All I can say is they are mobile now and did a wonderful job on my boarder collie he was treated with dignity care and respect. My maltipoo is still being groomed with that said they were respectful on time friendly and I would recommend them. I do suggest making appointments in advance due to the nature of the business but they got me in on Tuesday and I had made appointment Friday after hours but they called me back to schedule appt. They are a great place to go get your fur baby a little bit of tlc. However, this last time we brought our dog in they stood us up on our appointment - we showed up with the doors locked and they didn't call us to tell us someone called out sick for work. So we rescheduled, and they did it AGAIN! We tried a third time because our dog was desperate for a hair cut, and they kept him there until 9pm on a Friday.. what?! I've only owned golden retrievers my whole life. I used to take my other Golden to shaggy & im not sure if there's new management or they hire anyone needing a job with no freakin experience, but my golden literally came out needing to be groomed! They didn't cut his nails short enough, he still cut my leg with his long ass nails. They HACKED at his ears, they're not even. I specifically asked them when I dropped him off that he needed water every 30 minutes. I told him to make sure that he gets water and i pick him up and we get home and poor Oliver goes right to his water dish bc they didn't provide water for him. the lady clearly didn't know what she was doing. When I got there she was running around the shop like a chicken w her head cut off. There was dogs crying and shoved in kennels. To top all this off, my dog got a freaking rash from this place! He had a skin infection 3 weeks ago & just got over it so I could finally take him to get groomed, and he gets another rash from their dirty tools most likely, or the lady not knowing wtf she's doing and hurting my boy. Started taking our labradoodle puppy here after he had a very traumatic experience with another groomer. The staff let us bring him in the day before his first appointment to meet the groomer and to walk around the back smelling everything. He was able to hear all the normal sounds a dog would hear while being groomed: clippers, dryer, barking, shower. Everyone petted him and fed him treats. Drop off the next morning went much more smoothly and he did great. He's been back three times and we've been happy each time. i can't even believe i'm writing this review. i took my sweet HEALTHY two year old cat to get groomed here (he's been groomed many many times before at other places) and when i picked him up (AFTER FIVE HOURS OF NOT HEARING ANY UPDATE REGARDING PICKUP) he was nearly dead. groomer downplayed his condition, acted clueless and as if it was no big deal. "he's breathing hard because he saw a dog". my cat was foaming out of the mouth and seizing upon putting him in my car to go back home. i rushed him to the animal ER and was told his lungs were full of fluid and his heart was failing. he was as happy and healthy as could be prior to dropping him off at this groomer. so much so, i had even taken him in for a routine checkup at the vet just 24 hours prior where his heart, lungs, and chest were checked and all was good to go!!!!! i was told by the dr at the ER that he could have been severely traumatized at the groomer causing him to go into cardiac arrest and/or the groomer could have NEGLIGENTLY gotten water in his nose and mouth, causing pulmonary aspiration. my baby died just shortly after in my arms at the ER. i beg you, do not. DO NOT. do not take your loved ones here. i wish id read the reviews prior. i trusted them and they failed him. i'm absolutely devastated. read more

There's several groomers in this town, & they are all very busy right now! (Good for them!) We are new to the area & didn't have much knowledge about who to go to for our Aussie/Border Collie who was very very long overdue for a proper grooming. Got an appointment here at Shaggy Dog about two weeks ago & brought him in this morning. I got a good first impression with the two people who were working in the front when I arrived. They provided great customer service & I heard them talking sweetly to the dogs they were working with & that gave me a comforting feeling that they were gonna treat my dog well. Well, it has been a while since we had our fur kids groomed. My wife has been searching for a while and found this amazing place! Very professional, friendly and clean. We were able to get our pups in quickly and very reasonable. As my wife was checking Sunny and Koda in a fellow employee opened the door to the back room ,got down on the floor with our dogs to greet them before taking them back. Sunny is usually a quick judge of character and Koda takes a little while. As the gentleman slow came out both my dogs went to him pretty quickly Considering haha. I felt my dogs ,kids, were in good hands. When they sent a message to pick them up my wife couldn't wait. What a Fantastic job they did on our two fur kids. Lynnette and Yvonne are the absolute best when it comes to having your pet groomed. Not only are they the best, but ive seen them work miracles. Literally, they have saved lives. Might sound odd in the grooming business, but when a cat comes in, long fur so matted it hurt the poor kitty to pick him up, its rear end caked with hard, dried, well....you know, infested with maggots, yes, living on the body of this poor animal...(sorry but its not always a pretty primp and pamper at the salon), when you see a helpless animal such as this, leave with a new spirit feeling 100% better, you cant help but to really appreciate the job of a groomer. The cat has since returned for a summer haircut. And let me say, cats DONT like to be groomed and typically cant wait another minute to return to their carrier. After lynette finished his bath and cut, and went to return him to his carrier, he, NO JOKE, made a point to walk OUT of his cage and rub on Lynette, undoubtedly to thank her for what she did for him then, and the first time he came in. When he was picked up, his owner said for himself that she saved his life. These situations dont happen TOO often, but when one such as this does arise, its good to know that your pet is in the right hands. Always a satisfied customer, and happy pet too. (Despite the resistance, pulling, nipping, and biting that you are almost guaranteed daily), the final outcome is amazing! Sometimes unrecognizable from the time they get dropped off to being picked up. These girls at the Shaggy Dog know their stuff. First picture is how this place CUT HER NECK, red like a rash from being skinned or thrown out of a moving vehicle. Second picture; WHAT DID THEY DO TO HER EYE!? My dogs eye is glued COMPLETELY SHUT! I pulled on her eye to see if anything in it and it's blood red; THEY DO NOT GIVE A F*** ABOUT YOUR DOG! The 3rd photo is from yesterday, her eye was fine. Last picture is how her hair looked after being cut in slo in the marigold center. Aka how her hair SHOULD have looked & what I wanted it like again; but with Shaggy dog because they're very close to my home. I asked for a short hair on the body bc she has a hernia and is having surgery Friday. So to know that I brought my dog in to look beautiful before a surgery that she has a high chance of dying from and she came out IN PAIN AND WORSE LOOKING THAN BEFORE...IM FURIOUS and more importantly..heartbroken. I cried bc they where in control of making my dog look her best before her big day and now I don't even want to take pictures of her. I'm ashamed by the way she looks. she could die and she looks like crap! This is the last look she will have before possible death and she's not even cute...she's in pain. I asked for short short body hair and the typical yorkie "teddy bear" haircut. MY EXACT WORDS. Why would anyone donate to her gofundme looking like a naked mole rat? This place is TRASH! Save yourself 2 hours of tears and AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! UPDATE! I took her to her hernia surgery and once my dog got out I found out SHAGGY DOG cut her eyeball and waterline. She had to have stitches and is on medicine 3 times a day for her eye for 2-3 weeks! So if you DONT want to have a emergency surgery on your dog and don't want your animal to possibly go blind unless you pay a surgery forward yourself. I did get the money back from Shaggy dog for her surgery but even the girl who personally cut my dog couldn't say sorry for herself. I just got a simple "she's felt bad all week" "we tried to clean her eye up the best we could" lol so your saying you KNEW you hurt my dogs eye and told ME it was "IRRITATION OR HAIR?!" Anything to cover your ass huh? Instead of a full hearted apology the owner Lynette said "I saw your Facebook posts, just lovely to see and deal with when I'm on vacation" b*tch idgaf about your vacation I care about my family! This was our first time having our pup groomed at Shaggy Dog in Grover Beach. MIchelle did a wash/blow/cut on our little terrier. She came out to greet us and took my dog into her arms and started talking to him! He was shaking when I was leaving (very attached to his mama), which always makes me feel bad. When I was called to come back and get him, I had a chance to see the grooming studio. He was in a good size cage and CALM! I think he liked being able to watch the other dogs in the room as they were being groomed. He was not left in a room without people or pet contact. Phone receptionist was extremely rude each time I called. I asked her if I can come in today for a cat grooming service (I called in the morning) and she told me yes they would call me. I waited around all day for a call and called again asking for an update and she said they would call me. An hour before closing I heard nothing at that point and I called one more time and she said they were not going to be able to do the grooming that day because the cat groomer is off (which she didn't mention in the morning when I called) and didn't even say anything after and hung up. I waited around all day, if she told me the cat groomer wasn't there I could have called other places due to it being an emergency situation. If you're cool with your dog sitting in a crate for a 5 - 6 hour haircut that used to take under 3 hours (11 lbs), and has no respect for what you say in regards to your animal, this is the place for you! I'll try to make it short. My final straw was when I called and said it had been over 5 hours, so I was checking on my dog's status. The rude person who answered said, "We haven't called you yet because he's probably not done yet". I asked what they had done. He had been washed/dried. I told them not to touch him and I would come get him right now. The worse thing about it was that when I got there they had started cutting his hair anyway. They didn't even stop right away when I was standing there telling them to stop. My poor dog looked retarded, and had to pee so bad as soon as we stepped outside. read more

How could you people possibly write positive reviews about this place? Let me tell you, I walked in to see a small breed dog being sprayed with a high pressure hose directly in the face, into her eyes and and ears. The poor dog was trying to breath through the water! And trying to avoid the force! My little dog 7 lbs was completiy traumatized when she saw the place after having been there twice! I've never seen her behave like that- she's always so calm and sweet. But it explained it all when I walked in to see a tech doing that to another small dog. It was horrific!! I asked for her back and left crying! If I were you I would avoid this place at all cost - no matter how badly your baby needs to be groomed. Do it yourself if you have too. When I reported what I saw to my vet, several other people who overheard me said they had experienced horror stories also. The owner should know what's going on also. And they should have cameras inside. Beware if you love your babies! I ended up taking my baby down the street to Dawns groomers!! I explained what I saw and that my baby was not the same when seeing the cages so they said they would love on her... And groom her gently like they do all their guests and clients. read more

Worst place ever. My dog was in a cage the better part of 4 hours. I came in after 2 hours and was told my dog was next to get cut. Maybe 45 to 60 min more. After another hour I returned. My dog had not been started yet. Told another 45 to 60 min. After I returned home 20 min later they called and said my dog was ready. What is going on??? Returned to pick up my dog and saw the cut was not performed the way I described. Nothing special, just the length around body and face I wanted. Took my dog home in my lap in the car... went inside my home and noticed blood all over my clothes. Yep, you guessed it, they cut her on the foot. I originally explained to them I did not want my dog to wait in a cage very long.....I would wait outside if need be. They couldn't even give me an approximate pick up time. So, if you want your dog waiting in a cage half a day for a 'cut' that is exactly what you will get.......4 hours of cage time and 'cut'....including blood. They really deserved zero stars!! read more

We have a medium-sized rescued Terrier mix (male) and although we had a couple of non-eventful visits at first groomer in town, they were heavily booked-up, and our pup unfortunately "reacted" to a second groomer and was sent home for his behavior. We called Shaggy Dog and gave full disclosure about his behavior, but they weren't bothered. They were prompt to answer their phone, easy to understand, and had a professional phone demeanor, all of which are important flags in my book. When I arrived for our appointment, another dog owner who was also checking her dog in, gave us her very favorable review and informed us that her dog wouldn't put up with any other groomer. A good sign. I left my dog and returned to pick him up when they phoned me. When I asked how my dog behaved, they advised me that he was "a little nippy, but he was fine" and then let me know that he doesn't like the dryer blowing in his face. This is what I call useful information! I've just phoned for our second appointment and was provided the same phone manners. They can give me the appointment that I request, and seem happy to have my business. I like that in a business! read more

I took my baby in today a shiatsu/poodle. I let them know she has dementia and to be super gentle with her. She doesn't t like to be brushed because she thinks she is being attacked so they could clip her short like last time. When I picked her up, she was completely shaved to the skin including her ears and tail her gorgeous fluffy tail all the way to skin! She was horribly traumatized! I had to get a sweater because she was freezing. All they had to do was call and say that they couldn't do her because she was to difficult, instead they said "they did what was best for her". Are you serious?? She's traumatized and embarrassed! All I wanted was for her to feel pretty for the short time she has left. I am beyond upset.... They have zero compassion. read more
