Love this Petco, this is where I adopted my adorable kitty! Back in the days before Covid when they could partner with local shelters, they had a Kitty Palooza weekend. Grieving the unexpected loss of my 3 year old Bengal, I was searching online for kittens and saw one that I couldn't stop thinking about. When I called Petco, they were closing for the day but told me the cat had not been adopted and they would make sure that she was there in the morning. I arrived at 10am and the minute they opened the cage and handed her to me, she couldn't stop purring and I couldn't stop smiling! She is the sweetest, most affectionate and playful kitty and I couldn't be happier. Now 2.5 years later, I'm shopping at Clackamas Promenade which I often do, and noticed Petco over by Target. In all this time, I had never come back! I had been there to adopt the kitty but at the time, never realized it was a Petco. Crazy! Especially since Petco is the only place I buy kitty litter since they carry SoPhresh, the absolute best litter on the market. Little tracking, no oder, scoops easily and lasts. 14 pounds cost just $6.99; $5.99 if you refill a jug, saving you a dollars and the environment. Coincidentally I had my 14 pound refill jug in my car trunk as I was planning on going to Petco Unleashed on the roundabout way home. I wondered in to fill up on kitty litter and check out the store since it's located in an area that I frequent. It's a large Petco with a unique footprint. When you enter, there are cash registers and the pet supplies are to the left, up a few steps. There are lots of dog toys, beds and clothing, along with food, bones and other dog supplies supplies. Some super cute pull toys! Also lots of cat supplies; dry and wet food, treats, beds, scratching posts, toys, and of course the refill station for SoFresh. Management - please look into carrying Nulo brand dry cat food. If Petco carried, I could take care of all my cat needs at one store. Petsmart and Broadway Pet carry Nulo, specifically the Hairball Management version that works and is a necessity for my two long haired cats. In the back area of the store, with a nautical theme, are the fish, lizards, and other small critters. The area was very clean with no fish or animal smell. They also groom dogs at this location. The staff is super friendly. The best part of my visit was getting to cuddle a Golden Doodle puppy who as there with his owner. The cashier gave me some treats to give the puppy, which we both enjoyed! He, the treats; me the love. Glad the receptors in my brain we're working that day and made the connection that there is a Petco at Clackamas Prominade. When I empty the last of the litter into the kitty litter pan, I always put the empty jug in my car so that when I pass a Petco, I can refill. This Petco is now on the list! read more

Made an appointment for a full bath, haircut, glands and nails for my dog. Petco has been grooming my dog for years. I Uber'd up there and was told that they couldn't groom her unless I had a note from my vet saying it was okay to groom her when she has a minor heart murmur. Vetco (Petco's mobile vet service) diagnosed her 3 years ago. You don't have that on file when your company was the one that treated her? So, $50 of Uber rides and half of a wasted day and I didn't get any grooming done. Never going back to this location. Read all of the other reviews, they're just as bad. read more

I took my dog to this Vetco for an ear fungal infection. They did not even rinse his ear out. They put medicine in his ear on top of the crud that was in it. This was three weeks ago. Crud is still coming out of his ear. This for almost $400. Never going back. read more

This is the LAST time I'm going to this pet shop. I have 7 fish tanks ranging from 100 gallons to 10 gallons and the condesending clerk would not sell me 2 Cory Catfish because I didn't have 6 and its a schooling fish. I'm 70 years old with plenty of experience in breeding Mystery snails and all kinds of aquatic life. Do NOT tell me what I can buy from you. You've never been to my house and a 1 minute conversation does not give you the right to choose what I can take home. This is not the first time I have been interrogated by the clerks here. AND the fish prices are higher than Petsmart. GO TO PETSMART!! They are friendly and hobby-oriented. In fact, they are super knowledgeable there. read more

Customer service is terrible the Karen at the counter told me I couldn't buy a fish because I didn't get a big enough tank to keep it in FOR THE NIGHT which I was going to get a cheaper one somewhere else tomorrow but she refused to sell me the fish even though I had valid id and the money to pay for it I just find it weird how a workers going to refuse to sell me a fish because i don't have a big/ didn't buy a big enough tank for it then and there like? Oh petco... I came here a little over a month ago and adopted a fancy parakeet, purchased supplies etc. Today my bird has tragically passed away- everything seemed normal at first glance until I noticed her tail bobbing and I googled about "tail bobbing" the results showed she could possibly be sick. I continued to monitor her behavior the rest of the time I had her, she seemed fine and that the tail bobbing she was doing wasn't a sign she was sick it was just a trait she had. Just a few days ago she started fluffing up her feathers more and with the temp dropping I assumed it's because she was chilly. Fast forward to today and my bird starts seizing and can't walk or hold any balance upright. Petco sold me a sick bird, not only that her wings were not pre-clipped (trauma prevention from flying into walls etc in a new environment) Petsmart on the other hand does a much lovelier job with their feathered friend adoptions, my other bird from there does well and wings were pre clipped. I hope petco can do better with their bird care and observation before sending them off to families who bond with them. read more

I brought my puppy in today to get booster shots. We usually go to Petco Glissen but Clackamas is closer and it was the same vet who travels in a van with assistant. We've always had a great experience, but today a young woman with purple hair, who works at Clackamas Petco, checked in she was immediately confrontational, stared me down, just kept staring at me, and then unfortunately, she was helping the vet rather than the person who usually does at Gleeson and she was rude to me, and also seemed to be lecturing the vet. He was too nice to say anything. this place is a dump anyway. if you live in the area go to PetSmart on Southeast Johnson just east of 82nd it's far superior and if you want to go to Petco or if you want Petco to treat your pet or give them shots go to Glissen. Or Lake Oswego Petco which I was at one day and it's great. Clackamas is the worst. I have only had good customer service or should I say any customer service ever there from one cashier who was great. PetSmart in Milwaukee is a whole team of great people and every other Petco I've been to is great. Clackamas is just a dump. I don't even understand it and that woman with purple hair needs to get a different job. I am not condemning people with purple hair. I'm alternative too. I'm trying to identify her specifically because I hope she or her boss or her coworkers or anyone will read this and know who I'm talking about. If I could give negative 5 I would. Welcome to Petco where you'll bring your dog for a basic grooming after scheduling an appointment 5 weeks in advance. To show up and wait 15 minutes with other screaming dogs in a room the size of a broom closest. To then be told they don't have a bench available and we will have to wait. What was the point of the appointment!?!?! So glad I just wound up my anxious dog for the worst service of 2024. read more

I just went to return a cat bodysuit that was too small and even though the clerks weren't sure exactly how to return it because it had been a same-day delivery with DoorDash, they stuck with me and found a way to return it. They were super kind and patient as I told them about the harrowing story of the cat I rescued who needed the bodysuit. I also chatted with the Cat Utopia volunteer who was super friendly and helpful with advice for another cat of mine that has gone missing. These people all really seem to care about animals and it was a refreshing customer service experience. This is just one example of PetCo being awesome to me in the last month (I also purchased a dog kennel for a Great Dane to contain my injured rescue cat, this was from another PetCo location, but still the service was incredible). I needed to get live crickets for my lizard. When I asked the employee for crickets she told me she had to go on her ten minute break first and then she could get them. This is the second time I have had to wait for someone to get off their break before they could help me. I asked the cashier if I could call before I come in next time because I didn't want to wait ten minutes for someone to go to break before they helped me and she said NO. I tried to get a couple of small comet gold fish for my 10 gallon fish tank from an employee with half dyed purple hair and she said I needed a 75 gallon fish tank in order to have one singular goldfish. She said she can give me died goldfish instead if I wanted. Why would I want dead goldfish? What a rude remark to make on her behalf. This store policy doesn't make any sense at all, given there were literally hundreds of gold fish in an at most 50 gallon tank at Petco. I will NEVER be supporting Petco again. read more

I am so happy I stopped by and asked about the frozen bloodworms I have wanted to get for my betta. Pretty big selection of different foods and all the extras for any happy fishie friends. They keep the "frozen" items in a clean and very organized freezer in the back. I definitely noticed how nice and clean everything is in the aquarium area because it didn't really have a smell at all. Everyone at this location is so nice and you can tell they love their animals too. I get great advice every time I stop by, even the cashiers take the time to help me. Went there for a harness for our pup. The store was filthy. We found the harnesses but we couldn't look at them because they were walled off for a one-on-one training session. Why in the world are you walling off merchandise for training? Couldn't help overhearing the training. The trainer wasn't doing anything!!!! I don't think I have had such poor service as I have today at the Clackamas Petco. Well actually not bad service. just ignoring us the entire visit in this store. No greet when entering. No hello on the isles from staff discussions of their Covid shots. No hello from the girl working on the fish tanks. Never looking up or saying anything. Or the girl that avoided eye contact as she rushed down an isle to seemingly avoid us. No anything...., We had planned to buy a filter for our aquarium but decided to just order online rather than from the folks here at this store. We also Were possibly buy a couple fish and a snail as well. The only person who spoke to us was a nice older lady feeding the cats near the door that we were heading too she offered my 5 year old daughter to pet the kitties. But we didn't bother her with our troubles of actually shopping here. Thanks Petco. read more

Petco does not care about animal welfare. If you consider yourself an animal over, you are a hypocrite you ever consider purchasing an animal from here. Currently, the Petco at 9078 Sunnyside Rd in Clackamas, OR has four conures kept in complete isolation. They have been there for SIX MONTHS. Their water is extremely dirty, their cages are dark, their wings are clipped so they can't fly or exercise, and they are going insane from lack of interaction and stimulation. Your heart would be broken if a kitten or puppy was kept alone for that long. Regardless of what animal you prefer as a pet, no animal deserves to suffer, especially ones bred in captivity and sold at Petco. I have added several pictures of the horrendous conditions Petco puts these poor birds into it. Like any birds, conures need to be a part of a flock, so keeping them isolated in small dark cages with their wings clipped is a recipe for an early death. Petco does not care about animals. They do not sell cats and dogs, so why do they sell birds? This is morally wrong and you must think about the world you want to live in when you spend money. Do NOT spend it at a place that claims to care about animals yet causes the suffering of countless birds (among other animals in their stores like ferrets). It's extremely sad to see the youth of these conures wasted away in dark isolation. Again, they have been at this Petco location for over six months. When I approached them, they immediately ran up to the glass and made two things clear: 1. They want to get out. 2. They are desperate for interaction with another living being. It was heartbreaking to watch and considering there are plenty of birds that are in need of being rescued, it's clear as day that Petco could care less about animals and only cares about profit. There is absolutely no need to keep ANY animal in an environment like that when rescue organizations like the Exotic Bird Rescue or Oregon exist. There are hundreds of birds that need a good home. Stop breeding them in captivity and selling them for profit, Petco! Their lives matter just as much as any cat's or dog's life! read more

I'm leaving this review as an average rating until the issue is resolved at which point I'll edit to move it up or down. On Wednesday my husband called to schedule an appointment to have our standard schnauzer groomed on Sunday. Saturday we received a text from Josie at this Petco stating that because our dog is large, they will not be able to groom him at the Clackamas Town Center location. Josie suggested that we call Glisan or Division. Josie said their next availability for grooming our schnauzer would be at least 2 weeks. Attempting to resolve this issue, he called this Petco and got to speak with an answering machine. I do not know why it would take three days for Josie to notice that our dog was over their supposed weight limits. I don't know why Josie would suggest another Petco without ensuring they had availability on the day that we scheduled. I don't know why, of the three appointments I've made at Petco for grooming my dogs only one has been kept. I can just tell you that this store is obviously terribly managed, nobody cares about customer satisfaction and it sure sounds like they have a big problem keeping groome. read more

I went to Petco today to get some supplies for my dog and hamster. I like the staff that work at this location. They are very friendly and helpful. This store always seems to be out of toys. Also, ever time I go in they are always unpacking boxes to stock shelves in the middle of the isles. They also never have a fully stocked area of hamster supplies. It would be a better shopping experience if they would stock the shelves after hours so the customer could shop easily around the store. read more

I went into Petco today hoping to find a scratcher for my fur babies. I checked online and it showed this location had 5. Once I arrived I was seriously disappointed. Scratchers none,cat toys none, hardly any cat food to speak of. Just one bare shelf after another If you look at the dog side of the store they are well stocked. A kind young man asked if he could help. I asked him if they were not going to be carrying cat supplies any longer. He just gave the standard we are short staffed so there is a lot of stock not out. Scariest aquarium department ever! Dead fish floating in almost all the tanks, plants covered in algae for sale, low stock in fish, such as NOT ONE catfish for sale when I went there!! The staff don't seem concerned with the condition of the tanks. I asked for a refund on one of my plants and they questioned ME on the condition of my tank for a $4.99 refund! Many tanks almost empty. Plants in almost all tanks look dreadful. Staff offered to test my aquarium water, and I thought, no thanks, I'll test it myself- maybe you should test your own water!! Maybe you shouldn't take your dog here either. Just sayin! Other than all my complaining, the people can be nice and helpful, but they should be really ashamed of their department. I've learned a lot about my aquarium from a few of them , but I think mangament is terrible for that department and I don't understand what is going on there. BACKGROUND - I have a cat and soon-to-be puppy. I usually get all my cat supplies from Target and Walmart because they actually share a very nice selection of kibble, treats, toys and other pet accessories for amazing prices. I came here today to stock up on puppy supplies and to get information about grooming. The experience today at this Petco, sucked. I can't think of another word. It really sucked. PROS - There were cute kittens showcasing for adoption. That's it. CONS - Went into grooming center to inquire about prices for puppy. No one could give me an exact price. Okay? Odd. Walmart didn't carry those popular Kong toys and there were some here. Above an aisle there was a sign that said (along the lines of) "we are willing to price match any competitor!" Went to pay and told told cashier Petsmart has those toys for a lower price, she looked annoyed and said she already ran my card. I asked her what can we do about the price match guarantee and she said that she can do a return (at this point I knew she hated her job). I filled out a slip for the "return". After she adjusted it, she didn't tell me the process was done. So I awkwardly stood there, stared at her and had to ask "so...are we done here?"...she nodded. Come on Petco, if you are going to post a sign with a cheerful "price match guarantee", see to it that your employees are properly trained to execute the promise. The whole experience at the store was annoying and awkward. Who wants to leave a pet supply store feeling that way? And you wonder why your competitor Petsmart is prospering? It's because they have knowledgeable staff in every department, including the grooming department and also because cashiers offer waaaay better customer service compared to what customers go through at your sad store. POINTERS - Petsmart, Target, and Walmart are all better than Petco. Went to Target right after Petco and found Kong toys 30% cheaper than at Petco. Never again will I venture into a Petco. I notice there are a lot of Petcos closing down around Oregon. And if they aren't closed down, they have low reviews...LOL not a surprise!. read more

Meh. It's the Wal-Mart of the pet world. All the staples are there, sometimes there are good deals but typically things are full priced unless you happen to hit a sale, the employees are lackadaisical and at times surly, and I would rather shop at a locally owned pet store but the only option near me is Scamps and I wont go there. We can't buy food here; they don't carry the good organic and natural brands, so we have to go to another store to buy that. It's our "we ran out of treats for training, get more today so we can teach her to sit" place. We did the six week beginning training here; it was awful. There are four dogs in the class, which is a good size, but the class is in the front of the store by the cats so the dogs are constantly distracted by everybody coming in and out of the store. The trainer goes from dog to dog so you spend a lot of time standing around waiting. The trainer could not have been nicer but she was sorta spacey and wasn't really sure what we were doing during any particular session. She really loves dogs and I think will be a great trainer in a different environment and with more experience. We are now with another trainer and the difference in quality is amazing, both in the facility/environment and instruction. Anyway, I'll continue to come here when I run out of something other than daily food, but I find better toys, clothes (yes, I dress my dog in jackets, she gets cold!) and other doggy paraphernalia at Target next door. PETCO doesn't have the Isaac Mizrahi Channukah dog collection, Target does. 'Nuff said. read more

My 16-week old puppy just had a puppy bath with Michelle in the grooming salon at Petco. From the moment I called to the moment I got there, she was so helpful answering my questions. My pup is a little shy and timid, and within seconds she had him wandering around sniffing and tail wagging around the room. When I got back to pick him up, he was running around the place like he owned it! It was the first time I'd seen our puppy warm up to someone or somewhere so quickly. It was really reassuring and you could tell he didn't mind the process at all. Plus, he looks and smells beautiful. We'll definitely be back to see her, thank you, Michelle! read more

Lilly at the Clackamas location is amazing! She takes excellent pride in her position as the dog trainer. She shows such patience and love for all animals but especially the dogs she trains. Her professionalism is terrific considering the chaos that is obviously plaguing this location. I would recommend Lilly to anyone who is looking for a truly gifted dog trainer. read more

Bad job for trimming and filing my pup's nails. So today I went in and paid a total of $15 for file and trim. All they did was filed his nails without trimming it. Took them under 2 mins. It was a very poor job. I paid $15 for an in-completed job. I don't think I will go back there again read more

I went into petco to return a item for store credit the cashier said I could not return the item without a receipt she never asked if I wanted store credit she assumed I wanted cash. I explained to her I am a pals member I know the exact date I made the purchase can we look it up by my phone number and she replies in a rude manner "NO THIS STORE DOES NOT DO THAT" I then leave call the Portland location and the manager on duty said that every store has a electronic file log and they can in fact not only look up my transaction by phone number but print out a receipt. The manager from Portland instructed me to get a copy of the receipt if there was any problems have them call him he will explain on my behalf. I go back into the Clackamas location ask to speak to the manager he was not there so the night supervisor came up instead he starts yelling at me in front of customers I am BUSY with ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHATS THE PROBLEM! I kindly asked him for a copy of my receipt so I can go to Portland and he says "NO" "I don't care about the policy I'm not going to do anything get out of MY STORE" "I am refusing service to you" the cashier is laughing literally they think it's ok to talk and treat people any way I spend over $500 a month at petco I have 2 adult dogs and 2 new puppies I bring in all the time and everybody loves I don't like the way I was belittled in front of people and spoken to like I was a child and kicked out the store just because I wanted my receipt this is beyond unacceptable. The supervisor and cashier both refused to give me their names. I will be glad to take my family and business to petsmart. Do not shop at petco in Clackamas the employees are rude discourteous they lack the basic customer service skills and apparently they do not follow any policy's at that location and have a rogue style of running it. the store belongs to the supervisor he makes the rules I wasn't aware one person had so much power within a corporate business. read more

Roseanna Feeney is the best trainer. My dog Dukus, a mini Australlian Shepherd was nearly untrainable I thought. Roseanna proved me wrong. Dukus took a liking to her very quickly. She is so caring and compassionate about all the dogs that come into her class. I was so blessed by her and still am. I recommend her to everyone. No matter what size, breed, age, and circumstance.
