The staff here are always so helpful and nice when we go in. We have an old dog with a rotating list of physical and dietary issues, and the staff help us find the things recommended by our vet. We also adopted one of the kitties, and you can tell the gentleman who helped us (sir, I'm so sorry I can't remember your name) genuinely cares about the cats they help find homes for, and he was really wonderful at helping us get all the paperwork squared away. The only bummer is that you can tell they are understaffed sometimes, which is sadly just the reality of businesses in small mountain towns. read more

Been taking our little guy here for grooming ever since we got him. Today our appointment was canceled with an offer to reschedule. The cancellation message literally said we were getting bumped to make way for someone more important. I know it sounds like I'm making this up. I still find it hard to believe. My toddler wanted to check out the fish and was pretty horrified when he saw how many dead fish were left in the tanks. Fish were eating each other, they were suctioned against the filter, and there were like 20 dead fish at the bottom of the tank. Do better. read more

Buyers beware! Check your bank statements. I went in and purchased some treats and a dog toy. When i went to pay the female employee said that my payment didn't go thru and had me do it again. Then she said the payment went thru. Well my statement shows I was charged twice for my items. I contacted the bank immediately to have these charges reversed. Just be vigilant. I took my miniature poodle to Petco for grooming. I showed Eva B. a picture of the haircut I wanted and explained to hair specifically that I didn't want the hair on his legs short otherwise they look like toothpicks , well when I went to pick him up they look like toothpicks. She was nice to me but she didn't pay attention to any of my instructions at all. I very dissatisfied to pay $65 and get these results. read more

This location is a great pet store. They have a pretty good selection of items for dogs and cats, and it is open great hours in case of a pet supply emergency! 9-9 during the week. The reason I give this review is to pay respects to Roz. She is an employee there and an angel on earth. I have never met someone who so genuinely loves animals and knows exactly what product may be needed to suit your pets individual needs. She is honestly the nicest and most kind hearted person I have ever met. Big Bear Petco is blessed to have her, and we in Big Bear are lucky as well. read more

Filled out application for a cat adoption on Dec. 15th. Five trips to Petco later, on Dec 31st I found out my application was denied because "The cat can only be indoors" What? I wanted a indoor pet? And this might have been fixed by a call on the phone. Which was a part of the process, a call to the customer to notify them so they can either look elsewhere or come pick up the animal they fell in love with. But why would anyone want to do their job nowadays, nor would they feel any need to prideful of a good work ethic. Meanwhile the same five cats have been up for adoption for the last 2 months. And in that 3 weeks I could have had a pet from another source for my family's Christmas present if a phone call was just made. Not completing your job like you care affects people. read more

Fabulous store! We took our pup out to big bear for her first time in a lake as well as her first time in snow. We got to take her into this Petco and she was awarded with 2 really good treats by the store manager Chris as well as our check out sales associate Karen. The store was very clean and had a great selection. We ended up getting some fun play toys that included a Chuck it and a leaps and bounds romp and return toy. We signed up for the rewards program and look forward to seeing if more Petco's are this great. Our lab/Sheppard Bella puppy approves of this store and gives it 5-stars. She'll be back! read more

Good store But unless you have a small poodle or like breed don't take your dog there for grooming. They don't know how to handle any digs with an undercoat, the groomer told me she had 13 years experience. really? I don't think so, I got my dog back partially shaved almost through his skin. She said she couldn't finish the job because he was matted. I just had him at our vets, they completed the job without getting anywhere near his skin. His fur was not matted, she just had no clue how to handle him. Never again will I bring my dog there for grooming read more

Went to my local Petco tonight to pick out Christmas sweaters for my 2 beautiful cats. I went to the register asked Sarah if the dog sweaters would fit cats. She asked me if my cats were hairless cats because cats don't like to wear clothing to restricting or something like that. I told her they only be in them for pictures. So rude!! Nice clean store, friendly staff, but that's about all I can say. I've been to other PetCos, and they actually sell pets. This place only has feed fish, and Betta fish. They're more of a supply and feed location. They do have a grooming salon, but I'd rather go to VCA or at least a local business. They also sell all the typical trendy foods for your critter that are typically not all that "all natural". I buy my dog's food from local feed stores and only go here in a pinch because they're open later. read more

Being from the LA area, I as a consumer want a certain kind of service. I came to big bear for a few days and booked an appt for my 5lb teacup yorkipoo at 3:30pm. Headed down the from moonridge I got lost twice, but made it, albeit 20 min late. They close at 5:30 but said they counldnt take him. I didn't get a courtesy call asking if I was still coming but I was turned away. Two good reviews this store has are most likely employees because professionalism doesn't exist in this store! read more

I would love to give this store a 5 star rating....as the retail store is great! Always clean and well stocked. Great specials and healthy food. Outstanding customer service as well. However, I have been bringing my dogs for grooming services and today I was so unhappy with the lack of service that it compelled me to leave this review. Eva did a wonderful job with my baby. He received all the services I paid for and Eva was wonderful with him. The groomer who took care of my older, larger dog left me quite disappointed, and it wasn't the first time. For over $40, my dog was supposed to get a full bath, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and 15 minutes of brushing. The groomer suggested, and I was willing to pay for, an extra "furminator" service. It was $30 extra. I also paid extra for nail buffing, as the time before, my dog's nails were trimmed, but were not smooth. They were actually ragged, if you can use that word to describe nails. The groomer, who I later found out was the grooming dept. manager, took 16 total minutes from the time she started to brush my dog to the completion of all grooming services. This included brushing, nail trim, nail buff, and "furminator" service. She never touched my dogs ears, much less cleaned them. She didn't appear to enjoy what she was doing at all, and her grooming reflected that. I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt, but this wasn't the first time I felt the service my dog got was not what I paid for. I spoke to the store manager and shared what happened. She asked me to write down what happened. I was happy to. She removed the "furminator" charge and when I asked them to reduce the groom price as my dog did not get the entire grooming service I paid for, they took an additional $5 off. As I said at the beginning, the retail store does deserve a 5 star rating. But the groomer who took care of my dog does not. read more

I had to find a new groomer for my 14 year old Schnauzer (who is the love of my life :) ). I was a nervous wreck! Dorothy was amazingly patient with me and awesome with my baby! She took time to calm me down and assure me that she would take her time with him, and call me if he seemed stressed. She said he did great and I'm thrilled to have found our new groomer, Dorothy! I am getting my kitten in about 3 weeks and decided to come here to get all her kitty supplies and I am so glad that I did! Jeremy was such an amazing help to me! He went over different food, cat liters, toys, and everything else I would need. He was very patient and very informative. I came back and he remember me, asking how my kitten was doing, which I think is so cool! When my kitten is ready to come home I am coming to the store just so he can meet her! I just called Petco for a friend who has been struggling to find pet insurance for his dog, I asked for Sarah because she has helped me before and I like her professionalism if I have a question, she could have easily told me to look online but no she goes the extra mile and goes online for me and tells me where to look on the Petco website, she gets excited telling the different options that are out there in the pet insurance game, my friend will be so happy when I pass on the information given to me, its unusual to find someone that has been at Petco or any job for such a longtime but still have the attitude, enthusiasm and drive as if it is her first week in the job, Thank you Sarah, not only for the advice you have given me regarding my own cats and the kibble I was feeding them to the kibble I feed them now, they are healthier, their coats are shiny and they are two very happy cats because of your knowledge and care. I feel compelled to write a review of this particular Petco and to give a huge shout out to the two people that helped me and my dog boomer Jeremy and Dorothy. I had come to the lake for the day with my family and dog and we were just hanging out when all of a sudden our dog decided to jump into the dirty lake to chase the ducks. Our dog never swims so we didn't anticipate this happening and we didn't want to drive home with a wet dirty dog for three hours at night. I called around to find a place to bathe him but everyone was booked or closed including Petco. But after trying everyone I called Jeremy at Petco back and he spoke with Dorothy the groomer and they squeezed in a full bath so we could take a clean dry dog home. I am so humbled by the kindness of the staff here that I highly recommend them to any pet owner. Boomer came back clean dry and happy with a super cute bow tie attached to his collar. Dorothy and Jeremy thank you both so much!! You made our trip memorable in a good way !! read more
