This is our go-to Petco location. We tend to stop by here mainly for their vaccination clinics for our three dogs. With their app, they make it super easy to schedule and stop by. They'll get your dog in, vaccinated, and out in a blink. And, then conveniently, all their vaccination records are quickly emailed over to you. We do also stop by on occasion for this or that for one of our three dogs or two cats and the store itself is generally neat and the service is generally friendly. We also sometimes pick up a fish or two here for our aquariums and they also have a decent selection. I've mostly got female bettas for my tank and they're always lovely. Beyond that they do usually have a cat or two up for adoption in their small adoption area. This is our favorite Petco location in the metro and while we don't get the majority of our pet food and supplies here, glad to have them when we need them! Get to it! read more

Unacceptable Service, Rude Staff, and a $65 Half-Hearted Bath ​Location: Petco Grooming (Milwaukee, WI 53220) ​I have been a loyal customer at this Petco location for some time, which makes this recent experience even more disappointing and frankly, infuriating. I brought my dog in for a full grooming appointment and was immediately met with cold and rude staff. ​The initial drop-off was challenging. I was blatantly ignored by multiple employees, and when I finally got attention, one staff member told me I "needed to be more mindful." This level of disrespect before the service even began was shocking. They finally took my dog, but the day only went downhill from there. ​Later, I received a call informing me that I needed to come pick up my dog because she had become aggressive when they tried to get her out of the kennel. I immediately apologized and told them I was on my way. ​When I arrived, the lack of professionalism was obvious. There were two cashiers unable to process payments because one employee was openly doing personal work business, catching up on her notes. She refused to let a male employee use the register, stating, "No. I'm catching up on my notes." ​They brought my dog out, and I was appalled by her appearance. Her hair was crispy, and her eyes had not been cleaned. It was clear that very little, if any, service had been performed. Thinking they hadn't been able to complete the work due to the mid-service issue, I simply grabbed my pup and started to leave. ​I was then chased down by employees who demanded payment. I explained that I didn't believe they had done anything based on my dog's condition. Their response? They had "bathed her. That's it." They proceeded to charge me $65 for a bath that resulted in crispy hair and dirty eyes. ​For $65, they failed to perform the scheduled services, including: ​Brushing her hair ​Cutting her toenails ​Trimming her hair ​This was a $65, half-assed bath delivered by rude, unmindful, and unprofessional employees. Given the disrespectful customer service and the extremely poor quality of the single service they performed, I will absolutely not be returning to this Petco location for grooming or otherwise. This Petco is a joke. First, one lady couldn't even find my dog's appointment. Then another swooped in, acting like a boss and being rude and nasty in front of my two little kids-- all over a nail trim. It's the second time I've dealt with this same woman. She very unprofessional and on a complete power trip. That woman has no business working with customers and should be fired immediately. Petco seriously needs to clean house and get better staff. They have lost so much business over something so trivial. --------- This isn't the first time I've been treated this way--it's a pattern. Based on the generic response you post to all your reviews, I highly doubt anyone will be held accountable or that anything will change. I gave this store THREE Saturdays in a row to try to have someone help me in the fish area. Apparently no one wants to be back there and the very few employees just hang out in the front of the store. Impossible to get help from the very limited staff. Date of visit: April 8, 2023 We stopped here as we had to exchange a number of outfits that did not fit our dachshund/chihuahua/poodle mix. His combination of chestiness and length make finding clothes difficult and his aunt went a bit crazy with outfits but we didn't have much success in terms of these things actually fitting. We did find some other options for him, but the dog clothes were a bit of a hot mess. Not everything had a price tag and the items were more disorganized than the clearance racks at Kohl's! Sadly one of the replacement items is also not going to fit and so I will have to go back and try an exchange one more time. My dog was groomed yesterday. She is a shih Soi and yorkie mix 17lbs. I asked for a trim told what I wanted. I didn't have a chance to look at her till I got home First I don't think she had a bath no nice smell.I am a senior and I saw the the sign about what costs no explaining. I ask to have her anal squeezed and the girls had mo idea what that was. My dog has no hair on top of her nose Hair sticking out all over. Her vhest is a mess and mark where the razor too close. Her ears are so short. I don't think the staff no how to trim a Shih Shu.very disappointed Won't be back. read more

Well here's how this works. It's a Monday and you have a sick dog. You call all over town and NOBODY, including vets that you have a relationship with, can get you in. So as a last resort, you call these people and sure enough, they will see you. So off you go, almost a half hour one way. You get out of the car, put your dog down on the ground and walk to the store. You walk in the door and the first thing my puppy does is pee. We're thinking he has a uti. They examined him and came back and said they wanted to take an x-ray which is customary because of possible crystals. About a 100 dollars. They come back and say they think they see something and want to take another x-ray to make sure. We agreed. Another 100 dollars. Nothing was found. Then they wanted a urine sample which of course we couldn't provide and they declined to remove urine. We had a coupon for a free exam which saved us 84.00, I think but we still spent almost 300.00 leaving with no answer. We collected a urine sample that night and Tuesday morning off I go again only to find out they don't work there on Tuesdays, so back home I go. They said nothing about being closed on Tuesday while we were there on Monday. On Wednesday morning we go there again and give them the urine same and another 90.00, I think to get it tested. We found out quickly, that they don't have a lab, they send everything out and we could wait up to 72 hours to get the results. We only had to wait until Thursday morning to confirm what we were thinking. He had a uti. They prescribed Baytril and we got that filled. This is a common drug prescribed for this condition. The pharmacist told us this might irritate his stomach. Thursday night he vomited. Friday night the same and we discontinued giving him any more of this drug. I'm writing this on Sunday, Mothers Day. Yesterday we called petco to see if perhaps the veterinarian was on call to give us a different medication. Of course. Not on call, no way to get ahold of them. Now he hasn't eaten since Friday, and I'm afraid he's going to die. I hope this helps someone else, when they're confronted with this kind of decision. When you can't wait a week, a different choice is warranted! read more

I stopped here to grab a gift card for my friend because she really impressed me with what she did earlier this week. She recently adopted a puppy which was very cool but as she left work a tiny kitted crawled up her and she took it home for the night to bring it to the shelter the next day. To my amazement the kitten and puppy instantly took to each other and were besties so the dog woman decided to keep the kitten which really impressed me because she is not a cat person. I'm so happy that this puppy and kitten have a home and that they get along so well so I told her that I would get her a $100 gift card to start the kitten off with a litter box, toys, food etc etc to show my appreciation for giving the kitten a home. This is so the initial financial would not be a burden to her because she was not looking for another mouth to feed. read more

Petco is a chain but the individual stores actually vary a little. This one is tighter than others which isn't that big a deal. I didn't like that the employees weren't properly masked up (wearing them on chins, touching faces) and though COVID19 will pass, I think the way stores are handling this pandemic says a lot about how they think of cleanliness in general. My impression is that preventing the spread of disease just isn't a high priority here, though they do have a nice selection of canned cat food. read more

Rebecca in grooming was very unprofessional and just rude. I called 1/15 to schedule an appointment on 1/16 for a nail trim and to shave the hair around his paw pads. (was done greatly) checking in rebecca rolled her eyes at my rabies vaccine info was in my email. I was told that was totally fine when I called to make the appointment. then as she was taking him back handing him off he was very excited and jumped up. she gave me nastiest face I've ever seen. I asked how long the appointment would be she replied with "5 minutes" I did my shopping that took well over 5 minutes checked out with Josh and sat in my car in the parking lot. she called 20 minutes later. when i picked up the phone she asked me where I was and why i was not in the building. she never told me that I could not leave the building ( but i was just in my car, answered the phone on the first ring and came in right away) I was greeted with attitude. the appointment took longer then told. i understand a excited puppy who has never been to pet co can be overwhelming. but i checked out again with Josh he was very personable and excited to meet and give my puppy a treat. read more

The staff was incredibly condescending and rude in how they interacted with her- mind you, she's a new dog owner and was trying to ask questions. Petco is probably my least favorite pet store because of the prices. I can find the same items elsewhere for lot less. But, they do have Star Wars toys, so that's a plus. As far as big box goes, they have a huge aquatics department and a large variety of live pets to choose from. I generally visit to look for rabbit toys in their bird department. They have a large selection of bird toys! Toys for everything really, except perhaps rabbits and ferrets. Those selections could be larger. Food and treats galore. For every pet! I also love the large selection of dog toys for all chew levels. But as I mentioned, it's expensive. This location has a grooming salon which did a great job when I used them last year. My only problem is that it can take up to 4 hours to get your dog back. I'm not a fan of ditching him with strangers for that long. He looked and smelled great though. read more

I've gotten to know the grooming team over the past couple of years. They all are some of the most caring and genuine dog groomers I've ever known. They've taught me so much on how to properly care for my dogs and helped me choose the right products. Dog grooming is hard work. Wish it could be lower. I received a gift for pet training for 2 six week sessions for Christmas. The arrangement (his) was for Monday from 4-5 pm.My dog is appr 20 pounds and 1 1/2 years old. The first session was a no show trainer was sick no call. Second session he was late and ended before 5. third session he was late and after 5 minutes told me my dog didn't focus and felt this wouldn't work. He knows the basics and just want to expand on that. He had a list for referrals to private trainers. The area used for training is less than 10 ft from cashier with people and dogs. How can you expect a friendly dog to focus right away. Because my grandson used his card and lives in Chicago he couldn't refund without card and gave me a store credit. It was obvious from the start that he just didn't want to do it. Now I have a credit for $220. and not sure how I can use it by just ordering dog food read more

I made a grooming appointment for my dog. The earliest was one month out. The morning of the appointment, it got cancelled. I called to reschedule and there was no answer. I called back later and the earliest Saturday appointment was two weeks out. For me, PetCo's kind of "meh". We almost never shop at big box pet places because our needs are covered by the shop at doggie daycare and Wisconsin Garden + Pet. Today, we stopped only because we were next door at Office Depot. One thing I can't complain about is the selection - wow, they have a lot of stuff!! Our puppy got spoiled with a new toy, some treats and her favorite "special occasion" wet food. Tons to choose from. I will complain that their house brand of rawhide is misleading - they slap "American" and "USA" all over the package but.....the small print says its processed in Mexico with US hides. No thanks - I'm paranoid like that. Adding the third star because they regularly host + promote adoption events, and actively encourage their shoppers to support these causes. Today, they had some kittens for adoption - adorable and hard to resist even though I'm not a cat person. And, you're most welcome to bring your dogs inside so we got to meet several wiggly, cute puppies. read more

Groomers don't want to work. First trip -- said my bulldog/pitt mix who has special needs was hyperventalating when that's just how he breathes. Didn't call or ask -- just didn't do the job. My other dog has anxiety and they recommended as we left to use the melatonin chews they sell to call her down next time. Took that advice, purchased the $40 chews, for the 2nd visit -- only my anxious dog -- and was told they couldn't service her because it's store policy that dogs can't have anything in their system. No sorry. No attempt to reschedule. Just -- oh well. And I swear they left a dog unattended tied up and choking while they provided me the worst customer service. I wouldn't shop there for anything now. Terrible service. Unprofessional and miserable energy. You're better off avoiding this spot altogether. read more

Terrible experience. I informed them that my dog was matted weeks prior to the appointment because it's been so hard to find a groomer. when I finally went in, two different girls said that although he was matted, they would be able to just shave him down. Then they bring out the third girl which was some white girl in her late 20s on the heavier side and she starts whispering to the others that he's way too matted and says "I wouldn't...I wouldn't take him" amongst other things while making a disgusted face, as if i'm not standing right in front of her hearing everything. And then the original groomer that my dog was booked with tells me that because he's matted they're not going to be able to take him. I asked them "so you're not gonna even try?" And although she seemed like she wanted to take him and probably would've if it wasn't for the third girl she responded " i'm sorry but she has 11 years of experience and she doesn't recommend it..." I then went to Petsmart, which was down the road and they told me that they would have no problem taking him after assessing his coat, and that the lady at PETCO had no reason to deny me. My dog is so happy when she goes to the groomer, she starts getting excited in the car a block away from the store. She loves her groomer. She always smells good. And most of all she is always beautiful. They never hurt or scare her. I had a groomer that burned my dog with the clippers once. I had a hard time getting him to go back. NEVER here! My poor baby was extremely dirty, she needed lots of washing. This is not an easy task for a Sheltie. She is a senior dog and needs plenty of gentle care due to arthritis. I called and to my surprise, Elaine was able to arrange for her to have a bath. Not enough time for full grooming but she did get her much needed bath. We used to prefer going to PetSmart for cat supplies, but they stopped carrying the bulk size of the cat food we use. Rather than spending more money and making more trips, we switched stores. Went in to buy a $20 turtle that was 25% off. My son was going to put it in the pond he build next to the house as his school project (since he can't be in school). They refused to sell us the turtle as they indicated that a captive turtle cannot survive in the "wild". Purchased a turtle from another pet store. This turtle is living the dream and surviving perfectly. Beautiful small pond, plenty of food and sunshine and we will be bringing him indoors in the fall. Thanks for breaking a kid's heart by refusing to sell him a turtle because you indicated we were going to mis-treat it. Thank goodness we were able to find another. I have been taking my dog to Petco in Greenfield, WI for several years and have nothing but great things to say about his groomer, Becca, and the entire grooming staff! However, I can only rate this visit as a 3 because of the manager. Our appointment was a 8 am on 2/25/18 and we arrived at 7:55 am. I was surprised to see the staff outside; they were waiting for the manager to arrive and open the store. The manager arrived at 8:22 am; totally unacceptable for a leader in a customer service position! His tardiness not only created significant dissatisfaction for the customers but it put his entire staff behind schedule for the rest of the day. I have experienced this issue before but this was the WORST and was fully avoidable. Your staff and your customers deserve better.. read more

I have my dog groomed approximately every 6 weeks. I usually go to a place that's 30-40 minutes away. I didn't have time to drive there so I thought I would just run him to Petco. That was the BIGGEST mistake I have ever done. They claimed my dog was too aggressive and they wouldn't groom him. I went to pick him up and they charged me $70 for them doing nothing. They wouldn't give me my dog till I paid it. The groomer claimed I had to pay because he attempted to work with him. Funny thing is I took him to a "REAL" groomer the next day and they had no problem with him. Petco is the worst and I will never go there again.
