Waste of time and rude vet. I have been a customer for over 10 years, but I will NEVER come back to this location. I made an appointment for me pet's rabies shot. I get there early and the woman checking people in is very slow. I waited passed my appointment time. When it was finally my turn we get checked in and she is trying to sell me all these extra products that I was not interested in. Fine - I started telling her how we are here for the rabies shot, but I was interested in making an a full vet appointment because my husband thinks that our pet was drinking a lot of water. My kids or I haven't noticed that and we pay attention to him. So I inquired making an appointment as a "just in case". Well - every single employee at Vetco over reacted and refused to give him his rabies shot. Even though I told them that none of us in the house noticed anything out of the ordinary. The lady in front let me go to the back and speak to the vet. She wouldn't really let me speak and just kept telling me "NO" or "I refuse". She wouldnt even tell me why? She didn't really care what I had to say. The entire situtation was uncalled for really uncomfortable. I tried every which way and everything was just "NO". The way she was acting was not okay. The way I was treated was really ugly. And yes - when I left I called her a "fkng B*tch" because she would not let me speak and just kept telling me "NO". I went shopping for a new harness for my pet after this and when I left the store I find out that she called the police on me? Luckily I was already pulling out of the parking spot when I saw them pull up in front of the store. UNBELIEVEABLE!! Petco/ Vetco lost a loyal customer. No more using their vets or the monthly food/ litter subscriptions for my animals. I AM DONE W PETCO !!! I hope you get explosive diarrhea lady. The price does not match the quality of service. The first time I brought my dog there I had to bring her back to the groomer to clean her ears. had an appointment for my kitten. it was his first well visit and even though the Petco website clearly states first-time patients get a free first-time well visit they would not honer that because we have a dog that sees the vet there. What? you would think they would be glad to have a new and additional patient but apparently not. The gentleman at the desk was rude and condescending. I left! I have been taking my dog buddy here for six years to get groomed. I had an appointment today and when I went to pick him up, I was informed that Buddy is no longer allowed to get groomed at the Clark location. The groomers name was Josh. This is the first time Josh has groomed my dog buddy after six years all of a sudden my dog is a problem. He is a little Havanese. He does like to bark and he is only 12 pounds soaking wet so after six years of appointments and multiple groomers I need to take him to a less populated store or give him sedatives which also means I can't take him there anymore because he's on sedatives. None of the other groomers have had an issue with Buddy and his temperament. Josh did a horrible job grooming, buddy. He left chunks of hair in his eyes and left his coat looking choppy. This is a very unprofessional establishment. A lady in front of me was also turned away by the same groomer because he said the dog was anxious. If you love your pet do not bring them here for grooming. They lost all of my business. I will not bring my pet here for grooming or buy one ounce of dog food for my two dogs here any more. Can get it for cheaper on Amazon. Thanks for the reply Petco but the damage is done. Terrible service, the groomers are unfortunately not trained professionals in grooming. I watched as our puppy went in to be groomed and the groomer brought him out 10 mins later to say he wasn't sitting well for him. They did that to another family there also. We watched from the glass windows, that was untrue! I wanted to try Petco since it's very close to my house. But after this experience, we won't be back. I called our usual groomer and drove 2 towns over and my puppy was welcomed with open arms. He got a terrific first haircut and looks handsome. read more

I have never had a good experience at Petco. I stop in every now and then to check on the care of their in-store animals. During my most recent visit I witnessed the horrible state of their leopard geckos. They had 10+ leopard geckos in one enclosure, and many were dangerously malnourished. They were kept on sand bedding which is dangerous for leopard geckos as they can ingest it. I even found a dead gecko in the corner. I told the employees that the care was horrible and about the dead gecko. I believe they were working on changing the bedding after I spoke to them. Today I talked to Cathy, the manager on duty, who was defensive and agitated when I request that she try to find a way to rebook the appointment. She was not open to discussion to find alternative solutions, did not offer alternative solutions like trying to help us find another store with services close by or any other ideas. It was more that's the way it is and that it. When I asked about a replacement groomer, she stated that they had no stations left. How can that be if one groomer is out? Terrible customer service. I was trying to return cat food because my cat passed away. I have other cats but they did like this food. I was told that they can't accept it past 30 days. The cans were in sealed box and not opened. The representative had to empty for my loss. just stated the facts. I am still very upset about my loss and didn't think to return it sooner. If you look at the recent review from Jasmine, she is correct. The customer service here is poor. I arrived with my two dogs this morning for a scheduled grooming. At this point, I've been a customer here for 3 years. Unbeknownst to me, one of my dogs had an outdated shot. This is fine - I can simply get him his updated shot. What is upsetting to me is that this was never communicated with us prior to my arrival. After being told at the location that my dog cannot be groomed, I was blamed for their lack of communication. Instead of an apology, I had to engage in a back and forth with two staff members who swore they left us a message that doesn't exist. Of course, they could not provide anything in writing either. A simple deescalation of the situation and a rescheduling could have been the outcome. Instead I was repeatedly blamed for their lack of communication. Thank you to our previous groomers who have been great. Unfortunately due to how frustrated I am with how I was treated today, Storm and Brady will not be returning. read more

We have been bringing our rescue to petco for grooming for over 5 years. Melissa did a great job, was friendly, and accommodating until our last visit. Our dog gets an express grooming that we pay extra for. We give generous tips and a Xmas bonus. Our dog is blind has been so for about two years. However, she is an easy customer. Melissa asked us how is she doing, as she always does, and I told her that last grooming she didn't trim fur between foot pads. Our dog was very itchy and was biting her feet. Our vet recommended a cytopoint shot which did not agree with our dog. After a few days and some tummy meds she's now fine, but Melissa responded with, "Lola is very fragile and that if I groom her I will loose my job". I thought she wanted to postpone the grooming which was unnecessary but she actually told us it's a corporate decision and she will no longer groom her (corporate dismissed this claim). She told us to go find another groomer and then dismissed us. Lola gets groomed every four weeks. So basically either Melissa or petco has the right to discriminate against any animal they deem anything uncompliant to some arbitrary non medical or otherwise standard they choose. We felt insulted, angry, disgusted, and supremely inconvenienced. Most groomers require a few hours of time to groom and crate the dogs. Lola was abandoned not once but numerous times in her life and can't tolerate being away from us for hours, nor can she be crated without extreme stress. Finding a new groomer during pandemic times is hard enough but most are not accepting new clients as well. This is a sadly unprofessional action that borders on inhumane. Every time your dog is groomed here you sign a waiver absolving petco of liability. If they want vet records as to her healthiness or ability to be groomed they should ask for one or call our vet. I made a complaint to corporate and was told they (Clark Petco) will contact me within 48 hours. Of course I have heard nothing. To be treated with rampant disrespect at the whimsy of the manager of grooming after 5 years is something you should be prepared to experience when dealing with this store. If I could give a zero rating I would. We have given Melissa great ratings each month on customer questionnaire. This undoes all of that and I think that's just pitiful. read more

I've been buying from Petco both on line & at this location because it's close to where I work. Im using their repeat orders. On Sunday I passed the Petco in union and spent over $150 dollars. I bought a small 2lb box of The Honest Chicken for $30 something dollars. My dog didn't like it & the little that he ate made him sick. I was told by both a cashier & a manager that even with the receipt, the box full they couldn't accept my return because their policy changed in January of 2023 that all returns opened and unopened had to be returned to the store it was purchased from. Needless to say they lost me as a customer I've never had this type of issues with them or PetSmart. This new policy is going to cost them a lot of customer's specially if you buy on line or other Petco. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Grooming service! It was such horrible experience for my dogs and me as well! The lady was unbelievably rude! M'y puppies are 4 months old and I took them for grooming first time! Front desk ladies were aware about our first time! First, she was very rude to my dog while she was trimming his hair, I could clearly see it trough the window! Second, she could not stop complaining how not well trained was 4 months old dog, he didn't let her cut his hair around his eyes ! What a surprise right for grooming service stuff! This establishment should be under new management. I have 2 dogs i decided to take them both to get groomed, one of my dogs is very playful and they told me he was "too active" and "too hyper" to be groomed when he has gotten groomed by other people many times before, the front lady "manager" was very unprofessional and immediately was negative towards my dog and my dogs behavior when asked if she can give him a treat so he can calm down and listen she said "we don't do that here". You would think Petco has the required professionals that deal with this every day but this wasn't the case, she denied care for my first dog. Regarding my second dog , they didn't pluck my dogs ears or cleaned them or drained his anal glands. They gave me my dog back with a bleeding nail, didn't apologize and didn't care that he was actively bleeding, when i started asking questions, the worker told me that the technician (same lady that denied care for my other dog 2 hrs prior) had left for the day and she wasn't around anymore. $115 was paid expecting full package however they deceived me and did half the job with half the care. Absolutely disgusted with the customer care and more so with the care they have with my pets i wouldn't recommend this place not even to my worst enemy. I took my dear dog Lucky here to get a routine haircut. Went next door to Whole Foods to get the weekly groceries for me and the kids, and got a call that they shaved too deep - his fur will never grow back!!! The undercoat is essentially gone! He used to be the happiest dog, but nowadays, when I go to take pictures, he doesn't smile anymore. I think he is severely depressed and insecure because of his lack of hair. read more

I started coming to this location in early January 2017 after rescuing a young min pin puppy, and have been coming there for a couple of months now. For the most part all of the employees have been very nice, with the exception of one who was a little ticked off that we came in a few minutes before the official opening time, even though our puppy class was going to be starting, it was freezing outside and grooming was open. They carry Merrick dog food (small breed, puppy), so that's great. What's not so great is the customers who let their dogs pee all over the place. There are cleanup supplies all over the store for the purpose of cleaning up inevitable accidents and it's simply unacceptable for dog owners to leave their dog's urine on the floor of the store. I'll update this with a review of their puppy school (and puppy socializations), and hope that other clients will follow suit, since I didn't have any indication of what their trainers or classes were like prior to enrolling. We started the week after her 8 week shots, so she's been attending since she was 9 weeks old. Update: Their trainer Barb is awful. She is absolutely condescending and puts down dog owners who sign up for the puppy classes. I ended up contacting management 4 sessions in as she called my dog "that one" and was very inconsistent in her training methods/advice to me and other class attendees. Instead of being helpful, she is a mean know it all with a very abrasive demeanor. I heard shame one dog owner for not starting classes until their dog was 12 weeks old and told them they ruined their dog (mind you this was an early morning Saturday class--- we all made the commitment because we wanted/wanted our dogs to learn). Meanwhile, she brought her own fancy pants puppy to a socialization group at 14 weeks and it hid under her chair the whole time. Petco fully refunded me for Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 when I told them the situation. I still absolutely love Petco Clark and go there all the time. Their employees are wonderful and the store has a great selection! read more

Workers here are nice but the fish are unfit for any aquarium. I bought a few fish and they both died within 24 hours and they were swimming strange the second I put them in the tank. I then tested my water and everything was fine so it clearly wasn't my tank. Went in the store to get a refund and they told me I had to bring the dead fish in to prove I wasn't lying. Why would I lie about 18 dollars worth of fish? Also how was I supposed to keep dead fish around my house for a few days? I couldn't just run out the same day I had to wait until I had the time. I highly suggest you visit pet supplies plus instead I bought 5 fish from there and they are all healthy and swimming around. Also, the employees are very helpful and full of knowledge. They also will refund you without making you bring in dead fish. He is so strong and full of energy but she is able to control him and make his stinky self smell somewhat decent. The place is very clean and Amy is flexible with her hours especially if I need a good shampoo for my bully named Bigs. You know, I've been reading the reviews on groomers and Barb, the trainer. I've never used the groomer, but I did sign my dog up for canine good citizen class. Half way into the class, Barb decided to switch the class from a Tuesday night to a Saturday! I couldn't make Saturday as I worked on Saturdays. I signed up for the night class because it was convenient, she changed it and wouldn't give me my money back even though I told her why I needed to do a night class! I should've complained more. She was very condescending and she didn't train at all. All she did was talk about her dogs and what she did. There was no training at all and because she changed the class my dog didn't get the certification I was paying for! Totally sh**ful experience. So before I start I just need to say if you think my review might be harsh it's because my dogs are everything to me and I take situations very seriously when it comes to my animals, sorry it's just me. So we had been taking my dog to the groomer there for a few months and my dog fell in love with the lady Brenda. Brenda was very sweet and professional. After a few months we were informed Brenda left and that we were getting assigned to a new groomer. I just want to stop here to mention the fact that my dog is not skittish, or hard to maintain in any way. In fact she has been described as a groomers dream by our current groomer. I wouldn't say it if it was just me but other have told me she isn't hard to handle at all. So one day after switching to the new lady I picked my dog up and something was off. The hair cut looked fine but my dog seemed very nervous and almost scared. When the groomer passed her to me she was shaking and upset. This is not normal for her AT ALL. I put the collar on and once she hit the floor she wanted out. She bolted for the door and cried until we left. I asked if anything had happened and they adamantly denied anything happened. She continued to be nervous on the way home and for a time at home. I will now be taking my dog to the groomer my other dog goes to (pet co refused to cut his hair because of his skin condition). I know SOMETHING HAPPENED, and if you think this is the end YOU ARE WRONG. I have been and will actively continue to turn people away from your business. Do not go to this or any other Petco for their vaccination clinics! We had vaccinations and a heartworm test done on 6/15/19. We told the vet that we do not want the Heart Guard medicine that they supply as the only option for heartworm meds at the clinics, we wanted to stick with Iverheart that we have been using for four years. The vet said that was fine and we could order it thru the Petco website, well he lied! We placed the order and it was cancelled with no explanation. I called customer service and was hung up on three times, I was finally told that the vet wouldn't authorize it because it's not what they recommend or they should say sell! I'm a highly experienced dog owner and I know what is best and has worked for four years for my dog and was told I could order the same medication! The only option I was given was to bring him in for another test and buy their recommended brand! Not going to happen! I have been taking my poodle to this site since 2015 and I must admit, I was happy with the service the first 2 years. However, the last 6 to 8 months the service to my poodle sucked. After taking my poodle 3 weeks ago, I suspected something was not right and felt uneasy about leaving my pet when her regular groomer (Colleen) was not there to greet us and my poodle was taken tied to a table in the back corner. I asked about her groomer and was told she was somewhere in the shop, I stayed for 10 to 15 minutes and then reluctantly left. Unfortunately, 5 hours later I received a call telling me my pet will be ready in 20 minutes... When I arrived to pick my poodle up, I was immediately rushed to pay for the service without inspecting my pet and then Colleen handed me my pet, while conveniently conversing with another customer and my poodle immediately pull me out of the store, ready to leave. When placing my poodle in my car, I then noticed my poodle had trouble sitting down on her rump and winced in pain, I then noticed an ugly fire red color scar around her anus and butt, after a day, I noticed the scar around her butt turning different shades of red and then I rushed my poodle to her Vet. I was told by the Vet. this was a horrible clipper burn and was given creams to rub on her rump to stop the infection. In Retrospect, I have to say, the service at this Petco have been going down with huge staff turnover, but the prices are still going up. In the last 8 months, I noticed my poodle often leaves this establishment half groomed, nails never trimmed, ears always not trimmed and teeth never brushed... Nice new Petco at the Raritan Center. It's all shiny and new, though tightly packed in this location. I've been to other stores that are easily 2-3x the space. Which would also indicate why some dog food selection is missing. My dog is picky, she only likes a certain flavor by a certain brand. The brand is there, but instead of carrying the 7-8 flavors they have, this Petco only had 3...aggravating. But it's convenient for after/before the gym. read more
