I try my best to give stores the benefit of the doubt because lack of workers. I come to PETCO because it is convenient and my dog and cat need food. I find the workers, only focused on stocking the shelves (taking their time with no urgency) and working the front counter. What about helping customers on the floor. What about minimizing long lines. I Also went to ask about using the restroom. Waited for 15 minutes at the restroom door. No one came out. Then I went to ask again about the key. I was told someone is using the restroom. I went to knock on the restroom door and no response. So for the next 10 minutes no one came, and after I told them that I knocked and their was no answer, the cashier acted as if they did not care. Does anyone check the welfare of others to ensure people are ok in the restroom or possibly having or had a medical emergency or a person doing drugs. As a shopper for over 8 years I'm very disappointed with PETCO's customer service. I sometimes use Amazon to have food delivered. Sad that we are getting away from customer interactions and allowing our jobs to be taken away by online shopping. read more

I've always had a great experience with this Petco's grooming salon! My puppy's usual stylist, Alexis, goes above and beyond to make sure my puppy is taken care of and we like her cut, even calling us to make sure everything is what we expect. Me, my husband and kids visited this location to adopt a cat/kitten, we saw a kitten that caught our eye, I let an employee Joyce know that we were ready to start our adoption process. She came and handed us the adoption papers and didn't say nothing else. I asked if there was at least a pen we could use, and she just said "yeah it's at the register" and just stood still. I then asked if she can go bring us it and she hesitated and just left walking and brought us back a pen and left. I then went to another employee asking if we could get help from another employee and they said yes of course. Lol but then sent Joyce back. I told her if we can get another employee and she said no that she is "manager of the adoptions" ????? Then she literally unlocked the cat cages and left us with her store key and walked away, which is definitely weird. When we were finished we didn't know who to go to cause she went missing. We had to go ask another employee what do we do next and we told her joyce left us with her store key and we gave it to the cashier. The other cashier apologized for it. We saw Joyce and i went up to her and told her we finished our paperwork and she said she would fedex it to a lady who's in charge of the adoption papers. We were literally confused lol. Then she said it would take a about week. We thought it was a same day adoption. Maybe with more communication from her it would've been a better experience. If I can give zero stars I would! I spotted a guy working there and asked him for 20 small crickets he was very polite and helpful. When it was time to ring me up, well first of all there was another lady already getting ringed up and I was in line to go next but before it was my turn the employee who was ringing up was already screaming at the poor guy saying why are you selling crickets! Did no one tell you we aren't supposed to sell them! And so on! Poor guy apologized to me. I know it wasn't his fault but that lady had poor customer service for screaming and she turns and tells me we aren't selling them sorry we have pets to feed too. First time going in here, there was poop right on the entrance. It took 3 minutes for someone to clean it.. It took about 10 minutes for someone to help us in the aquatics section also. She looked like she didn't care at all (until she told us herself that she hates fish) We felt like we were rushed when it came to us deciding what we wanted as well. We asked questions about the fish we were getting we got half-assed answers like "I dunno it's your tank. I dunno it's your money. You're buying these not me." Luisa made today's experience terrible. First time at this location since they were the only petco store that had an available spot open. I am amazed on how my baby Gordis came out looking and was well behaved with Alexis! (The Groomer) I was really stunned when I came to pick her up. Just seeing her be calm and letting herself be handle by the groomer made my day . Usually she not a very social pup and I was really worried when I brought her in for a bath and hair cut. I had told Alexis that she's not really social and is a little over on the protective side when people come near me and/or try petting her. Alexis reached out to her and told me not to worry she is in great hands. When she told me that I felt such a relief and assured me that she be looking beautiful! The groomer Alicia is amazing!! SUPER friendly when i called to schedule an appointment. And it was great meeting her in person. I'll definitely take my fur-baby back to her. WORST PETCO!! customer service is very DEFICIENT!!! From the cashier to the manager they just refused to refund my credit card or cash refund!! I did not have the receipt but I purchased this litter the same day I purchased the box at Pet Smart which no questions asked looked the purchase up with my phone number and credit card and refunded it. The staff at this petco was incompetent and could not do it PLUS they had an attitude and took it personal even though I told them it was nothing personal I was just frustrated with the "supposed policy" since OTHER PETCOes have been able to refund the credit card. read more

This Petco is as almost as bad as the Petco in Huntington Park. Clean store but crappy service. I wanted to purchase a few clearance items so the cashier got the manager involved because one of the item's was not really on clearance. So rather than tell me that, the manager proceeded to mark the price down to a different price higher than the advertised price and tells the cashier that he refuses to mark it to the price posted because he didn't want to be audited. WTF?! Hello! I'm standing right next to you and can hear you! Charlie Sheen would say this place is LOSING! Duh! Anyway, the cashier proceeds to ring me up and I tell her that she didn't mark the price to the amount posted and her reply was that the selling price she lowered it to was the lowest price they could go, as if it was an auction or something. I didn't buy the item and didn't appreciate that the manager didn't have the courtesy to explain what was going on or tell me that I was going to pay more than the advertised price. Well, this Petco is definitely better than the one in Cerritos. But there were some clearance items by the cashier. I grabbed a bag filled several random cat treats/trinkets, thinking that the lowest price tag was the correct price. There were multiple price tags on the cellophane bag. Turns out that the cashier rang up every single price sticker separately. she said the bag was just the packaging and you had to pay for the items separately. Well, that's hardly a clearance in my book. It wasn't much of a savings either. Needless to say, I put it back, which then visibly annoyed the cashier. whatever. read more

I went to return a dog leash that was still in the box, I never opened it, never used it and the process took forever. The Cashier who helped me didn't understand a word I said. Then she had to go and clear the return with a manager...It was obviously UNUSED wth! I paid for it with my debit card, which should have came back as cash...the heifer applied it to my card anyway which is going to take a month for the money to go back. Then she tried to get me to sign up for their rewards card -which I already have..but I won't be using it. Petsmart is cheaper and the one that just opened in beverly hills- the staff are always happy to help. They don't even deserve 1 star. Don't go here unless you like being treated like crap. The parking is not great, then again it is in Downey and the traffic is horrendous and it doesn't help the store is located in a shared parking lot. Fast forward to the shopping experience, the store is pretty small and the variety is underwhelming. The kid that helped me at the cash register was very nice, apologizing to all the customers in line, because he was the only cashier and there were quite a few customers in line. read more

Went in the other day to get some dog food, Jesus is one very helpful employee! I wanted to change dog food for my little charlie and he informed me about the process of changing food and everything else I needed to know. I also stop by the grooming salon to get my dogs nails clipped and ears clean one of the groomer red hair with tattoos took one look at my dog and told me she didn't have time to do nails or clean the ears. I told her that I called earlier and spoke to someone who said walks service like that are always welcome and she continued to tell me that she didn't have time at all I would need to make an appointment. My boyfriend used to have a dog so we would drop by the get rawhide chews. Now we go to buy gift's for his boss' cats or look at mice. The hair rollers, odor destroyers, training pads, and waste pads in the clean up aisle should be a reality check for any aspiring pet owner. There are cats for adoption and hamsters for sale here. I was happy with my first purchase and as I waited for my friend to finish his purchase, a cashier from the next register very rudely "recommended" us a puppy food brand while saying that the one that we chose was poor in quality and had zero nutrients. I understand that you want to make good suggestions as that is your job, but this was so out there. They were on the phone and completely out of the blue asked "how old is your puppy??" While still being on the phone. Left us in a very bad mood, and don't think we'll be returning for making us really question how we're raising our puppy with such rude statements.We'll be going to a different Petco to return this "poor" puppy food for a better one. I love shopping for my pets at Petco. Here is why I don't shop at PetSmart... 1. Petco associates are way more knowledgable on animals. They hire experts that actually own the pets they talk about- you can even call on the phone and ask them questions about your pet. PetSmart employees have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to animals. 2. Better costumer service- at Petco I've maybe waited 5 minutes for fish or crickets to feed my bearded dragon. (I once waited at PetSmart 20 minutes to get a fish tank- it was ridiculous!) 3. Cheaper prices! (But most things are the same price). Some things are the same, but I know I've bought lights for my fish tank at literally half the price of PetSmart. 4. Rewards program- I get $5 every time I spend $100, which goes fast with owing so many pets... I own three dogs, multiple fish, and one bearded dragon and I only go to Petco now due to the horrible service at PetSmart. read more

All I can say is wow and what a wonderful staff the grooming department has. Azaleas efforts to find a microchip on a dog that was outstanding. Thanks to her a dog that was stolen from Las Vegas, Nevada will soon be reunited with his rightful owners that have been frantically searching for him for the last few months. Girls in the grooming department went above and beyond for this pup even helping look for his food. I am posting this because even though I wasn't the one that brought in the pup in I admire these girls for not giving up and if my dog were to ever get lost I would want this group of amazing girls to be tenacious in scanning for a chip. You girls that were there all 3 of you are hero's to Chowchow as well as Mely that found him and did not give up on finding his family. A million thank you to you girls. I have been coming to this Petco (religiously) since August 2015 since my corgi has her training here and gets groomed here as well. I wish I could give this Petco a billion stars. Absolutely every worker is SO sweet and helpful. I love how every time my corgi and I go to this Petco, everyone is so loving to my little Ivy. It means everything to me that the workers are attentive to her and are willing to offer me any advice they can give me. Ivy gets so exciting as soon as we pull up to the parking lot and is pretty much happy the whole time we are there. THANK YOU for being so amazing!! :) read more

Brought my little Maltese for the first time today as a walk-in, Rosie was SO good and patient with me, and with him, He had a hotspot on his back and I told her before I left him, When I picked him up he was so fluffy and clean! She did his nails and a Face & Fanny trim, As we were leaving he scratched his hotspot and it was bleeding, I walked him back to Rosie and she was so concerned and apologetic and even GAVE me a bottle of Aloe Soothing gel to help him. She also noted he had an anal gland issue I was unaware of, so a trip to the Vet is in order, Thank you Rosie & Petco, You ROCK! We will definetly be going back! read more

Love the trainers Luisa and Alex. They have helped us train our little pupperina. They also have given us a lot of helpful advice on how to take care of our first puppy. The groomers are excellent and always leave our puppy clean and happy. My puppy especially likes Wayne. The overall staff are very knowledgeable and super friendly. We always enjoy coming to petco. We wandered in to browse and ended up leaving with a few new fish and ghost shrimp. Prices are a little high but you have to expect that at a big pet store. What I like most about this petco location: *the vaccination clinic on Sundays-convenient and affordable. *short lines, clean store & good selection of products & pets/animals. *the great service. A couple months ago, I previously had a bad experience with nail clipping at local groom shop that I came here to buy nail clipping supplies to do it myself. The staff was SO friendly, I don't remember her name but one was tall and wore a ponytail and another girl who had 2 different colored hair. I think they were from the grooming dept? they sympatized with me and helped me find what I needed. Because of this I decided to give them a shot next time and glad I did. I got my furbaby groomed on 9/15/17 first time at this location and was very pleased with my whole experience. When I met my pet groomer Daniela, I felt at ease because she was so sweet and accomodating to my dog. She assured me my scared and anxious dog will be taken care of gently and when through all the details. My dog was nice and clean with perfectly clipped nails. The only small issue was I had to call twice to get through, originally called at 11 and left my name and number to get a call back because the groomers were not in, waited 1.5 hr and so I called again thinking they probably lost my number or got busy, this time a different person answered and took care of my booking. TIP: turns out you do not need an appointment for most of the basic grooming services you can just walk in! Not sure about haircuts tho since my dog doesn't need one. Hope this is helpful. read more
