Petco on Staples has a great mix of products for your pets. And I love their reward system. However, checking out at Petco has always been extremely slow. I was there today and they finally had TWO cashiers, which helped, but it was still quite slow. I'm thinking it might be their computer system. The biggest highlight is their grooming salon. The lobby is too small and plus they treat people like cattle. If they can't handle animal's behavior why are they there. Went to petsmart, totally different environment, bigger area for grooming. Very poor customer service, bought a full training package and when I showed up to first class trainer said she was double booked and forced me to reschedule. Show up to the reschedule and was told the trainer has COVID and the manager was extremely unprofessional telling me since I bought the training online to call customer service and walked away when I asked for a refund. Traveling from Kingsville, nearly an hour away and the store never called or sent an email that I was being rescheduled. Very poor experience overall, rude staff who saw me standing there with my dog and refused to acknowledge me to say the trainer was unavailable. Had to go find someone who was upset that I stopped him and asked to speak to the manager. Definitely will not be returning to this location until the level of customer courtesy changes. read more

Being nice helps but it's not always going to cover the fact that some employees are not properly trained or lack the effectiveness of customer courtesy. I brought my purchase up to the front buying 16 single containers of dog food, a harness (in a large plastic container not loose), dog brush, litter scooper and kitty litter. The girl at the register put all 16 containers of dog food, the scoop, the brush and the plastic container with the harness. and put them all into one bag. Now roughly estimating the weight (each container is 8 oz so that makes the bag weighing about 8lbs for just the dog food alone plus with the extra items I'm going to guess between 9-10lbs of plastic edges weighing about 9-10lbs in a single plastic bag. Not thinking, I didn't question it at the time and can anyone guess what happened? I'm going to guess you all got it right... bag ripped and dog food onto my driveway. Well at least 13,made it to the dog. But I did have to wash the dog food out of the hair brush (which by the way, I did think hard about first. read more

Went for gravel, a few fish and just to shop around. Was very warm inside. Needed to replace 100 lbs of gravel in an aquarium we were moving to another room. All gravel we saw was in stock as three 25 lbs bags. Could not find 100 lbs of the same gravel in stock... Finally bought 75 lbs of what we wanted and 25 lbs of a similar color and put it below the one we wanted to fill aquarium. Seemed understaffed. Wanted to get a few fish. Waited over 20 minutes while the only sales person in fish helped a customer that walked up after us. Finally left without fish. Went to Tropical Fish Haven and bought our fish and some salt water. Petco was not cheaper, was understaffed, and appears to have AC issues. Can not recommend. read more

I can't abide people who do nothing when informed that animals in your care need something. I told someone in aquatics that the reptiles needed water. I told the cashier the reptiles needed water. I told a manager that the reptiles needed water. Each time I was told, "I'll let someone know". When did this become an acceptable response?!? How about you do it now! If my animals need water or food or calming, I stop what I'm doing and do it. You have this animal in a cage. It can't take care of itself. Water is a life necessity. read more

Twice now I have taken my dog to the groomers to for a wash and a haircut. She's a bit on the shaggy side so understandably it would take a 2 maybe 3 hours. But 4 hours is a long time, regardless. It's not a spa, it's a haircut. First, my dog doesn't need 4 hours to get a cut. I've done it myself in half the time. Secondly, the customer service is beyond reproach. They have my child behind that counter, behind the doors, where she's been for 4 hours now. Even worse, they give me attitude from the other side of the counter, not providing any clarification as to why it is taking so long, but being nearly hostile when I ask for that clarification. The employees at this Petco are by far the worst I've experienced in any business. I will not trust the life of my dog in their hands again. Goodbye Petco, fix this god awful business or get ride of the terrible employees ruining it. read more

This store is always nothing short of a nightmare. If you can't find, and hire staff, CLOSE THE STORE DOWN! We waited almost 25 minutes for assistance in the fish department after requesting assistance 3-4 times. This store is also filthy, dirty, and just nasty. I needed some Puppy food that was hidden behind some pallets, so I asked if he could get me the on on top or reach around the pallet to get a bag. Cory the manager says we are working on this and it will a while I asked if he could move it . Cory pushed the pallet of stuff out of the way as hard as he could as if he was angry then grabbed the wrong bag (a bigger bag) and tossed it at me on to my shoulder and face ( it is on video or should be cause the camera was right there) while I was holding a hand held basket. You know that gut feeling you get sometimes? I ignored mine and my dog and I paid. I tend to be overly paranoid when it comes to my dog. He's the child I will never have. You hear some awful stories of abuse and negligence about grooming salons so I typically will seek out independent establishments for grooming. Unfortunately, after hearing about how one local groomer got a chihuahua killed, I canceled the appointment I had with them. Another local place charges out the ass - $70 to groom a Pomeranian?! So I though, Hey Self, how 'bout you chill and try Petco. So I drop my dog off and show the gal who checked me in a picture of what I wanted. I return three-ish hours later and my dog is on the table being worked on. I eventually ask for my receipt to pay while I wait. Before I could make it to the register the groomer stopped me and explained that she wasn't going to charge me because she had inadvertently cut part of his hair too short. I asked to see him to decide if it was THAT BAD. Turns out the "shorter part" was the least of my concerns (insert laughing emoji). How to describe his face hair? Essentially he had a long fu Manchu. He looked like Wilford Brimley, the oatmeal dude. THEN I SAW THE BACK OF HIS HEAD. I'm not really sure what the plan was, but it was very 80s punk. Jagged, uneven, confusing. In the end another groomer did what she could to even it out as best as possible. I ended up not paying, though I did tip the two ladies. After all, they DID groom him. When I got home I realized how shitty the job truly was and had to cut his hair in several places. I also don't think they cut his nails. Look, he's safe and sound, he wasn't hurt. But this is ridiculous. Don't have people attempting stuff they are ill-prepared for. Needless to say, I shan't be rescheduling. Looks like it's $70 hair cuts for the tiny bear from now on. read more

Horrible pet grooming service. Staff has no knowledge of vaccines for our pets... brought in paperwork from our vet. San Patricio animal clinic. Our fur babies have to have the 3 year rabies vaccine. Our fur babies are allergic to vaccine and can be given every 3 years. Staff had no clue.. so refused groomino. when I ask them to call their vet on staff.. replied oh they are here every other sat. Also they were to be groomed the week before but on the day they were to go in they called and canceled due to their heater was out and could not say when it could be fixed.. wow they didn't even call saying it was fixed or reschedule. we had to call them. Less learned. We will never use them again and inform our vet of their refusal of grooming service. read more

I wasn't informed at all about the status of my purchase since it wasn't available. There should have been more communication. Contemplated writing a review but I feel other customers should be aware if they have either a golden-doodle or other big dog. I took my doodle to get groomed 2 days before his 1st birthday. Although he had matting on his back legs, some around his neck and ears I did not expect to get my dog back the way I did. After an hour the groomer Annabelle calls me to pick my dog up stating he was "aggressive" and she could not proceed with the grooming. I've gotten my doodle groomed 6 times and not once have I had a complaint on him being aggressive. When I arrived to pick him up, she hands him to me with his face completely shaved which was uneven, down to his nose was shaved. Only one piece of hair hanging from his beard that was not cut. His back area by his tail was half shaved with one side having more hair than the other. The back of his 2 front legs were cut from the shaver, his entire body was shaved to the skin. And she only cut half his top and left a Mohawk of hair. I put him in my car and hair fell off of his body meaning she didn't even brush out the hair she just shaved. Both the groomer Annabelle and employee at the desk basically looked at me as if it was no big deal and said "sorry ma'am there's nothing we could do, at least his hair will grow back" which to me is complete BS. If you do not know how to groom a dog of that size or a dog with fur you should not be a groomer. When I walked out with him he was not presentable, I was embarrassed to walk out with my dog and his appearance and I honestly feel like my dog was completely traumatized by the shaving of his face to his nose. Please re-think getting grooming done there if you have a doodle. read more

Went shopping on Thursday day before Black Friday and bought Purina One dog food which was on sale buy one get second half off and my daughter opened bag the next day to feed her dog and had live and dead bugs along with pantry moths flying out! Eewww gross. Warning to check your dog food or cat food when you open bag. I took items back for a return and will never buy food there at Petco. Employee in fish dept recommended fish that would go well with my fish that I've had for over a year. (About $300 worth). She even told me how to introduce them to the tank. Over the Next few days, all my fish were dead as well as the fish I bought ($50 worth). Manager was informed. He said sorry but she gave me bad advice and he did not offer to even give me money for the fish I bought. They lost me as a customer. Too bad for them as I was buying for all 28 of my pets. His cut was uneven, and when I took him home, I had to trim his nose myself because of sloppy workmanship. His ears still had hair in them, which I understood that cleaning his hair from his ear canal would be done. I have to travel for work, I also travel with my 2 small dogs one of which is a 4 lb Yorkie named Joy. Joy has seizures sometimes, my home town vet has done blood work and can not find out what causes them and I have never been able to get Joy to the vet in time for them witness the Seizures either. With Joy being 11 now and healthy otherwise I have always use Petco for my Grooming needs now with that said. I made an appointment with the Corpus Christie Petco on Staples street, when i made the appointment i informed them that Joy had a seizure disorder and they scheduled it. Joy and I got there to check in, I again stated that she had seizures and they refused to take her. I understand and respect the fact that they put the welfare of the Pets first. What I don't understand after 11 years of being a loyal customer making me drive over there and then they refuse. Petco lost a loyal customer today. They have some of the higher quality brands of dog food regularly in stock. When I called to ask about special ordering a food they don't carry that I saw on the website the manger was friendly, got it done, & gave me a discount for ordering through her by phone. They allow local shelters to bring in animals up for adoption regularly on weekends, which is a plus to me. A few years ago they had some rather rude, disinterested cashiers, doesn't seem to be the case anymore - good move on managements' end. read more
