Our 2yo Havanese has been coming to Disco Paws (Steinway location) pretty regularly for daycare (Disco Day!) and grooming for... well, his whole little life really. He is generally very distrustful of humans but loves all the staff that work here (so do we) and gets excited to see them even on the street! He is sad when we walk past Disco Paws when it's not a daycare day. The staff all love him back and are always so accommodating. When our dog goes in for a Disco Day, he is sooo happy to enter the store and pulls to greet whoever is at the register. Does he come home smelling to the high heavens? Yes, yes he does. But is he the happiest boy ever when we check the playroom cam or when we come to pick him up and he has crazy eyes from an exciting day of tussling with his buddies? Yes, yes he is. Totally worth it. We do spritz him down at home after & take him in for baths a couple times a month. They offer bulk packages which is very helpful for us since it does get expensive. Will NOT recommend anymore. We used to love this place but this is the second time in a row we picked up our puppy for grooming that we have found something wrong once we got home. First time there was a big noticeable cut made by a razor of some sort on the under part. Called to see if groomer mentioned anything and they said they were going to ask and call me back. Never did. But ok, mistake could have happened. But not happy about them not even calling me back. Well today I picked him up from another grooming and now he came home with his eye completely blood shot with discharge coming out. Possibly that soap got in or something. But of course they're telling me no incidents or anything. I'm done with this place. I used to recommend this place to everyone around here but not anymore. read more

IF THERE WAS NEGATIVE 5 STARS THAT'S WHAT I WOULD GIVE RIGHT NOW! Totally disgusted and appalled by their lack of responsibility for the large cut behind my dog's ear during his grooming session last Saturday. Last night my husband noticed a rather large scab behind his right ear ... I immediately called his vet this morning to try to get an appt today but was told they are completely booked until next Saturday at 930AM. I decided to go speak to the owner Amanda after my gym session just now to make her aware of what had happened. Things did not go well! She kept stating it's not their responsibility and that Pamela has been a groomer for many years and that "all they got was a bath anyways." But this is where it gets better then she claims had she cut him with the blade they would have said something when I picked them up. Now Brooklyn is a 9 year old male 100lb long haired golden retriever. Come to think of it now I doubt it anyone of you noticed considering how quickly both were in and out last Saturday (less than two hours to bathe and comb two golden retrievers). Since Amanda kept stating they wouldn't take any responsibility for the bill from "any vet" I guess I'll have to take you to small claims court so you're legally obligated to. Recently came here to get my cat her nails trimmed and for some hygiene haircut. The staff was very nice and and welcoming. It took less than 10 minutes. Will most likely come back again in few weeks. Also make sure to call ahead because the one cutting nails/hair is only there certain time and not all day. read more

We used Disco Paws for a little over a year, primarily for daycare & boarding. The place is clean, the staff are lovely, and the dogs seem happy. It is one of the worst managed businesses we've ever dealt with. This is one example from a few months back. My wife and I wanted to take a day trip upstate. I called DP and said we'd like to do one day of boarding (a 24hr service for $85) and one day of daycare (9am-6pm for $45). The plan was we'd drop our dog off Saturday afternoon (1pm) and pick her up Sunday evening (5pm). The employee I spoke to said that was great. Sunday afternoon I realize we're probably going to arrive closer to 6pm, so I call to let them know. A different employee says no problem. When we get there, we're charged $215. When I asked why I'm told there was an $85 late fee. Upon further examination I'm told (for the first time) that their computer doesn't actually know how to combine an overnight with a day of daycare, so when I failed to check her out (at 1pm on Sunday) it automatically charged me for another night of boarding. After talking with the owner she reluctantly gave us a credit for the $85 charge, but made it clear this was a one time exception. And here's the crux of the problem at Disco Paws. If they somehow managed to get a computer system that can't handle basic math - why weren't we told about that at the initial booking? Or when we called to say we'd be arriving closer to 6pm? How is it possible to talk to multiple employees and not receive the simplest information about their services? The answer: poor leadership. If this had only happened once, I doubt I would've taken the time to write this review. But this type of bizarre miscommunication and misinformation happened so many times over the course of our year there, I feel compelled to let people know. Great idea, great location, sweet staff. Shady business. I'd look somewhere else if I were you. read more

It's ridiculous that credits for training sessions expire within a shorter window than major gift card carriers. We bought a session pack and within a few months we lost half the value. Don't expect this business to give you any grace as their package deals are more about a cash grab. The owner herself doesn't understand good business practices that are customer friendly. Today i made an appointment to have my Siberian Forest cat and my Burmese cat groomed. The Siberian got a bath and lion cut, the Burmese a bath and nail trim package. I was overly pleased with the results. Everyone was so nice and professional. My cats were groomed by Natalia and she did an amazing A-1 job. I've been here a few times and it was just okay. They always have spots available last minute which has worked out for last minute emergencies. The manager and another front desk girl are kind and professional. It wasn't until I left my dog for a couple of night of boarding that I had a truly meaningful bad experience. I checked in on their doggy cam three times of the four days I left him there due to a family emergency out of state. In the few minutes I happened to check the cameras of the play area, the worker supervising the dog area was kneeing my pup away from him, as well as other dogs. He was intimating other harmless playful dogs doing absolutely nothing and picked up a small frenchie and threw him down and out into a corner aggressively for peeing (which is allowed and is their job to look after and wipe down). It was extremely obvious by his demeanor how miserable and disengaged he was. The following day I checked in and it was the same exact thing. When I went to pick him up, the same worker was in the doggy area. He was SCREAMING at the top of his lungs "f**ck!! Get the f**ck back!" And continued with that curse. You'd think he popped a vein. There's NO a reason to lose your cool with dogs consistently and continue to work with them. People are trusting that their dogs are in good hands and in the hands of dog lovers. I'll never leave my pup here again and hope they consider re staffing for the sake of the dogs. ALSO my dog came back with a huge bump on his head. I know dogs play and get hurt, same as kids do but I expected some kind of comment or something written down in the report. Again I think this boils down to the lack of care from the person supervising the dogs and What seems to me, always on his phone. Update: Instead of answering after email, reviews and voicemails, they've chosen to block me on platforms. This establishment is a bizarre joke! read more

So excited they opened this location! I was bringing my dog to Pamela on the ditmars location and was excited to see she was at the new one. It's easy to make an appointment, and they are always quick (but do a good job). You get texts when they check in and again when they're ready. Usually takes about an hour and a half for my poodle type dog. You always get photos of your pup on a report card too! I have tried a few groomers in the area but disco paws is definitely #1. The funny thing about this place is that our favorite groomer works here, so it was an added surprise when she came to the door. (We moved from the area some time ago.) Three strong points about this place: 1. It is pet-centric (i.e. not a kennel with a bunch of cages. Your little family members really get indulged!) 2. The grooming style is up to par to higher level grooming establishments (our dogs came over with us from Tokyo, so we were all a bit spoiled) and 3. The place is clean. For this reason, I can say the extra cost is worth it (actually, if you were to have added in the Uber we used to take, it turned out to be the same.) As serendipity had it, at first we weren't going to go to this place -- we had recommendations for two other places. One seemed to have some strange policies and the other were obnoxiously snooty over the phone. So -- we went to this one after it was recommended for boarding, and it turned out to be the lucky pick on all grounds. Customer service is also superior. Add location (relative to our home) and the place is a no brainer!!! read more

We boarded our dog for one night. When we got him back we noticed his eyes were blood red. We contacted discopaws and they said it was most likely due to rough play that can happen while boarding dogs. We understood at first but the vet said there was no way this was just "rough play" and how it wasn't noticed was beyond him. What shocked me was that disco paws didn't notice this on their own or let us know something was wrong. A few hundred dollars in vet visits later our dog ended up being fine after a week of treatment. I understand things happen and maybe my dog was playing rough (which should be moderated by the employees) but his eyes were blood red and very easy to notice if you're being paid to be caring for someones dog. After we reached out they acted offended and stubborn instead of apologetic and caring. We have boarded our dog else where and have not had a single issue. my wife and I are usually not people that complain at all. We really wanted to like disco paws because on the surface it seemed fun and great. We will never be going back. And In light of their recent issues we felt we needed to leave this review so people can understand our experience as well. read more
