This business has been here for years. I will shop here over big name retail stores. They have what you need. When you need help they're very helpful, yet if you just want to look around, and take your time they let you. They don't hunt you down and watch you. Every place you go is going to have at least one person that has a bad day or isn't a nice person, but that isn't a reason for a bad review. people are just getting so negative with everything anymore. I would give zero stars if I could. I stopped by just to check this place out last night. I was in the neighborhood and love viewing animals. I am appalled at their rabbit care. Both adult rabbits were forced to stand on metal grating as there was no solid surface on the floor of their cage. 1 of the adult rabbits also had a metal grate in their litter box. All 3 rabbit enclosures had dried corn, unshelled peanuts, and no hay in their food bowl. DO NOT SHOP HERE! read more

I remember going into this business the day that it opened, back in the eighties. Back then, Creature Comforts was amazing, so I decided to stop in, to see if they still had the giant turtles on display. The giant turtles were gone, but I saw some awesome fish that were called, "Daisy's Rice Fish." They were neat, but I had never heard of a, "Daisy's Rice Fish,"- Ever. I suspected that these neat little fish were actually Endler / Guppy hybrids. I wanted to research them, to see if they were aquarium community compatible, like a standard guppy. Now, here's my warning to all: CREATURE COMFORTS is a dead zone when it comes to Wi-Fi. I had no signal at all. My phone usually auto-connects to available WiFi. I decided to do a scan to check for available connections, and I found: "CREATURE COMFORTS -Guest." I'm ecstatic! They have WI-FI and now I can research whether these darling fish will be good for my tank! I walked around the store and looked for a wi-fi password, to no avail, so I asked an employee with grey hair: "Excuse me, Ma'am, what is your WI-Fi password?" "I. Don't. Know," she curtly replied. Ok. Wow. Yikes. (Must've been having a bad day). I walked around looking for a sign on the walls and in the aisles. Surely, I am missing an obvious sign, because the cashier doesn't know their own WI-Fi password - it must be so obvious! I asked another employee: "Excuse me, Sir. What is your WI-Fi password?" "We are not allowed to give it out." "My phone says you have a public wi-fi...i just need to research those yellow fish to see if they are compatible with my other fish..." "I'm sorry. We are not allowed to give it out," he repeated. I stared at him, wordlessly, then he perkily said, "You out could go to Starbucks next door?" "Really? There's a Starbucks next door? I didn't see that!" "Well, the Fred Meyer that's down the way...." Why would I walk to Fred Meyer, about 3 blocks away, to pirate their wifi signal, in order to google information about a pet that I want to buy, from YOUR STORE? No explanation as to why, but at least this guy was nice about it. I asked him about the fish I wanted to buy, which turned out to be the Endler Guppy hybrids that I thought they were. Then I found another employee, with purple hair, that was in the fish section. She helped me, by answering most of my questions. I ended up buying four fish, and a plant, but honestly... I would not have bought anything, if I had NOT ran into the purple-haired employee, who was customer-service oriented, and seemed happy to help. To The Owner of Creature Comforts: It's just a wi-fi password... It's not a key to Fort Knox, for goodness sakes! Why have a public wi-fi option, if you refuse to give out the wifi password? You MUST understand that most of us like to do a little bit of research, prior to bringing a pet home. 99.5% of us are not WiFi thieves, and don't like to be treated as such. You should probably get rid of the public wi-fi option that popped up on my phone, when I scanned for WiFi, if you don't want people to ask. In my particular case, I just wanted to ensure that these fish would be compatible with the rest of my aquarium community. Had you indicated that these were Endler Guppy hybrids, I wouldn't even need to use the WiFi to research them... I would have bought more, AND given you a five star review. Don't have a public Wi-fi/Guest option, if you don't want to give out the password. I'm giving you a solid 2 stars, for the amazing customer service from the young lady with purple hair...But I am taking away three stars for the awkward interaction with your other two employees. . read more

Great place. Tons of selection for foods and especially fish. The most beautiful bettas and guppies in town! Always quick to answer the phone and happy to answer any questions. They don't carry very large crickets to be honest though, the one thing they could do better with is their live foods, slim pickings and prices are higher than elsewhere. read more

This place is dirty, there are no prices on anything so you just kind of have to figure it out at the register. The people working are not friendly, don't say hi when you walk in, don't ask if you need help. I felt very unwelcome in their store and their prices are outrageous compared to other pet supply stores in the area (I go to Sellwood Pet Supply now). They only get 2 stars (instead on 1) because the animals they sell look healthy. Although I made a comment to the cashier that one of his rats was really sweet and friendly and I wish I could get him but my dog would have something to say about it and I hope he goes to a good home instead of being snake food. This is a good store for when I need basic bird supplies for my parakeets right away. I was able to get my birds some feeding cups and a very basic swing (wooden perch, no beads) which they love. Horrendous. This place is so dirty and the animal care is just awful. No one that works there clearly ever wants to be there. It seems like they'd rather be playing frogger on I-5. I wish I could just save all of the animals here and find them better homes. They'd be happier and much better taken care of at a shelter even. It's just horrible. I was looking for fish and when I got to where they where after walking past employees that clearly did not want to be there to many fish dead in the tanks and dirty the whole store was not very clean in fact i tracked down and employee to ask a question and to let them know they had several fish that where dead and she didn't want no part of anything I had to say or ask not friendly at all it was like I ruined her day by approaching her .. read more

Well..I would give a higher rating but their prices went way up the past few years. For example, some simple recycled pellet bedding I buy for my rat litter box was $20 here and I found it in many other shops for $14. A simple plastic water bottle for rodents was over $10 here and $6 at the big box stores. The same bottle! I don't mind spending a bit more to support a local biz but when it's significantly higher, I cannot warrant stretching my budget that much. I have been coming to this pet store on and off for years. The service has always been pretty hit and miss - mostly bad. I usually avoid the employees because most of them have crappy attitudes. You shouldn't ask a customer if they need help if you're going to shame them or make them feel stupid. I used to shop here all the time and was pleased with most of the service but it seems things might have changed. In all fairness I only stopped by to buy some crickets and did not browse the store on my recent visit. I know from before they offer a number of different pet foods and used to have a small section for pets and fish. I bought a dollars worth of crickets, this used to get me 12 to 14 crickets and I was told now it's just 10. I was disappointed when I got home to find only 8 small to tiny ones in the bag. It's possible they ate 2 of them but not sure. I just felt like I didn't get my money's worth of product. Service was very neutral where it used to be very friendly and personal. Maybe this was just an off day it the fact I was only spending a dollar didn't buy me the smiles and friendly service? Not sure if I would go back but again to be fair I currently wouldn't have a need to return to a pet store. read more

As a child my parents bought us a kitten from here. She lived a happy & wonderful life. She was a great cat. Now, as an adult, pet owner, and a Mom we have a cat & dog. We come here often to buy our animals "Taste of the wild". This is our local pet shop. We love coming here and the selections are great. We have purchased many items here in addition to our pets food. Everyone who works here is friendly & helpful! I do have to mention my visit today though. I took my 18 month daughter in with me today to get cat food and let her look at the animals/pets/birds/reptiles. However, I was a little disturbed to find 4 beta fish that looked like they died days ago just floating it their cups in the display. Also a few of the small birds (2 of them) that are rather pecking each other's feathers off or are sick. They birds are balding and showed an excessive amount of skin in my opinion. It broke my heart when I saw this, and I was so excited to walk my daughter around to show her all the wonderful animals. I may just have to come in by myself the next few times just to get food, and leave the pet visits to the zoos & aquariums. read more

I have been coming here for a number of years and will continue to choose a place like this over a big box pet store. I normally only come in once a month or so for dog food and treats but the staff is always friendly and I appreciate that they always ask if I want help taking the dog food to the car. There have been a few times I've gone in for other items and they have always been nice and helped me, including trying to get a new harness for my dog and deal with his craziness :) I am glad this place exists and I love the long hours they have and the fact they are open every day of the week! read more

I had been shopping here for cat food for over a year, and during that year have had comments made about my food purchase every time. I'm tired of it. The people there always seem to make some kind of comment to me about the cat food I buy. "How lucky my cats are". I'm not rich, they know nothing about me or my cats, and wish that they would have instead made positive phrased comments about how good I am to my cats and that I care about what I feel them. So, I finally got tired of it, and though they do have good prices on cat food, I found the place on 82nd to have more trustworthy owners and a quality mid-range of cat food which is what I was looking for...So I will be going elsewhere from now on. Actually the other place is nearer to where I live to. So, you can buy quality cat food elsewhere at a decent price without having to buy crappy food at PetSmart or the like. :) read more

If I had the option of zero stars I would give zero stars! I bought a bunny and it was doing fine and then the very next morning he died! He sneezed fell over seized and died! And on top of that they house guiena pigs and rabbits together and technically their not supposed to be housed together because they can fight one another and on top of that I am pretty sure they use guiena pig food and that is not an okay diet for rabbits. Creature comfort also tried telling me how to take care of a rabbit when I already know how to take care of rabbits! I got some bad customer service so I've made up my mind and they lost my service . I'll be taking my business somewhere else. I feel like I was truely disrespected and not treated like a customer at all I felt uncomfortable after I got bad customer service. read more

My family and I have had wonderful experiences. We have gotten 10 pets from Creature Comforts (3 gerbils, 4 mice, and 3 rats). Our first experience, getting the gerbils, was wonderful. The employee let me hold them and answered all my questions, and one mouse, whom we named Coco, would ride on my brother's Brio train, and my rat, Oreo, has learned to climb up the ladder to my loft bed, which is very impressive since the rungs are so far apart from each other (There are six rungs, each 10" apart). I thought maybe I was being too harsh the first time I reviewed this place, but after going back a second time because of its location, I realized I wasn't wrong. I'm pretty sure these people hate animals. I've never gone to a pet store where they don't even say hi to your dog. In most places, the employees say hi and offer a treat. I don't expect that, but these guys just sneer when you walk in with an animal. The staff--again--didn't offer any help at all. While I was shopping around, I overheard the employee having a conversation about people who buy organic dog food and how stupid it is for someone to buy "organic." Really, the attitude of the people working there is terrible. They're not at all friendly. In fact, they're rude. They're losing business by being such colossal jerks. read more

I have been to this pet store more than a few times to get dog food. They are just down the block from me and because I frequently wait until I am out of dog food to get more, they have saved my dogs from starving to death because I am forgetful. That being said, the prices are pretty high compared to Pet Smart or Pet Co. (54.99 for 30 lb of dry dog food vs. 44.99 for the same food elsewhere). Service is frequently lacking too. They are rude when you ask to pay via credit, and complain about the bank fees that you are making them endure. If I wasn't so lazy, I would drive to Pet Co. read more
