this is the worst Petco I've ever gone to in my life, what kind of pet store does not have live feeder insects available multiple times throughout the week when they themselves have live reptiles that need to be fed, service takes forever when there's nothing going on in the store, and the location just generally does not have the supplies or resources it needs to be operating properly. The state in which the reptiles, birds and rodents are kept is abhorrent, don't give this wretched company any of your money or time. read more

I went to this Petco location in hopes of finding a dog tag to engrave for my dog who's tag needs replaced. The lady at the front counter checking people out, told me that I needed to have the tag container open when I inserted it into the machine. I did this, which ended up completely breaking the dog tag machine. Another woman approached (who seemed to be the manager) and she proceeded to scold the employee who told me the incorrect process thus resulting in the machine breaking. The whole situation was a little off-putting. However, the "manager" woman immediately got me a refund on my dog tag without making me wait any further, which was a nice gesture. UPDATE: I am all for not using a bag when I buy just a few items. When a customer spends $200 on pet toys (small items so clearly a lot of them) the bag should be part of the deal. That is not sustainability; it's passing your cost of doing business on to the consumer and is not good business. And only addressing part of a review says a lot for this business as well. Lucky for us fur baby loving parents, we have better options. Why should a customer have to pay for bags at a pet store? This is new for me and I've been to many other Petco stores in different locations of the state. I bought a bunch of small toys for 3 new puppies; of course I need a bag. It's not the cost of the bag that is the issue. It's the fact that I purchased $200 worth of puppy toys and had to pay for a bag when that should be part of the cost of doing business. And to top it off, while waiting in line, we watched the dog groomer texting on his phone while a dog stood on the table with the leash tight so he couldn't even lay down while this guy decided to conduct his personal business instead of taking care of the dog in his care. I like going to this Petco location because it's so close to my house, but I always seem to have a mediocre experience while in there. This location closes at 8:00pm, I showed up at 7:50pm and the doors were locked, even though there were still several customers inside (Fire Hazard?) Charlie saw me through the glass and ignored in hopes that I would walk away even though they were still open for another 10 minutes. I did not leave. I was there only to pick up dog food which my little girl desperately needed. Charlie after 20-30 seconds eventually came around and unlocked the front door. I said, I'm sorry I'm here quickly for dog food. Charlie said, "Yeah we're closing", hoping that I would not come in. I ran to the back, past several other customers, and grabbed the dog food bag and came to the front registers, beating Charlie to checkout. When I went to leave, the doors were of course locked again with me and several other customers inside and a reluctant Charlie had to come open the door for me. I try not to be the person who walks in with minutes to spare, but I also expect to feel welcome when I go to a store and spend $70. read more

After spending over $250 on pet food and supplies. I was asked to purchase a bag to carry my purchases in. Ok I get if they are trying to eliminate plastic but every single item I purchased has plastics in the packaging. The fish container the Beta was in has enough plastic to make a dozen bags the as well as the plastic wrap around the dog toys and the lust goes on. If you want to convert to all reusable containers and biodegradable packaging I can respect that but the look at me I've saved to world by stopping plastic bag use is just plain wrong. They don't donate or use the purchase of the bags for anything other than their profit margin. read more

I think the staff was nice and helpful. We needed a cat drinking fountain and we got assistance and recommendations which I appreciated. It is so expensive. A dollar per can of cat food. We spend a couple hundred dollars in there and get nothing for using our Petco rewards. We were told you get 5.00 back on $180.00 . Not much of a savings and nothing is on sale. You need to offer your customers some sort of incentive to shop with you. Might look into Chewy after this experience. read more

Pet con is just as bad as pet shart. They both have way overpriced items and when there is ever a bogo, they take the lowest prices. Always out of stock and beg you to donate... probably to them. I used to go to Petco grooming with my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Then several years ago they had a major turnover of groomers. One of them started her own mobile grooming business. I had used her for several years, but the quality and attitude of my dogs after the groom was concerning. Neighbors stated something similar. One hiding in the closest after his groom. So, I tried Denise at Petco for my one Cavy. She explained everything she recommended up-front. Discussed the extras; expected completion time. Delivered 100%. She even mentioned that Tippi (my 7-year-old) was sweet but nervous around shaving hair near her muzzle. She put Tippi on the ground on her lap and slowly scissored her muzzle. I have been taking Cali to a groomer at the petco located off of Daniels near bell tower, but since moving I decided to take her to be gulf coast location and I am very glad I did. Ralphie did Cali's grooming and I was pleasantly supplied. He was friendly and seemed to be enjoying spending time with the pups. He also brought to my attention an ear infection that had been continuing for a , while the other groomer never brought to my attention, but she is not a vet so I am not too upset. Overall, I like taking Cali to grooming at petco due to the convenience and the service. I feel like they have stricter standards unlike local breeders. They also don't let the dogs roam around, possibly catching fleas. read more

Here's a thought, if you decide to become a groomer you have to keep in mind that there are all kinds of dogs out there. Also, we are talking about a 1 year old shih tzu. I have been a customer of Petco's for over thirty-five years and today I had the worst experience shopping I have ever had at one of your stores. I stopped by the Petco (#2721) at Gulf Coast Town Center to pick up some cat food and litter. I have buying litter from Petco for over thirty years and always use the reusable tub (in the old days they were round) so I still have two. Today I filled an old round one and two newer square ones. I have never had problems before but, this time I got to the checker (named Adriana) and was greeted with, "What do you have?" I replied, " Some cat food and three refillables. One is down at the bottom." I put the cans on the checkout desk and she replied while pointing to the round container, "That is not one of ours." I turned it around and said, "Yes it is. It's very old. I've been using it for years." I turned it around and tried to show her but she refused to check it out. I also said, "I have had it longer than you have been alive," which she didn't find amusing. She just stood there. "Call your manager. Do you really think I would steal cat litter?" The manager eventually came and I explained the problem while Adriana stood there, saying nothing. The manager looked up the barcode and rang me up without saying a word. I left the store feeling like I was the "bad guy." I never got an apology or explanation from either employee. There wasn't a bit of friendliness during the entire transaction. Shame on them. I usually shop at another Petco in Fort Myers that is further away from my home and my gym and I think I will just keep shopping there where I am treated like a valued customer. Took my dog today to get a haircut that he desperately needed. Walked into a a guy at the desk that wasn't nice, friendly, considerate, mutual, or doing his job. I specifically told the groomer before I left to trim the dogs hair because it damages Pomeranian coats if you shave it. Groomer also told me that it would take at least 3 hours- I verified the time because I had to run errands, they said 3 hours for sure. They call me a hour and an a half in that the he is ready- then a second time because I was busy. Why did they tell me 3? I get there and my pom is completely shaven from head to toe. Whats the point in asking me how I want it if they don't follow it. They were clearly finished early because they were lazy about it and shaved it. The shave wasn't even symmetrical- his face was shaved more inwards on one side - looked ridiculously. Im not usually one to complain in person- so hopefully they get better. If you need a specific cut look elsewhere. Its hit or miss at every petco. I took him to this petco prior and said the nails were my number 1 priority- get there- pay- and they hand him to me- then didnt even cut them. Staff is very rude. looking to change groomers after moving about 15 miles from my previous home. I was talking to two friends in the store while watching the groomers through the huge picture window. Rudest woman ever came over and YELLED at me there was no dog training in the store (other than by them) All three of us told her we were NOT doing dog training but were there for a visit. The woman I was with had previously had her dogs trained there but wasn't familiar with their grooming services and had suggested I check it out. Having a dog as the of the same breed as me and being from a neighboring community she also was interested in a new groomer. I called because I had bought a bag of dog food that had maggots all over the exterior. They said to bring it in for a refund and I explained that while I would definitely do that later, I wanted to let them know so that they could check the other bags on the shelf. I came in five hours later and tried to exchange my item but the bags on the shelf (that I asked them to check earlier) had maggots also... I was left buying a larger bag which they did give me a discount on. I told the cashier again (who I watched tell a supervisor) about the bags still on the shelf with maggots. They didn't seem concerned. I returned later and was shocked to see the EXACT BAG I RETURNED BACK ON THE SHELF with maggots on it. I am beyond disgusted with this store. read more
