We have had our two labradoodles groomed by Amy for six years and have always had a great experience with her care and the dogs' grooming. One of the dogs gets extremely anxious and Amy is able to calm her immediately. The "girls" come home looking beautiful with haircuts that look good for 6 to 10 weeks. I can't recommend Amy highly enough- she is great and just wonderful with our pets! read more

I have been taking my pup Buddy to Petco for years, always to see Aimee. He is a rescue mix and was always nervous around other dogs so grooming used to be difficult for him. Aimee changed all that. I bought 3 Indonesian whites tree frogs from this establishment that ended up having a severe case of worms. This costed me hundreds of dollars to treat. This store does not take the correct measures when getting sick animals. They say they do but my exotics animal vet proves otherwise. Thanks to poor husbandry on behalf of Arroyo Grande's Petco the customer gets stuck with a big fat bill. I had to be sure that the three new frogs I purchased had a clean bill of health before going into my vivarium, that's the reason I had my vet check them out. I can't trust this store The frogs were in quarantine and very well cared for since the day they were purchased. Very bummed out about petco turning out to be a untrustworthy place to buy reptiles and amphibians. -Update, $484.00 in vet bills. The first fecal sample showed active larvae and eggs in all 3 frogs. I did the medication for a month then took fecal samples in for the recheck. One of the frogs came up clean. The other 2 still have worm eggs but no larvae. They're getting better. Another month in quarantine giving them meds twice a day. read more

Purchased my new friend! A chameleon. Which he is a baby, 3 weeks old which I was told. The workers were very hands on with all of our questions and informed us about the care of him. This is our first time having a chameleon, and I must say we are obsessed! He is very calm and curious, loves to move around all in his cage. As well as we let him out for about 5-10mins a day so that he gets used to us.To top it off, he wasn't very expensive either, glad we made this purchase! read more

Went to Petco today and wore a mask like most customers. When I went up to the register the clerk had a mask on but it was not over her nose. When I pointed out that she should pull it up to cover her nose because a sneeze is involuntary she ignored me. Please have your staff wear masks correctly or don't have them work with customers . read more

I called to make an apt for my dog and first asked the lady that my puppy only has had her parvo shots not her rabbies yet and if she can still come in for grooming . The girl told me that was fine only parvo needed. So I make an apt and drive all the way to arroyo just for the girl to tell me dogs have to have there rabies shot as well. I was so upset . Maybe the managers should hold a meeting with their employees so they don't give out anymore wrong information. 1st off....I am appreciative of the precautionary measures taken during difficult times, but I needed pill pockets for my 14year old dogs medicine and was greeted rudely by a young man at the door, didn't get his name, letting me know I could not enter store without gloves AND a mask. Not everyone has access to both of these items so that they may shop. He also rudely let me know it was posted on the door. There was ONE sign out of a dozen mentioning the aforementioned....most of signs were pertaining to the cancellation of grooming and training classes. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years. Just very upsetting. Usually better service, happier service and understanding. Was even denied purchasing the pill pockets and giving my card and I would just wait outside. read more

Something has happened to this store. It used to be well run, clean and had a true dedication to serve people and their pets with professionalism and good service. The worst change has been in the grooming department. They cannot keep their groomers, do not know if appointments are made and do not contact customers when the groomers are no call/no show. Every week there is a new manager that is expected to provide service in a sub adequate environment. I had my dog groomed there for years and have moved on as I no longer trust this store with my beloved dog. Be careful. If you love your pet, find another store. I really like this Petco - super organized, super clean and staff has always been plentiful at the checkouts and always cordial. My dog accidentally pee'd here on time and a staff member said no worries and quickly cleaned up - so very nice of them. I go here about once a month to pick up dog food and a couple of toys for the pups and I'm in and out in less than 3 minutes - unless I take my dog in which case he gets distracted by the hamsters/guineas. The worst your lucky to even get one star from me but I had to select to be able to post so -stars, we bought a hamster & after the 30 days he got sick & would cost a lot to even get him help so we had to surrender the hamster to petco, so my husband said let's give them another chance, so we bought a Guinea pig well it's just over 30 days again & she's sick petco won't even help us, they sell animals that dont last long then want you to surrender them back so they can make them better & we're out another pet, this truly is breaking my heart & my 3 daughter's yet another pet that we're going to loss because it's right over 30 days & we can't afford a $1000 vet bill, I'll never do business with them ever again, I have never had such a problem with buying animal's... I have been contemplating whether I should leave a review for a couple of days now when I decided people should know how bothered these employees are doing their job. I live in SM so before driving to this location I called in advance to ask if they would accept a surrender of 4 of my crested geckos. The guy who answered said yes they would so I drove there right away. Upon arriving we looked for help and found no one besides the cashier who had a long line. We noticed her paging for help when I presume the manager came up to help her. When we explained we were there to surrender our animals the manager said she would not take them and started giving us attitude about it. Her attitude came off as not caring or compassionate. I told her I had called beforehand and they told me yes over the phone. After that remark she said "well I guess I have to take them in if we already said we would" like it was an inconvenience. Being a former employee i thought they would be in great hands but her attitude was so repulsive I took my animals back from her hands. I did not trust she would care or look for new homes for them. Luckily I found them great homes no thanks to their employees. read more

I went into Petco to buy cat and hamster food. My daughter and I stopped to look at the hamsters. We noticed two full grown male hamsters in the same cage fighting each other. We alerted the cashier Melody. She came over and separated the hamsters. She told the manager they were fighting. The manger Amberly pretended to act concerned. I had a weird feeling that as soon as we left the store, they would put the injured hamster back into the cage with the other male hamster. We decided to wait a few minutes and then returned to Petco. Sure enough, the two hamsters were back in the cage together. As soon as the sales associate saw us looking at the hamsters, she became very defensive. Saying that they had observed the hamsters, and they were fine together. Clearly, these two people are heartless individuals. I am truly disappointed. I will not give Petco my business ever again. read more

Worst experience ever!! I talked with the assistant manager 2 weeks ago and she was the nicest lady said I could bring my dog in to get cleaned up whenever I needed it. The staff seemed friendly until I called them this morning...the girl I spoke with was rude and not helpful I then asked to speak with the manager and she made me feel even worse. She actually made it seem like I was in the wrong. I will never bring my dog back to this store. Completely mistreated and I think they should consider hiring friendly managers to run a business. read more

Absolutely terrible! I got my dog groomed here. He was cut in three places and had dried blood. His whole coat was choppy and they didn't shave his chest at all. When I asked about his chest, the worker said his clippers wouldn't cut it. I told him I have got him shaved here multiple times and they never had this issue. He was very upset and took him back. He returned with my dog who was shaved bald in some spots and not in others. When I was still upset, he didn't offer any discount. If I hadn't already paid, I wouldn't have paid for that mess. My dog is a very simple cut. He doesn't squirm. He gets this service often. I have previously used this store and had Cody cut him. She did amazing. This kid must have been new but do not let the male groomer touch your pups. As I was leaving he was on the phone with another client explaining how he messed up their dogs cut and that "his clippers couldn't trip where they wanted." read more

This review is for the grooming department. Our two dogs had a 10:30 appointment and we were were told a pick-up time of 1:30. At 2:00 I called to see if the dogs were finished and was left on hold twice for almost five minutes; I then called and asked to speak to a store manager (Jerry) and was told not until 4 or 4:30p.m. We were told two groomers were on duty and the dogs would be groomed at the same time. Six or seven hours in a grooming salon is way too long. I am deeply dissatisfied with the grooming department at this PetCo. read more
