Shutter this business with verbally and physically abusive owner. We had a grooming appt on March 1, 2025. Dropped dog off in early afternoon. Groomers explained that while the store closed at 5 that they would be running past 5 for our dog. The groomer called at 5:09 pm (time stamp of call attached). I immediately headed over to pick up our dog. I entered the store and walked to the grooming area and asked how it went and was told my dog was great as usual. Upon beginning to walk out of the grooming area one of the groomers remarked that I will be charged a dollar for every minute after 5 pm. I turned around and calmly indicated this was unacceptable. I believe a consumer has every right to dispute something that is patently wrong. I explained the chronology thinking that these groomers may not have been privy to the earlier conversation.They were adamant that this was my fault even with the explained background. They said late charges would be waived but if it happened again this would be strictly enforced. We prefer to support local businesses as often as we can. I thanked them for the consideration and tried to pay. Without any provocation or effort to understand the interaction, the owner of the store aggressively approached me. In a loud voice attempted to dress me down for being rude to his groomers. Without taking his bait, I calmly indicated that he misunderstood the situation. He began screaming at me in a profanity laced tirade while repeatedly pointing his finger in my face within a foot of me, while repeatedly calling me an asshole. I respectfully requested that he stop verbally assaulting me and not point his finger in my face. Not once was my tone above conversational, even mentioning that he was the only one yelling and being disrespectful. He continued his profanity laced tirade and finger pointing for at least 7 minutes. I continued to try to reason with him to no avail. After the tirade wound down he walked over to the grooming area and advised that all my dog's future grooming appts were to be canceled. Overhearing this, as he walked back to the cash wrap, I asked if he had just canceled all future grooming appts for my dog. He screamed yes and continued to tell me off some more. I calmly asked this owner if it might be better to step back and interview all groomers that day to truly understand the situation. For a moment it seemed cooler heads prevailed and he said we can keep our next appointment, but that my daughter was not allowed to drop off or pick up, and that I had to and if the lateness occurred again we would not be allowed back. Again, although his behavior was reprehensible and unprofessional, I did not take the bait and simply replied asking if we were able to keep our remaining appts on the grooming schedule or just the next one? Seemed reasonable given what had transpired. At this, the owner restarted his profanity laced tantrum and inappropriate finger pointing, adding that he wanted me to get out of his store. He aggressively walked over to the door where my dog was standing and seriously approached my dog in a threatening manner. While keeping my dog in view so as not to have any animal abuse occur, I looked at the owner and, again calmly asked if he prefer I leave immediately or after I pay. He didn't even respond, so I proceeded to pay for the grooming ridiculously even adding a tip even after all that had happened. After getting my receipt I tried to leave, and instead of leaving well enough alone this owner continued his childish tantrum also yelling that I should never come back. I responded that this would not be a problem and that it was so unfortunate that he injected himself into the situation without doing any due diligence to understand what had occurred. I went above and beyond to remain calm making every attempt to diffuse his ridiculous behavior. He should not be in customer service. He should not be allowed anywhere near families most precious members. He is unhinged and his behavior is dangerous if not illegal. read more

They have a great food selection for cats, dogs, and fish. The employees are clearly animal lovers. I used to have a salt water fish tank and if I ever decide to pick up the hobby again I will go to FBPS for my fish and coral. I don't have water dogs but there is a pool that is very popular for water dogs and dogs undergoing physical therapy. This seems fairly uncommon for pet stores. Feed Bag is known as one of the best options in the Milwaukee area. They have a great selection of hard and soft coral. They have lots of different fish, and seem to have a stable system. The equipment selection is strong as well. I've come here for test sets, livestock, equipment, and general help. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. Any of them will drop what they are doing and help you with any questions or tank issues. They sell RO water if you need it. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! After a thorough dressing down in mid store by Rachel -a dog groomer -because my dog had some matting, I came back to pick him up and explained to her that I had been very sick. And life in your late sixties isn't like her life at twenty something. Her staff jumped in to further berate me, defending the health of my dog rather than show an ounce of empathy. As I sat waiting for her to finish, (a hint, hint : when someone has to ask for a chair, there might be a health issue) I saw the store manager and related my experience and had another lengthy conversation. After expressing how deep my love was for this little white creature, I admitted that on some days, my choice must be to put my own health first. The store manager disagreed stating unequivocally , "Humans should never come before animals." I looked at him and responded "Really? I will always choose myself over an animal. I love my dog like nothing else but some days I have to choose me over him. " Then as we turned around another dog approached and barked at us. TJ remained mellow as always and the manager further explained how I was to pull him out of the other dog's face. This staff's entitlement to teach life lessons was astounding. I have been going to big box stores, but after finding their supplies and knowledge lacking, I decided to stop by after work one day. I'm really glad I did, the young woman who assisted me (sorry I never got your name!) was so helpful and dropped what she was doing to help me find some plants and driftwood for my new betta tank. She even showed me a rare betta that they have who was gorgeous by the way, I didn't even know that kind existed! Overall I'm really happy with my experience at the Mequon location, and I'll be going there in future months to get supplies and hopefully once my tank is cycled, a new betta! If I could give zero stars I would. I made an appointment for my dog to be bathed Wednesday February 27. I made it clear on the phone that I only wanted my dog to be bathed. He is old n it's too cold for a haircut this time of year. When I dropped off my golden retriever I asked the woman in the grooming department if getting his nails trimmed was included with the bath as he needed his nails done. I was told yes. I also told the woman that my dog has a little arthritis in his back end and would need to take breaks from standing while being dried. She agreed. I came back several hours later to discover that this woman had chosen to give my dog a haircut. I have a gorgeous purebred golden retriever , which is not some exotic breed, yet she cut off his entire skirt and fluffy hair behind his legs. I was very upset and asked cashier if I could speak to the manager. The manager of grooming came out and was utterly useless. No apology or explanation. She then asked about my dog having seizures, my dog has never had a seizure. I think they added someone else's info to my account. She just kept going on n on about putting notes in the computer for next time. I told her there would be no next time and she walked away. I then asked to speak to store manager. Just as useless. She said there was nothing that she could do and stood there. I was charged $50, which I wanted split between 2 debit cards as the dog belongs to both my sister and myself. Upon returning home, still completely dissatisfied, I called the store and asked when the owner would be in. The girl on phone said sometimes he comes in Thursday but other times he takes the day off. Very helpful...not. I had to work so my sister called the owner Mark the next morning and he was rude. He first tried to tell her that when I dropped off dog I told groomer how I wanted him cut- never happened, then he said the husband was supposed to pick up dog- there is no husband, he ended this horrible experience by trying to tell my sister that my credit card was declined and I didn't have enough money to pay for bath- absolutely false. I understand wanting to stick up for your employees, but not when they were in the wrong. They screwed up and all I wanted was an apology and someone to take responsibility for their mistake. We have been shopping at this store since it opened, but never again . Worst attempt at customer service ever!!!! I made an appointment for my dog to get a bath. I reiterated that to the groomer and asked if nail trim was included in bath. How can there possibly be 'two sides of the story?' Your employees made a mistake and all you have done is try to blame me the customer. You said in response to my sister about a third party relaying information. That's not true. As my sister already told you that the dog belongs to both of us. There is no third party, only two people who own a dog. read more

My sister just moved to Cedarburg and turned me onto The Feed Bag. I have had my Pitbull for almost a year. When I got her, she was extremely malnurished. Her hair was falling outans her skin was in terrible shape. Her nails would routinely crack or break and bleed, and she was 20lb under weight. It has been a hard year trying to get her healthy. Our main problem has been gut health. I have gone back to the Feed Bag over and over again. I got to much help, but again and again her body would reject the food. I turned to making homemade food, but I don't even cook for myself that much, let alone the dog, so it has been frustrating. I made the 45 minute drive back to the Feed Bag today and begged for help, as I am at the end of my rope. All the internet research and talking to the vet I have done, it still feels like I have not gotten very far. Her skin, nails, and weight are better, but I haven't been able to fix her gut. I asked a girl who happened to be new. She told me she did not know how help me, but would get someone. That person said the problem needed someone who knew more about food (even though the girl was obviously knowledgeable), so she got a manager. I was incredibly impressed that they both were willing to ask for help, instead of just blowing me off or giving me the most expensive thing they could find. I talked to the manager for a good 20 min. We talked about a lot of options and what could be causing the issues. I went through the whole list of very expensive dog foods I had tried and he listened. Yes, you heard me. He listened. We made a plan to help rebuild her gut bacteria with probiotics and a very neutral dog food that was chalk full of vitamins. It wasn't cheap, but he told me to bring anything back that made her sick and they would exchange it. I feel like I finally have a plan and may have a handle on this situation. I am so grateful to the people at Feed Bag who have put so much effort into trying to help me make my dog healthy. I cannot recommend them enough. Their selection is huge and their prices are a little cheaper to on par with most places. But, I have never seen the know or the care they put into their jobs anywhere else. I was just at The Feedbag Bag Pet Store. There are employees there not wearing mask working the front counter not wearing a mask. The owner said the employee has a medical excuse to not wear a mask. This is unacceptable. This is exactly how the virus is spreading. Even though the owner stated they are checked for symptoms every day this is wrong. We moved to cedarburg a little over 3 years ago, with our plethora of animals (really only 2 dogs and 2 cats, though one of our dogs is 200 lbs so we go through a bit of food) that we share our life with. As we have/had them all on natural, pretty special diets, it was important that we find a pet supply store that could help us continue to feed what we had our critters on that was close by. At first we couldn't find one, and continued to shop at our Milwaukee store that we knew had all supplies on hand, but that drive became tiring every weekend, as did fighting rush hour traffic in milw after work to get there. We finally found a place really close to our house that had, or would order for us, everything we needed, then they closed. :( Found another place in the burg that said they would order for us, but those orders came in quite inconsistently, and customer service really lacked and they didn't seem to care about back-logged orders. At that time, we started venturing to the Feed Bag more than "every now and then" to pick up what the other store didn't have. And now...Feed Bag is now our mainstay shop! They carry everything we need, are more than willing to special order for us, and the customer service is OVER THE TOP fantastic! I've never walked in there ONCE without being greeted, get checked on several times to make sure I'm finding things okay, and everyone's always smiling. Makes it obvious mgmt is doing something very right, as customer service is so paramount and staff seem genuinely happy! Feed bag is completely worth the 15 minute jaunt it takes us to get there. The Feedbag sold us diseased goldfish for the new tank we were setting up for our toddler. When we tried to return the fish, not only did they refuse to take their diseased fish back, but did not offer any help or assistance with the problem in our new fish tank. It will be very lucky if the rest of the fish they sold us live. My son needed to replace a marine fish that had died after 10 years. I found their employee Nicole to be extremely knowledgeable. She spent a lot of time with us discussing the pro's and con's of different species and how they might work with our current setup. Her focus was not just to sell us a fish. It was to help us make the right decision. After the sale, she gave us some medicated fish food and seaweed pellets to see us through those first critical days. That's unusual for a retailer. Their loss of a dollar's worth of fish food has gained them an appreciative customer who will definitely be back. We have purchased fish and other supplies before at the store and have always found their employees to be friendly and helpful. Another employee, Tom, has also gone out of his way to help us with our questions about fish and supplies. In an era of "if you don't take care of the customer, someone else will" these guys have obviously hired employees who understand what that means. read more

I have been going to The Feed Bag for the past 3.5 years. People are always friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. I gave them only 4 out of 5 stars because I feel that the prices are a bit inflated. I used to get my dog's food and treats here, but have found that another store carries the same brand, Stella and Chewy's, for 3-5 bucks cheaper. Also, they used to carry a certain bully stick that my dog ADORED but do not carry it anymore. I have used their swimming pool as water therapy post a knee surgery and it was worth the money. I have a very small dog and they were able to schedule 15 min sessions rather than the 30 min sessions for his rehab. My dog hated swimming but it really helped in his recovery. I also use their grooming department. I have tried other groomers in the area but have never had the same amazing experience time and time again as I do with Mary. If any issues come up they tell you right away, unlike other places where you need to ask and sometimes they try to hide it. Overall I would recommend The Feed Bag for the grooming department and their swimming pool. Their prices seem a little high for food, treats, and toys, but about average for clothes. read more

We've bought hundreds of dollars in pet supplies (bedding, supplements, scoopers, food, etc.) at The Feed Bag since they opened in Mequon, and my wife has a frequent shopper account there. We appreciated an alternative to a "big box" chain in our neighborhood, but we're done as of today after some shabby treatment by the owner. My wife returned a dog harness (used for walks and car rides) because it's the second in a row by this manufacturer to fall apart and need replacing. The owner refused to credit the return toward a replacement, and instead blamed my wife (and the dog) for several things that didn't happen, including the dog chewing up the harness (she didn't) or the wear and tear happening on our deck. (We don't have a deck.) The harness has been lightly used for walks during the winter, and we haven't owned it for a long time, so it's just possible that a manufacturing defect is at fault! But the owner blamed my wife (to the chagrin of the sales associate) instead of doing the exchange -- no questions asked --and following up with the supplier. As somebody with a lifelong career in retail, I can tell you that this "customer service" should never happen and will cost the Feed Bag any of our future business. read more

It was my first time at the Feed Bag and the people working were a little rude. I went there looking for IAMs cat food. One of the employees asked me if I needed help finding anything, and I replied that I was looking for IAMs food. She then started explaining to me how BAD IAMs food is for my pet. I honestly felt offended because that is all I buy for my pet and I didn't want to start paying an extra $10 on natural food for my cat. Although, I did end up purchasing some cat toys. When I checked out the woman at the registers asked me if I was part of the rewards system. I answered No, and that is as far as that conversation went. She did not offer to add me. For the past year I have gone to The Feed Bag and bought hundreds of dollars in pet supplies for my year old golden. At 6 months old he needed double elbow surgery and I was grateful for the Feed Bag's pool to help with his rehab. Unfortunately after a horrible experience with the owner (Mark) in the pool area yesterday I will never use their facilities or buy from them again. My golden has always been very timid getting into the water. Per usual this happened again yesterday and while the swimmer and I were gently trying to help him in, Mark walks in. Of the 12+ times I've taken my dog there to swim Mark has never been in the pool area with us. He proceeded to yank my dog to the corner of the pool. When he flopped onto his back Mark then squeezed him on either side so hard to the point he was baring his teeth. I asked him to stop and explained that he was scared and he had to use a gentler approach. Mark waved me off and said "No this breed should have no issue getting into the water". Given that he's a self-proclaimed "dog trainer" I was hoping once his aggression tactic didn't work he would try something else, unfortunately that didn't happen. He continued to squeeze him until my dog yelped and then Mark demanded, "He's out! I'm not putting up with this." He then lifted my dog off the ground by the neck and dragged him to the door. Every employee at this business would vouch for my dog's demeanor. He sits at their feet and gives them his paw and is overall very loving and friendly. Ultimately it was clear Mark had had a bad day and needed to take it out on someone. As the owner of a business his behavior was disgustingly unprofessional and I hope anyone thinking of using this facility thinks twice. read more

:) I dont understand how this place doesn't score a consist 5 stars. Everytime I go in the employee's go above and beyond on answering all my questions making suggestions and throwing out important information that I may not have known about. I got my Frankie fish here 6 months ago. I visited numerous pet stores looking for the best and healthiest Betta fish. This place at least keeps there betta's in a tank most of the time instead of those small cups which is so unfair and kills pet store fish. The fish have the brightest colors and they where super active unlike most of the unhappy fish i saw at other places. Also, this place live plant selection has been the best and also the best prices I have noticed. They do not have the biggest fish tank decor section but the best live plant selection by a mile. Also, fish tank gravel is cheaper here than elsewhere 5.50 for a 5 lb bag good deal! As for other sections of the store I cant say but this is the only place i prefer to go for my Fish supplies. Oh yeah for all you dog and cat owners out there this place is pet friendly feel free to bring your best friend in anytime. They will score a free treat upon check out!!! My dog, BB, had her first swimming experience this morning at the Feed Bag and I couldn't be happier! The handler, Julie, was super friendly and great with BB. My dog wasn't sure about swimming at first and Julie lovingly coaxed her into the water several times. Julie was also reassuring to me about how my dog was doing. Let me start by saying I have never negatively reviewed a business because to me yelp is more so about praising and the complaints should be delivered directly to the source. This, however, needs to be shared. It was scary. The selection at this store is fantastic! The customer service up until today was perfect. Very knowledgeable and friendly. It was extremely unfortunate when today my husband and I, my pregnant sister and her husband, and my mother went in to get our Fromm dog food. When simply inquiring about their brand consistent "rewards" program a grumpy man moved the sales associate aside and said "I'll handle this!" In a less than respectable tone. He proceeded to use a loud tone and accused my 64 year old mother of "making up fake names to get free dog food." This all got a tad ridiculous and I kindly told him he didn't need to be disrespectful and he could keep his $135 of dog food and I would shop somewhere else. As we were all leaving he continued to rant and rave about us. I asked his name and he said Mark, I thanked him and left. Next thing you know Mark is barreling out the front door yelling at my mother. It was hands down the most odd situation we have all ever been in. After telling him I was going to let the better business bureau know about his aggressive actions, Mark said "hide behind the internet like everybody else." The problem is. I'm not hiding. I told him directly to his face what was wrong. As an adult. Apparently Mark, whom turns out to be the owner, would rather lose 5 peoples' business rather than properly execute text book customer service. The final farewell comment takes the cake. The loudly yelled "stay in Chicago!" really exemplifies a great owner and role model to the young people that work there. Way to go Mark. Winning. read more

I frequent FBPS on a regular basis and must say it is always a pleasant experience! I primarily go to purchase saltwater reef supplies and livestock of which I am always pleased with the service, variety, cleanliness of the store and friendliness. I have been in the Reefing scene for over 2 decades and few stores match up. Even if go to look at the newest livestock without purchasing something, they always make me feel welcome! They have a huge variety of dog food brands and toys/treats all in a very clean store with knowledgeable staff ...a combination that is tough to beat in today's market! I have been coming here for a while to get my dog bathed and buy dog food. We just had an incident with our dog that has made me very upset and realized they completely lack customer service skills. We brought our dog in for a bath and instead they butchered him. When we called we just asked for a bath, when my sister dropped him off she asked if the nails were included in the bath. Never once did we ask for a haircut. When she picked him up she was upset and neither manager apologized and said they would take off the cut. She asked about his seizures, but our dog has never had seizures. Someone had written the wrong thing in the notes. Not only did they give him a haircut but they butchered him. His is a golden retriever and they cut off all his skirt and made him look like a lab. When I called the next day to talk to the owner about the situation he accused us the customer of asking for a hair cut when we dropped him off. He was unapologetic and even when the notes they had in the computer were all wrong he backed his staff instead of the customer. I have been in the customer service field for many years and no matter what the customer is always right. All he needed to do was say I'm so sorry this happened, we want to make things right and give you a refund. Because they should want to keep all their customers. Instead he was rude on the phone and made it out to be our fault and was rude when I went in to get the refund. Actually made a comment about how she didn't have enough money to pay for it and I said no she put it on 2 cards because we split the cost. What kind of business owner doesn't apologize and try to make things right and have the customer leave happy. Well I am done going there and will tell everyone I know in Mequon not to go there. Such a shame!!! He did not try to rectify the situation and by taking off the cost of the haircut wasn't enough when we never asked for a haircut. Our dog was not matted because we brush him all the time, so another lie. Finally gave me a refund because I demanded it because that is the right thing to do for a customer. Never should a business owner accuse the customer of lying when his staff can't even write notes correctly. So yes, please take some notes on how to treat a customer. All he had to do was say "I'm so sorry this happened to your pet, how can I rectify the situation." That is it. This was very disappointing. read more

Have been taking my dog there for over 2 years for swimming therapy. The employees that take your dog in the pool are hit or miss. Some good... some awful! My dog was afraid of the people he has working with the dogs. I asked to reschedule with a swimming person who was more friendly to animals. The owner was nasty and rude. He refused to reschedule and charged me for the session that we did not use! All the employees complain about how awful the owner is. It's a revolving door with employees because the owner is so mean and nasty to them. I will not go back and I hope who ever reads this won't either. Their staff is very unprofessional, a few gals to be more specific. The manager of the establishment is also very rude to their employees, I've witnessed first hand. Calling their work 'half-assed' right in front of me and the employee, very unprofessional. read more

I really like this store. Everyone there is very helpful and when I had questions about whether my picky picky dog would like a particular treat, the salesperson just opened the box for him to test them out. It was so nice of her and really helpful! They also have a great selection of toys and things with which to spoil my dog. That makes him happy. read more

The Feed Bag is an excellent place for pet needs. Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. The staff goes that extra mile to help you find exactly what you need. I had a problem once with customer service ( carrying heavy bags to my car) I sent them a message on their web site and NEVER had that problem again. This is an independent small business and they work hard to get and keep customers. They carry all American products, which in chewies for dogs is hard to find. They are a little more expensive on some things but they stand behind what they sell. The owner knows customer service. He has obviously trained his staff in this art. The fish department is amazing. This store is clean, well organized and carries unique items that would normally need to be ordered on line. I have had nothing but great experiences at this store. Customer service is over the top great and I can't imagine how anyone could have a bad experience here. When we needed to change our cat's food, they gave us many samples to help us with our picky eater. I can't tell you how many times my lunch break got stretched a little longer than it should because I got into a conversation with one of the employees about one of my pets and asking advice. If they do not have a product, just ask them if they can special order it. Yes, the prices on some of the products are a touch higher than other stores, but that is because it is a small, local business. You cannot expect walmart or amazon prices at a small local store. I am willing to pay the small markup in order to keep good businesses like this in town. I get all of my crickets here, my cat's fromm food, and all of my betta fish tank supplies. Also, you can find some rarer aquatics there, both in plants and animals. I purchased a rabbit snail there once to find out it was a chocolate rabbit snail and harder to come by! read more
