This is the latest edition of the Petco brand to Queens - and it is welcomed. Before this location opened, I had to schlep myself through the Whitestone crowd to get my kitties their treats. No more! :) The Petco here is pretty good. It's in the "local strip mall" in JH yet is still able to retain it's local feel. The staff is helpful and the store is organized with a good inventory. And, yes, there is a magnificent parking free lot that is shared by all of the other retailers. Don't forget you Petco Pals card! read more

This review is specifically on grooming. I've been taking my pup since we first got him to Petco. I have to admit at first there were some moments were we didn't get exactly what we wanted but I have to also admit it was mostly my fault for not communicating that. Now however, I'm extremely pleased with the service they provide. Rubi is always kind with my dog and even remembers what we like. My dog is calm around her and I could tell she likes her job. She's always giving me tips of things I should do to improve my dogs fur. With that being said, I took him today and I can say I'm very pleased! Will be coming back (like always) ! read more

What can I say but terrible experience. I took my dog to the groomer at this location because I had a good experience in the union square location but this was much closer to my apartment so I figured I'd try it out. I dropped my dog off around 2:00 in the afternoon they said two hours so my husband and I were going to go for a walk. 20 min later they call and say I have to come pick up my dog they can not groom him he is disobedient and won't stop moving and is biting. My dog is a tiny dog his bites don't hurt and only bites if he is in pain. I go back and pick up my dog and he is half shaven and they still charged me 60$ for the half job they did they shouldn't have charged me at all for they "job" they did. Anyway I decided NEVER EVER to go there again. I now take him to Union Square always with a great groomer who I highly recommend Carolina. She actually knows what she is doing and can do the job right and my dog have never had any issues with her. Don't go here if u want your dog groomed correctly l. read more

The workers at this Petco go above and beyond to help their customers. Even though it can get busy at times, we still continue to come here. There's also a parking lot which is a plus. We are new dog owners and we went to Petco to pick up supplies. The cashier, Sara was super helpful letting us know about services they offer and even made sure to check for any coupons that were available for our purchases. We went to a different Petco a few days later to purchase a crate. However, we didn't notice until later that we weren't given the coupon price. We went back to this Petco to return an item as well as get a price adjustment for the crate. They were pretty busy at the time, but Rafael still took great care of us! I find the grooming is hit or miss. The last time I was there (July 2017) I have two dogs One is 3 and small the other larger dog is 11 and is about 100 pds His back legs are not that great, he can't jump, just walks slow I brought them both in to shave their hair and a bath When the groomer called for me to pick them up she told me the bigger one, she could not shave him She could not get him on the table. I should have questioned her more. Don't the tables lower down? She couldn't ask for help? Also, he was in the same condition and weight last time he was there and he got shaved The previous time they both got shaved and bathe and looked great As it was he got the bath And it seemed like a minor combing Hair was everywhere The car, staircase, apartment Next time I'll go thru the reviews and see who everyone seems to like. read more

The staff is friendly, but it seems like the place lacks overhead management. Not the most informed when it came to fishes, I was told I could come back to talk to a specialist. I had purchased two fish on a Monday and they died Monday night. I came in Tuesday to replace the two before my four year old would notice...wasn't offered a refund because I lost my receipt, but they said they remembered me. I would rate negative 0 if I can for Petco,I've been shopping here for very long and wasted a lot for them which I now don't feel worth,so I bought 4 hamsters from the store,different breed and I was told to bring them back if I can't keep them anymore,I was moving and my landlord didn't allow any pets in the new house so now I've to take them back to them as asked by them and I didn't wanna give away my hamsters to anyone who I didn't know and Petco being a pet store,I thought I can trust them in taking care of the pet and I thought they really cared for the pets,we went in to drop my babies and the guy at the cashier accepted them and we left but we forgot to hand over the toys for the boys so went back to hand that over and I see another lady who works there telling me that they can't take them as they don't have space,Petco is so big and they are gonna tell me they don't have space for my tiny little hamsters,I even offered to give them the cages but she kept saying they can't and they have to use their cage for some reason,I was clearly told to bring them back if I've problems and I was so sad to the fact the boys being rejected like that,the funny thing is she is ready to take my 2 roborovski but not ready to take my two other boys as they were bigger and older than my roborovski,she has room for those 2 as they were cute and they can be sold out easily but she rejects the other two,I was really upset and I still am and I'm not wasting even a penny at your store and while I was there I tried calling all the other Petco but all of the said no room,I mean seriously? . I cant believe this store has such bad ratings. My dog Nino loves coming here and the staff is simply amazing! Nino gets his grooming here and the grooming staff always do a great job. The only reason why I dont give it 5 stars is because lately the lines are really long and usually only 1 person is at the register. I think they should put more people at the registers since mostly all of us making the line are with our pets and they get a little anxious standing still until the lines move. This store just opened about two weeks ago and this place was a blessing for jackson heights! For all of you that live in jackson heights you must have seen the amount of dogs alone being walked around here (including mine). Finally a store with all type of foods, toys, grooming services, leashes, beds, scratch posts, etc. for all types of animals has been made convenient. Like all Petco's trucks occasionally park in front with animals for adoption! This place is great. And the service is good too! read more

So I started taking my dog here for training classes and at first all was well. We were extremely pleased that they had a great selection of food and treats for the dog, and our trainer even let us bring home some treats for free for training purposes. However, 9/10 of the people working there are extremely unprofessional over the phone. After having my 6th class cancelled, I kept calling to see when it would be rescheduled, to which I was put on hold 10 minutes and hung up on, about 4 times. After finally getting through, I was given a date to reschedule the final class and was told one of my classmates would be in the class that day as well. Now my question is, how were they able to get through or get notified of the rescheduled date, and I wasn't? We all paid for the same service and sadly that wasn't delivered. Lastly, the grooming department is horrible. Again, I called to make a grooming appointment and when I arrived, I was sent back home because my dog didn't have the Bordetella shot, when he received it that weekend from his vet!! They apparently couldn't recognize the shot on the vaccination sheet. Ok, about a month goes by and I try to make a grooming appointment yet again. After being put on hold for 10 minutes, they picked up my call and told me to call back in 30 minutes because they were busy. Ummm.... Ok. So I call back, get put on hold again, just to be told they can't take my dog today. Needless to say, I brought my business elsewhere. I don't think I will be taking classes from here again, or giving them anymore of my money. Shitty service, hire some new people who care about providing great customer service and making both dogs and their owners happy. read more

I am so grateful that we have found Jen in the grooming salon at Petco. I have never met a groomer who is so knowledgable, professional, and honest. What I love about her is that she has such high integrity. As first time puppy owners, we did not know what was involved in the grooming of our beagle. Jen was kind enough to let us know what was needed and what was unnecessary. While many people would just do anything for the money, she will only do what's needed, and also let me know why. She is so well informed!!! She took the time to talk us through our at home grooming routine, and recommended the necessary products, as well go us a heads up on what complications and issues we might expect with our breed and how to prevent them. She did all of this long before we even had our pup groomed, Jen just wanted us to have a happy, healthy puppy. We now also have a Beagle/Jack Russell mix, and right away we took her to Jen to get her used to grooming at a young age. Of course I must also mention that she is excellent with our dogs, she is soothing, efficient, and gives them as much love as I do. So the groomer who works for the Jackson heights location name Sandra has yet to be fired!!! I walked in one day and saw a family crying their hearts out. I eventually spoke to them when they left the facility to ask them if there was anything I could do for them. They told me what happened...the worst news you can ever hear about a member of the family. Their dog, Carmelo, was basically cooked alive in the cage from what they described to me. It was the worst thing I have ever heard a groomer could do to a sweet dog. My heart was torn apart for this family. I walked in there to buy some toys for my cat and I still saw that groomer working there!!! Why haven't they fired her after she killed a dog??!! Please people I beg of you guys to bring justice to Carmelo and his family!!! This place is great if your just going to go get your dog toys, food, bed, and other supplies. Their even great for inexpensive shots that your pet may need when the vetco people are there. However BEWARE grooming your dog here can be a nightmare!!!!! My dog has been taken to a private groomers a bit farther away since he was a puppy and doing great! I took him here for the first time to try and get his nails clipped and see how he liked it. The girl in that place almost killed my dog. Keep in mind he weighs about 8 pounds and is a small dog. I told her he might bite since she was a stranger but since they don't cover their mouths. All went well until she took him and put him on a the table tied him in toooo tight and was pulling the leash they put on him tighter because he was moving around. My dog was thrashing all over because he could 't breath and was trying to he out of leashes they had him on. The women didn't even call for help I had to run in there because I saw my dog shaking and his eye rims were purple. I and I mean I had to tell her to let go of the leash she was pulling and I had to unbuckle him form the other leashes on the table. My dog just slumped over when he was free and could barely breathe. He didn't bark and didn't even acknowledge me until after about 10 minutes when he started to breath normally. NEVER AGAIN am I taking my dog to get groomed here.... The other grooming place at least a knows how to care for dogs!! This lady is incompetent, would never leave an animal with her. read more

However this time my dog came home with sores from them scraping his skins and it was covered up by a yellow bow! When I finally called back the assistant store manager took me out of there system! this was my first time getting my 8lb yorkie groomed at the jackson heights location. i cant complain about the job they did because he looks good, but my huge issue is the price they charged me after i was quoted $58 initially. when i went to go pick him up i was being charged $85. seriously for such a small dog who has a short coat already that is ridiculous. just on the price alone i wont be going back i will be taking him to his regular groomer. read more

Since last week I have been trying to call and make an appointment for grooming. After calling numerous times over a few days, i finally got someone to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment for Sunday. Unfortunately something had come up that day which forced me to cancel my appointment. I must have called 20 times both the grooming service and customer service line in a period of 5 hours. Nothing. I figured someone was bound to call me since I wouldnt be showing up to the appointment that day and I'd be able to reschedule my appointment then. Again, nothing. Called on Monday 5 times before Marina the manager on the customer service line picked up. All she said was "sorry, sometimes we're busy". When I explained to her that her insincere apology wasnt good enough she said "ok ill tell the manager Stephanie to call you when she gets in in a few hours" she was so quick to try and hang up I asked if she even had my number or knew what my name was "oh let me get your number". Wow. Great customer service skills. None of it mattered though because surprise surprise no call back. What's the point of having a phone line if you never pick up or call back. Oh, and from reading the other reviews on the way they've been treating the pups that use the grooming service, they've done me a favor by not picking up the phone! To avoid the frustration I'll be taking my business elsewhere, to people who actually pick up and won't treat my puppy badly. read more

I went here cause I saw the reviews were so bad on Yelp and wanted to check this place out for myself. I always love looking inside pet stores but the number one thing I always look at is the keeping of the animals what kind of inventory they have etc. Now when walking in there was barely anyone here and I only came to see how bad the store is. I did my research and walked around the store about 9 times and wanted to see how many times they will greet me. Almost all of the employees asked me if I need anything which is good and shows that they are willing to work. Now comes the animals I noticed the reptile section was very clean and looked well kept which is good. The fist section was also well kept and clean. Overall this store is good to me and doesn't seem to have any problems with it what's so ever. But when I really do need to make a purchase I'm going to see if they can keep up the good work :) read more

Inexperienced groomer. So we came across the new PetCo on 75th and 31st ave. I've always taken my Maltese 8 pound adorable doggie to the PetCo in College Point but my family and I figured that since this one is closer, we'd give it a try. What a big mistake ! I drop my dog off at around 1:15 and at 5:00 they call me to tell me the groomer "Sandra" clipped my dogs eyelid with the razor machine because my dog jumped. They told me to meet the manager whom had my dog at the time in the Animal hospital in Jackson heights. It was horrific for my girls and I when we saw our dog. She was shaking, her left eye was closed and her face was bloody. The manager said it was a mistake, I told her "no your groomer is an idiot". I have no filter and I express my feelings wherever or to whomever I have to. They paid for my dogs surgery, anesthesia, overnight stay, and prescribed medications. I guess they thought I would sue them. The animal hospital was amazing. They calmed me down and told me my dog would be fine and thanks to them she is. Her eyelid was sewed back and healed perfectly. Don't trust this PetCo with your dog "please !" I don't wish this to anyone. read more

Never had any concerns or the staff , until I bought a filter for my fish tank, worked for a week and than started acting funny, now I misplaced my receipt and for the most part ,most companies like for exp. BestBuy or target would give you either credit or a replacement, Even thou I shopped there often and the staff does know me, and I wasn't expecting any refund, just good business sense in good customer relationship , I was treated like a Nobody, I felt disrespected and even the staff employee ( BERNADETTE ), who I founded very charming in answering my questions in the past, treated me as if I never spoken to her ever in the past, She was giving me the run around, telling me that PETCO will not refund me back my money, I wasn't looking for a refund, Which I mention to the staff SERVERAL TIMES , and even if I didn't have my receipt, they KNEW I BOUGHT THE FILTER MACHINE FROM THEM !!!, I wasn't even offer an replacement or credit, I bought the filter machine back in tack with the box , Yes off course it was my fault for misplacing that damn receipt. I requested that they look for the receipt in their computers, again I was given the RUNAROUND!!!!, Heck ,even Modell's has the capability of looking for any customer receipts run at the store level on the spot. I even called Customer Service , which I had to even requests the staff to give me, THE PETCO STAFF WERE UNCOOPERATIVE and so was the 1-800 number, I felt I was talking to a non-human reading off from a employee hand-book, ( it must had been how to annoy customers. ), I'm very upset not for the lousy $14.00 bucks spend, but for the terrible customer service in dealing with customers returns, Oh there good in giving out information, but when it comes to taking your money, they forget you as soon as you walk out the door , Very shameful, very upsetting and very unprofessional , this is a great way of losing customers, especially one with 2 dogs and a turtle . read more
