Hands down the worst dog grooming we've ever had done for our pet. When we arrived for our appointment, we asked the groomer to cut our golden retriever's coat a little bit shorter, nothing too far off from his normal coat, just enough to accommodate for the summer heat. When it was time to pick him up, we were shocked to see that he was practically shaven, no more than 1.5 inches on his coat. To add to that, there were patches around his neck and ear that looked so blocky and nearly shaved down to his skin, while parts like his tail weren't even touched. To add insult to injury, during the pick up process we were told we have to pay for the grooming before they could bring our dog out. We have never had to do before at this location, normally we can wait for them to bring him out and then they will ring us up. It's almost as if they knew we'd have complaints upon seeing how he turned out. read more

I brought my dog to the vet hospital and there are long waits there but everyone is friendly. No complaints there. The real issue is the grooming salon. We brought our dog there and it took 7 hours. He came out looking like a rat, he was completely shaved. Then he went on to shake for days and 2 days later started vomiting to the point he was throwing up blood. $1k at the doggy ER and a round of antibiotics, turns out both ears had under his fur, giant infected cuts the grooming salon failed to notify me about beyond "he didn't like getting his ears trimmed". This place is a scam. We spent $70 on grooming for a terrible outcome and then had to spend even more because they infected him and didn't tell us. Disgusting. Worst place ever. We almost lost our 1 year old dog due to the carelessness of petco. read more

I thought it was a great experience for my little pup until I got home and found the scratch in the below photo. When I called, she said he possibly scratched himself (the photo is most definitely not a scratch). She indicated that it was nothing done during his bathing, drying, or nail cutting, but that she would check with someone. As I waited, she hung up on me. I am extremely disappointed as my dog has suffered terribly as a shelter dog, and is scared of new environments. I will not be visiting this location again. read more

Waited thirty minutes at curbside pick up. Had to hit the "remind the staff button you're here" twice. To eventually have to come in to find a staff member standing next to my order doing nothing. Took my dog for a bath at 8 am. Wasn't finished until 10 when it should have taken tops 40 minutes. I asked for his usual aloe bath and no perfume spritz. What did she do- gave him the spritz. Asked why the bill was now $12 higher than last month and what I'd been paying. No one could explain. This has been a living nightmare, my dog is so traumatized and he is still shaking from the pain. He cannot sleep and had to get a cone put around his head so that we could medicate him. We took our dog in to Bay Shore, NY location for a grooming session with a hair cut. We pick him up later in the day and notice that the grooming was sub par which is bad in it self but when my wife and I looked closer at him, we notice that his right inner ear had been cut (probably by accident). I went back in and asked the groomer by the name of Kristen, M what happened and she told me that they didn't know what happened. When we brought him in, he didn't have that cut on his ear. The problem is that if they accidentally cut his ear then it should've been brought to our attention. We NEVER bringing our dog there again and I WILL be talking to the manger during the week. Reading these reviews, I think it is very unfortunate about the negative reviews. I live near here, and I go here all the time. The people who work here are so kind and so devoted. Some of them have worked there for years and years. Petco is clearly an imperfect company that could pay people more and have nicer stores and upgrade them. That's the company. But the people who work there are a different story. They always have full shelves of any and all the dog food and products I need. The toys are not the cutest. They are very kind to the animals and you can tell they truly love animals and that's probably why they work there. Also the Vetco clinics are very good. read more

This store doesn't care about the well-being of your pet. The only person willing to help was Mrs. Diane. I am from Texas visiting family for the holidays, and only had one can left of a prescription dog food for my dog. I showed the online order history, and even had my vet's clinic receptionist talk to the store vet, and the store vet refused to let me purchase at least one can without a prescription present. She was not willing to help me. I told her several times that I only had one can left, and she refuse to do an exception to policy for one can. I will never shop in a petco store anymore. read more

I placed order #81612439762774 on 2/7/22 approx. 11:30 am. Website says 2 pm is the cut off time for same day delivery. I never received my order. Contacted customer service twice on 2/7/22 and Kevin M told me I will receive the order by 7 PM. When I didn't receive it by 7pm I contacted customer service again Randy c said I will receive order between 9-11 am on 2/8/22. I called cut serv on 2/8/22, spoke with Katlyn who wanted to make sure I knew she did not work on 27/22 she did not apologize and told me my order will go to DoorDash between 3 and 4 PM and then it will be their responsibility my husband has to now go to another store and buy Wee wee pads and food. Alright so to start off , Petco of Sunrise Highway isn't a "Terrible" place to get Pets from but ... how they treat their animals is different. I feel like they could do a better job . Such as , ( Having Properly sized wheels / safe for animals/rodents ) ( Selling properly sized cages and better recomendations ) and just doing more research on the animals they sell. I love this place. They clearly take care of their reptiles better than most places. I bought two bearded dragons here 6 years ago that are still healthy and awesome. I highly recommend checking out how healthy their reptile are if you are in the market. One complaint is their feeder mice are $3.99 which is wayyyy too high. But they price match Petland discounts 1.99 price. I can't be spending double on snake food! People there are always friendly and it never takes more than 5 minutes to get someone to help me get feeder mice or to browse dog toys for my girlfriends dogs. But ask them to price match stuff. Seems to be pricey but a very organized, clean and friendly location. read more

The WORST Petco I've been to. Online pick up was so bad. One cashier on a Saturday, and a really long line. Finally someone else is called to help. He asks if he can say hello to my pup. I said "no, she gets nervous" told him from a distance (like by the register) is ok. He completely ignores me, walks over to my dog, gets down by her, in her face, says it's ok... I had to stand in front of her just to block him. I couldn't believe it. Why stress a dog out like that? Then he keeps trying to give her a cookie, after I said no thank you again. Then there was a problem looking up my order, even though I showed him the email. He tells me it's in the locker, and points. I didn't even know they had pick up lockers. I circled the store looking for it, no sales associates to ask for help. Finally, I found it on my way out. Because it was outside the doors. Total nightmare experience. Unacceptable. read more

Took my dog here for grooming. What a disappointment. I drop him off and they tell me come back in 3 hours! For a wash and cut? They told me it takes longer for puppies (bs). Well, 45 mins later they call and say they can't cut him because he's crying Too much and customers are complaining, and I need to pick him up. I pick him up and he's soaked and cold. And they still charged me $40. Do not bring your animals here for grooming. They over book and lock your animals up for hours before they even wash them! The staff is impatient and unprofessional! I went in the morning to get my dogs nails cut. My dog has a hard time with this, so he was crying and squirming. The girl who did it came out obviously annoyed dragging my dog out, she then handed me the leash saying with an attitude "your dog is not good!". We have been taking our dog here for training with Donna. We are so happy with our experience so far. The classes use positive reinforcement which was important to us. Donna is a great trainer. She is friendly, she takes the time to answer all our questions and her love of dogs shows. We have recommended classes with Donna to friends and will continue to do so. I love taking my Pit Bull to Danielle @ BAY SHORE PETCO! It's a great treat for my sweet Bullie. Danielle must pamper her like a princess because she struts out of there showing off her shiny, sweet-smelling brindle coat, wagging her tail & greeting all the other pooches & people! She is as HAPPY AS CAN BE!! **The bath was also EXTREMELY HELPFUL in quelling her skin allergies & the itchiness she gets this season. The Espree aloe hydrating spray Danielle used is really great. It has a nice subtle scent & I bought some to take home. ( ** i did NOT care for another previously purchased spray, Septiderm ?sp? which I returned ...with the receipt of course!) This has to be the worst petco I've been to. My five year old daughter and I went to get more fish for my tank and the women Jen refused to sell me the small fish I wanted claiming my tank was too small. (We have a five gallon tank with one molly fish in it). She said "It's in the best interest of the fish." And "each fish needs 1-2 gallons of water to swim by its self." Mean while petco has about 50 fish in each ten gallon tank. She just had an overall nasty tone and when I asked "Are you refusing to sell me fish?" She said "I can only sell you one." BEWARE OF FAT GROOMER! I just picked my dog up from the Bayshore location and as I waited for him to be brought out I watched as the "heavy set" girl pulled and twisted this poor little white dogs leg as she tried to shave him. she was so mean and angry she literally threw the buzzer. The other groomers just stood there and smiled like nothing was wrong and when I said "oh my god that poor dog" the bimbo behind the register said "he's a little fresh" I have just been traumatized! I decided to call the store and speak to the manager (Heather) instead of making a scene. I apparently made the wrong choice because all I heard was a bunch of bullshit about them being animal lovers. I told her that I understand the dogs may not cooperate while they are being buzzed, scrubbed, cut and violated but there is no excuse for that and they are lucky that was not my dog!!!! read more

I have a dog that is blind and they refused to give him a haircut. I told them before I went there about his condition. They told me that it was not a problem. I shop here often and usually never have an issue with the employees. Today I've decided not to go back. I went in to buy some frozen food for my snakes and walked out with a pinky, and a 3 pack of "fuzzy mice" and when I got home to defrost then I was surprised to find that the fuzzies were hairless and about the size of rat pups. FAR too large for my snake. With that disappointment aside I figured I can pick up food for them the following day. Ok, so it was time to feed my other snake and although the pinky was the right size, it was basically rotten and when I opened the bag after it had been defrosted (and no I did not put it in water that was too hot) it was basically black falling apart oozing. If it weren't for the thin layer of skin that remained holding it together I would not have been able to tell what it was. It the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Looked like they let it rot then threw it into the freezer. Too bad the bags don't allow you to see what it is you're buying beforehand. I have never had such a terrible experience buying something as simple as frozen snake food. Luckily I chose a good mouse for my larger snake but I guess considering it was live there was no way they could mess it up. read more

One day, we went to petco to go get our dog groomed. We usually have Danielle as a groomer, and she's great. But today, we had a different groomer. I don't remember her name but she was the worst groomer ever. Our dog was abused in her past and is really timid and shy. Usually, Danielle treats her wonderfully, but the new groomer was horrific. We asked for a summer cut because our dog has very long fur, and she has trouble with the heat. I was there when we asked for it I'm pretty sure we said cut, not shave. When our dog got home, she was shaking and pink in some areas. When we called the manager to ask what happened, he started to LAUGH. We had no choice but to go to Corporate. I would recommend petsmart to anyone who loves their animals and is against animal abuse. read more
