's dogs. I no longer feel safe bringing my pets (or myself) to this store. read more

I called into customer service to ask about a return, and I got a very rude employee. She hung up on me with no hesitation and I wasn't even finished talking. When I asked her a question about returning merchandise, she talked to me like I was an idiot and she was very abrupt. She couldn't even simply say "bye" or "have a nice day". This is a great neighborhood Petco. They don't have a ton of toys at this location but they are well stocked with dog and cat food staples and litter. Plus, the manager here is super helpful. She changed the store's order for Canidae Land grain-free wet dog food after we had a problem with the auto-ship from Petco Direct. Basically, Petco Direct sent us a expired lot of dog food that was dried out and nasty. Not only did this location exchange the food for us no questions asked, but they also agreed to order (and have followed through with ordering) and extra case a month so we could pick up what we need in store. So glad this place is convenient because we always get the help we need in here! read more

I stopped by to pick up some royal canin puppy food, it was aprox 11am and they had the music blasting throughout the store. I was not greeted by two employee did not care to even ask if I needed help. I found the section for the brand with very limited choices. Prices were 2x more then Amazon, PetsMart and local competitor. I had to track someone down to check out. NO STAFF WAS AT THE REGISTER. Found this one employee who looked like she hated life and she was so rude. I will take my business else where. read more

We are a military family so we are always having to find new places to have certain things done (hair salon, dental office, groomers, etc.) However, this Petco was a convenient location so I decided to give it a try. Love it. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Customer service at its best. Every groomer who has groomed my dog has been wonderful, especially Brian. And my dog is not the easiest to clean (Great Pyrenees)! Much of the staff recognizes us by name. I love feeling like a valued customer. Really great Petco. read more

Excellent place. Always friendly people. I went there because I had a sick Betta fish and the guy in the fish department (I wish I knew his name, he's a young African American man who has glasses and always smiling) really helped us. He also helped me with my bunnies. He was super informative and was really nice. You could really tell that he cares about animals and loves what he does. He is absolutely amazing. I go in once a month and he always remembers me and my bunnies and says hi. He's really cool. If you have any questions ask him he's amazing! read more

Horrible grooming service. My dog is short coated, so he doesn't need a full service grooming, but he does have black nails, so I take him to the groomers to get them done. This place only does walk-in appointments for nails. I've been there 4 times and my dog has only walked out with shorter nails twice. Not acceptable and a giant waste of my time. The first time I was not seen, as they sent their ONE groomer that was working home early. I arrived shortly after 6:00 pm. They told me to come in the next day when they opened and I wouldn't be charged for the nail trim. So, I show up the next day when they open and wait at least 20 minutes, with employees, while they await the arrival of their manager. I get the nails done that time, but not for free. There was no record of that conversation happening. Imagine that. The other instance, the ONE groomer was doing dog training and they said he'd be done in 30 minutes and he'd then see us. So, we waited a while. Then, another employee told us that he wouldn't be doing any more grooming that night. This time, my husband was with me and was very angry about the whole situation, as he knows that our dog has not been helped in previous visits. We decided to take him to PetSmart - he was seen immediately. They had THREE groomers on duty. It would even be nice if PetCo had a sign that said that they were doing training or that they were not doing any more grooming. I'd still be irritated that I made the trip, but I wouldn't be waiting in their crappy waiting area when nobody plans on showing up. If you don't actually do walk-ins, don't say that you do. The only good thing that came of this is now I know that PetSmart charges about $5 less for the exact same thing. They have all glass, so I can see what they are doing, versus taking the dog into a back room like this PetCo does. I've been to other PetCos and think that they are good. I used to prefer them as I think that their prices are a little better than the competitor, but I won't be buying or grooming at this particular one again. read more

This is a clean store and the staff are very nice and helpful. My husband will occasionally go there just to look around. We used to buy pet food from them on regular basis but we order our dog's food online because she has allergies and we can get a better deal ordering her food online. Let me start off with the fact the I have a 5 month old yorkie, so he can a bit difficult to handle when it comes to being groomed and I have grooming experiance from working in PetSmart, but Petco is right across the steet from me and I would groom my puppy myself but I have no time to since I manage two stores. I made an appointment last week friday for 4:30 pm for groom, bath & nail grind, I also told them I will wait him out since he can't be in a kennel. He doesn't like to be closed in. Setting up the appointment went fine, I called the day of the apt to ask if I can drop him off a bit early, I was told that is ok. He was dropped off around 4, was bathed and nails grinded by 4:30, so I assumed he would get groomed next. NO not what happened. He was tethered for 3 hours on the grooming floor with NO WATER. Mind you I am waiting on my dog this whole time, checking in regualerly to see how he is doing. There were two groomers in but at one point one the groomers swicthed over to dog training and one groomer left to finish off the rest of the dogs. I don't understand why there is only ONE groomer!!!! When my puppy was finally put of a grooming table things went ok, until we got to the legs and face. First off let me mention that one should never use clippers a dogs legs or face! Always shears!!! So of course my puppy would freak out. so as the groomer is trying to use clippers on my puppy's leg, he is pulling away and she is pulling him in towards her. This can cuase the puppy's leg to come out of the socket, very bad you do not force a dog. At this point I stop her from what she is doing take my dog off the table. I told her I wanted to speak to manager. She told me no one was available at that time, I did not want to pay for the horrible service I recieved and horrible experience my puppy went through. I ended up just paying for the bath and nail grind becuase she would not let me leave without paying her for what she successfully got done. NEVER NEVER Again will I come to this Petco for my puppy to be groomed. I will drive the 20 mintues to the PetSmart. read more

I had several questions about my freshwater tanks and the staffs were patient in explaining it to me, something that I hardly find in another Petco or Petsmart stores. I always go to Petsmart because it is closer to me but now I would choose to go to this Petco store even though it means 20 mins drive. read more

Best Petco in the area in terms of customer service. I interacted with 2 staff members that really went above and beyond. The first one assisted me with selecting a new type of dog food for my dog. She was very knowledgeable and helpful and even brought the bags of food to my cart for me. The second staff member that I interacted with was the cashier. She offered to update my PALS email so that I would receive coupons in my email AND she even helped me take my dog food out to the car and load it up for me. She even went so far as to ask if I had someone who could get help me when I get home. Not sure how she was going to help with that one, but it was very sweet of her to ask. This excellent treatment might have been due to the fact that I'm 5 months pregnant, but I have a feeling that this store just knows good customer service. read more

Went here a couple of weeks ago because a coworker recommended one of the groomers. We've just gotten a little yorkie, and this was to be his first time being groomed. Went in and the store was nasty and unkept. We talked with one of the groomers, Melissa or Megan or something like that. Talk about an attitude problem. I recently rescued a baby duck and I have been feeding her bugs. I went to the local Petco and bought some mealworms. I didn't think too much of what they looked like because I've never had any basis for comparison. A few days later I found myself closer to a PetSmart and bought their mealworms. The difference was night and day. Petco had WAY better mealworms. They were all moving with full life and had a healthy golden color to them. The next time I went to Petco I wanted to try out some crickets for my duck to eat. A few moments after walking through the door I was approached by a Petco associate and was asked if I needed help with anything today. I told her I needed crickets and she led me to them. She kindly offered to provide some basic cricket needs to ensure their longevity. She then told me that I could continue shopping and she would have them ready for me at the checkout desk. I proceeded to buy the rest of what I needed and met her at the register. She was very professional and courteous. With this experience and their higher quality goods I will definitely make the Petco in Annandale the only pet store I go to. She was not the only one who was helpful though. When I went the very first time, to get my duck food, I asked someone a question that they didn't know the answer to. They weren't shy to ask a fellow employee for help to answer my question with haste. I'm glad this store is in my neighborhood. read more
