My girls and I come here often for dog, snake and guinea pig food and necessities. My girls also love coming here to look at the different animals . They are gentle animal loving girls. Sometimes they will go inside the store without me for a quick grab of food for their pets and or a quick look at the animals of course! When they are not with me, they are met with mostly rudeness and disrespect from the female workers. I came across Petco only because they have a special litter for my older cat. It was the only place that had it in stock. Well, this pet store is amazing ! I love the food, toys , litters , and treats for cats. Great variety! I met a sweet bearded dragon that was posing for the camera. The staff were so nice . It was a great experience! We come here about once a week when our kids go to gymnastics at the little gym next door. One day we decided we were going to get a hamster, we had bought every thing prior and did all our research and just needed the hamster. We were helped by a very tall employee, but I can't recall their name. They were extremely help, knowledgable, and friendly. They also were looking out for the critters as they were advising us some of the hamsters would be too big for the cage we got. I like how they asked questions and made sure we were ready before adopting this critter. Overall the store is a bit smaller than others, but it is clean and easy to navigate. The only issue I have really had so far was with their meal worms. The size that we need they never seem to have, and some were even in there for 2 months. Most of the containers had dead worms in them for that size. They say we could buy them heavily discounted, but our jumping spiders only go after them if they are alive. read more

Just wanted some help in the fish isle of the store she was the closest I asked her for help kindly and was met with an eye roll and a smug "I don't know, go ask the cashier" cashier was busy with a ton of people in line while the loser in the glasses was acting like she was doing something on the shelf and proceeded to do nothing while I waited for the cashier to get through with the line of people he had at the register this was about half an hour while she did nothing at all. read more

Is there anyone that works at this store? Any time I'm unfortunate enough to stop in this petco, it's almost apocalyptic. There's no one working. On more than one occasional I almost decided to help myself with fish or crickets. This petco is nice. However, I am only giving 4 stars because they have a very limited selection of dog food and treats. I came for Purina One, unfortunately to my surprise they do not carry this popular brand of dog food. They do carry frozen/refrigerated dog food. They have a very limited supply of dog chews, treats and dog toys. I guess this is because this is a smaller store? I'm not sure. They do have a dog salon as well and plenty of fish for purchase. They had 30 % off dog and cat Halloween costumes and they even had XL size for my pup! I most likely won't be back because they didn't carry enough of what I needed. So disappointed!!! Took my puppy here because I couldn't see my usual groomer. A week after the grooming at this Petco, my puppy developed an URI. I was very descriptive about what kind of cut I wanted, which was just a clean up around genitals and face. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels do not require a lot of trimming. Their coats are normally left alone or lightly trimmed. The groomer did what he wanted to do and cut off the fur we had been growing since we got him. Although the cut was nice, you give the customer what they ask for, not what you want them to have. Or at least ask them if it's ok so it's not a surprise. As for the puppy training... I wasted 6 weeks and my money. I found out the person training Hendrix initially (not Michael) never did anything she was supposed to do. We never received a syllabus, graduation or certificate. We never reviewed anything he didn't already learn from puppy 1 training (another facility). Thankfully, Michael who is the new puppy trainer was able to help. He is very kind and worked very well with Hendrix. Michael and the cashiers are the reason I gave this Petco ANY STARS!! read more

From fresh treats to shampoos and all the plush toys you can take care of mans best friend. One thing that is great to see is that the animals and animal cages look exceptionally well maintained. FANTASTIC AFFORDABLE PET TRAINING I took my Lab mix, Koda, who is about a year and a half old up just to shop around. I knew my dog needed training, but I didn't have a lot of money for it. I ran into an employee in the Hanbury Petco named Jessie. She was very friendly, helpful, and energetic before I even mentioned training. A+ Customer service. My dog knew the basics - so he took the 2nd level class. He made a friend in class rather than just competition in his six week class. He was excited EVERY time and got super excited about 6 o clock. He knew it was time to go, and he KNEW every Thursday we got to see Jessie and a sweet golden retriever. She was very patient, and worked hard with us to help our high energy dog. Pricing was fair for what you get, and I think it was definitely worth the money. Jessie pours her heart into what she does. She'll care about your pet almost as much as you do. Her spunky personality and way with animals is something you can't find everywhere. If I could give 6 stars I would. read more

Petco is GREAT!!!!!!! This place is always friendly they know my dog by name and me personally. From when we first had our dog she was having troubles with different types of foods. One talk with Jessica and our puppy was fine and we've never strayed from it. They also have a great trainer in Jessica as well. Went to this location 12:30 in the afternoon very poorly staffed only one employee who is in the back. Had to wait in line for five minutes before someone decided to show up. The one employee was also a young girl who was rude and was not apologetic for making us wait in line ,if anything she acted as though we were inconveniencing her. read more

My family and I visited the Chesapeake store location on Friday January 22nd. We intended to purchase a fish for our young daughter as she had recently lost her pet fish that she had for years. Our family was looking forward to buying a new "friend" to join us at home. Our daughter had expressed interest in maybe getting a goldfish. So, I decided to inquire from one of the staff (Stephanie) about the size of an aquarium needed for a single goldfish. She told me that a 40 gallon tank was the minimum size. Our daughter had picked out a goldfish she wanted to purchase. So we decided to commit to purchase the goldfish for her. I found Stephanie and explained to her that we had a 50 gallon aquarium made available to us. She proceeded to doubt our ability to care for the fish without asking questions on our ability. She just continued to scold us on our inability to provide an adequate environment for the fish. I told her that our friend had offered to help us with the setup. But she was quickly dismissive and I asked her "so, are you refusing to sell us the fish?" To which she replied "yes I am refusing to sell you the fish." Stephanie just made set assumptions and was more interested in saying no to our purchase. Instead of working with us to find a solution and working with us. read more

My recommendation: Do not ever take big and hairy dogs to Petco for grooming. On May 6th, I took my fully grown Goldendoodle for a grooming session at Hanbury Petco. I have talked to the groomer for 15 mins and explained that this is my first time and please make sure you do not cut her too short. She assured me, you don't have to worry; we got it and will take care of your puppy. I dropped her at 12:30 pm and picked her up around 4:30 pm. I was shocked to see how they messed her up, and I could not recognize my dog and the poor thing they did not even let her go outside for bathroom breaks. I started crying in the shop, she had red rashes on her face, near her private area, and they did shave her so severely and unevenly. I have expressed my frustration in the shop; however, I had to leave the shop before getting too mad at the groomer. The next day, I received a call from Petco saying we apologize that you were not satisfied with grooming, they said they would refund, and please come to the shop to collect your money. Again, I received a call from the store general manager Stacey and requested me to come to the shop to talk, and she was not clear whether I should bring my dog or not. Over the phone, she was polite, when I arrived at the store, she was rude and told me we would not refund your money, and I confirmed with my crew your dog looked fine. I did not care about my refund, but I will never visit a store where customers are not respected and talk down to you like that. I was humiliated, and my dog's hair is ruined. We had our Wedtie groomed there last week. Ears not bad. Thay rsn a shaver down his back and called it done. Charged $47 dollars. When i complained they said that was a Westie cut. This is our second Westie. What we got isnt what a reputable groomer would do. No apology, no offer to redo. Just out $47. Never again. And if you look at their products all Chinese. read more

GROOMING NIGHTMARE!!! Called to make a grooming appt for my giant schnauzer. Asked the grooming dept if they could do a giant schnauzer cut. She told me yes. Upon arriving for the appt today, I showed the groomer pictures and even the clipper size(s) to use on her head, body, how much skirt to leave, etc. (I had previous wonderful groomers notes to share with the next groomer, because she was moving away and I had to find a new groomer) When I picked my baby up from her appt, the groomer that groomed her (Nicole) did not even come out to greet me, ask if all was to my expectation, etc, and she was sitting behind a glass window in the grooming areas where I could see, on her phone. Another person from the grooming area brought my baby out to me. My baby's beard is gone! Atleast 3 inches removed which I specifically showed her pics and physically showed her how I wanted her beard trimmed, nothing crazy, normal giant schnauzer beard. After grooming today at Petco, by Nicole, my baby was left with no skirt, no chest, legs not fringed etc. It looks like the groomer, Nicole, just switched to a longer clipper on the "skirt" and stomach and legs. Her head is the only part of her that resembles a giant schnauzer, despite the very short beard that was not requested. Worse grooming experience I have ever had. My baby is 8 years old and is a dream to groom, with zero behavioral issues. I will not be returning. I am sad. My baby even acts sad. And she is never sad and mopey after a grooming apt. ‍Good thing hair will grow. read more

It is a sad day indeed when the bettafish at Walmart look better than those here. There were only a few left, and almost all of them had fin melt/rot. There was algae and leftover food bits on the bottom of the cups, so I know they weren't changing them daily like they were supposed to. Not giving only one star because, in the past, I've seen them changing the water in the cups daily and treating sick fish. They also used to have a huge selection of bettas here; including koi, plakats, and kings. read more

I have a blind dog that is an old fella and the care and patience the staff has with him is unbelievable. Sometimes it takes two people to work on him and at times they have to lay down on the floor to finish his grooming they never complain and are so gentle. I would not take him any place else. read more

Again!!! Thought maybe the first one was so awesome just to get us back in the door. But Angel took amazing care of our pup again! He has a super thick undercoat and sheds a lot. The grooming really minimizes the amount! Angel makes my dog feel safe at the groomers as well. He was so happy going back which is the best indication to me of how they take care of him while he's in their care. Absolutely awful! I ordered a Deluxe Pet Snoozer for my cat on December 2, 2015. I was told that it would be shipped to me within 5 to 7 days from the warehouse. Today is December 12th and still no bed and no explanation from Petco. When I called Petco to find out when I could expect my pet bed, I got the run around and was then told they could not be expected to keep ship times on their website because Petco outsources all of their bedding items to be shipped to customers from other companies. This is no where on their website that this is their practice. I would suggest if you don't want problems buy from anyone other than Petco if they do not have item in stock in store. read more
