I was told two hours and at that time I went in to get him and it was another 3 1/2 hours before they were done. My 75 year old mother showed up for an 8:30am grooming appointment at the Batavia Location. Upon arrival the lights were off and doors didn't work to enter the store. No one was in the store to get their attention. Upon her returning at 9am they instructed that she needed to "pry" the door open in order to access the grooming part of store and she had to remake an appointment for her service. In learning this I called to inquire more about this scenario and the groomer said "they were in back and saw my mother driving away." But clearly being present for your first appointment isn't priority. If you have a business that requires special instructions to enter the store a sign or phone call to the customers using this service would be highly helpful! read more

Yesterday I opened my dog food bin and a bunch of insects flew out at me. When I looked inside I saw what appeared to be some sort of "nest" in the dog food. I immediately took the dog food to Petco in Batavia where I purchased it. I asked for the manager, she gave her name as "T", she wasn't wearing a name tag and she wouldn't give me a full name. She took one quick look inside of the dog food bin and said "I know what that is, it's moths". I asked her how she knew this and she said that there had been multiple returns for the same reason. I told this manager that I wanted to get different dog food that was going to be safe for my dogs. We had already been about 1/3 of the way through the bag of dog food and obviously my dogs had been eating larvae. I told her that I did not want to take the dog food bin back home even empty. I had purchased it at Petco and I wanted a replacement. My grandson and I began to look for an alternative dog food. I decided on a bag of Purina pro plan. We put it on our cart, and the manager stated "You're not going to want that". I asked her why and she said "there are maggots on the bag". (I have pictures and video of all of this) She told me there were lots of brands having the same problems, and she suggested that I buy a brand that she uses that had not been returned for bugs. The bag of dog food I originally purchased was almost 50 lbs, and I grabbed three 17lb bags of the dog food that she recommended. She told me that the dog food was more expensive than the one that I originally bought, she said that she could give me credit for the bag that I bought but I would have to pay the remainder. I told her that was not acceptable. She said that she could not give me the dog food for free. I told her I had a problem with this, and she notified another manager that actually came in from outside. This other manager's name was Abby. Abby said that I could not exchange my dog food container for new one, and that with regard to the dog food, if it had not been purchased within 30 days there was nothing they could do to help me. (It had actually been purchased about 2 weeks ago) At this point I walked out of the store. I will not return there. I have canceled all of my Petco reward memberships that are deducted from my bank account each month. I have an appointment with my vet to determine what danger there is to my dogs. When I woke up this morning more of the insects that flew out of the dog food were in my house. Please see all the pictures and video. This Place is a great pet-stop in Batavia, it's got an amazing selection of Pet Food- incidently the store brand dog food "Whole Hearted" is the food my Norwegian Elk Hound favors, the employees are extraordinary and attentive and their knoledge is impressive. They treat my pup like family whether or not she's coming in for a bath or grooming (which is top notch) or just stopping by to pick up a new bone or toy. I truly appreciate the attention to detail and care these folks put into everything and highly recommend them for all of your pet needs. I bought a sun conure 2 months ago for 900 dollars, everything to start ended up being 1300. Today the bird passed. I called the store an asked the manager on duty what the protocol was, she didn't know so she called her "manager". Her manager referred us to call corporate. I called the store back because corporate said that the store would handle it at there level to be informed that there was no manager on duty. She then gave me a number that didn't have a clue an told me call the store back that they will handle it. The "manager" on duty "te" would not give me any contact information not even a email for her Regional Manager copped an attitude becuase her staff is not trained correctly stating theres no manager on duty. When getting confronted she then stated are we going to talk about your dead bird or the lack of training of my staff. She was very unprofessional, not empathetic at all of the situation. She even hung up on me. Called corporate back an they aren't doing anything about it. Now I have to explain to my 4 year old that her bird died after 2 months of having it. They bird is under one. They won't do testing or anything. Not a very good business. read more

PROS: Biggest positive is that they house cats from the Genesee County Animal Shelter which hugely increases their chance of adoption, so a HUGE THUMBS UP for that. Giant selection of almost anything you could possibly need for dogs, cats, small animals, etc. Variety of levels of items (high quality, mid range, "budget"). Tons of different kinds of food especially for cats & dogs which is great if you have an animal with special dietary needs. Really nice collars, leashes, harnesses and pet clothes. Open buffet-style bulk priced dog treat bar. They sell small animals like mice, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, lizards, that you now cannot find anywhere else in Batavia (which is the ONLY thing I ever purchase at Petco). Depending on the individual you encounter, staff can be very helpful and knowledgeable. Store is clean, well-organized and spacious so your shopping experience doesn't feel cramped. They offer dog grooming as well which is useful for many people, though not me personally as it concerns me to think how much it would cost compared to trimming my dog's nails and clippering him myself. CONS: PRICES. They are completely cost-prohibitive for anyone with lower incomes. The least expensive bag of dog food was $10 for only 5 pounds (compared to places like Walmart where you can buy a bag of the same weight for $3). Or, the least expensive dog collar at Petco was about $10, where a similar item in other major stores is $4. Even the animals are expensive! Ferrets are $179 at Petco and are $129 at Countrymax, mice are $5 a piece at Petco and $2 at Countrymax. If you are willing to throw away boatloads of cash on spoiling your pets then by all means, Petco is the place for you; anyone looking for reasonable prices should find somewhere else to shop. read more

My wife and I decided to give Petco's grooming service a try. We were very wrong to think that would be a good idea. We had a very clear cut style we wanted and even brought a picture with us to show. Our puppy is still very young and had at cute puppy look. When we showed the groomers the picture and cut we wanted we were very specific that we did not want the traditional cut for her breed. The groomer said she understood. Two hours later we went to pick her up and she looked almost completely shaved the cute fluff that we express wanted kept was all gone. After being greatly disappointed in the fact that they can not clearly follow directions I went online to and found more negative reviews about Petco groomers than I knew what to do with. Hindsight really is 20/20 and I will definitely not be taking my puppy back there and will strongly urge everyone else that's considering going there to do the same. read more

I purchased a dog ball which was costly its the Leaps & Bounds romp & return well I have a larger dog & I threw it 2xs she retrieve & brought right back to me & guess what the ball wasn't properly sealed @ the manufacturing plant which I'm contacting next so I called the phone number for PETCO & I was told they cant do anything oh hell no someone will replace heck they can take the piece of garbage & shove the cost if it means that much to them I would like to thank them for NOTHING ha what a joke they stand behind everything they sell my butt! read more
